This private tour leaves the city via St Kilda Road, Melbourne’s most famous boulevard. We travel through some of the cities most established suburbs and popular shopping districts before heading south towards Phillip Island. Our day ahead is full of native animals of all shapes and sizes.
We have a brief stop in the fishing village of San Remo for afternoon tea before crossing the bridge to Phillip Island. Our first stop is Phillip Island Wildlife Park. This park does not allow large coaches and while many other tours choose just to see koalas we think you should see as many unique Australian animals as possible. This park offers the chance to see koalas as well as Tasmanian devils, eagles, flying foxes, echidnas, goanas, casawaries and other species you may not get to see
elsewhere. You even have the opportunity to feed kangaroos, wallabies and wombats while being shown around the park by your guide.
A delicious dinner awaits you at a local restaurant on the waterfront in Cowes. A short walk on the boardwalks at the ‘Nobbies’ can sometimes result in seeing penguins during the day waiting for their returning mate. It also gives you the chance to observe the home of Australia’s largest fur seal colony. As sunset approaches, we move on to see the famous Little Penguins at the Phillip Island Nature Park. We explore the award winning Visitor Center where informative displays
set the scene for the amazing penguin parade. Your experience here is not the standard viewing. We prefer the more personal ‘Penguins Plus’ experience where, in a small group a ranger will talk you through the parade in a restricted area.
After the experience and a warm drink we make an express journey back to Melbourne and your hotel.
Our Evening with Penguins tour is a private tour only which departs at 1400 (1300 outside Daylight Saving Time) from Melbourne. Pickups are available from all city hotels within Melbourne. Passengers will be returned to their points of departure at the completion of the tour.
Tours include :
• 1 x 2 course dinner
• Entrance fees as per itinerary
• Upgrade to Penguin +
• Private group travel

Glen picked us up at our hotel and we were lucky enough to be the only couple booked that day so got a private tour! Unfortunately there was torrential rain and fog on day one, which disrupted our views, however Glen still managed to time our stops/adjust around the weather to make it an enjoyable day nonetheless. We tried to have a sense of humour about it and he even took us to a craft beer tasting as an alternative activity.
Spectacular dinner at Chris' and simple but decent cottage accommodation.
Did our rain forest walk in the morning and Day 2 was much better weather Glen made sure we had lots of time wherever we wanted to spend it; and we had spectacular views of the 12 apostles and coastline.
We highly recommend this tour to those looking for a more personal experience and a relaxed pace. Glen was an extremely knowledgeable and easy-going guide, and a very safe driver. (Someone in another review mentioned long silences but we appreciated having some quiet time vs having someone talking non-stop for 8-9 hours. ) The choices for meal stops were excellent and the mini-van was comfortable for the long days in the car. Thanks again for a great experience!
Pros: Hotel pickup; great communication; reasonable pricing; well planned itinerary; some hidden, special treats; wildlife, amazing views, fantastic dinner; lovely rest stops; small group; personal guide who is respectful and caring.
Cons: Uncomfortable van seats; long periods of silence (To explain further, I'm loquacious and I like tidbits of information as part of my tours. Glen, our guide is reserved, he offered interesting info at stops, but seldom spoke unless a specific question was asked, and no music or background noise to break the silence, this made day one very long and somewhat boring) We rode back with Eddie who was much more jovial and talkative, a better fit for our personalities; terrible accommodation selection - yes, great views but tired, old, dusty and unkept).
