It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a tour company of this level.
It all starts with the hotel pickup — a company representative arrives right on time, friendly, pleasant, and sets the tone for the day with a very positive attitude.

Upon arrival at the departure point along the southern promenade, the staff welcome you warmly. After a short briefing, the cruise sets off exactly on schedule. There’s an explanation about the voyage, safety instructions, what to expect during the day, and all of it is delivered with a great sense of humor and good vibes.

During the cruise, they serve hot drinks and a sweet snack.
The first leg takes about an hour and a half. The sea wasn’t calm, so the ride included quite a few jumps and splashes of water.

Upon reaching the first destination, there’s a roughly 30-minute walk to the first viewpoint. There are several lookout points along a wooden deck, moving from one to another.

To be honest, the site looks a bit different from the spectacular photos circulating online — it’s beautiful, but not quite as stunning as it appears in the published pictures. You can see in the photos I’ve attached that it’s still lovely, just less dramatic.

Afterwards comes another short cruise, about an hour or so, to the second stop, where the crew prepares an impressive lunch. I can personally say that even as a vegan, they took care of me with a delicious, satisfying meal — served on real plates with proper cutlery, in the middle of nowhere, complete with extras for anyone who wanted more.
The crew truly go above and beyond to create a memorable lunch experience.

At this point, there are three activity options:

A guided walk through the dense bush forest.

Full-body swimsuits for those who want to swim — due to the marine wildlife in the waters, everyone receives a suit in their size, including children.

Simply relaxing on the beach.

The stay lasts about three hours. Then everything is packed up, and the group sails back to the departure point. Travelers who booked return transfers are taken back to their hotels.

In conclusion, a wonderful team that ends the day with ukulele music and warm smiles — an experience in a place that may look different from the pictures, but leaves an impression no less special.

Perfect day 🌞 If you want to take it easy and prefer to travel in a small group, then this is the place for you. The crew is awesome, it's a family-run business, and everything is very personal, so you don't feel like you're on a typical “tourist trip.” The entire tour lasts 8 hours and includes two stops and a barbecue with delicious meat, freshly caught fish, and fruit at Whitehaven Beach (3 hours in total). There are free snacks and very inexpensive cold drinks on the boat. We highly recommend it—it's just great. Thanks to the team for a wonderful day. 🥰

Family away from family, and oh yeah, Whitehaven in all its glory! A massive shout out to Captain Dan, Kai, Sam (and Gill on comms) for the experience. This was listed as a family business and it absolutely showed in their sense of hospitality and attitude. The day was full of adventure (choppy waters, rain and hikes), combined with a nice BBQ lunch, friendly banter, and a relaxed, family atmosphere. The staff was extremely attentive, accommodating, hospitable and informative. The hikes to Whitehaven's south lookout and Hill Inlet lookout didn't seem challenging due to Kai's ukulele and factoids keeping us company. Despite a relaxed atmosphere, we never felt that safety or timing was compromised. Whitehaven was glorious even on a rainy and muggy day (you could take as many photos as you wish, but seeing it in person is a sight to behold). The only thing I felt that could be added as an option for future trips would be snorkeling and seeing corals at Whitsunday Island reef (as other tours have this option). However, stinger suits and getting into the water at Whitehaven beach was a fantastic experience. We would highly recommend going with Whitehaven Xpress!

Great trip to Whitehaven Beach We had a great day on our full day tour to Whitehaven beach and hills inlet with bbq lunch. The weather wasn’t its best but for this time of the year it is expected to be like it was. The staff were 10/10 and made our day perfect, we weren’t rushed and they explained everything clearly. Special note to the ukulele playing and BBQ lunch was cooked to how you liked your meat with fresh salad and fruit. It was great going to the two different parts of the island and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone

Excellent day trip A brilliant experience from start to finish, picked up on time from our hotel and taken to the marina where we were greeted by the crew, the day was very well organised and every detail explained to us along the way pointing out places of interest etc. The beach barbeque was delicious and Captain Dan caught a fish on the way which was cooked to perfection. The walks to the lookouts were manageable (I’m 72) but no problem at all for the younger ones and well worth the effort for the fantastic views. I first did this trip 10 years ago and I’m pleased to say it was as brilliant this time as it was then, a big thank you to all the crew and staff

We had a really great day on the Whitehaven Xpress boat tour! The boat ride itself was smooth and comfortable, and we were provided with snacks along the way, which was a nice touch.

The crew—Captain Dan, Kai, and Sam—were all friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They made the day super relaxed and enjoyable. One of the best parts was the BBQ on Whitehaven Beach, where we had steak, sausages, burgers, fresh fruit, veggies, and rice. It was great to have such a good meal on the beach, and it's worth noting that they’re the only company with a permit to BBQ there.

The walks to both the Whitehaven Lookout and Hill Inlet Lookout were also great. The crew shared some interesting info about the area, and there was live ukelele music which added a nice touch to the atmosphere.

