My wife and I and our son and his partner stayed at this resort for two nights in August 2026.

We got there on the early ferry, and as expected, our rooms were not ready, but we were able to store our luggage and go about enjoying the island. We were notified by text about 2.00pm that our rooms were ready.

We stayed in an Island Suite which was comfortable, very spacious and was self contained. It had great views over the beach and also had a lovely balcony. It is starting to show signs of some needed updates, but still a very nice unit.

Our unit was on the second level and it was very noisy. We could hear the occupants above us walking around whenever they were there, as well as scraping chairs. It sounded like elephants! I would recommend booking a room on the third level (the highest level) if you want to avoid very noisy footsteps above.

The resort itself was very nice, with a big pool, two restaurants and lots of snorkeling spots around the island. There were also plenty of walks/hikes around the island, although some of them were quite challenging (steep with lots of rocks, tree roots and gravel).

Staff were very friendly, polite and welcoming.

I would recommend staying here.

I will start by saying the Staff are friendly and helpful. The Resort is tired and needs some TLC The reception, pool area and common areas are lacking in any ambience and are truly lack lustre. Even though I expressly enquired about being able to have only a main meal at Zephyr Restaurant and was told that was possible, at the Resort they said it was a 2 course menu Over the top price with very little options. Foxy’s Bar also had no ambiance and limited menu as well, but was adequate. The General Store was pitiful. So much could be done to make the resort more inviting. The pool bar served ordinary pre mixed cocktails. The snorkelling off the beach was reasonable and you saw many fish, turtles, wrasse, and coral . I even was fortunate to see a black tipped reef shark. The sign at Nudey beach put you off swimming, “ beware of currents, sharks, crocodiles, and stingers” 😂 Life in Australia 😂 I am glad I have been but no need to return In my eyes if the Gamble family improved the resort more people would stay rather than a day trip and it would be a much better experience

Save your money and go elsewhere.
So disappointing.

Positive. Meal at night at Zephyr restaurant amazing and beautiful wait staff.

Negatives. Arrive at 9am. No food available on island except prepackaged sausage rolls and pies until 11.30.

Nowhere comfortable to sit as it was raining only in pub area and no seats available.

Pool to resort guests - freezing cold. No change rooms or showers.

Glass bottom boat only goes twice a day so packed and booked out.

Room generous size. Very tired and old. Bathroom leaked from room above. Two single beds pushed together for king size bed. No mattress topper 1 inch height difference on mattresses so couldn’t even snuggle together.

No room service. Free tea and coffee. No biscuits. No mini bar.

Tiles everywhere - slippery as hell and walkways rotting with gaps and slippery also.

Won’t ever recommend this beautiful landscape and water to anyone as the rest of the place is hellish. .

Stayed 3 nights in a beach front cabin.. the location on the beach front is the only plus point.

The cabin was shabby (back packer shabby) the bathroom was dirty, tge shower door couldn’t be closed when you were in it.. water went everywhere. The sink was cracked. The bed was uncomfortable THE WAS NO MATTRESS PROTECTION.. I found this out whilst looking why the bed smelled!!!!!! The was no wardrobe or cupboards to put clothes. Everything was cheap and nasty.
The restaurant food was cheap quality with high price tag.. no place to buy provisions (says there is a general store but it has nothing you could live on)
Breakfast each morning was cheap quality abd the staff were rude.
Booked a glass bottom boat trip, it was raining (not their fault of course) when we got on we were told we wouldn’t see anything because of the weather.. which we didn’t .. they took our money for nothing.
This trip was for my 60th birthday. Fitzroy island left me thousands out of pocket for a complete crap birthday.

We enjoyed a weekend getaway to Fitzroy Island, staying in one of the Welcome Bay Suites, with a stunning ocean view across the bay. Just lovely in so many ways, listening to the waves in the evenings and waking up to the gentle sounds first thing in the morning sitting on the patio was a treat. The room has a kitchen with cooking facilities, fridge, cutlery etc, and a Nespresso coffee machine. We bought along extra nespresso pods as we enjoy a few more than usual coffess during the day. We took advantage of the modern kitchen providing the pans,pots, plates etc, bringing over food for one of our evening and meals.
We dined at Zafar's the first evening, the 4 course meal was delicious and well presented. Staff are so friendly and welcoming.
A walk to Nudey beach is a must - wear good footwear, and if you can do them - the hill trails with that outstanding views and lush rain forest would be great.
So many activities to get involved with.
Snorkeling is right of the resort - so close and family friendly - even better for older gen like ourselves.

Our stay at Fitzroy Island Resort was a fantastic blend of adventure and relaxation. The island itself is breathtaking. The walking tracks require some effort, but the panoramic views at the summit are absolutely worth it. The absolute highlight was the beach and snorkeling; we were lucky enough to swim right alongside wild sea turtles up close in the ocean, which was an unforgettable experience.The resort's three-course dinner was lovely, featuring great flavors and excellent service.As for the accommodation, our room was nice and visually appealing. However, we hit two minor snags: our air conditioning unit glitched and wouldn’t turn off, making the room a bit too chilly, and the standard in-room milk for morning coffee/tea was missing.Despite these small amenity oversights, the incredible natural environment and great food make this resort highly recommendable. We would definitely return!

Stunning rainforest location! This island is stunning. The two beaches are fabulous especially Nudey beach . The hike to Nudey beach is a tad challenging.
My daughter and I stayed overnight on the resort. This hotel is dated and very grubby in parts. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and also had dinner in the restaurant. Dinner was $70 for two very small courses. Overpriced and definitely not worth it. We were sorry we didn’t eat in Foxy’s bar. The food looked more wholesome. Breakfast was an improvement. My daughter and her friend climbed to the Summit while I relaxed on the beach. I saw a whale from the beach. Lots of opportunities to snorkel and we had a stunning sunset!
Resort has the potential to be something special but needs major investment of money to revive it.

