While a few hours on the water, with a friendly crew and on sunny day always makes for a pleasant morning, the Turtle Discovery Tour was a bit underwhelming.
The crew was nice and answered questions, but there wasn't any guide on board telling us about the local turtles or traditional knowledge. So I'm not sure what the Turtle discovery was about.
Pelican bank would've been the highlight but depite apparent mint conditions, we were told it was unsafe to go... Based on other reviews, it seems this has happened a number of times...
So maybe the way this tour is advertised needs to be reviewed: for me it over-promised and under-delivered.

Highly recommended Awesome afternoon/evening for my friends and I from "The Village". Everyone enjoyed their trip I definitely did!! Great company, great crew, great food, great drinks, great price and fabulous music! I would highly recommend this experience to everyone.

Underwhelming and not as advertised. Felt like a waste of an afternoon. I have to say this trip was incredibly underwhelming and not as advertised.

The glass bottom boat is old, and incredibly slow, makes a trip to the islands you visit longer than the time you are able to spend snorkelling. The ‘glass bottom’ is in a state of disrepair and has rusty water across the top. There was never any reef below us and no mention or attention drawn to the glass bottom at any point during the trip.

There was never any discussion about the process for snorkels and it was not made clear that you would not be provided with fins. Snorkels are ‘sanitised’ in a bucket and put back for use afterwards. If we had of been informed there would be no fins provided we would have hired some elsewhere.

There was a brief discussion about the traditional owners of the land and what name they use for the places we were visiting but not much discussion in terms of the cultural aspect of their people and how they care for the land. It did not meet the description of ‘hearing the legendary tales of the Butchulla people’ as advertised.

I am unsure what about the tour classifies it as being ‘eco’ as it is an old, slow boat that I cannot imagine is very eco friendly.

There was no aquatic life to be seen. The first spot we were taken to was a sand bank that had some pelicans on it but it was just sand, there was no reef on the side of the island we went to so there would be no chance of seeing any interesting marine life. We were given 25 minutes at this first location.

After a disappointing ‘snorkel’, which was really more of a short swim, we went to the secondary location which was another sand bank but with much grittier sand and a few shells here and there, but again, no reef and no marine life. Here we were given 15 minutes to ‘snorkel’ around before returning to the boat and heading back to the marina.

Overall an incredibly disappointing journey for what was advertised, 3 hours on a slow boat for a lousy 45 minute swim on a beach.

The skipper and his assistant were friendly and the food was fine.

I would not recommend this tour as the value for money is not there, it didn’t meet expectations. I would not book again if I had the choice.

We did the eco discovery tour yesterday I was a bit disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend booking this trip on a windy day. We went to 2 islands pelican island was beautiful and my son had a little snorkel. When I booked this trip on experience oz it mentioned lunch also which wasn’t provided that might need to be updated. Fruit muffins and chocolate biscuits are provided with tea and coffee which was lovely. However we didn’t see any marine life and didn’t get to see the reef as the tides was too low so glass bottom couldn’t be used. The tour guide was nice very friendly. Due to not seeing the reef we went to another little island we stopped on a very rocky part of the island which wasn’t great at all my son got cuts on his feet. We were taken back at 2. I was pretty disappointed as we we’re looking very forward to the day but left a little underwhelmed. If the conditions are not that good why not reschedule the tour?

Djinang indigenous walking tour wonderful thanks Aaron, informative, fun and traditional Aaron was an excellent guide, sharing his culture, knowledge and humourous stories. In a small part of the harbour there is so many natural wonders to learn about. Making the smudge sticks was fun, even for me who is a craft klutz lol. Let’s all share the stories of our First Nations people

Little disappointed and I guess confused about why this tour is called the turtle discovery tour. I’m a Hervey Bay local and thought this tour had a turtle focus, we didn’t learn anything about turtles and the tour speaks more about Maryborough township and history than turtles. Bit weird. Traveled out to pelican banks (which is stunning) only to be told we couldn’t get off the boat in the crystal clear water. This would have been so nice to swim here!

