Your Wilsons Promontory Adventure

Meeniyan Country Coffee and Picnic Lunch Stop

We’ll depart Melbourne and travel through the beautiful South Gippsland countryside towards Wilsons Promontory.

Along the way, we’ll stop in the charming country town of Meeniyan, one of our favourite local stops for a proper coffee and something delicious from a local café or bakery.

You’ll have the opportunity to purchase a fresh lunch to take into the national park, where we’ll enjoy a picnic surrounded by some of Victoria’s most spectacular scenery.

Tidal River to Squeaky Beach Coastal Hike

Our coastal adventure takes us from beautiful Tidal River towards the world-famous Squeaky Beach.

This scenic trail winds through coastal bushland, twisted tea trees and rocky granite headlands, offering breathtaking views across Norman Bay, the Southern Ocean and the surrounding mountains.

As we climb over the headland, the coastline opens up to reveal turquoise water, rugged granite formations and stretches of pristine white sand.

It’s one of the most beautiful coastal walks in Wilsons Promontory and a fantastic introduction to the national park.

Squeaky Beach Exploration

Our coastal walk leads us to the famous Squeaky Beach, one of Australia’s most beautiful beaches. 🏖️

Named after the unique squeaking sound made by its incredibly fine, rounded quartz sand, this spectacular beach is surrounded by enormous granite boulders and crystal-clear water.

There’ll be time to wander along the sand, explore the beautiful coastline, relax and capture some incredible photos.

During warmer months, guests may have an opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim if ocean conditions, timing and the guide’s advice allow.

Swimming is optional and never guaranteed. Squeaky Beach is unpatrolled.

Mt Oberon or Mt Bishop Summit Hike

Next, we’ll swap the coastline for the mountains as we embark on one of the day’s biggest highlights — a guided summit hike. 🥾

Depending on weather, track access and conditions, we’ll hike either Mt Oberon or Mt Bishop, two of Wilsons Promontory’s most spectacular mountain viewpoints.

The climb takes us through beautiful native bushland, towering eucalyptus trees and rugged granite landscapes before revealing breathtaking panoramic views over the national park.

From the summit, admire turquoise bays, offshore islands, pristine beaches and endless mountain wilderness.

It’s a challenging but incredibly rewarding hike, with some of the best coastal views in Victoria waiting at the top.

Summit Picnic with Panoramic Views

After the climb, we’ll take a well-earned break and enjoy the lunch we picked up in Meeniyan.

There’s nothing quite like sitting high above the coastline, sharing a relaxed picnic with fellow adventurers and soaking up the incredible scenery.

We’ll allow time to enjoy the views, capture photos and appreciate the beautiful wilderness before making our descent.

If weather conditions are unsuitable for a summit picnic, your guide will choose a more sheltered lunch location.

Wildlife Spotting in the National Park

Before leaving Wilsons Promontory, we’ll spend time searching for some of Australia’s most iconic native animals. 🦘

The Prom is home to a wonderful variety of wildlife, including:

  • Wombats wandering through the grasslands
  • Eastern grey kangaroos grazing in open areas
  • Emus roaming through the national park
  • Wallabies and colourful native birds

Our guides know some excellent wildlife-spotting locations, and travelling in a small group gives us the flexibility to stop and appreciate these special encounters.

It’s the perfect way to finish an unforgettable day of mountain hiking, spectacular beaches and wild Australian landscapes.

Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, as the animals are completely wild.