Resort needs to improve Paradise island. Resort with late maintenance and services (restaurant, pool, hospitality) below the beauty of the site.
Even if you book a ferry directly through the resort to spend the day on the island, you are not allowed to access the same areas as you are staying.

Maybe just a day trip The island is beautiful. The experience of the resort leaves you feeling like ‘this place could be nice too’ but never quite hits the mark.

We stayed in a beach cabin. Very simple, bathroom floods so you are literally standing (or sitting!) in an inch of water for your entire trip. At first I was annoyed that they had made me purchase a second room for the kids when the cabin has three beds. (I don’t know why the website doesn’t say the cabin sleeps 4!) But after getting wet every time I went to the bathroom, I was happy they were dry up in a separate room.

The staff on the island will smile and be pleasant, but they’re lazy (island time!) and don’t really care about your experience. It’s the first island I’ve been to anywhere in the world that doesn’t have a good bar. There was one by the pool that never opens, and the bistro restaurant Foxy’s is either overrun by daytrippers during the day or has the vibe of a retirement village at night and closes at 8:30pm. I’m not even much of a drinker, but cocktails by the beach is a staple of tropical island vacations, right? Not here

The food My daughter pulled an entire chopped onion out of a salad - it was disgusting, inedible. Like they had struggled with ingredients and turned to their trusty onion chopping skills. The general store is like a third world ration depot, without any rations Food choices are very limited. We tried the $85 set menu one night, quality was okay, 3 stars, but like sitting at a flouro lit cafeteria with zero atmosphere.

I didn’t get an itemised bill via email, so I’m still wondering what the other charges were

The snorkelling wasn’t optimal due to weather, algae and low visibility. But we did see a turtle and plenty of fish. The ocean vistas and sounds of rolling waves and birds are sublime.

I have to say the daily horde of day trippers will keep me away from Fitzroy Island in the future. Their noise, rubbish and nosiness around the beach cabins was not pleasant. And forget about trying to get lunch at the only open restaurant when they’re around. Thanks to them for the bag of rubbish left on our steps!

I am happy we got to see this beautiful place in the moments of early morning and late afternoon when the horde had subsided to the mainland - but will pick a different island to explore the next time we head to Queensland. And I can’t help wondering what the place could be like if it was run to actually give guests of the resorts a great experience.

Disgraceful management of the Resort We recently booked the most expensive two bedroom unit on the beach at the Fitzroy resort.($2700 for 4 nights) It was a special trip and my expectations were high.
There were four of us, including 2 teenage grandchildren who were excited about what was on offer.
Firstly the island is stunning. It is not run by Fitzroy island resort so this review is about the resort only.
We arrived on a Monday. Promised early check-in due to our villa we arrived at 12. Despite two enquiries we were checked in at 3 with all the other guests.
No one I could see got checked in when their rooms were ready, so everyone had to line up at 3. Ridiculous.
Not offered any assistance we dragged our suitcases quite a way down the coral path ,with groceries it was difficult.
The unit was lovely, with a warm beach feel.
I went to reception and asked for more towels and were told we had booked for 2, not4, so would also need to pay for 2 extra breakfasts .
When I checked my price was for 4 so we had already paid for 4 but I had to argue the point.
Towels didn’t arrive until I complained the next day.
The T V wouldn’t work, especially annoying as with 2 soccer fans they had to watch the world cup in their phones. No one came to help for 3 days.
The stove top was conductive and the saucepan aluminium so that didn’t work either. The oven needed a licence to operate. We never figured it out.
No microwave.
No instructions for anything at all.
My grandson found his new bathers were too big so we headed off to the 2 stores to get a new pair. Well you could buy 500 T shirts and not one item of clothing below the waist.
The general store is advertised as having essential items but doesn’t sell bread!
It has shelf after shelf of the same chips and snacks but very little food, despite accommodation having kitchens and the expectation we could buy basic items. The ferry comes 2-3 times a day, bring food!
The two restaurants are the beach type cafe and a “ higher end dining experience “ , though plastic chairs, etc. Food was nice at both.
The grandkids headed to the pool table to be told it was broken ( had been for2 months)
So they ate dinner and waited for the promised live music and dance. Don’t hold your breath, that doesn’t happen either.
The drinks area has not been “blessed” with a blender so no fresh juice, smoothies or milk shakes either.
The day trippers use the toilets next to the store and there’s always a queue, they stink and people complained how filthy they were.
Granddaughter tried scuba diving, great staff. But anyone wanted to access the beach has to climb over massive slippery sandbags. Of course sandbags are necessary but they also need steps. The scuba staff have asked for ages for what us a Worksafe requirement. My son slipped into a sideways split and hurt his back.
My mobility isn’t great and after one attempt to climb over the massive bags I didn’t swim again.
Day three I asked to speak to the manager, he never came.
Next day, feeling quite annoyed, I asked again to be told he had the day off.
The assistant manager ( Rodney) came to see me.
As I listed all our disappointments he told me of their future plans.
Seriously. I told him I really didn’t care. I wouldn’t be there for any of that. We came for what was offered right now and we’re very disappointed. I asked how long he and the manager had worked there and he said 18 months. I informed him I’d be ashamed to tell a customer that when the resort was so badly managed.
His excuses? It was hard to get someone to come to the island to fix the pool table - how about send it to Cairns on the ferry!
The toilets are dirty excuse was “it's a high traffic area” here’s an idea - clean them more often.
He said we should have got priority check in, towels, etc etc. The instructions were removed because they didn’t like “ signage”.
The handyman came ( great bloke) and it turns out the TV is the only one like that and he finally worked out it wouldn’t work on the island wifi. So it had to go thru my so sons phone which meant he couldn’t use it while the TV was on.
There was supposed to be a microwave so it was ordered from cairns the day before we left.
The handyman couldn’t work the oven either.
Everyday I checked if the kayaks were available. It was a bit windy so I understand when they have to shut down that activity. On the Wednesday I asked again and was told Thursday should be fine in the afternoon. We arrived at 3 to book the kayaks, a much anticipated activity.
Only to be told they close at 3!!! No one thought to mention that the day before. So yet again very disappointed kids.
The live music and dance stopped some time ago but websites not not updated.
The General store gets asks for bread constantly but never receives any to sell.
This particular villa is supposed to be serviced daily. That only happened day 3 when I asked.
Oh yes, we were supposed to get a complimentary fruit bowl too. That never happened and Rodney stopped answering my emails after we left the island.
I also asked him if he ever read TripAdvisor reviews because so many of them were negative about the same things I was complaining about. He said he did, and he and the manager obviously ignore the guests who have very valid complaints.
I am tempted to give the resort 1 star but the resort staff are lovely and the unit was too.
The management are really poor and it’s such a shame. It’s not fair on the staff to be continually placating guests either.

