Leon and Stephan were brilliant rafting guides would do a full day in future
️️️
Thanks team!!
The brief at the beginning could be a bit shorter to help focus on the most important things (maybe a piece of it directly in the water if you can).
Will be booking again when we come back up this way.
John and Ashley made us feel welcome and excited for the day ahead. They were experienced, friendly As we have young kids coming with us, they always put safety first. They made sure we were properly equipped with gear and gave us a thorough safety briefing before we hit the rapids.
John and Ashley were excellent at navigating the raft and keeping us safe, while also making sure we had a blast. Throughout the trip, they shared interesting facts about the surrounding landscape and wildlife, making the experience even more enjoyable and educational for kids.
Overall, I would highly recommend Sports Rafting to anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure in Cairns. And if you're lucky enough to have John and Ashley as your coach, you're in for a real treat! They truly made our day one we'll never forget.
If you’re looking for a safe and exciting adventure that puts you in the heart of nature, look no further. Ashlea and John were very thorough when it came to the safety briefing, before heading down the Tully Gorge.
Through a series of 16 different rapids (each one different from the next), the birds and butterflies followed us down the river the whole way, while we took in all the sights, smells and sounds. This tour will spark your adrenaline and tickles all the senses and should not be missed if you’re in the Mission Beach and surrounding area.
Very reasonably priced, with friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff has us giving this trip all the stars it deserves. A big thanks to Allen for setting this up and making us feel like family the whole way through.
Thank you Wildside, we will be back for sure!
At that point we wanted to stop, but .You can’t get off!
So we managed to get to the end, me squeezed in the middle of the instructor and my younger 9 year old grandson. At the end it was clear that everyone else had a great time, and I stress we were looked after, but there is a moral here, please don’t do this if you haven’t done this before and are older adults, more importantly do not have young children in your boat if you are inexperienced or a greenhorn! Always put them with a instructor. If they had been in our boats, neither my husband and I could have rescued my grandchildren we couldn’t save ourselves. Moreover both grandsons were scared we were going to die and this frightened them. Can’t fault Leon, Tash and Ash for looking after us once we were rescued, and the other group who were experienced has a fab time. But we learnt a valuable lesson, and I dread to think what might have happened had we had one grandson each in our two man boat.
Thanks Wild Side
Cheer Jo and Russ.
Thanks John and team. Highly recommend.
I took my 9 year old and 11year old. I totally recommend it for adults but I would never recommend it for children under 12. My 11 year old went into the water when the raft flipped and although he is a good swimmer he was very scared in the water and went under a few times. If my 9 year old had fallen in he would have really struggled to keep his head above the water.
It was great to have your own raft but if you don't have a lot of experience it was hard to control especially with kids who don’t have the strength to do a lot of paddling
On to the river for some practice paddling and practice flip and climb back in. The guides were so generous and encouraging.
Now the paddling fun really began, like the novices we all were, everyone entered the first rapid too quickly and we had a "rapid jam of boats". The guides were so patient and encouraging and got us all untangled and on our way .. for us to do it again on the next rapid!! Team WildSide you have the patience of a saint!!!! Thankyou!!
Finally we all had ourselves sorted to not all rush in at once and the rapids flowed!!
As a family with teens this was an amazing day out. The teenagers bounced down the rapids, as the mum I kind of kept getting caught, missteering or generally going in the wrong spot. The guides were incredible, kept me calm, rescued my lodged boat and were so incredibly encouraging!! As a family we all had an amazing day from an adreniline rush and pushing boundaries to relaxing with floating between rapids and admiring the incredible scenery.
If you are thinking of a fun family day out, that will push the boundaries and engage the teens then I highly recommend this outing. Be brave and go!!
Team WildSide could not be more professional, engaging or patient. They are incredible! 5 star service and day out!!! Thankyou!!!!
Tips: wear reef shoes or shoes you can get wet and stay on. The guys can provide some if not. A cap is handy too. You have to think about how you're going down the rapids so don't be too hungover! Make sure you have enough sun protection on, I burnt my legs.
We chose to self drive to Tully Information Centre 12:30pm, where we met the rest of the group and our guides Max and John. Travelling from the information centre to the start of where you raft takes around 30mins in there 20 seat bus. (Pick up available from Mission Beach too)
Max was very informative on the drive up, gave us all a good laugh with his story on the locals and showed us how to raft, things to look out for, areas to avoid and what to do if you need help. This photo is taken from one of the lookouts on the way up the range.
Changing rooms are available when we stop at the river. They provide helmets, and life jackets. If you didn't have appropriate shoes there were also a few shoes to try on, and a few long sleeve shirts as a free option / free service.
Each of us are given the opportunity to share a double raft or raft it solo, myself slightly sh*tting my pants as I have never jumped in a raft before... I opt to go with my boyfriend.
So before Wildside Adventures lets you take off rafting they make sure you are familiar/comfortable with the raft, how to steer etc. Wildside Adventures Tully, ask you to practise cutting across the white waters against the current and Wildside also get you to tip your raft upside down then show them how to float and then how you climb back into your raft.
My boyfriend tells me he is going to make the trip "wild" and adventurous by taking the wetter route at each section. In this case now that I am use to the raft part - I am strongly regretting my decision to jump in with him.
Fortunately he isn't the best with steering, which was his job as back seat passenger...
The mountains surrounding the Tully river are amazing, the rainforest landscape on both sides of the river whilst rafting down. You are definitely going to get wet, we went in Cairns winter and to be honest at the end of our raft completely soaked it was still warm for us as locals accustomed to permanent hot weather.
Our Wildside Adventure raft guide Max filled us in on the local indigenous dreamtime stories on the way down the river. John certainly knows his stuff with rafting the Tully for many years, his passion, knowledge definitely shows through and he pointed out all his favourite picture perfect views of the mountains, sunlight and river on the way down.
Rafting was sooo much fun! The guides introduced the way down at each section then we would wait at the next until we all came together again. At the end of the trip, we drained our rafts, helped pack the gear away then they drove us back to the change rooms where we could change back into dry clothes. They provide a refreshing beverage on the afternoon tour, which was a definite hit for everyone.
Once we reached Tully Info centre we said our goodbyes and honestly I can't wait to do this again sometime.
Thank you for the amazing half day Tully Rainforest raft, Wildside Adventures!
And to those considering doing this tour, I really appreciated the small groups, I like that the raft was one or two person rather than 8 per raft and I loved the guides attention to detail, caring and funny personalities.
I felt safe and comfortable, and it was well run. Worth every penny :-)
