Hi Colin. Thank you for your wonderful review. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed the tour, and that Martin's guiding helped make the experience so memorable. Sometimes a little flexibility with the weather can lead to unexpected rewards, and we're glad the alternative birding proved so successful. Thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed review. We’re delighted to hear how much you enjoyed the Lake Mungo journey with Amanda, Angus and Lance, and that the experience was both educational and enjoyable. Seeing 95 bird species is certainly remarkable! Lake Mungo is an incredibly important and moving place, and we’re so pleased the tour helped bring its history, culture and significance to life. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you on another adventure soon.

It was just fantastic and exceeded my expectations as a novice birder. I added 52 birds to my list - but most importantly we saw 2 critically endangered species. That is the benefit of birding with knowledgeable guides - they know their stuff and know where to go. Every aspect of the tour was well organised and professional. Loved it so much - looking for another bird tour run by Australian Geographic now!

Information provided on geology, landscape, birds, vegetation, current 'industry'& history, as provided by long-term resident, Ian, & our AGT guides, was excellent and is essential for me. This was enhanced by learning of the thorough management of the island by residents & NSW government to rid the island of feral animals & weeds. Such management & preservation of nature provides an example of how this is possible. This, the friendliness of people on the island, and mobility being primarly by bicycle or walking makes for a peaceful background and change from our normal lives.
Our tour leaders are delightful - friendly, informative & capable, and our group, as happens on such tours, were pleasant company.
The sites we visited were various - swimming, snorkeling amongst coral, fish & a turtle; bird-watching; boating; many hikes to beach, forest & cliff-tops with expansive views; museum, craft brewery, nursery, etc
The cabins were comfortable (not that we were in them much) although the 'Transit Room' bathroom for use after checking out could be improved.
Food quality in restaurants is good with lots of fresh fish.
If I were to change anything, I would have more snorkeling. Nevertheless, the itinerary is flexible, so on the last day I replaced a bike ride/hike with snorkeling.
Everything was included in the package price, except air travel, which is not cheap.
Thank you Australian Geographic Travel.

Hi Percibeale
Thank you for sharing such thoughtful feedback. We’re delighted you enjoyed the unique beauty of Lord Howe Island and appreciated the in-depth insights from Ian and our guides. It’s wonderful to hear the island’s conservation efforts, peaceful atmosphere and friendly community made such an impression.
We’re also pleased the activities, cabins and fresh local cuisine added to your experience. We appreciate your suggestion regarding more snorkelling and the Transit Room facilities, and will certainly take this on board.
We hope to welcome you again soon.

This has been a refreshing, healing adventure with a balance of my being taken care of (organised with consultation, driven, my bags carried, my meal choices ordered for me at restaurants, being educated and entertained by our guide Grant Palmer and the participants, any tiny hitches smoothed over by Grant, and group decisions made, etc - such a nice change from travelling solo) and being intellectually and physically challenged, taken out of my comfort zone to soak up new information about nature and stretch my body to new limits in walking. My chronic back ache is gone! I'm healthier tho haven't lost weight due to the yummy food. Have chosen delicious fish curries; local fish with loads of veggies and salads, fruit, herbal teas and 2 coffees a day. Our group members agreed that Grant is knowledgeable, competent and has a great personality.
Am planning to go on more tours like this one.

We were very lucky with both the weather and previous rains - making the vegetation lush and probably at its best.
Kym accompanied us at all times - on our land-based tour, in my double kayak, and on our walks off the boat. We travelled to our excursions in a comfortable, smaller tender (motor) boat.
I enoyed the kayak down the Murray and then along a side arm of the river, where we saw a variety of birds and beautiful trees. Kym has a lot of knowledge about plants, birds and animals but also about the local Indigenous culture. We were fortunate to be taken on a very interesting cutural walk with 2 wonderful local rangers, where we learnt about their First Nations history, languages and the cultural significance of trees, plants and animals.
We travelled and slept on a beautiful, clean, small houseboat that was as confortable as any luxury hotel. The indoor open-plan lounge area, upstairs outdoor seating area and spa bath were very spacious. My cabin had it's own large glass sliding door, lovely en suite bathroom and queen size bed, with ample room to walk on both sides of the bed.
I would highly recommend this trip! It was perfect!