Beautiful Island poorly run resort After traveling to alot of Island resorts this would have to be the worst !
On arrival there was no welcome no music no shell lay no welcome drink nothing. We basically lined up like a herd of animals waiting to check in, was stressful and not the island or holiday vibe we were expecting like other resorts.

After requesting twin beds in our room we were given one queen bed and the sofa lounge was made up which had a piece of foam overa hard base not suit all to sleep on. By any means. We then asked for a rollaway bed. This was a camp stretcher with foam laid over the top again not even suitable for a child to sleep on. Very disappointing.

We were told that our room would be serviced every third day. We didn’t see anybody at all for a four night stay. Nobody answered the phone so-we had to continuously walk down to reception to ask for clean towels not even a garbage bin liner for us to empty our own bin.

The island itself was beautiful. The snorkelling was great but the resort needs a lot of work and to make paying resort guests feel a little bit more privileged than day trippers, I’ve never been to a resort where you have to pay for non-motorised activities such as kayaks stand-up paddle boards and snorkelling equipment you had to pay for everything which has just ridiculous. !

The pool bar was never opened no cocktails on offer no vibe. Nothing we didn’t even use the pool because it was just like an abandoned area no music nothing for the kids no activities scheduled.

Food options were very poor foxies had all fried food and a few salads that were worth not worth purchasing otherwise we had to pay $85 for a set menu which I wasn’t willing to do.
Overall I think Fitzroy Island is great for a day trip but definitely not to stay overnight.

No blankets for 5 star island resort The island was beautiful we stayed for a night for a friends birthday I had my two kids and a friend with me we booked a room for 4 people two adults and two children who were not small children either 15 and 16 we hiked all day and enjoyed the island spent a lot of money at foxy’s at dinner to come back to our room to get ready for bed to find there is only one blanket for a 2 bedroom beach cabin right on the beach with 2 single beds in one room and a queen in the other with only 1 blanket when I rang the reception to ask for more blankets the lady told me they had a shortage and her solution was to turn the heater on the aircon which also didn’t work my kids slept on the single beds with a sheet and a towel woke up multiple times because they were cold ended up putting them in bed with me and my other adult friend at 3 am so it was 4 of us sharing one bed and one blanket in a 5 star island resort and when I emailed about it I get no response

Stay away, it is an absolute outrage Absolutely not!!
Expensive stay due to false pretenses.
The whole resort is loveless, filthy, and only out to rip off the guests.
The rooms were not cleaned, many pieces of furniture were worn out and partly moldy.
The staff is superficial and laughs about how stupid one can be to pay so much for nothing.
And if someone thinks that as long as nature is beautiful, they are mistaken. You have to pay a lot for every activity.
We had booked 5 nights through BOOKING and left after the 1st. Night departed.
BOOKING gives it 4-5 stars ????

The whole resort deserves to be sued. An absolute outrage.

*** Update *** I still haven heard anything from the customer service team despite the promise I had on here. Conclusion, they don't care!
The island is stunning. Ridiculously expensive and a surcharge at the weekend! Criminal. The resort is dreadful. Smelly damp rooms, damp sheets, filthy showers, clumps of hair on the tiles and water that does not drain. Cockroaches in my tea cups and bathroom at night. I made a very pleasant and calm complaint and was asked to email which I did. I've had no response despite my reminding the resort that I was still waiting. I genuinely rarely post negative reviews but they had the chance to do the right thing and didn't. Terrible customer service. Shame on them.

We had a wonderful trip to Fitzroy staying in the Butterfly Bungalows. Definitely worth staying overnight for the incredible sunset views, morning snorkelling over the water, having the beach all to yourself, amazing stars, and delicious buffet breakfast in the mornings!

We got a package deal booking directly with the resort which included breakfast and had such a lovely time each morning enjoying with an amazing view. Walking over to Nudey beach after, doing the summit hike or going for a snorkel right off Welcome Bay was perfect!

Great place for young families, yes the room was run down and could use some maintenance but overall the service from staff, location, access to the beach, amenities, the pool area and pool bar were all great.

Lovely views but disappointed with the resort. We were looking forward to two wonderful nights on a Barrier Reef Island. However we were disappointed with everything except the walk to the lookout which was great.
No view from our room, no special welcome from the staff or welcome drink. The resort looked run down and the men’s toilet at Foxys was disgusting and wasn’t cleaned while we were there.
Meals were very average with limited healthy food.
The resort was lacking atmosphere and smiling happy staff.

