Sea…the other side of Albany!
There’s no better way to experience summer in Albany than by boat. Albany is home to pristine beaches, turquoise waters and the most beautiful bays in Australia.
Smell the sea in the air and get the wind in your hair as we cruise around Princess Royal Harbour and King George Sound.
Situated in Princess Royal Harbour, part of King George Sound, these waters are steeped in history. Imagine what it would have been like when the first explorers pulled into the harbour as early as 1627 or when the first ANZAC troops departed Albany for WWI in 1914. Cast yourself back in time to the days of the old whaling ships and see the Whaling Station in Frenchman Bay and the shipwreck of the Cheynes II, a 440 ton steam whale chaser.
Our boat is the “Young Salty Dog”, a twin hull catamaran and an ex Sea Rescue vessel that is safe and stable. Holding up to 12 passengers, Captain Mark Muscat will give you a personalised tour of the harbour and King George Sound.
We’ll navigate through the Ataturk Channel, past Point King Lighthouse and Point Possession. You’ll see the ANZAC Centre on Mount Clarence from the sea. Out in the King George Sound you’ll gaze in awe at the beautiful turquoise waters of Mistaken Island. The amazing South Coast is renowned for its pristine white beaches and we cruise past Brambles, Whalers Cove/Fisheries (a local nudist beach), Goode and Middleton Beach in Princess Royal Harbour. We also see Camp Quaranup, built in 1875 as a quarantine station with a powder magazine built on Geake Island. Be reminded of whaling days gone by with a visit to an old shipwrecked Whale Chaser, the Cheynes II which broke its moorings and ran aground. It can be seen from the shores of Albany but it’s incredible to view up close and a photographers favourite.

Brilliant trip A fantastic experience, even with weather conditions being on the gloomy side. Our two boys loved it too. Highly recommend.
Scenic tour by boat Fantastic experience with Captain Mark. Wonderful scenic tour of the Albany waters
Scenic tour Fantastic tour with Captain Mark.
Definitely booking with Captain Mark on King George Sound Safari again My family and I, had the absolute best time on King George Sound Safari for the lighting of the sound. It was an absolute pleasure to be on board with Captain Mark. Definitely money and time well spent. Will be booking a tour in the near future.
I was on a tour of lightning of the sound . . On the king George safari tours . On the weekend . Lightning of the sound Was absolutely overjoyed by the lighting of the sound experience on the week end with king George safari tours. Was absolutely majestic . Beautiful night with a very informative and awesome Captain Mark. The boat was comfortable but is at the mercy of the waves and weather of the day, so any customers should be ready for the conditions of the cruise ahead.
5 Star Salty dog experience Highly recommend the scenic cruise/whale watching tour with Captain Mark on the Salty Dog. The King George Sound Safari was a great day out for the adults and young children. Lots of history learnt with plenty of laughs/dad jokes along the way. If you use your manners, the kids may get a chance to steer the boat and wear the captains hat. We will defiantly be return customers for this tour.
Awesome Experience Highly recommend this great tour. We were lucky enough to see dolphins to make our experience very enjoyable. Captain Mark had a lot of interesting information about Albany which was great .
A wonderful trip around the Sound. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip on the King George Safari. We were in a group of around 12 people. Mark was entertaining and informative. Sadly we didn't see any whales but it was simply too late in the season.
Afternoon with Captain Mark We were a group of 7 friends on a cruise ship and booked directly with King George Sound Safari. Two of us had taken the cruise previously. Easy walk from ship to mooring. Beautiful afternoon, a little choppy to begin and then pristine blue waters, beautiful coast and beaches. A great commentary from Captain Mark.
A fun day enjoyed by all and highly recommended. Thank you.
Entertaining!!! 20/10 Stars!! What an experience!! Captain Mark was bloody awesome!! It was a laugh from start to the end and by far the best cruise we have ever been on! BTW the music was epic!! Thank you again Mark, for the best experience during our adventure girls trip in Albany, it was a great experience to end our holiday with!! Ooops . I mean CAPTAIN MARK!! Hahaha We also want to beat your record for star reviews and give you a whopping 20 out of 10 stars, you're an absolute superstar! P.S. Thank you for fixing my GPS holder too!! Haha
Great Day on King George Sound Captain Mark did an excellent job of finding a mother and calf Southern right whale for us to see, beautiful creatures. We also saw dolphins, a shipwreck, an old relic of a former lighthouse and white sand beaches. We enjoyed our time out on King George Sound.Captain Mark went out of his way to accommodate our ship's late arrival time in Albany. We liked that it was a small group experience and everyone had great space to take photos. The 4 in our group had a fantastic experience. Thank you Captain Mark for sharing your boat, stories, information and bad Dad jokes with us.
Whale tour Captain Mark is one of the friendliest captains I've met, with an amazing sense of humor. Would definitely go on other tours with him.
