Fremantle - Convicts, Culture & Street Art
Duration:
Operated By:
Start: 10.00am Fremantle Visitor Information Centre – Walyalup Koort
End: 12:00pm Central Fremantle
Fremantle is Perth’s hip and historical cousin with streets full of heritage buildings, cafés, street art and amazing stories waiting to be shared.
Once home to whaling stations and mass immigration, “Freo” is now a charming town celebrated for its music, culture and history. You’ll hear tales of daring prisoner escapes, see local street art and learn about the expulsion of Indigenous peoples to Rottnest Island. Find out why almost 10,000 men were transported from Great Britain and Ireland as convicts and how they built their own prison. There is no better way to explore Freo than with a local Two Feet guide who will share all its fascinating stories.
The tour is approximately 2hrs in duration, however actual walking time is approximately 60 mins. There are regular opportunities to rest. Toilet breaks available mid tour. Total distance approximately 2km.

I would definitely recommend this tour at the start of your visit to Fremantle.
On top of that, she was so sweet and approachable, making us feel truly welcome throughout the tour. It felt less like a “tour” and more like being shown around by a local friend who genuinely loves her city.
We would highly recommend Joni to anyone wanting to discover the historical side of Perth in an enjoyable and memorable way. Thank you for making our day so special, Joni!
The scavenger hunt was challenging with lots of variety
It was a very wet day, but Winona, managed the tour without the group having to stand in the rain.
I would recommend this tour.
Highly recommend going on one of the tours. A great gift idea for other, or even yourself 😏
We went as a family of 5 & the tour had something for everyone. Really enjoyed ‘looking up’ & noticing the glorious buildings id never noticed before.
Brian and I had a lovely time on the laneway walk with Winona. She provided us with some great information, and as someone new to Perth, I found it very interesting. She also told us about some interesting restaurants and cafes and we returned to one on the following day. Yum! I loved the little stories that accompanied each of our stops including historical information and an inside on the art world through the laneways. It was a thoroughly worthwhile afternoon, and i highly recommend it if you want to learn more about Perth's interesting history.

Tour Guide: Winona
This two-hour tour is a super introduction to Fremantle. Our guide took extra care and time to introduce our 5-person group to various sights around the city. From the interesting building murals, history, culture, and backstories, Winona brought Fremantile alive. Her story about O'Connor and the location drama was gripping. Capping off our time was a visit to the 'I Love Freo" sign. Highly recommend this tour. Thank you!

Met Joni our guide who was the most knowledgeable, lovely lady. Walked through Freo, took lots of photos and learned lots of interesting history. We are Perth locals and would highly recommend for locals and visitors alike.
Thank you Iris. My mum wants to go now.
Booked the Coffee, Culture an Art tour a few days later and another very enjoyable experience. Our guide (Gerrard) was so knowledgeable and had many entertaining stories to tell about Perth. Highly recommend Two Feet & a Heartbeat for anyone visiting Perth!
Our guide (Vaughan) was knowledgeable, funny and passionate, making the history and stories behind these sites come alive.