Dream holiday ruined at run down resort Really rundown and the rooms are really musty. The area near Foxy Cafe and near the pool bar is near smelly unclean toilets. The breakfast was cold. Little bugs were breeding in the bathroom tap.Not a dream family holiday:(

Disgusting. Give this a big miss. Rather than write a burbled review, here are the bullet points:
- breakfast is always cold, Bain-Marie’s warm but food cold to begin with when put in there. Bain Marie retains heat, not heats food. Complaints day after day to staff fell on deaf ears. No microwave apparently to heat your cold breakfast up
- Room 311 aircon stuck on full & cold, no remote had to change rooms. Technician already aware of it. Room rented out to another sucker without repair done.
- Rm 317 tiles cracked, no drying rack, shower drains into bathroom not shower. Bathroom tiler obviously doesn’t understand gravity, or perhaps the building is subsiding?
- Hot water takes 10 minutes to come through. Not enough pressure to push it from ground to top floor.
- Rain shower head only. No good for shorties or even average height folks.
- Internet sporadic, more off than on, even in public areas. Even the TV (on Internet) cuts out. It’s free but it’s honestly rubbish.
- No housekeeping until third day after 3pm. Find your own resources - you’re on your own!
- Houseguests have to pay for hireage of snorkel equipment. Really? Aren’t you charging enough?
- Weekend surcharge; simply filthy gouging. A $14 beer suddenly becomes $16 per can!
- Don’t get sucked into booking for Zephyr restaurant, not busy, bookings are not essential as described in the arrival literature; that’s wishful thinking, minimum 2 course charge - go to Foxys instead.
- Chipped crockery with grime & bacteria in cracks, yuck!
- Balconies noisy - people smoking, wafting in all the time
- Constant stream of ferries stinking of diesel at the wharf, leaving them idling, no peace & quiet. As soon as one leaves, another arrives. Do you like Diesel fumes?
- Damp wet musty smell in all rooms. Ok it’s subtropical, but so are other places that don’t have this issue
- Dive shop cannot accommodate actual diving, third party company visits one day a week, Wednesdays. Tough luck if you’re not here on Wednesday.
- Staff rude and uncaring in dive shop. Obviously on wages. No care.
- Staff unfriendly in general except for Foxys restaurant & bar: the best staff on the island. Foreigners on their OE mainly, but some good buggers in there. Shame about the rest of the staff, from reception to the gardners; unfriendly.
- Toilets at Foxys are disgusting: dirty, stinking & I’m sure the men’s have not been cleaned in the four years since our last visit. Disgusting. That is where most day trippers first go to off the ferries.
- Subsidence throughout accommodation; emergency walkway repairs going on, grinding, cutting and drilling all day. Many cracked tiles, cracks in walls, wonky showers as previously mentioned.
- Complaint emails left unanswered. Still waiting for a reply from many days ago.
- A terrible experience, a resort having the guts flogged out of it, will never be back. Owners obviously have no social conscience for what they are providing. Just want your dollars, with a minimal spend on upkeep unless it’s an emergency, like the walkways collapsing, as we observed.
- No evidence of senior staff, all newbies, no supervision or training
- No welcome pack - no map given when you arrive
- Billing issues: charged for whole bottles instead of per glass; check those receipts!
- Booking issues: bookings messed up, nobody taking responsibility.
- Beer is $10-14 per can. Per can!
- Guests are treated as second class citizens: day trippers are being ripped off for services, food & beverages.
To consider this place a “resort” is an overstatement. It should be a “last resort”. Spend your money elsewhere.

Very unhappy with our stay. We have two girls under 2 who are very picky with what they eat. Prior to booking we called the resort and we were told we can’t bring food to the resort and we’d be able to buy bread and other items to make sandwiches from the general store. We were completely fine with that so we booked 2 nights. Upon arriving, we went straight to the general store and were told by the lady that they don’t stock bread. Our girls barely ate the first day we were there. They had buffet breakfast the following morning and wanted to charge us for our babies who literally barely eat! We decided wanted to leave a night early due to this situation but the girl we spoke to said we wouldn’t get a refund or credit for our second night stay. We even explained that we would’ve been more prepared and we should’ve been given correct information. Not to mention, the people on the ferry there looked like they had gone grocery shopping with supermarket bags full of goodies. We asked to speak to a manager and were told they did not want to speak to us and that they would get back to us via email. Unfortunately no reply. What was supposed to be a relaxing couple of nights ended up being full of disappointment and crying by two upset and hungry babies:(

Don't bother Dreadful. Ridiculously expensive. Weekend surcharge. Damp, smelly rooms, cockroaches in the bathroom. Cockroaches in our tea cups. Issues with showers and air-conditioning. I made a very calm complaint and was asked to email my issues. I did this and its been a week and still not heard anything back -- despite the reminder email I sent. We were a party of 10 every room had something wrong with it. Staff are lovely, the rest is sub,sub,sub par.

I love Fitzroy as a local but there is a lot of problems now with it when we got there at about 12 it started of fine but then at 2:30 we went to check if we could do an early check in she just said no that’s it a bit rude. We wanted to do an early check in because I had a head ache and my son was overwhelmed then we went back at 3 big line of one staff doing everyone we waited 10 minutes in line then when we got to front our room got delayed till 3:30 so hot and my head ache got worse and then my son was so tired and Evan more overwhelmed. The. She told us sorry that’s it also a bit rude. Then we came back at 3:30 finally got our room it was wellcome bay suite then We got into our room it was all good for 5 minutes. Then we found out the sofa bed was broken then we had to move to a different room then we had to pack everything up that took us a while we finally got into our room at 4:30 then it was an older one cracks on corner and the bath room was older and then the tap was broken. Over all the staff were rude not how I remembered it because we are loyal customers to the Fitzroy island resort group because we started come to Fitzroy in 2018 a lot has changed so sad staff were rude did not care uncomfortable bed overall not impressed we are locals in cairns. Fitzroy island resort I don’t normally make reviews like this but this is the worst experience I have ever had at anywhere I have stayed. Also I am a single mum so it was hard with my 2 kids son and daughter.
Would like some kind of vouchers like free dinner or like some kind of free night stay for 3 people. we only got a free ferry back and a dink voucher. Note this was meant to be a relaxing holiday experience but all it was is stress and worry.another things was the walk ways look so unsafe holes and it was 2 stories up and bumps. Would not recommend to come here.

