Most of the people that come to this course have completed all of the required boating days and had their log book signed off over a period of time on a friend or family members boat.
If the practical component has been signed off and all you need is the theory information and to sit the knowledge test then this is the course you need to complete.
We usually join this theory group with the people completing both the practical and theory. The practical component is usually completed in the morning with the theory taking place after lunch. This is where the theory only students will join in.
1. By Car
Starting from central Sydney (as an example):
- Take the Princes Highway (A1) southbound.
- In the suburb of Sutherland, turn left onto President Avenue (Route A1 continues as Princes Hwy, but you’ll veer left onto President Ave).
- Continue on President Avenue until you reach The Kingsway; turn right onto The Kingsway.
- Follow The Kingsway all the way into Cronulla.
- Shortly after passing Cronulla High School on your right, watch for Waratah Street (it will be on your right).
- Turn right on Waratah Street and follow signs for Cronulla Sailing Club near the waterfront on Gunnamatta Bay.
Parking
- There is usually street parking around Waratah Street and nearby residential streets.
- Always check signage to ensure you park legally and be mindful that weekends can be busier.
2. By Public Transport
Train (T4 Line)
- From Sydney CBD or other stations on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line, catch a train to Cronulla Station (end of the line).
- Trains typically run every 10–15 minutes during peak times and every 15–30 minutes off-peak, but always check the timetable.
From Cronulla Station to Cronulla Sailing Club
- Walking: It’s about a 15–20 minute walk (1–1.5 km) depending on your route. Simply head west along Cronulla Street or The Kingsway, then turn onto Waratah Street to reach the waterfront.
- Bus: Certain local bus routes (e.g., 979) may stop nearby, but these can have limited schedules. Check Transport for NSW or local bus timetables to see if a bus aligns with your arrival time.
- Taxi / Rideshare: Taxis and rideshares (e.g., Uber) are generally available near Cronulla Station and can drop you off right at the Club.
Tips
- Plan ahead: Use the Transport for NSW Trip Planner or a similar tool to see up-to-date bus/train times and any service changes.
- Weekend travel: Traffic can be heavier, and parking can be more difficult in Cronulla on weekends, especially on sunny days and during special events.
- Walking directions: Always check a map app to confirm the best walking route once you arrive at Cronulla Station.