Then taken to mud flats of round island which was swampy and dead and nothing to see at all..

Also the tour was overbooked, there wasn’t enough seats for the passengers and we were crammed in.

Absolutely wonderful experience! The hosts are so knowledgeable on the history of the islands, the bay, and surrounds. We were laughing the entire time! We took along two small children aged 3 and 1 and they were kept entertained, and well fed!

Pelican Banks is unbelievably beautiful!

5 stars, we have already told our family and friends about this amazing package and can’t wait to go again ourselves

Not as informative as I would have liked, limited by the weather which can't be helped We had a good day out and sadly the weather wasn't great so we were limited, but visited a couple of beaches and saw a turtle in the distance. The staff were friendly but it wasn't what I was expecting as far as native history and knowledge and nothing to be seen through the glass bottom boat as it was all too murky

Most enjoyable and relaxing. I have visited K'gari several times but had no idea the Great Sandy Straits offered so much more. A great tour with good lunch and very interesting islands to visit with great swimming as well. Loved it!

A great tour with excellent guides! We had such a wonderful day on this tour. Our tour guide Jo and the skipper were both excellent. Jo was very friendly and had wonderful stories to tell including the traditional story of how K’gari came to exist and where the traditional name came from. He also gave us a demonstration on how to play the didgeridoo which was fantastic! The boat ride was beautiful and we spent about an hour on Pelican Island snorkelling. We managed to see a few dolphins and a couple of turtles too which was lovely. There was only about 15 of us on the boat which was very comfortable and we had plenty of space to move around. I would definitely recommend this your ????

A truly remarkable experience both visually and culturally. From the breathtaking vista of Pelican Bank to very entertaining and informative commentary from local Butchulla man Joe. Turtles, Rays, Dugong and Dolphins were all present! I can’t recommend this tour enough. We had a mix of all ages on the tour I was on. Very importantly the access for those of us ‘not so young’ anymore was great. Many thanks to Jacqui in the tour office for talking me into going, I’m forever in your debt. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR…….

Wonderful day out. We were so lucky to see turtles, dolphins and even a mother and calf whale popped up next to the boat. The staff were very knowledgeable and engaging. Would highly recommend to anyone (we traveled with a family group aged 2 - 70+).

Marine life not guaranteed but a great cultural tour. Despite all odds the Captain and cultural guide Travis made it a memorable experience. The weather was rough so we couldn’t stop on one of the islands and we had rain - ponchos were supplied ???? but the Captain skippered us safely through the turbulent waters. We saw two dolphins and some reef fish at the island we stopped at. I would suggest that marine life is not guaranteed on this tour. However, Travis absolutely made the experience worth it. His cultural knowledge of the region including cool uses for some local flora and a whistling shell which the family have had so much fun with since. Even the 15 year old said he would love to spend a weekend walkabout with Travis to learn more! I agreed! Great memories made!

Which is fair enough but a good skipper should know the tide times so perhaps we shouldn't of bothered heading out there with the tides predictable.

The lunch was a subway 6 inch and if you didn't like it there was biscuits and a chocolate at the end. I was expecting something a bit Less commercial from an eco tour.

We were then taken to Round Island which wasn't worth the time. It's not suitable for Snorkelling especially at low tide and quality of the swimming beach is barely worth getting your swimmers on for. We had looked forward to the guide talking us through traditions of the land but the skipper dropped us off 700m from where this was held on the island and dragging our two young kids through sinking sand wasn't practical so we missed it.

Overall we spent 3 hours on the boat and 1 on an island which wasn't worth the visit.

The best part was the Yidaki song at and speech at the the end.

Overall I was unsure what made this tour Eco and wouldn't recommend it with Young kids or if it's low tide.

A birthday cruise to remember! I chose this tour for my family to do together on my birthday as I had heard great things, and we were not disappointed! The weather was spectacular, Aaron was so down to earth and vibrant with sharing his culture and the time spent on the beach was great. As a bonus we saw some great wildlife - including a mother and baby whale swimming past as a special gift. Highly recommend.