A personable journey. The limited number of passengers available to go out made this experience more relaxed and comfortable. Having been on bigger vessels before at this time of year- this smaller boat meant no 'sea sickness' and you felt like it was more of a 'family experience'. Having less room meant easy to enjoy the views more and move from one side to the other.I went on the King George Sound Safari whale tour and had a great time out on the water. The crew were fun, a bit cheeky, and made the trip both educational and enjoyable. We learned a lot about the whales and the local coastline, and even got to see a few out in the open sea. A really cool experience that definitely worth it.
Wonderful happy interesting experience Wonderful experience with pilot 2? Had a wonderful day filled with interesting facts from a guy who definitely knows his stuff.
Excellent tour! Captain Mark shared his extensive knowledge and history of Albany. While it was a bit wet and cold for the whales today, it was still a great trip!!
The BEST boat ride. Great experience! Our captain was super funny and made us comfortable. He told us lots of facts and jokes and we were lucky enough to spot a couple of dolphins and a shipwreck! Definitely another bucket list adventure!!!
Captain Mark's King George Sound Safari is a holiday must! We recently had the good luck to snag three seats on Captain Mark’s King George Sound Safari. And what a morning we had! With his dry wit, our skipper made our trip feel personal – he unveiled interesting briny insights while eagle-eyeing for whales, dolphins and seals and taking us alongside the wrecked whale-chaser, Cheynes II, with its enthralling, sprawling tale (of which Mark has his own captivating anecdote), all to a carefully curated toe-tapping playlist that he astutely adjusts to suit his clientele. Notable mentions include (but are not limited to) the whaling station and Misery Beach. As an unkeen sailor, I felt safe with Skipper Mark at the helm. Thoroughly recommended is Captain Mark’s safari on his Young Salty Dog. A highlight of our Albany stay!
Photographer's dream day out! As a group of photographers we were spoilt for choice on this cruise. A glorious winters day with the sun shining brightly. We didn't see any wildlife today, but that didn't matter as the weather was perfect, Captain Mark was firing on 6 cylinders and tge scenery was fabulous. Have done this cruise most years and will definitely do it again. Thanks Mark.
Whales are cool 😎 We had such a great time the scenery was amazing and to see the whales up close like that was an experience we will never forget ❤️ can't wait for the next trip thank you legends
Great afternoon out on the water. Would highly recommend this tour, the Captain is very informative and has a great sense of humour (Dad jokes are his thing lol) he even snuck a selfie of himself in whilst offering to take my pic on my phone lol I didn’t spot it until I was home. The smaller group and boat just makes the experience more personal and I would recommend that over the bigger tour boats/groups.
Great afternoon out on the water.
Great value for money Class day out with capt mark - very funny, very informative would highly highly recommend this excursion well worth the money .. he'll even let you buy him a beer after ! Weather was perfect and got to see dolphins aswell as whales
Sea Safari adventure Went out for a trip with Capt Mark. Weather was perfect. He was welcoming and provided details of the region. Along the way we had the company of dolphins and as we got further out we saw the play of whales in the harbour. We ventured out to the front of the boat and it was fantastic. By the end we had seen so much and enjoyed the company of others. Thanks Mark.
Great experience Very enjoyable, and captain Mark had good knowledge of the area. We were treated to dolphins and whales on our trip. Weather was perfect which made it most enjoyable.Captain Mark has a very quirky sense of humour and ensured our tour was fun and very informative - the quiz adds a little competition to the experience 🥳
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great but Captain Mark had us all entertained regardless and it’s very obvious he is very knowledgeable about the history of this beautiful place and has some fantastic photos he shared with the group
We all had a great time and would definitely recommend King George Sound Safari tours for anyone visiting Albany
Wow 👌 Absolutely fab trip with Captain Mark. Great host, beautiful views and great company. Thanks go to the City of Albany and Mark for collaborating - seniors week has been awesome.
What an experience ! What an experience !Watching whales was one of our dreams.
When we saw Captain Mark's little boat compares to the big tourists boats, we thought we had to take our chance !
Unfortunately no whales or dolphins to be seen on this beautiful day, we cannot force nature But we had such an exquisite time thanks to Captain Mark who made our day !
We learned and laughed a lot !!
He kindly offered us to come back for free next time as we haven't seen any whales.
Thank you so much for this amazing experience we will never forget !
We will come back for sure, so see ya Captain Mark !

A great couple of hours!! Great morning out on the water. We were a bit late in the year to see Whales but there is still so much to see and we were taken everywhere. Good to see Albany from a different perspective. Many photos taken, Thank you
Awesome day with Captain Mark! Absolutely fantastic day out with Captain Mark! When we booked, Captain Mark let us know we were late in the season for whales- we still took the tour and had an awesome adventure on the water. We got an informative and fun tour, Mark didn't waffle on about unnecessary stuff, just the facts with some humour. He was happy to answer our questions. The boat is a good little size, it was windy and there is room to shelter from the weather. His tour was just the right length, it gave us spectacular views of stunning Albany and it was just so relaxing and lovely being out on the water. Whales? Well they don't come when they're called folks! You can't predict what any creature will do, and unfortunately we didn't see whales, but still had an absolutely top day and would recommend this tour with Mark to everyone. Thanks again Captain!!