Overall, it was a really solid experience, and I’d absolutely recommend this day trip to anyone looking for a day out in the Whitsundays!

A day trip to rmember I went with my son who had booked this as a surprise for me. It was the most brilliant day. The views from the lookout points were amazing. The beach BBQ excellent.

Whitehaven Xpress: The Relaxed, Family-Run Tour That Leaves Viper in Its Wake! I intentionally waited until after completing the Viper day tour the following day to write this review, just to have a fair comparison and some perspective. And honestly, the Whitehaven Xpress knocks spots off the Viper - and here’s why.

First and foremost, the Xpress is a true family business, and it really shows. They care. Captain Dan has owned the boat since he was 17 and knows it like the back of his hand. His son, Sam, and their deckhand-turned-ukulele-player, Kai, are absolute assets: enthusiastic, hardworking, fun, cheerful, and full of genuine stories. They work tirelessly to create a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. Kai, with his ukulele and little songs sprinkled throughout the day, added a charming touch that set the tone beautifully.

Another huge point of difference is the relaxed nature of the entire trip. You’re trusted to use your common sense, and it makes for a far more enjoyable experience. You’re free to move about the boat (holding the rails when necessary), nip to the toilet whenever you need, climb the ladder to the upper deck even while the boat is moving, or jump off for a swim if you fancy it. There’s a simple honesty system for drinks and snacks - help yourself to water, soft drinks, alcohol, chocolate, crisps throughout the day and just pay at the end. Personally, I feel bottled water should really be included in the price, but you’re absolutely welcome to bring your own onboard.

This relaxed approach stands in stark contrast to the Viper, where you can’t do anything unless you’re explicitly told to - and heaven forbid you bring sand onto the boat. We even saw one poor lady hosed down and ridiculed for it yesterday, which really highlighted the difference in atmosphere between the two experiences.

Despite being one of the older vessels in the region, the Xpress is far more exhilarating than the so-called fastest boat - genuinely great fun, with a proper sense of adventure.

The timings at both the lookout and Whitehaven Beach were spot on, and the BBQ lunch was excellent: steak, burgers, sausages, salads, and fresh fruit, all served with a cool, laid-back vibe. We were also offered morning tea with biscuits, and cheese and biscuits on the return trip. Some gluten free beers on board would be have a great bonus.

We had a brilliant day and would highly recommend this tour. It felt like great value for money as well.

My only piece of constructive feedback is regarding dietary needs. My husband is gluten-free, and although this was clearly flagged in the online booking, it unfortunately went unnoticed. There were no gluten-free biscuits in the morning, no GF bread at lunch, and no GF crackers with the cheese on the return trip. It was a real shame and something that could easily be improved so guests with dietary requirements don’t feel excluded.

Overall, though, this was a fantastic experience - warm, personal, relaxed, and memorable. We’d absolutely recommend it. Thank you.

A day to remember with the nicest crew! What an experience! The nicest competent crew who went out of their way to make you feel safe and gave so much local knowledge on the area & the reef. What a lovely family run boat. The bbq at the beach was also 10/10 with lots of offer. If you’re in the area highly recommend this trip!

I am so happy we did this with this group. Boat was well setup and comfortable for ride out. Crew was amazing! Super helpful and friendly and telling you all about the area and what was going to be happening. Even got some fascinating Bush lore on a hike up to lookout. Whitehaven Beach is spectacular. Incredible water and the beauty of the swirls of different shades of blue is remarkable. Such a great day!

Excellent tour with sensational views and scenery! Whitehaven Xpress really know how to look after you! Firstly, Whitehaven Xpress offered free pick up from our location, which was helpful saving time and hassle of arranging to get to the meet point.
From the start the driver was chatty and friendly and quickly dropped us to our meeting point. After that, Sam, Kai & Dan really looked after us, taking us to the best beaches and views of Whitehaven beach and tongue bay. The BBQ was top quality, lots of food on offer, like steak, sausages, chilli burgers and even had lots of fresh fruit, salad and rice. There was also plenty of drinks on board to choose from!
Overall we couldn’t fault the trip, both me and my gf had the best day! I would highly recommend going with these guys, what’s even nicer is they are a family run business which you really got a sense for!

We went on 2 walking trails to see the stunning views of the swirling sands and the beaches, had a delicious Aussie bbq with Stumpy the local lizard and swam in the champagne bay! Our walks were accompanied by Sam and Bella playing tunes on the ukelele too 🎶

We got tea, coffee and biscuits in the way there and cheese and crackers on the way back which was a nice touch!

The boat was comfortable and from the moment we were picked up from our resort, we were well looked after. The unique way they showed us where are how we getting there, was sensational. When comparing day trips versus other companies, the family owned and operated Whitehaven Xpress had the longest time spent at Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet, and all still for a similar price. Sam, Kai, and Captain Dan (defo their real names) are great fun, and they make a mean beach BBQ and afternoon tea and bikkies. This was our favorite day tour of our holiday!

