Operated By:
Come and explore the beautiful Sunshine Coast local reefs. Be guided all the way by a dive professional. We only take small groups so you will be in safe hands. Here on holidays? We can make a trip tailored to suit your interests, wether it is Scuba Diving beautiful reefs or exploring ship wrecks, we will make it an experience to remember. Diving on the Sunshine Coast is quite simply too easy. Not only do the coral reefs rival the marine diversity of the Great Barrier Reef, you’ll only need to spend 20 minutes on a boat getting out to the action. This is why the Sunshine Coast attracts local, state, interstate and international divers. Combine the sheer diversity of life, richness of the waters, vivid colours and lack of coral bleaching and the Sunshine Coast becomes a veritable diving haven. Sunshine Coast has beautiful local reefs just off shore ready to be explored. These include:
Jew Shoal
Jew Shoal is located in Noosa’s pristine Laguna Bay and is reachable by boat in just 20 minutes. The site itself is a large complex of canyons, ridges and bommies, with two main features. Expect to see reef fish including angelfish, butterflyfish, surgeonfish, globefish, rabbitfish, soapfish, morwong, sweetlip and bream – as you meander through the caves. The caves consist of several large swim throughs which are a buzz with marine life. Its gutters are covered in colourful hard and soft corals. And secondly, the pin starts at seven metres depth dropping down to 16m as you descend. There are plenty of ledges, walls, and crevices to explore. Seasonal mantas and grey nurse sharks even turn up from time to time. The coral gardens here are home to an array of marine invertebrates – sea stars, feather stars, hermit crabs, urchins, cowries and over 100 varieties of nudibranchs. Both main sites feature fantastic coral layouts to go and explore for divers of all skill levels.
Old Woman Island
The colourful coral gardens of Mudjimba (Old Woman) Island are reached in less than 20 minutes by boat from Mooloolaba. This popular shallow water dive site has a dazzling array of marine life including lots of soft corals, sea sponges, sea anemones and a variety of tropical fish. It’s a safe, easy dive that is great for beginners in its sheltered shallow waters. This site is also great for snorkelling.
Inner Gneerings
Just offshore from Mooloolaba in the warm coastal waters of the Coral Sea lies the Inner Gneerings reef system. This comprehensive coral network includes numerous diverse and amazing dive spots, including Hanging Rock, the Pinnacles, Wobby Rock, the aptly named Fairyland and many, many more. The reef of the Inner Gneerings is adorned with many beautifully coloured soft corals, black coral trees and white coral whips. The area is a divers dream with a variety of marine life including rays, loggerhead and green turtles, moray eels, wobbegongs and leopard sharks – not to mention dramatic crops and coral shelves. Watch out for the sapphire damsels and fairy basslets darting in and out of cover. This site is suitable for beginners, open water and advanced divers.
Outer Gneerings
Sunshine Coast, Queensland is home to the Outer Gneering Shoals diving site. This site is, on average around 18 metres deep but does drop down to 25 at its maximum. Visibility is usually a good, clear 15 metres which makes the site feel quite open as you are able to see a lot further than in many other diving areas. Outer Gneering Shoals is an open water site that takes approximately 30 minutes by boat to get to.
Anyone with an interest or passion for coral should dive at the Outer Gneering Shoals. Among the rock and boulder formations the coral just spreads out like a vast quilt and amongst it lies the diversity of sea life that coral attracts. In the winter months around the pinnacle you will find larger pelagic fish moving around, but smaller species such as wobbygongs, leatherjackets, baitfish, angels, wrasse, butterfly and urchins are visible at most times of the year. This site is not suitable for beginners, open water and advanced divers will appreciate these dive sites
Magic Mountain
Magic Mountain, a dive site on the Outer Gneerings Reef off Mooloolaba’s coast, is a dive for more experienced divers due to its depth and the complex structures formed by rocky outcrops. The large group of outcrops extend from the sandy ocean floor to form numerous gullies, ravines, bommies, swim-throughs and pinnacles, all housing soft and hard coral colonies. Fish calling Magic Mountain home include morwong, wrasse, leatherjackets, batfish, bullseyes, butterfly and angelfish. Numerous urchins, nudibranchs, anemones, feather and brittle stars, crabs, crayfish, wobbegongs and the occasional groper are also found on this rugged structure.

They looked after me the whole time.
I'm not fabulous on Cold Water Dives anymore as I'm small and over 50.
But they were all great.
Still haven't seen the Elusive Grey Nurse Sharks but there's always next year.
Last dive saw lots.
Josh my Dive Instructor was amazing.
Michelle is so helpful and welcoming.
Well done team.

The only thing that would have made it five stars would be a better snorkel mask. I don’t know why, but it seems like every snorkeling trip I’ve been on, about one and three people have a mask that just leaks water all the time. We switched one mask between people and it leaked on everyone. It was a small leak and I could handle it. Still a great experience. I would go with them again.
Saw turtles and an eel and giant lobster
Thanks to Steve and great dive instructors.
Our day & dive location was changed for safety & we got the best experience ever!
We had our own instructor Josh & rescue assistant Kiara. I had 2 panic moments, but Josh (the GOAT) was so kind & kept me calm. If not for him I wouldn't missed out on one of the most incredible experiences of my life!
My daughters (14 &12) haven't stopped raving about how truly incredible it was.
One of the best days of my life!
Thank you for working with nature & with us so we could have an unforgettable experience.
On a side note I feel as though Mel was professional, patient, and sweet. I hope he doesn’t yell at her like he yelled at me on the phone.
(all other dives cancelled due to adverse weather conditions).
The 2 dives that did occur were great and our French dive guide was brilliant.
I have been unable to contact the owner Steve, and have had no response regarding a refund for the 8 dives that did not happen (despite numerous texts, emails, FB posts etc)
Steve has completely ghosted me and still owes over $1000.
I will be taking this to the small claims court.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Just a warning for anyone looking in to this.
Extremely disappointing.
The cancellation policy page on their website is (I suspect intentionally) blank.

