At $138 per person, I expected an experience with meaningful opportunities to observe the stars through telescopes. Unfortunately, it did not match that expectation.
We were transported on a large bus with multiple stops and ended up in a group of around 46 people. With only three telescopes available, the experience felt overcrowded and rushed. There was very limited time at the telescopes, and no consistent guidance on what we were viewing due to staff needing to manage multiple groups at once.
While the staff were professional and did their best, the setup made it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. The lecture portion was interesting but hard to hear because of other nearby groups going on at the same time. A significant portion of the evening was spent waiting in line—particularly for photos and telescope access—rather than actually engaging with the stargazing.
Overall, much of the time was spent on transport and waiting, which made the experience feel underwhelming for the price. We did 3 other experiences while in Yulara, which were fantastic. This experience was ridiculously overpriced and overcrowded.
However, we had attended the Sound of Silence Dinner the previous evening, and the presentation on the night's sky was detailed and beautifully delivered. It was informative and magical. This was not the case for this tour.
It was slightly chaotic from the start. The presentation was lackluster with the presenter not being able to remember a few of the stars' names!
The photo op was nice but felt that that was the main focus of the evening. Why pay a couple of $100 for a photo?
We were then left to wander in the dark on our own.
For me, it was not value for money. I think it could be a great tour if the amateur enthusiasts were not so amateur.
They have a wealth of knowledge about astronomy and are passionate about sharing it you. It’s more than just a tour.
The location is magical and you have plenty of time to absorb and enjoy the star gazing experience. The true stars were our tour guiding team!
The telescope part - which we were most excited about - lasted just a few seconds per person, with almost nothing to see and no real explanation. Most of the time we just waited in line to take one photo with Uluru.
Sadly, this felt more like a tourist trap than a professional or enriching experience.
For the price we paid, it really wasn’t good value for money. Would not recommend
The guides were knowledgeable and fun - great stories shared about the stars. Telescopes were really cool and the photo was fab!
Thanks so much 😊
We got to look at the moon, planets, stars and more through the two telescopes and had experts on hand to answer all questions that we had!
Chairs, blankets, binoculars and assistance with photos was provided!
The cherry on the cake was the cool photograph that we had taken at the end of the night with both Uluru and the stars in the background!
I would 100% recommend this tour to everybody wanting to do a proper stargazing tour! I had an awesome evening! ✨
We originally booked for Saturday but due to heavy cloud coverage, the tour couldn't go ahead that night. The team kept us in the loop about the ever-changing weather and we managed to go the next day - there was no way we were missing this!
It really doesn't matter if you're interested in astronomy or not, this tour is an absolute must - thank you!!
100/10!
Would love to do it all again!
Hints: try to check the moon status and cloud coverage to get the best of sky
My suggestion is wearing warm clothes (they do provide blanket though, nice) and having a full dinner and not drinking too much before joining the tour, coz no toilet for 3 hrs.
Great mix of theory and practice with stories/facts about the moons, planets, stars, galaxies and the milky way, as well as getting to see all of these with the binoculars and then with the telescopes for a closer look.
Not to mention the view of the sky, it was incredible and next level compared to anything I've ever seen. Photo's on your phone could never do it justice.. good thing you get a professional photo included in your tour cost to capture the view.
Worth every dollar, go for it!
The tour meeting place is TownSq
However ourselves and another family
Arrived at Town sq. wondering are we in the right place?
A small sign to suggest we were would have been helpful.
However Joseph came and walked us a few hundred yards
to the designated viewing point . It’s on the edge of the township.
We were fortunate to have a clear starry evening. Chairs were provided
And Joseph began his narrative. He was interesting and well informed
and had a powerful laser light to direct us to the stars/planets that were visible.
We later had a chance to see some stars / planets thru the telescope.
It was interesting but had hoped to see more and there might have been more
Telescopes. We were fortunate that we were just two couples and their daughter.
Thank you Joseph for a interesting evening. ( Astro eve is about 1hr 20min)
The bus was on time and clean, the guide was interesting and helpful. We had a small group of about 15 so we were very lucky to have plenty of viewing and question time. We took small kids with us (4yo) and they were very accomodating opening the bus early when they fell asleep on us. The talk was interesting and pitched at the right knowledge level for us (not the kids but that's okay we knew that when booking), and the scenery very inspiring. It felt very special to be allowed in the park at night and to see the outline of Uluru against the stars.
The Milky Way wasn't positioned above Uluru's shadow like the advertising photos show which I was a bit disappointed by, but if the earth isn't in the right spot, they can't help that! The kids were also tired and grumpy so the photo was pretty poor as we weren't able to stay still to get a clear shot so it turned out blurry.
All in all, I would definitely recommend and will do it again on future visits.