Where to start. I am a local and visit Fitzroy often. The service has drastically changed for the worse since I was there last. My friend and I went for a day trip to Fitzroy. it’s disappointing that if you are not staying the night, there is a lot of things that you cannot do. If you need to use the bathroom, you need to walk to the other side of the island. You are not allowed to use the toilets in the reception as they are for over nighters only. If you need to fill up your water bottle, you also need to walk down to the other side of the island to buy water as you are not allowed to access the resort restaurant. The two workers in the hire shop were VERY rude. Didn’t go back to organize another hire due to their service. Bathrooms have mould on the wall. The beach is beautiful and there is another beach that you were able to go to which is Nudey Beach - 15 minute walk but definitely worth it. (three stars have been given only for the beautiful island not for the resort and their service)

Fabulous Fitzroy Fitzroy offers a fabulous reef experience. This was my first visit - I can't believe I grew up in Qld and yet hadn't visited previously. The modern resort was a pleasant surprise as was the dining - it's hard to do this well when you're not on the mainland. Meanwhile, the variety of sea life and corals just off the beach were awesome, especially given proximity to Cairns. This island is a gem for the price and convenience. I will visit again.

It’s always nice to go to an island for a few days vacation. The resort is not luxury but good enough for most people.

Pros
- Nice boat ride out to the island.
- Not very crowded, even with the day trippers.
- Lots of nature.

Cons:
- Pricing a bit high for what you get.
- Coral reef in sorry state unfortunately.

The 6 of us On arrival we were given room keys to a smelly dark damp room, honestly I dont know how people even sleep in them.the 6 of us requested a upgrade and were able to get 3 overpriced beachfront units.
The bar closes at 8pm which really is a joke we were drinking bubbles and believe it or not the bar ran out of glasses.
The next morning we went to breakfast and had to wait for breakfast bowls the waitress said " we need to buy more".
The resort bathrooms were rather grubby as were the chairs and tables in the pool area and communal areas.( we never seen a cleaner the whole time we were there which was strange)
By the way im still waiting for some coffee pods for the nespresso coffee machine that was in our room that the manager said the cleaners would deliver! On reading the reviews all i see is a generic reply promising action and from what we saw there is none.

In need of a deep clean and refurb Did an overnight on Fitzroy island as part of our tour of Australia, the island itself is amazing, beautiful and unspoilt, teaming with wildlife. The resort unfortunately does not match up to the surroundings, our room was very basic, furniture was tatty, large scrap marks on floors and in need of a refub and a good clean. When walking along the boardwalk to our room we could see other rooms with unmade beds in that remained that way throughout our stay. The public toilets and other areas were also needing a thorough deep clean, the toilets in particular were disgustingly dirty.

We ate in the Zephyr restaurant the first night, food was more style over substance, I had the roo which consisted of 6 bite sized pieces of meat and one large mushroom cut into 3 pieces on a smear of beetroot puree, at the price point I expected more.

Foxys is in a lovely setting overlooking the sea which we used for drinks.

I would return to the island but not stay overnight, when checking in we were again charged the full room rate which had already been paid, husband has to speak to staff about this who advised it is a glitch which often happens 🙈

Staff were all friendly and helpful

A series of a Unfortunate Events I booked this trip for our anniversary expecting a relaxing resort stay and instead got what felt like a three-day episode of “How Much Can Go Wrong in One Room?”

On arrival, reception gave us little more than a place to leave our bags for five minutes before disappearing into the void. I later received an email informing me that the queen room I booked had apparently transformed into two single, but it was fine because housekeeping were instructed to have the beds pushed together. Romantic in theory, except for the giant trench in the middle that my partner kept disappearing into all night. The beds were also on tiles and slid around every time either of us moved, which really added to the “sleeping on a moving platform” experience.

The room itself looked like it had been cleaned in a hurry and then abandoned halfway through. The floor was still wet and sticky when we walked in, there were paper towel fibres stuck all over the mirror, and the “luxury black tiled bathroom” had enough calcium build-up on the shower and tiles to qualify as a geological feature. The shower door squealed and scraped every time it moved, the water pressure was terrible, the hot water was never actually hot, and after two minutes in the shower the pipes would start screaming too. There was visible water damage and mould beginning above the shower as well. I could go into detail over the dirt in every corner and around the walls but its whatever i guess.

The room had one thick blanket and one thin sheet for what was effectively two separate beds, so we spent three nights freezing and trying to negotiate blanket custody. Obviously, there isn't a fitted sheet to fit this spectacle of a bed, and the flat sheet folded hospital style kept pulling up all night. The tiles throughout the room were cracked and moved underfoot with loud crunching noises, which was a lovely touch real scenic yknow, bringing the hike indoors. The kettle looked like it had survived several natural disasters, the fridge froze everything solid and exploded three of our drinks overnight, and neither the TV nor my phone would connect to the Wi-Fi, “ IP address could not be found”

Privacy was also apparently optional, because the curtains were hanging off the rails and my partner had to stand on a chair to fix them so people walking past couldn’t see straight into the room. Also not soundproof at all, we could hear every convo outside and I'm sure they could hear ours inside the room also. Then on the second day we came back to find a male staff member standing on the boardwalk laughing and pointing his phone into our room. He stopped as soon as he saw us and walked away without saying a word, which was genuinely uncomfortable.

One of the main reasons we booked this place was for the kayaks, only to find out once we got there that they had been unavailable for some time due to storm damage. Fair enough, weather happens, but there was no mention of this online, on Facebook, or before arrival. Instead there was just some old masking tape over the sign at the FISH centre that looked like it had been there for a hot minute now.

The boardwalks themselves felt like a workplace injury claim waiting to happen. The red panels were uneven, loose and wobbly, especially when wet. I nearly tripped several times before I realised I had to actively watch where I was walking the entire time. For a family resort where swimming is the main activity, it feels like an accident waiting to happen.

