K'gari Half Day Beach + BBQ Cruise
Duration:
Operated By:
The perfect half-day trip to K’gari (Fraser Island). Step on the pristine, white sand beach and bask in the clear turquoise waters – swimming, kayaking, snorkelling, playing and relaxing. Experience the West Coast of K’gari where few have visited and enjoy the day on your own terms.
Enjoy the spectacular pristine water ways between K’gari and the mainland while looking out for dolphins, turtles, dugongs, fish and bird life on the 1 hour cruise out to our destination.
Once anchored at our destination, we take you ashore via our RIB (rigid inflatable boat) where you have 2 hours on the island to participate in whatever activity you like, or simply take the time to relax and enjoy the remote beach.
Embark the boat, rinse off in the fresh water shower and get ready for a delicious Aussie BBQ lunch. We cruise back slowly to the marina, whilst eating lunch and listening to an interesting and engaging commentary about the Island, history, marine life and other fun facts.
Inclusions:
* Expert commentary on marine life and local Aboriginal history
* 2 hours of free time on the beach
* Use of ALL beach equipment: Kayaks, Snorkelling gear, Beach activities (beach cricket, Frisbees, balls, sandcastle building equipment), Rides on inflatable tube.
* Dive skins available (if desired)
* Morning tea – fresh fruit platter and variety of cakes
* Aussie BBQ lunch – Hervey Bay King prawns, fillet steak, sausages, three fresh salads, fresh bread
Cold drinks available for purchase at our fully licensed and affordable bar.
You’re welcome to bring your own equipment as our snorkelling equipment is limited (this is not a designated snorkelling trip). Also, you’re welcome to bring your own fishing equipment on board. Please call the office to let us know at least 48 hours beforehand.
Conditions
Access ashore is via our tender; guests need to be physically fit and have a degree of coordination to access the tender/RIB (rigid inflatable boat) and going ashore. No wheelchair access to the beach – but those in wheelchairs can stay on boat and partake in fishing.
“Shore Based Activities” (activities conducted off the main vessel M.V. Whalesong) require a level of fitness and coordination. Guests with physical or medical impediments may struggle with certain activities. These activities are at the guests own risk.
Going ashore at Fraser Island may be substituted for Pelican Bank; or both destinations may be provided on the one day. This depends on tides and weather conditions. We want guests to have the best experience and both areas can offer great beach and water activity options.

The onboard catering was excellent. Lunch was hearty, healthy, and very satisfying, complemented by a delightful selection of tea, cakes, and fresh fruits. The staff were exceptionally attentive, responsive, and informative, sharing fascinating insights about the whales and the surrounding environment. Their professionalism and warmth added greatly to the overall experience.
This tour exceeded all expectations and comes with my highest recommendation. Anyone seeking a memorable whale-watching adventure should absolutely choose this company—you will be treated to an extraordinary and once-in-a-lifetime encounter with nature at its finest.
We will be back!

Staff were friendly and the food and drinks god and plentiful.

Highly recommend cruise and time slot.
Very good hospitality, great meal for dinner and afternoon tea.

There are many tours available for Fraser, but this one is up there with the best
The staff were very friendly
The cruise across Hervey Bay to Fraser Island was very scenic. We saw plenty of dolphins and a couple of giant turtles.
Lunch was provided after we got back on board, and it was of excellent taste and quality.
A little tip. Avoid going via a travel agent. If you book through Whalesong directly, they will give you $10 on-board credit to use at the bar.
It's a must do experience

We had booked and paid for the first afternoon with Pacific Whale Foundation but they cancelled us the day before so Whalesonf stepped in ..
Both cruises were really good
- on the afternnon cruise we saw around 18 different pods (each 2-3 whales) and
- on the following morning cruise we saw around a dozen but they were very active, breaching and clapping their fins etc
The crew were great and the Captain moved us in as close a possible without getting too close.
The fee includes food - luch on the morning cruise or supper on the afternoon cruise - and it was a big plate of food!
The boat is purpose built for whale watching so there are multiple decks / spaces to move around on to get the best possible views.
also as a catermeran it is pretty stable - the usual front to back roll but limited side to side - which is good if anyone suffers from sea sickness
Overall a very good two trips
Best time per captain is from July to late Sept but we went first week of Oct and we saw loads of whales!!

