Discover the fascinating world of truffle farming at Queensland’s largest truffle farm with our year-round guided tours. This unique experience begins with a short, scenic walk through the paddock, where you’ll learn about the delicate and fascinating process of truffle cultivation. As you stroll through the truffière you’ll be surrounded by the majestic oak trees that provide the perfect environment for these precious fungi to thrive.
Truffle farmers Maple or Ben will guide you through the history of the farm and the steps involved in growing truffles. Gain first-hand knowledge of the intricate methods and conditions required to grow truffles in our unique Queensland climate. As you walk through the paddock, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, whether you’re curious about the soil, the growing process, or the unique partnership between oak trees and truffles.
At the conclusion of the tour, you’ll take a short drive down the road to The Church: Local Wine Project where you can relax and unwind with an entrée grazing platter showcasing a selection of fresh local produce and locally made truffle products while enjoying a curated wine tasting. The main course consists of our signature Truffle & 3-Cheese toastie, with share plates of truffle fries using truffles grown on farm.
The experience is family-friendly, with children under 12 invited to join for free, making it a wonderful day out for the whole family. Dogs are welcome to join you on the farm, though they are not permitted to enter the truffle paddock to ensure the integrity of the growing environment. Guests will also be required to wash their shoes before entering the truffière, so it is advised to wear shoes that you don’t mind getting a little wet.
Tours start at 10:30 AM and last about an hour and a half, offering the ultimate paddock-to-plate experience.
Fresh truffles will be available for purchase during the peak harvest months of July and August subject to availability.
Additional information for truffle lovers:
Arrive to the farm (The Folly) at the end of Bents Road, Ballandean. The Truffle Cottage is up the hill on the right, and that’s where you’ll meet Maple, Ben or even both of them! You’ll see this is the little green cottage next to the house, and there is car parking just before the carport.
We will then proceed to one of the truffle paddocks where we will talk all things truffle. There is some uneven terrain, so it’s advisable to wear comfortable footwear. You will also need to wash your shoes prior to entering the paddock, so wear some that you don’t mind getting a little bit wet. A hat is also a good idea in the event it is sunny. This is where we get up close and personal with our trees and hopefully see some signs of truffles.
After the tour, we’ll take a short drive down the road to The Church: Local Wine Project for a light grazing platter featuring our truffle products and local produce, followed by share plates of truffle fries and one of our signature Truffle & 3-Cheese toasties alongside a self guided or curated wine tasting. If you or your any of your guests are gluten/dairy intolerant or vegetarian, please let me know. All up, you will want to allow around 2 hours (or more!) for this experience.
Capture the magic of your truffle experience and share it with the world. You are absolutely allowed to take photos – in fact, we’d love you to! Feel free to tag us on social media @thefollytruffles or use the hashtag #thefollytruffles so we can see and share your amazing moments!
Definitely give us a call if you have any questions – We look forward to welcoming you to the farm and showing how we grow, hunt and harvest our truffles!