Dear Shantilal
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you found your guide knowledgeable and pleasant, but we’re very sorry the tour did not meet your expectations.
To clarify, this tour was designed and managed by Australian Geographic Travel, with delivery by one of our trusted freelance guides, in cooperation with one of our partners, who operate under our policies and procedures. While our birding tours are specialist wildlife-watching experiences, they are not always marketed as photography-specific trips. We apologise if this was unclear at the time of booking, and we will review our wording to ensure future guests understand what to expect.
We also appreciate your comments on birding facilities and viewing opportunities. Our goal is to provide authentic wildlife encounters in the field, but we recognise that comfort and accessibility are important, and we’ll take your suggestions into account as we refine future tours.
Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback — it helps us continue to improve the experiences we offer.

Dear Mr Burrows.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing such detailed feedback. We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed the group, the expertise of Tim and Scott, the smooth organisation, and of course the incredible bird sightings – 150 species is a wonderful achievement!
We truly understand your disappointment about missing the Quinkan rock art. It was originally scheduled, however on the day the heat and the steep, rocky climb made it unsuitable for the group’s comfort and safety. The guides did mention this, however we understand your dissapointment. The decision was not taken lightly, but our guides felt it best given the conditions.
We hope the rest of the journey left you with lasting memories, and we so appreciate your understanding and support.

Amanda, our guide, was great, too. She handled all the practical details of our trip with aplomb and displayed an encyclopedic knowledge of the birds we encountered. I loved the fact that we had a small group of like-minded enthusiasts.
The most surreal experience of the trip was giving a very thirsty wild kangaroo a drink from a hose at the ranger's station. I loved being able to see a 360 degrees view of the horizon and also the spectacular sunsets.

Finding bone and preparing a jacket to protect it, then removing it to transport to the 'lab' wasn't to difficult either! Smaller finds were foil wrapped and taped (duct tape has many uses!!!)
The last two days were at the Eromanga Natural History Museum, a fantastic complex, and well worth the visit o it's own. Getting to explore the jackets from the site was engrossing, removing as much dirt/mud to expose the buried treasure was exciting and brought the whole experience together, knowing how the system works, from finding, excavating, protecting then exposing a fossil, right through to seeing a finished fossil on display (not mine find yet!!).
This expedition ranks up with the Kimberly and West Coast Tasmania expeditions I have been on, as well as the Devi's Ark experience.
Please add a Dinosaur Dig to the listing - Eromanga do that one as well!

The first evening we met our fellow travelers and were introduced to the 2 guides, Martin and Tim, who gave us detailed information for the journey.
Next day we visited Kings Billabong then Hattah Kulkyne National Park, south of Mildura. An enjoyable day exploring those areas with such diverse plants and animals, especially to huge variety of birds. The impact of the recent floods was evident alongside all the waterways. We were amazed and awed by the extensive knowledge of native birds of both the guides.
The following day we visited the Australian Inland Botanic Gardens en route to Mungo National Park, arriving at our accommodation late in the afternoon.
The next 2 days were spent exploring various area in Mungo: checking out the Visitor Centre then, accompanied by a First Nations guide, we climbed the Mungo dunes with the "Walls of China" and later in the day returned to view the lunette at sunset.
On the lake bed we saw lots of kangaroos (2 were boxing!), great variety of birds including pink cockatoos, raptors and emus, and a shingleback lizard.
We also stopped in at the old "Zanci" homestead site and shearing shed and took nature walks in the park.
With good accommodation, comfortable driving in the 2 minibuses, friendly travelling companions and the fantastic guides made it an excellent holiday.

The two staff members were professional and experienced, leading our small group to better understand the Murray River system, its fauna and flora in an amazing safe environment given the high river level.
A visit and walk with an indigenous leader, inspiring and educational.
Kayaking through old and new Red Gum forests was Magical.
Thank you to all concerned, my photographs are a source of wonder!!