The staff were amazing, the boat is the perfect size and we got to see heaps of whales. We got to see natural behaviours of mums teaching their babies how to survive once they go South. The commentary was great and the microphone to hear the whale sounds was fascinating. Thanks for spoiling us with morning tea and lunch!
So we'll organised, don't change a thing!
We were picked up at our motel at the exact time we were told.
We were greeted by very friendly staff, the boat was clean & comfortable. The drinks were at a good price, afternoon tea was nice. The whales were so amazing to watch, they really put on a show for us, the captain was very knowledgeable. I was a bit cold when the boat was moving, one of the staff members offered me a blanket, how cool was that? Just incredible service. It’s a day we will never ever forget. Dinner was served on our way back in & it was delicious.
Thank you so much whalesong tours you made our day.
One of the best whale watching tours ever. Fantastic vantage points from all over the boat. Morning tea and lunch were lovely and the bar service was excellent.
The fact that you had not only a toilet, but a disabled toilet, blew my grandmother’s mind and is really appreciated.
The captain and tour guide were very knowledgeable and gave a lot of interesting facts during the tour.
Will definitely book again next time I’m up in QLD!

The day was so much fun especially the tube ride!!

We had a good time all in all. The staff were friendly and the cruise was fairly smooth. 3 of us did the dingy ride which was good fun. There were a few rain downpours but we managed to shelter and it didn't spoil the day.
Lunch back on the boat was a bit disorganised and it set off before many of us had finished eating and how windy it was made it quite impossible to enjoy it fully.

The local Hump Backed Dolphins seen on the way home was a bonus????

Can’t wait to do the whale watching tour next.
The staff were friendly and most helpful, from the lovely girl who took our booking to the crew on board the vessel. The boat was spotless with plenty of room to move around, the captain's commentary was very informative about the whales, and food was freshly prepared, yummy and plentiful.
We did the morning cruise and now plan to return to do the afternoon/sunset dinner cruise at some time.
All in all, a memory to last a life a lifetime.

He stopped for a while to give this bonus sighting too.
Loved his sincerity & passion for his job.
The ground staff at the WhaleSong Office as well as those on board, were very friendly and caring.
I would have loved to go again if time had permitted. Thank you WS team.

This is a must on your Bucket List

We were worried about cruising with many people, we did our research and saw the boat size and capacity limit for Whalesong. When we were onboard the captain and staff experience around managing people was very kind and calm. Whales were visible from both sides of the boat and boarding was easy. This means we didn't miss out, we had a calm and happy time and could just enjoy the experience.
Highly recommend.

On the other hand, the captain seemed he knew where to go, not like that other company we saw heading away from breaching whales on more than one occassion, and the crew was plesant. Still, given the missing commentary, I would probably choose another boat next time.

There was 7 of us altogether ranging from age 5 up to 80 and each one of us had the best day. The boat was lovely, comfortable and we loved that it was bit too big, which meant a small group and no fighting for “perks” at the whales. The staff were friendly from the moment we boarded until we disembarked.
We were so fortunate in that we saw a lot of whales displaying a lot of different behaviours, which made it extra special. Although it’s a big “luck of the draw” I have never seen this much activity and this many whales on any previous experiences. However, what really added to the experience was the expert commentary and knowledge that we where given during the course of the day. We all learnt so much and I have to say, female jump back whales are the bomb! These ladies do it tough and do it well.
And to top off all the above it was also FANTASTIC value for money. We got hot drinks, morning tea, lunch and spent 5 hours on the water. Best value whale watch experience I have ever had. Food was simple but delicious too.
Would definitely highly recommend Whale Song Whale Watch Experience and would definitely venture out with them again.

I guess morning trips and a bright sunny day is very important to see whales playing.
The best view is completely based on the season, timing, the captain of the tour and your luck.....

What else do you want ?
