Do you want to make the most of your visit to Melbourne and
immerse yourself in the local culture? Heard about the cool laneways in
Melbourne and want to discover some of the best with a friendly local?
Don’t miss a special selection of secret galleries, hidden shops and
laneway cafes!
This wonderful, cultural walking tour of Melbourne will give you a
feel for this city that only comes with spending time with a passionate,
knowledgeable local. During the tour you will be able to enjoy a
chocolate and coffee tasting, experience a customised mix of history,
architecture, street art, galleries, shops, interesting stories and more
in a small group of no more than 10 people.
On select days, our tour concludes with a lunch near the State Library of Victoria. Lunch is held at Mr. Tulk Cafe which in itself has a beautiful back story, for more info and full menu (http://www.mrtulk.com.au/). The lunch includes anything on the menu or specials menu and a drink of your choice. Your tour guide on the day will join you for lunch.
The Laneways of Melbourne tour will start at 10am (based on minimum numbers – we need 2 to run) outside St Paul’s Cathedral, corner of Swanston Street and Flinders Street, Melbourne – in front of the steps leading to the cathedral’s side door on the Swanston Street side. (See the area immediately below the west spire of the church behind the corner power pole in the picture attached: StPaulsside.jpg).
Your tour guide will be carrying a blue MELTours shoulder bag with a yellow strap.
Please note that in case of no-shows and cancellations within 24 hours of the tour, in order to keep your booking, a re-booking fee is needed to reschedule. To get the most out of your tour we recommend that you obtain a drink or visit the rest room and be at the start point 5 minutes prior.
The tour will run each and every time except if lightning or hail is seen, either at the start or during the tour. Note that all tours have a 13yo+ limit which is enforced as all tours contain adult concepts.
This is the tour booking confirmation – no other tickets will be issued. We will see you on the day.
Your mobile number will be used to advise of any last minute issues via text or in the event of the tour is cancelled, we will provide 24-hours notice or longer via text and email where possible.
Note that this is not a tour that enters laneway after laneway, as there are approximately 135 laneways in the city! Our tours use example laneways to highlight the unique culture and also hidden spaces or obscure buildings.

This is the 2nd tour I've done with MELTours (the other being the Miss Fisher tour with Kathy), and I have found them to exceed my expectations, with very passionate and experienced tour guides, in a small group setting. Highly recommend.

Kathy D indeed brought to life the scenes of many inner Melbourne locations of the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries series set in the 1920’s. Kathy combined the characters, their real lives too, connections with events and personalities of the time with highlights of the daring entrepreneurs of fashion, art, and architecture and the wizardry behind filmmaking! This is my second tour with Mel Tours, so truly recommend them.

A small group so very easy to chat and make decisions on which bar to have a drink at.
Sam was knowledgeable and shared insights and stories.
Bars were great, some we knew and others we would never have found on our own. We were able to stop at some and take a peek at others.
Well worth out time and a good evening.

Kathy was knowledgeable and showed much passion about the city.
Truly worth it.

It was wonderful to listen to all the stories you told and look at the city with new eyes.

Take notes of any tips you find interesting, all her fashion and food recommendations were excellent.

What San doesn't know about the history of Melbourne is not worth knowing. He told us so much history and then expanded further as we passed a building of interest or some interesting lane way art. He even bought us a cup of coffee!!
This tour was most enjoyable and I would recommend it to any visitor to Melbourne.
