The Melbourne hidden bar culture is a unique part of Australia’s cultural capital. The difficult thing is just that – they’re hidden! This city makes you work to find its best bits, which is why you’ll find some of the best bars behind other venues, underneath laneways, or tucked into repurposed spaces.
Join your experienced guide and uncover four of these fascinating venues in one afternoon, and learn what makes each one special over a drink (or four!). Speak with talented bartenders during this small-group experience, making sure to chat with them about what kinds of drinks you like to personalise your Melbourne Hidden Bars Tour even more.
Drinks packages
Avoid having to open your wallet on tour by purchasing your drinks in advance. The drinks package entitles the guest to 4 drinks total (cocktails, beer, wine, and house spirits) one at each of our four venues.
Basic Ticket — No drinks included, you purchase at full menu prices at the bar
Premium Drinks Package — 4 x premium cocktails/ beer/wine/spirits
Note — Our guides are only authorised to purchase one drink per person per venue for drinks package. If you’re late or leave early, you won’t be eligible for a refund for unconsumed drinks.

Ian’s Melbourne walking tour was a fantastic experience and an excellent introduction to the city. He managed to show us so much in just a few hours while providing an engaging overview of Melbourne’s history, culture, and character.
As a Melbourne native, Ian offered insights and perspectives that we would never have gained from a guidebook. He pointed out interesting details, shared local stories, and helped us better understand the city and its people.
I especially appreciated that he tailored recommendations to my interests, suggesting places to visit and restaurants to try during the rest of my stay.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Melbourne and wanting an informative, enjoyable, and authentic introduction to the city. Ian’s knowledge, enthusiasm, and local perspective made it a memorable experience. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The tour strikes a good balance between historical context and contemporary culture. Our guide was knowledgeable and engaging, explaining how Melbourne developed during the gold rush while also highlighting the city’s distinctive laneway culture, street art scene, and café traditions. Visiting some of the smaller laneways and historic arcades was particularly worthwhile, as these are places that are easy to miss if you are exploring the city on your own.
The pace of the tour was comfortable and the walking distance manageable. The guide also shared useful recommendations for cafés, restaurants, and places to revisit later, which was a practical bonus.
Overall, this tour provides a thoughtful overview of Melbourne’s history and urban culture in just a few hours. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the city for the first time or wanting a deeper understanding of Melbourne beyond the main streets.
Enjoyed his stories and knowledge of the city. Thanks for the recommendations as well.
Hugo made it very entertaining, with lots of little story, presented with a great deal of humor.
We can only recommend Hugo's tour as a high light of a visit to Melbourne
The tour was a mixture of culture and colour through the funky streetart laneways and sophisticated arcades with a Melbourne coffee added to keep us on our toes.
Thanks Beau you are a credit to the Company
The cocktails were fancy, the whiskey was smooth, and the memories are... well, let's just say we're still piecing together the night. Can't wait to do it all again (or at least, try to remember it). Cheers to the best pub tour ever! 🍸🥃😂"
Highly recommend it to anyone looking for an engaging and memorable adventure! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I joined the Melbourne City Walking Tour guided by Ian, and it was truly an unforgettable experience!
I’m from Beijing, China, and the other four visitors in my group were from the US and Canada. Even though I’m not a native English speaker, Ian made sure I was always part of the conversation. He patiently explained everything, checked that I understood, and made me feel completely included.
Listening to Ian was like attending a fun and inspiring Australian history class. His passion and knowledge brought Melbourne’s landmarks — from The Hotel Windsor and Parliament House to Flinders Street Station and Chinatown — vividly to life.
It was also my first time appreciating Melbourne’s laneway art, and I was amazed to learn that the famous Banksy had left his work here too! Ian even introduced us to Melbourne’s coffee culture and treated us to a “magical coffee,” which was such a delightful touch.
Overall, this was an amazing and memorable tour. Ian is knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely cares about his guests. Highly recommended!
Knowledgeable and fun
Would strongly recommend
