Absolutely stunning! We did a sunset cruise, and it was just perfect. The platter had a delicious mix of fruits, cheeses, nuts and other local produce, even gluten free crackers for me. We purchased multiple glasses of their local wines, and enjoyed the short commentaries along our journey. Our hosts were super friendly and accommodating, and the story of building their boat and business, fascinating. It’s so worth doing!!! Can’t wait to come back to SA with more of our friends and do it again 😍

We had an amazing time on the sunset cruise with River Gum Cruises last night. James & Sandra are fantastic hosts. They Served platters of local produce, some of which they grow themselves. James spent 14 years building the boat from an old lifeboat. What an achievement!

An amazing cruise on the Murray River on board ‘Qatar’ an elegant boat that was envisioned and hand built by the lovely and hospitable Sandra and James. We enjoyed relaxing on deck and exploring new bird life, limestone cliffs, native gum and mallee trees growing right on the banks of the River Murray. Great hospitality with a local produce board to share with other guests as well as a variety of drinks to order. The boat is spacious with a variety of spaces to enjoy and move around. Highly recommended!

A Perfect Evening on the Mighty Murray River What a delightful way to unwind after a day of adventures! My American wife and I decided to treat ourselves to a cruise on the Mighty Murray, followed by dinner at a local restaurant, and it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable evenings we've had.

Having lived just 20 minutes outside Waikerie for two years, now, this was our first experience on the river, and it did not disappoint. James and Sandra are exceptional hosts. James takes immense pride in his boat, “Qatar,” which he built himself over more than a decade. Raised in Waikerie, his passion for boating and the river’s incredible lifestyle is evident as soon as you set sail. James gentle and timely commentary as you meander up and downstream, makes the experience even more enriching.

Sandra is an equally warm and inspiring hostess, and together, they create a welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. It’s clear that they genuinely love sharing their beautiful “backyard” with everyone, and their enthusiasm is infectious. They are great ambassadors for our patch. My American wife and I are inspired to be more touristy than local, more frequently, going forward. Thanks folks!

How's The Serenity! Ok, this is my third cruise on the Qatar with Rivergum Cruises. Sandra and James are wonderful hosts, full of local knowledge that they willingly share on a very comfortable boat. I'll be back - probably quite a few more times! I would have taken my elderly Mum on her visit, but sadly she wouldn't have made the trip from the car down to the boat. Can you put in some shallow steps or a ramp, Waikerie Council?

A grand day out The vessel is well appointed and suitable for all ages. Scenery spectacular. The operators are friendly and eager to share stories of the river and the boats on origins and construction. And most pleasantly surprising they do not gouge you with drink prices were very reasonable. Looking forward to our next trip.

Afternoon cruise on the Murray River upstream from Waikerie. Beautiful scenery under the cliffs and trees along the riverbank, and heaps of birdlife to see. The boat is well equipped, well looked after and comfortable. Very friendly and knowledgeable hosts, grazing platter, and a couple of drinks made for an enjoyable and relaxing outing. The boat is so comfortable, the different spaces you can enjoy, out the back, inside, up on top deck or out the front, the river views are great. A great way to celebrate a family birthday. A great way to celebrate my husbands 80th birthday with family from interstate. A perfect sunny winters day cruising along the River Murray. Our hosts, James and Sandra, were a wealth of information about the sights along the way. A generous grazing platter with wine or coffee added to the experience. Sunset cruise We had a lovely relaxing evening onboard the Rivergum. It was great way for the budding photographer like myself to capture spectacular views of the Murray with all its fauna & flora, whilst being wined & dined on this sunset cruise.

We stayed couple of nights in Loxton, on the way back home to Adelaide we stopped at Waikerie and took the Rivergum Boat Cruise to explore the beautiful Murry river.
I has been great pleasure to meet Sandra and James who are very friendly and informative.
The hospitalities were amazing, I've been very fortunate to have great conversations with both Sandra and James who are very pleasant to talk and very knowledgeable about their profession.
I highly recommend other travelers to consider this very relaxing and memorable trip.

Relaxing sunset river cruise This was a beautiful way to see the Murray River. Saw amazing limestone clips, river birds including the amazing pelican. James has an amazing insight into the history and details of the river, and Sandra serves up a beautifully homegrown platter of fruits and delicacies. There is local wine to enjoy as well. This cruise is one of the only that you can do locally in the Riverland and is well worth doing if you want to enjoy some peaceful time on the river.

A perfect afternoon cruise A group of us (10 friends) enjoyed a wonderful cruise with Sandy & James and we couldn't be happier. We loved the boat, there was room to spread out and relax, the platter was very tasty and included lots of local produce. There was a great variety of wine and beer to choose from whilst on board and the commentary was very interesting. Rivergum cruises We had perfect weather when we did the sunset river cruise. James and Sandra were the perfect hosts, sharing some of their home grown produce and locally grown produce. It is great to try local foods. the scenery was just fantastic. The river is so peaceful.

Special guests on this labour of love I cannot praise this experience enough. The Qatar is a labour of love for James and Sandra, so from the moment you step on board, you are treated like valued guests in their own home.
I cruised with a friend during a recent stay in the area. We enjoyed every aspect of the experience. Their on board bar serves a nice selection of drinks, including some terrific local wines. Whilst relaxing and enjoying a drink, as James leisurely guides the boat and points out interesting things along the way, Sandra offers guests a generous selection of local produce on a tasting platter, much of which she has prepared herself, including produce from their "block" at Ramco.
Talking with James about the boat and their life, his passion and love for what he does and where he lives is palpable.
He and Sandra are such nice people and they made us feel very special guests.
Oh - I almost forgot the beautiful scenery from various locations around the boat. I love the Murray at the best of times, but on a slow cruise at sunset, with a drink and tasty treats, it's something special.
I can't stop telling people about how enjoyable the cruise was. I'll be booking more in the future. It represents amazing value for money.

We travelled an hour each way from where we we staying and it was totally worth it. Two amazing hosts who love what they do and are passionate and knowledgeable about the local area. Beautiful hand crafted boat, unbelievably comfy. All six of us aged 8 to 70 had an awesome time. Couldn't ask for nicer people who made it special for all of us. Great food included in price and very reasonably priced local wines. Tour was a bit pricier than other/closer options but thankfully they weren't available as this tour was worth every cent.

Super relaxing and informative cliff tour. The platters of food that are offered around are sourced locally and the dried fruit is from Sandra's own trees. The boat is clean and modern and very comfy no matter what part you choose to sit. Would definitely recommend these guys for a cruise, wed love to come back for the sunset one.

The Murray River Cruise was something that was on our list ever since we moved to Australia but we never got around to doing it due to various reasons. Luckily enough, my sister in the USA gave us a gift voucher to Rivergum cruises at Murray river as a wedding gift.

We called Rivergum cruises and booked in a date. Spoke to Sandra and she was very patient with all our queries(always happy to help).

The day arrived and we were greeted with the warmest smiles from James and Sandra. We took the Yarra cliffs tour and the sights were spectacular. The water had a very calming effect and the cruise was very relaxing.

The journey on Qatar was not just about the cruise but also about the story of how it came to be. It took James 14 years to build the boat and if you ever do the cruise, please leaf through the album of how she was built. It truly is an inspiring story.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and look forward to going back on another one of their tours.
