Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Darwin to Kakadu National Park
Depart Darwin and travel into the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. Visit the Mamukala Wetlands, where large numbers of magpie geese and other birdlife can often be observed. Continue to Ubirr and Nourlangie Rock to discover ancient Aboriginal rock art and enjoy panoramic views across the Kakadu landscape.
Overnight: Cooinda, Kakadu National Park
Day 2: Kakadu National Park to Katherine
Experience a memorable Yellow Water wildlife cruise through Kakadu’s wetlands. Look for crocodiles, waterbirds and other native wildlife in their natural environment. Continue south along the Kakadu Highway, passing through the historic settlement of Pine Creek before arriving in Katherine.

Day 3: Katherine Gorge to Kununurra
Enjoy a two-hour cruise through the spectacular Katherine Gorge, with towering cliffs, beautiful scenery and opportunities to view Aboriginal rock art. Afterwards, travel west along the Victoria Highway and cross the border from the Northern Territory into Western Australia.
Overnight: Kununurra
Day 4: El Questro and Wyndham
Travel into El Questro Wilderness Park and enjoy a short walk into one of the region’s scenic gorges. Continue to Wyndham and visit the Five Rivers Lookout for expansive views across the Ord, Forrest, King, Durack and Pentecost Rivers.
Depending on seasonal conditions, visit Marglu Billabong in the Parry Lagoons Nature Reserve before stopping at the Grotto, a picturesque natural swimming hole surrounded by steep rock walls.
Overnight: Kununurra
Day 5: Lake Argyle Cruise
Travel to Lake Argyle and visit the historic Durack Homestead Museum. Enjoy views across Australia’s largest artificial lake before boarding a scenic 55-kilometre cruise back towards Kununurra.
Admire the region’s landscapes, flora and wildlife before watching the colours of sunset over the lake.

Day 6: Bungle Bungle Scenic Flight and Cathedral Gorge
Experience one of the highlights of the journey with a scenic flight over Lake Argyle, the Carr Boyd Range and the vast East Kimberley landscape.
After landing near the Bungle Bungle Range, travel by four-wheel drive and on foot through the distinctive sandstone domes to Cathedral Gorge. Enjoy time to appreciate the remarkable formations before returning to Kununurra on another spectacular scenic flight.

Day 7: Kununurra to Fitzroy Crossing
Travel along the Great Northern Highway through the remote Kimberley landscape. Stop in Halls Creek and visit the China Wall, a naturally formed wall of white quartz rising above the surrounding countryside. Continue to Fitzroy Crossing.

Day 8: Fitzroy Crossing to Broome
Explore the spectacular gorge country near Fitzroy Crossing on a scenic boat cruise, with opportunities to spot freshwater crocodiles and see the remains of an ancient coral reef.
Continue towards Derby and visit the historic Prison Boab Tree. Learn about the difficult history associated with this site before travelling onwards to the tropical coastal town of Broome.

Day 9: Broome
Discover Broome’s colourful multicultural and pearling history. Visit Chinatown, Sun Pictures, Gantheaume Point and one of the region’s pearl farms.
Learn about modern pearl cultivation and the dangerous history of the early pearling industry. Later, enjoy free time to relax at famous Cable Beach.

Day 10: Broome to Port Hedland
Travel south along the edge of the Great Sandy Desert towards Port Hedland. Stop at Eighty Mile Beach, a spectacular stretch of white sand and turquoise water renowned for its shells, fishing and remote coastal beauty.

Day 11: Port Hedland to Karijini National Park
Depart Australia’s major iron-ore port and travel across the vast Pilbara region. Along the way, you may see one of the enormous iron-ore trains for which the region is famous.
Continue through the ancient, red-coloured landscape before arriving at your accommodation in the heart of Karijini National Park.

Day 12: Karijini National Park
Spend the day exploring the gorges, waterfalls and natural pools of Western Australia’s second-largest national park.
Walk through iron-rich gorge walls to Fortescue Falls and enjoy the opportunity to swim in the spring-fed waters of Fern Pool. Later, visit Oxer Lookout for an impressive view over the meeting point of four dramatic gorges.
Overnight: Karijini National Park
Day 13: Karijini to Exmouth
Leave the Pilbara’s iron-ore country and travel through the rugged landscape surrounding Tom Price towards the coast.
Arrive in Exmouth, located at the northern end of the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Coast and one of Australia’s most remarkable marine environments.

Day 14: Cape Range National Park and Ningaloo Reef
Enjoy panoramic views across North West Cape and Ningaloo Reef from Vlamingh Head Lighthouse. Take a short walk through Mandu Mandu Gorge and look for black-flanked rock-wallabies.
Later, relax, swim or snorkel in the clear turquoise waters of Turquoise Bay before returning to Exmouth.

Day 15: Exmouth, Coral Bay and Carnarvon
Travel south to Coral Bay and discover the natural wonders of Ningaloo Reef aboard a glass-bottom boat.
See colourful coral formations, sea stars, crustaceans and some of the more than 500 species of fish found within the reef. Continue to Carnarvon in the afternoon.

Day 16: Carnarvon to Monkey Mia
Travel into the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. Visit the ancient stromatolites at Hamelin Pool, walk along the remarkable shoreline of Shell Beach and explore the Shark Bay Interpretive Centre in Denham.
Continue to Monkey Mia, famous for the dolphins that regularly visit the shoreline. In the evening, enjoy an Aboriginal cultural experience featuring Dreamtime stories and the sound of the didgeridoo beneath the Outback night sky.

Day 17: Monkey Mia to Kalbarri
In the morning, enjoy another opportunity to observe the famous Monkey Mia dolphins.
Travel south towards Kalbarri, with seasonal wildflowers adding colour to the landscape at certain times of the year. Visit Kalbarri National Park and admire the dramatic views across the Murchison River Gorge.

Day 18: Kalbarri to Geraldton
Explore the impressive coastal cliffs and rock formations of Kalbarri National Park before continuing south through Port Gregory to Geraldton.
A scenic flight provides spectacular aerial views of the Pelsaert, Easter and Wallabi island groups within the Abrolhos Islands, an area closely connected with the story of the Batavia shipwreck and mutiny.

Day 19: Geraldton, the Pinnacles and Perth
Begin the day with views over Geraldton and Champion Bay from Mount Scott. Visit the HMAS Sydney II Memorial and the architecturally impressive St Francis Xavier Cathedral.
Continue south through coastal towns including Leeman and Jurien Bay before arriving at Nambung National Park. Explore the Pinnacles Desert, where thousands of limestone pillars rise from the golden sand.
The journey then continues through Lancelin to Perth, where your extraordinary Darwin to Perth adventure concludes with a drop-off at your selected Perth hotel.