The only people I genuinely felt sorry for were the bar, general store and kitchen staff, because they seemed completely overworked, undertrained and understaffed. The chef was clearly trying his best, but if you are charging luxury prices, adding a public holiday surcharge “for staff”, and still running with minimal staff, it comes across as pretty misleading. The general store workers, I met 2 in the time I had stayed, were the sweetest girls and listening to them struggle to find options on their till and tourists huffing at them it took me back to when i worked in the same position. Also pack your own snacks, the selection was crap, do you want chips or chips or chips or oh more chips.

To top it all off, on the last day I was charged another $376 (thank the universe i must approve payments) despite already paying in full. When I went to reception with my bank statement showing the payment, I was basically treated like I was trying to steal from the resort. I was told “there’s no payment here” as if that was somehow my issue to fix.

I have worked in housekeeping, administration and hospitality in a very similar style of resort in Far North Queensland, so I know things go wrong sometimes. But for the prices being charged here, this place is nowhere near the standard it advertises. The location is beautiful, but unfortunately the resort itself feels tired, poorly maintained and badly managed.

Other than all those unfortunate events, the Fitzroy flyer staff were amazing, hilarious demonstration of safety procedures and friendly while explaining the island itself on the way over. I would recommend warm pjs and a robe for your room as its genuinely freezing with the ac off and the windows shut, and look out for the cute lizards in the walls sticking their heads out :)

I have photo proof of all so when hopefully someone reaches out we can sort this out appropriately.

Disgusted Common areas in this resort were filthy, This was charged at 5 star and supplied 2 star, paid for 2 nights and left after 1 the management wasn’t interested in our concerns. I sent them an email but they said that their policy isn’t to give refunds. My advice save your money and go somewhere else

Such a great destination ruined by inept and arrogant staff. Both the booking office staff at Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal and the check-in staff on the island could not do less to help us enjoy our overnight stay.
Our ferry departure was changed 3 times without any adequate communication leaving us sitting at the jetty for hours. We were then duped into believing we would receive refunds for our transfers as ‘compensation’ only to receive half the money back. The return transport time was also changed whilst we were on the island.
The resort is run down, the toilets at foxy’s stink and the food is overpriced and rubbish.
I have been visiting Fitzroy Island for 30 years and to have such a negative experience is sad. I used to rave about this island and recommend it to everyone I knew but not any more. Steer clear! It felt as though we, as guests, were in the way and an inconvenience to the staff on their working holiday visas.

Tropical paradise The island itself is breathtaking, like something out of a movie. An absolute tropical paradise. We stayed days after a cyclone hit, so unfortunately the snorkelling wasn't ideal conditions, but it didn't stop us, and we still managed to see many fish and turtles. There are multiple hiking tracks and we came across so much amazing wildlife including a python and a large goanna. The resort is wonderful. Gear hire, the general store and the restaurants are all a short walking distance away. We stayed in the Welcome Bay suite overlooking the ocean and it was like a dream. The suite was clean and equipped with all the essentials including a washing machine and dryer. They even stock laundry liquid. We visited during a non-peak time so it was very quiet and we often had the pool to ourselves. Be aware that supplies are very limited on the island, so if you are staying longer than a night or 2, be sure to pack everything you need. Our package included the buffet breakfast at Zephyr's which I highly recommend due to the limited food supply at the general store. The staff are laid-back, pleasant and helpful. A very relaxing trip. I would absolutely revisit.

We have been coming to Fitzroy for years - sadly the service is getting worse. The flyer needed maintenance- fine - and they sent 3 emails and 2 texts Friday night to reschedule us to 1pm. Also fine. We arrived into the city and parked and trudged over to be told they had moved us to 3pm. I asked why they hadn't called me, as now we have lost a big chunk of our holiday and had to wait another 2 hours in the city because they hadn't called me. The 'manager' said she apologies that her efforts hadnt met my expectations. I had to stop her at her choice of words and say, you didn't make any effort. A phone call would have sufficed. She finally agreed as their error, to refund our transfers, only to be told when I arrived on the island, they would refund only half as they thoight that generous enough. Again, not agreed upon and completely cluster-cussed our day.
Next time we will come for the day, on another provider.

Save yourself some money....go for a day trip. So disappointed with the rooms and service. Food is absolutely horrible, breakfast is laid out the night before while you're still finishing your dinner in the restaurant.....the restaurant says air-conditioned.... it's not...the doors are wide open and it's very hot and humid. Foxys bar is the only option for food on the island apart from the restaurant and it's woeful. The general store is shocking and run down so expect no snacks from there. The pool bar closes at 4pm. No food or snacks are served at the bar. The pool is missing tiles on the bottom of it.

The rooms are so run down and full of mould. Tiles are cracked, door trims are rotted away. The hotel towles were full of holes and paint. Great location but that's it.

What an amazing place to visit we stayed for 3 night in a welcome bay suite. The staff were very friendly and approachable and happy to help in any way they could. The resort it self was fantastic but a minor repairs needed but nothing major. the food at foxys and zephers restaurant is great. Noting can beat the natural beauty of Fitzroy Island and its amazing sea life

We came from the Gold Coast and the hotel completely exceeded our expectations. The food in the restaurant was delicious, and the breakfast had many options to choose from. The service and cleanliness at the hotel were incredible. The whole island is like a dream; our stay on the island was fabulous.

Fitzroy Island Resort We are locals. Came for a night away but were disappointed. Resort is tired and in need of some TLC. Facilities (coffee, buffet breakfast, no pool table, pool bar closes early) are poor. Place is overpriced. Staff are friendly and we did a lovely walk to the lighthouse. The island is pretty. If you get the weather there is great snorkeling. I would recommend a day trip rather than overnight.