Had an amazing experience on the turtle discovery tour! We specifically picked this tour for the indigenous culture experience and knowledge of the land. The knowledge of the skipper and tour guide Aaron ensured we had a great day regardless of the weather conditions. Couldn't recommend this tour enough, had a great time and will absolutely do it again next hervey bay trip ????

We had the turtle discovery tour and were welcomed on the boat by John and Travis.

It was a nice day discovering nearby islands and learning about the Butchella culture and beliefs. Travis was very friendly and shared with us so much that we felt privileged of living this experience.

The only downside was the weather and so we did not get to enjoy snorkelling.

Fantastic tour, well worth the visit. The only suggestion I'd make is that it would help if there was a PA system on the boat so we can hear the tour operators better.

You should definiately try this tour An amazing day, we had a group of 7 with the oldest being 91 and the youngest being 8 all had a great time

Beautiful area, great crew, fine service, worth every penny of it. Outstanding value and family friendly. Boat stays in the calmer waters between the shore, Round and Woody Islands, depending on the tides. When the tides are not friendly, it does not hamper a great time on Round Island with the snorkeling, shells to be found, beautiful views and excellent crew. The indigenous guide (from the local Butchulla Clan) delivers a fine presentation on local Aboriginal history and gave cultural demonstrations on music and shared stories and tales. The food is Subway style sandwiches and plenty of fruit. All the fins and extra snorkel gear is provided. I have taken my visitors to Hervey Bay on this cruise several times and it is a spot on bonza of a trip and well worth the price. Highly recommended for families or anyone of any age or ability.

A fun day out - good value for money Unfortunately the weather was against us so we were unable to snorkel, saw no turtles, no dolphins and no dugongs!
However, this was more than compensated for by our marvellous guide (Tiga??) who entertained us with ‘First Nations’ stories and folklaw, as well as some traditional dance and didgeridoo playing on Round Island.
A great experience. Good value for money. Thanks for a fun outing.

DJINANG CULTURAL WALKING TOUR
What a wonderful walk we had with Jojo! We got learn to all about the history of the Butchulla tribe of Hervey Bay … the traditional owners of K’gari. We got to know a little bit about the culinary and medicinal values of the native flora, a little bit about the fauna and finished up with a little rest in a park while Jojo told stories on his didgeridoo for us! He is a very entertaining guide! The walk was very easy … easy enough for a lady on a walking stick to negotiate it. Well worth the time and money.

Indigenous guided walking tour Indigenous walking tour was a great little outing. It’s a very easy stroll along a small part of the Esplanade, the beach and Daymans Park. We learnt lots about the local trees, shrubs and flowers, the varied islands visible from the mainland and some history of the Butchulla mob. Jo Jo was a guide and kept us laughing with “dad jokes” as well as educating us. Highly recommend.

Relaxing day out Thanks to the crew for a pleasant relaxed day out . The weather wasn't conducive to snorkelling but the option was still there . Thank you Joe for sharing your knowledge of the land and Indigenous customs. We feel there is so much to learn and were grateful for the time you took to share. Hervey Bay sunset cruise Did this trip on 10/1/23, at the third attempt, cancelled twice once because of bad weather and the second time because the indigenous guide was unavailable. We had the option to be fully refunded but decided to try one last time before leaving for home two days later. Glad we did it was very enjoyable, the food was good and plentiful. The guide was informative and entertaining. It wouldn’t have been the same without the guide. We actually got off on Round Island for a short time which we didn’t expect, so don’t know if they always do that. Our Daughter lives in Hervey bay, so will be back to try one of the day time trips.

One of the best things we did during our stay in Hervey Bay. Travis was such a fantastic guide, so friendly and generous with his time (we asked a lot of questions!) and taught us so much about land and culture which made for a really special day for our family. A great yarn Because it was too windy to do a boat tour, we did a walk around Hervey Bay with Bruce, a fantastic guide and proud Butchulla man. It was like having a yarn with an old friend that sharing their passion and knowledge with you. It was fascinating and I hope that there’s much more inclusion of Butchulla stories and history - told by Butchulla people - in Hervey Bay/ K’gari tours in the years to come.

