In 1934 Melbourne celebrated its centenary and this event provided a
catalyst for a building boom that continued for the next six years to
transform the city.

This tour covers a variety of building types in the centre of the
city from the Manchester Unity Building to the Majorca Building. .The
use of terracotta ‘self-cleaning’ tiles, distinctive patterning, and
design details new during the period will be highlighted. Buildings with
accents on Spanish, Egyptian, Mayan and other cultures can be seen and
indicate what people were interested in the Art Deco period.


Thanks for the payment. Your Art Deco Architecture Tour is confirmed for the date specified at the Manchester Unity building, corner of Collins St and Swanston St in front of the entrance to the foyer on the Swanston St side. Your tour guide will be wearing a yellow MELTours bag. This is the tour booking confirmation – no tickets will be issued. We will see you on the day. To get the most out of your tour we recommend that you obtain a drink or coffee, visit the rest room and be at the start point 5 minutes prior. Note in case of no-shows and cancellations within 24 hours of the tour, to keep your booking a re-booking fee is needed to reschedule. The tour will run each and every time except if lightening/hail is seen – right at the start or during the tour. Note that all tours have a 13yo+ limit which is enforced as all tours contain adult concepts. Your mobile number will be used to advise of any last minute issues via text.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

This tour has a two-person minimum for the tour to run. Our booking staff will contact you via email and text at least 24 hours before the tour is to start if the tour hasn’t reached minimum numbers.