We had a awesome trip with Captain Dan and his son Sam! Our trip to Tongue point overlooking the magical Hill Inlet and Whitehaven was super memorable. The weather was perfect, the boat trip smooth, and everything ran like a well-oiled machine.

We had a great day on the Whitehaven Express tour. I chose them specifically because of the amount of time you get to spend on the beach rather than racing away to snorkel because my wife has no interest in snorkeling, and my kiddo can't swim well enough to give it a crack. There was stacks of food on the BBQ so you won't go hungry, and there is more than enough time to make the most of Whitehaven. My son had a blast chasing the fish in the shallows, and stalking the goannas as they tried to get a snack from everyone at lunch time. We also saw a non venomous snake.
The crew were great, really friendly and happy to have a chat and a bit of fun, even trying to get a sing along happening with limited success.
The only disappointment was that we spent too much time up at the Hills inlet look out taking in the amazing view so we didn't get time to go down on the inlet beach, another 15 minutes there would have been great but there's only so much time!

Not too much to see while snorkelling at the top of Whitehaven beach but having just been up to Cairns it didn't matter so much. Would highly recommend this tour! Sensational trip! Spectacular day! Breathtaking scenery in stunning locations. The food was great and the crew - Sam, Matty and Dan - were fantastic. Well worth the choppy ride out! Would 100% recommend this tour and would do it again!

An absolutely incredible day out. Captain Dan has been running these tours for many years...and it shows. The whole day ran like clockwork. We were always updated throughout the day with what was happening, but it never felt rushed.

Lots to learn about the area from the very knowledgeable Captain Dan and deckhands Sam and Wayne. But if you just want to enjoy the beach then that is fine too. Sam and Wayne engage with all passengers and are eager to help in any way they can. Nothing is too much trouble.

The beach BBQ is outstanding. So much food - great quality and cooked to perfection. The steaks were delicious and the fruit salad very refreshing. Special thanks to Dan for cooking the sausage exactly how we asked for it 😜

We will definitely repeat this tour when we are next in Airlie Beach and would highly recommend Whitehaven Xpress to anyone

Unforgettable day in the Whitsundays aboard the Whitehaven Xpress, a very comfortable ship with a great crew. The company is family run and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Refreshments are served all day and the lunchtime barbecue on the island is exceptional. Beautiful snorkeling spot south of the beach, swimming and walking to the lookouts organized by the crew. True Australia Tour We had a truly Australia experience on our Whitehaven Xpress day trip to Whitehaven Beach. Captain Dan is a local who has been piloting this excursion for over 35 years. This family owned business provided a safe, fun filled day that included a home style BBQ on the beach. His shipmate, Jessica, made us home cooked vegan meals so we could also participate in the picnic activity. The crew’s friendly attention to personal needs was a special effort not available on larger tour boats. A great sense of real Aussie life and hospitality!! Thanks mate!!

Memorable trip with the family... The trip was perfect with right size of people and great beach BBQ. This is one of the few tour which is kids (infants) friendly.

We had great time with comfortable boat ride, nice food (also including vegetarian), great views, sufficient time at the lookouts & at the Whithaven beach. I will surely recommend this family operated tour.

Amazing- highly recommend Amazing day! Would not hesitate to recommend. Everyone so friendly and Jess went above and beyond especially welcoming the children, even holding the baby whilst I ate my lunch, took toddler to the top deck and shells which he loved playing with. If any doubt book this. Great lunch including home made veggie burgers which were delicious. Hard to get a good veggie lunch but this was very tasty and plenty of it. Meat section very good and again good quantities.

My family came to Whitsunday Beach via the Whitsunday Cruise. We were enjoying our time on the beach when we suddenly were disrupted by the Whitsunday Xpress staff. There were 3 staff, 2 young looking males and an older male. We did not use their service nor engage with them but while they were making their BBQ the older male decided to look at my family and make ignorant racist remarks with a blatant expression. It was extremely childish and very disappointing that a fellow Australian is being racist at this day and age. Moreover, he made these remarks in the presence of his younger staff which will further perpetuate this disgusting behaviour.

I have read other reviews of Whitsunday Xpress on their racism. It is astounding that the staff have not been warned or made redundant from the amount of complaints. It speaks volumes of the company and the immature people running it.

To the man that made racist remarks to my family, and the two boys that laughed along, and the rest of your staff that make racists remarks. We don’t find this stupidity funny. We don’t tease your language. I’m Australian for christ’s sake. People of all races contribute to Australia’s economy, our efforts and differences will not be diminished by your immaturity.

Let’s hope you’re not proud of the immensely ignorant behaviour you’ve been persisting all these years.

Excellent day out at the islands. A energetic young deck crew with captain Dan at the helm we had a great day. Excellent day out. Highly recommend for families with teen kids. Our family of five had a great day, a little rough in the morning but felt safe the entire time. A great boat with plenty of get up and go but without the massive crowds. A great small group charter run by a friendly family business. BBQ Lunch was great on the beach, with plenty to eat for hungry teenagers.
