Discover the Magic of Albany from the Water!
There is no better way to experience summer in Albany than by boat. Albany is home to pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and the most beautiful bays in Australia. Feel the fresh sea breeze in your hair and smell the salt in the air as we cruise around Princess Royal Harbour and King George Sound on an unforgettable coastal adventure.
Why You’ll Love This Tour
- Rich Local History: Step back in time to 1627 when the first explorers arrived, or 1914 when the first ANZAC troops departed Albany for WWI. Gaze at the historic Whaling Station in Frenchman Bay and get up close to the shipwreck of the Cheynes II, a 440-tonne steam whale chaser.
- Intimate & Personalised: Travel aboard the “Young Salty Dog”, a safe, stable twin-hull catamaran (ex-Sea Rescue vessel). With a maximum of 12 passengers, Captain Mark Muscat provides a highly personalised, crowd-free experience.
- Spectacular Sights: Navigate through the Ataturk Channel, past Point King Lighthouse and Point Possession. View the ANZAC Centre on Mount Clarence from the sea, and marvel at the turquoise waters of Mistaken Island, Brambles, Goode Beach, Middleton Beach, and even Whalers Cove (a local nudist beach!).
- Fascinating Landmarks: See Camp Quaranup, built in 1875 as a quarantine station, and the powder magazine on Geake Island.
Onboard Comforts & Perks
- BYO Friendly: Bring your own food and drinks (including alcohol) to enjoy on the water.
- Complimentary BBQ: A BBQ is available on request at no extra charge!
- Sun Protection & Facilities: The boat features a full roof to keep you shaded, plenty of sunscreen on board, and an onboard toilet for your convenience.

The cruise crossed the strait, where we enjoyed sea‑view glimpses of iconic coastal sights such as Point King Lighthouse and Seal Island. We also passed an old whaling station and historic shipwreck ruins, bringing together cultural heritage and natural scenery.
Whale‑watching season runs from May to October. Dolphins and seals can be spotted all year round. The tour is packed with highlights and offers great value for money. I would highly recommend it to anyone travelling in Western Australia.
Example he showed us some pictures on the iPad and he like shoved it right up in your face for like half a second and then moved to the next person. He did this I think twice for seperate things.
But overall his jokes just didn’t come across as like playful taking the piss, just rude 🤷♀️
I mean whatever maybe just not my cup of tea.
Went on this couple months ago and this still sticking out in my mind as an odd experience.
He did say not to leave a review if you didn’t like it 😅.
To top it off, we were surrounded by dolphins swimming alongside us—an incredible sight and truly a memory of a lifetime. Highly recommended!
The boat was comfortable but is at the mercy of the waves and weather of the day, so any customers should be ready for the conditions of the cruise ahead.
Beautiful afternoon, a little choppy to begin and then pristine blue waters, beautiful coast and beaches. A great commentary from Captain Mark.
A fun day enjoyed by all and highly recommended. Thank you.
Captain Mark went out of his way to accommodate our ship's late arrival time in Albany. We liked that it was a small group experience and everyone had great space to take photos. The 4 in our group had a fantastic experience. Thank you Captain Mark for sharing your boat, stories, information and bad Dad jokes with us.
I went on the King George Sound Safari whale tour and had a great time out on the water. The crew were fun, a bit cheeky, and made the trip both educational and enjoyable. We learned a lot about the whales and the local coastline, and even got to see a few out in the open sea. A really cool experience that definitely worth it.
The smaller group and boat just makes the experience more personal and I would recommend that over the bigger tour boats/groups.
Great afternoon out on the water.
Captain Mark has a very quirky sense of humour and ensured our tour was fun and very informative - the quiz adds a little competition to the experience 🥳
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great but Captain Mark had us all entertained regardless and it’s very obvious he is very knowledgeable about the history of this beautiful place and has some fantastic photos he shared with the group
We all had a great time and would definitely recommend King George Sound Safari tours for anyone visiting Albany
Watching whales was one of our dreams.
When we saw Captain Mark's little boat compares to the big tourists boats, we thought we had to take our chance !
Unfortunately no whales or dolphins to be seen on this beautiful day, we cannot force nature But we had such an exquisite time thanks to Captain Mark who made our day !
We learned and laughed a lot !!
He kindly offered us to come back for free next time as we haven't seen any whales.
Thank you so much for this amazing experience we will never forget !
We will come back for sure, so see ya Captain Mark !
Frenchies Matthias and Marine
The highlight was standing up on the deck while dolphins swam mere feet from me in the water, following our boat!
Highly recommended~
Mark's knowledge of local attractions and information was very interesting.. I never knew that about that fine mineral sand and Olympics.. if you want to know you'll have to take the tour
Lots of Dolphins swimming and racing us then we saw the whalesSuch majestic creature's, Mark's keen eye spotted a few for us. We will definitely go again . Thanks again Mark.
We saw more than enough whales and had more than enough fun.
Thankyou!!!
I recommend this to anyone who wants to find out more about Albany.
If you weigh whales in a whale weigh station, where would you weigh a pie?
Go on Cap’n Marks safari, he’ll give you the answer!