The restort definitely needs some TLC, I can imagine it 20 years ago and it would have been awesome. Games room sign is still up but no longer is accessible to the public, this is the same with so many rooms as they just seem like storage. In the room theres no microwave, any kitchenware or even a dam bin, staying here for more than one night absolutely suck. The room is very small but fine, bathroom looks quite fancy but definitely weird, there's two toilet roll holders. Plus there's no kitchenet but a full clothes line and ironing board. They want you to just buy on the island the whole time but the restaurants are l extremely expensive. The island itself could have more to do, even the staff seem really bored. How much longer will it last before it just becomes abandoned? Definitely would not be staying here again nor recommending to anyone.

wow where do i even start. fitzroy island was a life changing experience that i will hold close to my heart for the rest of my life. from the minute i came on board the ferry i was welcomed by friendly staff (and forced to do a push up for sunscreen) and a great ride to the island itself.

the island was breath taking - the reef full of corals, turtles, sharks, rays and many beautiful fish. the insane summit and lighthouse walk that showed me views that left me speechless. the resort itself with its cute bar, restaurant, dive centre, pool and my personal favourite place: the jetty.

the experiences i was able to have at fitzroy were absolutely unique and astonishing. the snorkel tours taken by a range of funny and educated staff members (shoutouts to josh, hannah, eddy), the dive centre crew itself sarah & letty and an awesome glass bottom boat driven by the remarkable violet who also lead a wonderful sunset boat tour that although was in the pouring rain, was still as beautiful and refreshing as ever. i was also lucky enough to be able to do the marine conservation program for the day on the island and it was insane - physiotherapy on a turtle, surveying the reef and a snorkel with intelligent josh!

the food was absolutely delectable and the customer service in all the bars (shoutout to ben from the pool bar - watch out he will squirt you with his big water gun) and the restaurant was magnificent, shoutout to the beautiful kyah who made every breakfast a fun one :)

thank you to the marine crew on the ferry who made all the boat rides fun, and allowed me to be distracted from my awful boat sickness. shoutouts to jake, ryan, darren and most of all kamoa, who went above and beyond to make sure i had one of the best trips ever.

and i want to thank the flora and fauna itself - thank you for giving me an amazing two week trip and sharing yourself with me. to swim with a manta ray in summer, to float face to face with a pufferfish, to swim beside a turtle, to sit on a tree and watch the sunset, to climb a rock to read upon are all blessings and i’m lucky i got to experience them on fitzroy island.

this is somewhere everyone should go before the end of their life

Positives - FISH (Fitzroy Island Sports Hub) offered excellent experiences
Some of the staff (not all) were very friendly and helpful
The Zephyr restaurant had excellent food and service. The Foxy Bar food was good (although not much variety after 7 days). The breakfast food was also good.
Negatives - General maintenance is not up to scratch, both in the rooms and across the resort. The common areas remained messy and unclean with many places in disrepair. The walkways had loose decking, the pool bar was left with dirty glasses for 2 or 3 days, and the area surrounding was left dirty (only one morning did it look like someone had cleaned the floors). Our room was only serviced once in 7 days. The bathroom had cracked tiles, water pressure was very low, doors and drawers were misaligned, towels were dirt stained and the air con was faulty.
Customer service was not great. After arriving at 1230ish, we were unable to check in until 330pm- the reception staff didn't really show any concern and seemed irritated when we asked for pool towels so we could swim.
It was evident some of the staff were just trying to get through the day and not too concerned about the guests.
One night at Foxy Bar we went to order cocktails at 8pm but were told they had finished making cocktails. The FISH staff were probably the best but very understaffed so were a bit short and rushed when dealing with guests.
Overall these things in isolation might be minor but adding them all up resulted in a not-so-great experience as a guest and not what you'd expect from a 4-star resort.
All this aside, the island itself is definitely worth a visit.

I stayed for one night in the island suite room $400 per night clean but there were no coffee capsules even though there was a machine. I noticed that there is no longer any cleaning in the resort, the pool is deteriorating, the toilets near the reception are very dirty without soap and the trash cans are full. I did not see anyone cleaning the resort. The scenery is beautiful but it is also dirty at Foxy restaurant.

Lovely day out on Beautiful Fitzroy island Did the half day tour leaving Cairns at 1045 and returning 3pm.Fitzroy island is beautiful and pristine,there’s lots of little walks you can do and there is a turtle conservatory.Nudie beach(it’s not a nudist beach)was divine,enjoyed a swim in crystal clear water.Lots of people were snorkeling which looked fun.Our glass bottom boat tour was cancelled due to poor conditions but they took us for a 30min boat trip around the island which was nice.I would have loved to had longer on the island but we were catching a late afternoon flight back home and this trip fitted our schedule well.A very big thank youto the wonderful staff who were so kind and helpful to my Mum who is nearly 90,even helping me get her off the glass bottom boat and up the sand.We really appreciated it.A very enjoyable day.Thank you

Great afternoon at Nudey Beach We took the last ferry of the day at 1:30, I would recommend to take an earlier one. 40 minutes there and back back eat up slot of time. The last ferry leaves at 5 so you don’t get a lot of time to explore. I highly recommend making the trek through the rocky trail to Nudey Beach. It’s beautiful trail through the forest. The ferry itself it’s nothing fancy but the staff was very polite and friendly.

Poorly managed beautiful island. The upper deck seats were wet and when i asked for a towel to wipe the female crew member slammed the door on my face. the island bathrooms were smelly and unclean. the cafe did not have proper food at 8 am the shop did not have insect repellent every where wet and dead leaves debris. Great location and amazing views. We stayed here as part of our visit to Australia. We took a ferry to get to the resort. It definetly has amazing views. They have activities like snorkeling, turtle talks and a couple of others but not a whole lot. They do not have any teen activities like pool tables or ping pong tables. The pool is a decent size. The pool bar stops serving drinks at 4:00pm or 4:30 pm … like what ????? Because folks literally get to the pool at like 3 or 4pm after being at the beach … so that was a bummer. They have beautiful beach spots .. do try the nudey beach it’s an amazing view .. has nothing to do with nudes .. quite safe for kids and families. The resort also has two a great hike to the summit and light house and also to the secret garden.
The rooms are big and comfortable. Most of the suites have stoves, ovens, fridges and cutlery. But the rooms have not been taken care of broken titles, wear and tear on the cabinets.. broken decor. It would have been a better experince without these issues.
Also they have only 2 restaurants on the premises and both of them are not great. Zephyr is fancy dining and expensive. Foxy is causal but food is not that great.
Overall I would still come again but I would plan differently. Possibly done more off the island an activities and possible got my own food options.