Bad if you go for the snorkeling or turtles. Good if you go for the aboriginal experience. Maybe I am biased because we had done Lady Elliot the day before but I was disappointed with their Turtle discovery tour for multiple reasons. The first one was the last minute change of the schedule. I had booked the 10h30 to 14h30pm tour months in advance and they changed it a couple of days before to accommodate more customers. The lunch was no longer going to be served at lunch time I now had the choice between an early or late lunch which with young kids is not ideal (8am or 1pm departures).

The tour itself was also disappointing. The glass bottom boat was useless and so was the snorkeling. They blamed it on the current water conditions which I do understand. I also felt they didn't really care about trying to find turtles. We went straight from point A to point B. Even if they thought one was spotted there was no attempt to get closer or even wait to see if it would come back to the surface. Not all was bad, Bruce our guide was very nice and his aboriginal presentation was great.

If you just want a slow boat ride and do not care about the snorkeling then I think you will appreciate the trip. In our case we were hoping the kids would see turtles or fish which the tour did not deliver but again the aboriginal part was great. Customer service throughout was also good other than the change of schedule.

Stunning locations and wildlife on this tour, led by local Butchulla guide Travis who also leads a welcome to country ceremony and bush tucker tasting. Extraordinary good value.

Lovely day out Very friendly and welcoming staff, great local information and lovely to see turtles as well as swim on the islands. Some snacks provided as well as half sub sandwich for lunch. Sun umbrellas were provided at the beach. Bring lots of water!

Great way to see the sunset and learn more about the local area We thoroughly enjoyed our Twilight Cruise. The highlights were walking around Round Island whilst hearing about the local indigenous food, wildlife, and culture.
The drinks and food were good and plentiful and loved the Digeridoo (Yidaki) playing and sunset was great too.
The captain and our guide were both excellent hosts and knowledgeable.

Milbi Sunset Cruise Beautiful night to enjoy a sunset cruise, was a wonderful end to a weekend of exploring Hervey Bay. Low key, informative & yummy food, definitely worth a look!

"An Incredible Tour With Incredible Locals" A little cliche but we enjoyed every moment. From our very first interaction with Jacqui and Donna whilst booking our little adventure. The whole team was so welcoming and enthusiastic. The tour itself was professionally run and all efforts were made to ensure everyone's safety and comfort aboard "The Milbi". The Captain of this fine vessel instilled a great confidence and briefed us very well and enlightened us all with his local nautical knowledge. The tour itself was relaxed, insightful and very entertaining. We had the great fortune of having two indigenous guides on our tour. Travis and Bruce were absolutely amazing, their knowledge, enthusiasm and charismatic way of passing down such a wealth of knowledge they have of this beautiful region is infectious. We also felt privileged to gain a better insight into our indigenous brothers and sisters. This was our first visit to Hervey Bay, I don't believe it's beauty could be showcased any better. My special needs son was able to snorkel for his very first time and was treated with absolute respect and patience at every point along the way. Sad, slow trip!! Both the tour operator and the indigenous person, Travis, seemed tired and removed from the experience today. Travis did give us a 15 minute demonstration of culture at a small island, which was very good and everyone really appreciated He has much knowledge to share. We swam, but Travis' did not provide any info about his culture on the boat. Weird, because he set out a large pile of skeletons of sea animals, but never mentioned those or let us know if we could touch them. "Lunch " is a half subway sandwich no mention of gf or vegan people aboard, and they did not get our gf order. Only 2 stops, the second to a rocky island "turtle alley". It rained but we could still snorkel. Absolutely no enthusiasm on the Captain's or Travis' part the entire 4 hours, except for that 15 minutes of culture sharing. Also, this is no "glass bottom boat." A small panel the length of the tired boat has not been cleaned so cannot be see through. Because it is only about 2 ft. wide, it would be difficult to see anything but bubbles. Really false advertising! This was a sad, slow 4 hours. I would encourage you to look elsewhere for a tour.