Great Experience A beautiful way to spend a morning! The boat is comfortable and cozy, with inner and outter seating. Captain Mark was a delight and kept everyone laughing. Prepare yourself for fish puns. The highlight was standing up on the deck while dolphins swam mere feet from me in the water, following our boat!
Highly recommended~
Great day out enjoying the views Albany has to offer Had a great day out with King George Sound Safari, unfortunately we weren’t lucky enough to see any whales on this occasion but skipper Mark made up for it with the beautiful scenery, relaxed vibe and sense of humour. Highly recommend.
Albany's best Whale Watching Cruise Beautiful out on the water today. Mark's knowledge of local attractions and information was very interesting.. I never knew that about that fine mineral sand and Olympics.. if you want to know you'll have to take the tour
Lots of Dolphins swimming and racing us then we saw the whalesSuch majestic creature's, Mark's keen eye spotted a few for us. We will definitely go again . Thanks again Mark.
Whale of a time! We were so lucky to see a pair of whales within the first hour of our trip - they even choreographed a routine for us! We enjoyed our three-hour trip with Captain Mark who provided plenty of interesting and entertaining facts about Albany and the local wildlife and attractions. Highly recommended!
Best experience of my life Thankyou captain mark!! This was a very pleasant experience with a very pleasant captain. We saw more than enough whales and had more than enough fun.
Thankyou!!!
Unforgettable Superb activity! Lots of dolphins following the boat and swimming with us. We were lucky enough to see a whale up close, with incredible scenery and very interesting explanations from the guide. All this in a pleasant atmosphere. I fully recommend King George Sound and will gladly return, unforgettable expérience.
Fun trip and learn so much! Fun trip and entertaining! Mark has a unique sense of humour and it’s awesome ???? I recommend this to anyone who wants to find out more about Albany.
A very pleasant 2 hour boat tour punctuated with interesting facts about sea life in Albany and history of the area. A very well presented tour, full of interesting facts from Captain Mark about the wildlife and history of the sites we saw in King George Sound from the boat.
Amazing Albany Great experience. Very knowledgeable Cap’n. Corniest of jokes. I gave him this:If you weigh whales in a whale weigh station, where would you weigh a pie?
Go on Cap’n Marks safari, he’ll give you the answer!
Captain Mark - A breath of fresh air! What a relaxed and joy filled experience. Captain Mark generously shares his knowledge of Albany and goes out of his way to make the journey memorable. I came away with more respect for our beautiful environment and a greater understanding of the area. There was plenty of good and bad jokes with lots of banter, which kept everyone laughing for the 2 hours. As I was travelling solo this broke the ice with other passengers. Thankyou Mark.
Fun scenic tour I’ve been on Captain Mark’s boat twice now and each time I’ve learned lots of interesting facts about my hometown and sea life. We didn’t get to see whales this time as the season was over but it was a great way to see a different side to Albany, to the beautiful coastlines, wildlife, and the history surrounding the area is always magical. Definitely recommend to anyone travelling to Albany or even as a local. Mark is knowledgeable and hilarious and you’re bound to have a great time!
Best tourist experience in Albany Great afternoon. Enjoyed every minute. Experienced skipper. Lots of fun. Very safe. Well worth the cost. Adrian and Lee.
What an amazing time We had a great time even when we didn’t see any whales Mark, the skipper went out of his way to ensure everybody on board had a good time he was great with the kids and we continued travelling around until the very last minute he wasn’t happy until we saw something as it was he found some dolphins and the kids were slowed up front to watch them play with the boat we couldn’t have asked for a more positive experience thanks mate
Out in the Sound It was a great experience. Unfortunately we did not see a single whale, or dolphin, but one very sleepy seal . Mark was engaging and everyone had a turn at steering. We learnt interesting facts, but were not overloaded. The weather was sublime. He also reitterated that we could go again for free any other time this season.
Wonderful experience We have travelled over 3000kms so far and this has been a highlight for sure. We had an amazing morning out exploring the area, captain Mark made the trip, he's full of knowledge and humour, a real people person. We really enjoyed the personal touch. My daughter was made to feel very special by Mark and has raved about "driving". We will definitely be back. Thanks so much Mark.
Great & Fantastic Cruise We were a bit concerned about the weather, but Captain Mark assured us there was a westerlies and the cruise would be fine. Had a fantastic morning cruising with interesting history, stories and unusual facts!! It is obvious Captain Mark loves what he does as he is extremely personable and a sense of humour that fitted in well with us. Being a small boat the cruise is very personal that made the trip. Overall a great day despite the fact we didn’t see any whales. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a great cruise around King George Sound.

Great fishing! Great trip, best captain Thank you very much Captain Mark, enjoyed Young salty dog, and the experienceThe boat was a great size - I personally like smaller boats as it feels more personal compared to the big boats you see offering similar experiences. Everyone on board had a great laugh and will never forget our time on the trip. We sat at the top of the boat which was great as you could see for miles!
Thank you Mark for giving us a truly memorable experience - oh and thanks for all the knowledgeable facts too ????
We will for sure book your trip again when we are next visiting Albany - Hopefully with more luck seeing Whales ????