We got to snorkel with turtles and saw so many beautiful fish. Personally I am quite afraid of boats and the ocean but he made us all feel safe and comfortable. Comfortable enough for me to decide to jump in and actually snorkel at the end of the day! The kids decided last minute that they would like to scuba dive and the crew was prepared. I didn't think a 13 and 14year old could just up and learn to dive but they were truly professional about it and bang the kids were doing it!!!! How can you recommend a service and experience highly enough, when its a once in a lifetime experience ?? 10/10!!!
I paid $248 for two dives that never happened. I booked in for Tuesday then Wednesday then Thursday then Friday then Saturday.
Needless to say none of these dives happened.
Then I noticed a cancellation policy on the email he sent me with the receipt which was there is no refund.
It seems as guys a scammer and you advise stay well away from him. Possibly sometimes it goes out taking dives I don’t know. But if you’re on holiday visiting and you can’t reschedule forever do not give him your money.
Highly recommend due to the experience, the gear, the boat and the pricing.
Ive been on many boat charters and this no stress one is probably the best so far.
Everybody was so easy to get along with and chat, good vibe under water and on the boat.
We saw dolphins and whales where Steve drove us to get closer to them, but still keeping our distance.
Was a great day. Thank you guys :)
I’m really disappointed in Steve. I live 9 hours drive away and phoned a few weeks before a trip to the Sunshine Coast to enquire about diving in my week up there. He encouraged me to book the dives so they didn’t sell out and didn’t mention the reschedule policy should they be cancelled. The rescheduling seems to be mentioned in the fine print once you’ve purchased the dives. I spent approx $450 on two dives which were both cancelled and he advised he would give a refund. 2 months later despite multiple phone calls and emails this hasn’t happened and clearly he has no intention of giving a refund. Steve mentioned there was 12 booked originally but with the weather conditions he didn't want the boat crowded so put some off for the next day! We certainly felt the benefit of that .
Do yourself a favour- book with ANYONE ELSE! 1 4 hr pool tutorial for $700 - NEXT JOKE! Stephen Kerry - you need to get an administration team to support you and your business as your customer service SUCKS!
Thanks guys!
Our family really enjoyed the whole experience.
Thanks guys
Booked with this Company online and was really looking forward to diving. They cancelled on me claiming that the weather was bad. Yet the weather was perfect! I was in any case unable to reschedule as they had asked me to do, due to travel commitments. So I asked for a refund. All I got was a pushy guy on the phone asking me to reschedule and avoid the topic of a refund.
Since returning home I have taken the issue up with my credit card company.
Take the advice from me and all the other commenters here Avoid this company ! !
Rebooked with the company for another 1/2 day diving ,I turned up at Mooloolaba with all my gear , I thought it was strange that no one else had turned up so I rang up Scuba Steve at Subsurface scuba , asked him what the problem was he said that the dive trip had been cancelled and everyone had been contacted Not Me though. The trip was cancelled due to bad weather , I told him I was staying at Mooloolaba for three nights so if the weather improved I was able to dive. This didn’t happen , I was supposed to have a refund , this didn’t happen , so I made a claim against my credit card company who were brilliant . There is a but , he is now trying to claim the money back . Do not trust him do not dive with this company . There are other dive companies in Mooloolaba.Use them instead they are the professional ones
Very professional and patient (my partner had a few confidence issues).
Highly recommend the team at Subsurface Scuba

We were well informed before jumping in that the surface was a bit choppy and were well prepared when we jumped in. At all stages of the dive we were kept informed of the conditions, and we were both checked up on throughout the day (me moreso due to the first dive.)
Steve and Louise were both incredible - they kept me calm and supported me even after I panicked under water on the first dive. I knew that I was in safe hands when Steve brought me back to the surface, and though he didn't force me back in for the second dive, I'm glad I got back in the water. We went down slow and steady, and Steve held my hand through it all to provide a really safe experience for me. Louise was an absolute joy on the boat, and though we didn't dive with her, she was very supportive up top for us and brightened our day.
My partner and I both enjoyed the sights- we saw some beautiful fish, sharks, and even a friendly turtle who swam along side us for a while. Highly recommend for newbies and experienced divers alike.
Our small group decided to brave the water (I myself wanted to get in asap to help with sea sickness) and once in the water we were met with a strong current (on top of the large swell). We were told we would be descending via a fixed line attached to the front of the boat, which to get to we had to traverse using a rope attached to the side of boat. As we held on we were being lifted well out of the water and then plunged underneath, often smashing our tanks into the boat. All this while we were not being told any clear instructions on how to continue. After a few minutes of this hell-on-earth I chose to leave the water.
Once I aborted the dive the others re-entered from the back of the boat via a different rope (which was a better entrance but not ideal as there was no fall-back rope/plan B if the current pulled you from the line. Apparently once you got down past 5m the visibility improved and the current stopped, and the 2 dives were OK. That said, the group concurred that despite doing many dives in many countries (one person had done over 100), no one had experienced an entrance even close to that amount of crazy (ie: no swells or currents near that level let-alone both at once. I was told by the owner that it was a “pretty standard day” for them and that I really should have done a dive refresher first (despite me having no concern with the technical diving, the conditions were simply insane).