Great Family Day Before I get into our experience you need to remember this tour is subject to weather. The guides and skipper do not control nature so your experience is what you make of it on the day. We had a group of 8, youngest 13yo to the eldest 90yo. The day was slightly windy and the currents strong.However, the sun was out.
We could only get to two of the islands, sadly not pelican Island but safety first. The glass bottom boat is good in theory, but not really helpful in anyway on the sea. You can see much but bubbles.
Dinkadink (Willywag tail) and the skipper were helpful, friendly and did everything they possibly could for everyone. Welcome to country and local information was great. There was only one chance to snorkel and being from a dessert city, was still fun.
Sadly, I didn't see and marine life, but others had spotted a turtle or two.
Lunch was modest, and filled the whole. Head office just need to get their quantities correct.
In conclusion, would we do it again absolutely!

Perfect Morning It was a great opportunity to learn more about the aboriginal culture. This was exactly what I was looking for.
Dingka Dingka was such a kind man and did a really excellent job. He showed as different kind of plants and told us for what they are usefull. Besides he told us a lot about his culture and tribe.
I was deeply touched by the dreamtime stories and the dance and sing performance. Thank you sooo much for this wonderful day. ️

Laid back few hours We took this tour with our 9 year old and and 12 year old. The day was windy so we didn’t quite get the experience we were expecting from previous reviews. The kids were disappointed they missed out on snorkelling. I would say that the guides could have managed everyone a bit better and let us know exactly what was happening as we didn’t realise there wouldn’t be more opportunities for swimming or snorkelling and then The trip was over. The indigenous guide was very interesting and we loved the welcome to country and the information he gave us. Food was just average but there was enough. We acknowledge the conditions were what affected our trip but perhaps this could be stressed at the office beforehand so people have the opportunity to reschedule. A pleasant day out but probably a bit expensive for what we got.

Relaxing, congenial and informative The cruise was relaxing, staff friendly and welcoming, food was plentiful and tasty and the welcoming drink as we sailed out of the marina was a great way to start the trip. There was even a choice between dry or sweet champagne which I was very impressed with :) Travis, who was our First Nations guide was warm and humerous and spoke very well, captivating us with his talk on the local area, it's turtles and the history of the didgerdoo. That was particularly interesting, how they are made, the different names for them around the nations, and of course his beautiful playing of it. The weather didn't play the game, the wind had picked up and so we had to sail around the back of the island to calmer waters, which meant we couldn't land and disembark in the regular location. John the skipper managed to get us close to the small island, with maybe a 2 metre, ankle deep walk to the shore and we were given the choice to disembark or stay aboard. Some adventure seekers got off the boat, and explored the small island but most chose to stay aboard as Travis assured us he would do his talk and playing of the didgeridoo on the boat once everyone had reassembled - so that no one missed out. I can imagine that it would have been wonderful to be on the island gathered around Travis as he played the didgeridoo with the sunset behind him. But even still, as with any trip on the water, you can't control the weather and the congenial atmosphere onboard, the staff, the food and the gentle swaying of the boat on the return home with the twinkling lights of Hervey Bay guiding us in, made this a lovely trip that I can highly recommend to anyone visiting this beautiful bay.

Great scenery and interesting Indigenous elements. Nice day out. Liked Dingka's commentary and ceremony. Didn't see much marine life but I suppose that's luck of the draw. Subway lunch was very ordinary. Long walk over harsh sand to get to Welcome ceremony. Definitely wear reef shoes or thongs. Overall a very relaxing and pleasant tour, surrounded by beautiful scenery the whole time.

We had an absolutely amazing day, today, with Travis and John. Thank you Travis for sharing your piece of paradise, the Butchulla country, with us. We feel incredibly privileged to have seen the beauty, and to have swum in the crystal waters, seen turtles and dolphins, and to have learnt more about your people and land. I cant recommend these guys highly enough. There was a slight hiccup with the lunch on our day cruise, so they offered us the chance to return on the sunset cruise that evening. Which we did! We enjoyed champagne, prawns and a grazing platter, while watching the sunset to the special sounds of Travis' didgeridoo. Such a treat! And one we will remember for many years to come. Thanks guys ????

We went on Frazer Island by Experience Oz Remote Frazer Island Tour and it was simply fantastic. The crew were outstanding, the boat was spacious , clean and well organised. The whale watching was a wonderful experience with the skipper positioning the boat enabling a fantastic but respectful viewing point. The kayaks , the tube rides were well organised and clearly communicated to all. No pressure to do an activity. I am recovering from surgery( which occurred after i booked the tour) and I was a tad hesitant to go on this tour but after the crew completed a health questionnaire I felt included and was able to do what and when I wanted. I snorkled and paddled in the water with the numerous crew keeping an eye on me. Regardless of your age do this tour. Best tour I have been on

A very special experience We got way more than we expected.
Our indigenous guide Aaron was excellent he walked on Round Island with us, smoked fresh oysters and we tasted native spinach, he played the didgeridoo.
John the skipper was excellent as was Jackie in the office.
Our drinks and platters were delicious.
Tonight the weather was perfect as was the sunset

Nice beaches Nice day, sad boat though. Glass bottom boat that was so dirty it was green and brown, couldn't see anything. Average lunch and no tropical fruit as promised. Never been asked to help push the boat away from a catamaran when docking. Joe was a character and the beaches were beautiful but the tour was not worth $120 each.

Escape to Paradise From booking to disembarking this tour was a joy. It is truly like taking a trip to escape to paradise for a few hours. The boat is gentle and perfect for either large groups or solo travellers. The peace and tranquillity aboard the boat are amazing. I came back feeling renewed. It is difficult to find this level of authenticity and professionalism in one place. Every friend or family member who comes to Hervey Bay will be booked on these tours. It's the first place you should call when you are looking for things to do. The sunsets in Hervey Bay are truly beautiful but aboard the boat, you feel like you are witnessing something really special. Did I mention that the boat has a glass bottom? I found the staff to be very polite and accommodating Highly recommend.

Once on the boat all bad - the skipper was terrible and struggled to park the boat on many occasions, including on return to harbour (first time ever ive seen this on an excursion in 20 years around the world )

The guide wasnt interested in the group and just walked off by himself, didnt involve the group in much if anything he did, didnt interact with the group on the boat except when pulling into the harbour and explaining a didgeredoo

We got to walk around 2 small islands, no fish or turtles, nothing worth snorkelling for (location, water conditions), the atmosphere on the boat was non-existnet.

When we boarded they joked no management on boat so they could relax, they indicated a few management subordinate jokes, just sounded like disgruntled employees.

While i appreciate you cant predict water conditions, everything is that was wrong is in your control, get s better guide, a decent skipper and someone knowledgable on water conditions and alternate sites.

The highlight was crystal clear water on the last island, although no fish or coral and sand that collapsed when you walked on it which we found ammusement in!, and we were lucky enough to see a few dolphins about 300m away from the boat

Lunch was a 6" subway sandwhich, and no drinks were offered on board ..

Overall $240 wasted and 4 hours of the day lost sitting aimlessly on a boat to look at rocky beachs & walk in circles with no purpose, if you do decide to do it, take shoes you dont mind getting wet or lose your feet! ..

Very friendly I did three tours - the Djinang Walking Tour, the Milbi Sunset Tour and the Cultural Ecotour. I loved every experience. We were a bit unlucky not to see turtles but the weather was perfect. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and it was great to have Butchulla guide Aaron who shared his knowledge and didge playing.

Had 2 of the best experiences we could hope for!
The sunset cruise was wonderful and the crew were amazing!
Then we did the cultural walk and absolutely loved it! Aaron’s (our awesome guide) passion and knowledge is incredible and infectious. We will certainly be back to do more tours with these fantastic people