Also we have stayed at many resorts I would rate the service and hospitality of this resort possibly the lowest. The staff are just not happy and joyful and don’t really make you feel happy to be there. They are flat toned and very much yes/no/ok kind of personalities
We had mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary but there was no wishes or special anything as a service!

Huge shoutout to the staff at the resort and ferry for helping me after I was stung my an irukandji jellyfish on Christmas day. It was a scary and excruciating experience, but the knowledge and professionalism shown by the staff helped me to get through it. The island was also a great place and we got to see so many fish when swimming at the beach. Food at the bar/restaurant were also tasty and worth the money.

Definitely would recommend people to visit and enjoy the island, but would advise to accept the stinger suit when hiring their snorkelling equipment.

The only reason I gave it one star is because of the woman with the nose ring in the swimsuit rental shop. She acted superior, treating all customers like slaves, which disgusted me. She claimed to be a resort employee (I would have raised my score if she wasn't). While the other staff were all nice, she was a complete rotten apple and dragged down the entire resort.

FI Ferry Transfers My review is specifically on the ferry transfers that we booked.

It was quick and easy and the convenience of the services made it suitable for our last minute decision to visit the island for the day.

Easy onboarding, airconditioned and a pleasant journey getting over.

I'd say they could improve on the return journeys (especially last service) and have allocated seating to make more comfortable.

The inside of the ferrys could be updated to be more modern and look more upkept.

Shabby resort, pretty island Whilst the island itself is very pretty and not too far from Cairns by ferry, it’s very run down. The resort is dated and shabby and provides little in the way of modernity and luxury. The decor is very dated and shabby. The upholstery on the seating areas is positively filthy and the toilets smell strongly of urine. We only we only stayed one day but I’d be extremely disappointed if I had been staying here longer. By contrast, I stayed on Green island resort many years ago and it was superb. The resort here in Fitzroy was barely even clean.

Disappointed The island is beautiful. We are a family of 4 from FNQ who waited all year for our holiday. We are very disappointed with the resort. We are currently staying for 5 nights in a bungalow. The door barely shuts, the kitchen is falling apart, we had to ask 3 times for a blanket (and then had to go to receptionto at night to get one because they never came), the air con is leaking on our bed, we had to ask for the bbq that we paid for, the van kept breaking down so it was a hassle to get our bags to our room, there are only utensils for 3 people, and the hot water runs out very quickly.
The resort is super run down. Staff are very reluctant to help and after some rain in the middle of wet season, the pool side bar is not open even though it is under cover, and even when it is open it shuts at 4pm. It is the only bar in the resortfir guests only, other than foxys where day trippers flock. The website asks people to bring water bottles to refil, but foxys is the only point where you can. There are no activities for kids run by the resort despite the website advertising kids club/activities. Whe we asked if there were any activities as per the website, staff laughed and basically told us good luck. The general store has nothing worth buying and what is there is outrageously priced. We still have 2 nights on the island and are very unhappy with our stay.

Amazing place to stay This is a fantastic place to stay for a tropical getaway. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable about all areas of the resort. The food at both dining outlets is excellent. The public areas and our room were above standard in cleanliness—staying in a beachfront cabin is a must, as it offers a beautiful room with stunning views. The boat transfers were easy, and the scenery was amazing. We enjoyed our second private dinner, and the food was delicious. Olivia provided outstanding service; her knowledge and personality make her perfect for a customer service role.

Do not come to Cairns without a stay at Fitzroy Island Resort (Eco Accredited), well worth the money for staying around a 7th wonder of the world!

A very pleasant mini-holiday on Fitzroy Island We had an exceptionally pleasant stay on Fitzroy Island with a beautiful and clean room, delicious food at Zephy Restaurant and at Foxy's Bar, great walks and swims. The snorkelling tour was lovely, and the staff throughout the resort simply outstanding. Thank you.

3 night stay Very pleased with the resort. Seemless interaction between activities, restaurants, front desk. Zephyrs restaurant is simply outstanding, very good service and amazing food. The Island suite was better than expected with full cooking facilities.

Great Island Experience close to Cairns Great snorkelling and beautiful walks up to a lookout that takes in the amazing surrounding islands and the Great Barrier Reef.

A fine stay Friendly staff and easy check in process, spacious rooms, and great location. But the beds weren’t the comfiest, the pool needed a clean, the swim up bar closed very early, and there was a weird stench wafting through the resort every now and then. The price was quite reasonable though. Overall it was a fine stay.

Great location, not far from Cairns but room for improvement. This was our first holiday to an island resort. We really enjoyed the walks and bushy surroundings and the view from the lighthouse and summit was worth it. Staff were pleasant. The buildings themselves at the resort have a bit of a run-down feeling though. Room was ok however bed was terrible, could feel the springs poking through the mattress. Food at Foxys Cafe was average and overpriced considering the quality. following 1 and a half days of noisy construction works we couldn't wait to leave and ended up departing on an earlier ferry than originally planned.

great walking and beach exploring - lots of photo opportunities. If walking to the summit, take water, wear a hat and sunscreen and if you find a stick, pick it up, just in case you see a snake part way through and it scares you the rest of the walk - haha
small outdoor pool nice but it isn't heated so be mindful if visiting in winter.
I found alcohol and food a bit expensive for what it is-though I know logistics of goods delivery to the island are a consideration.
Wifi wasn't the best so bring a book, a pack of cards and hit pause on life!
If you have an opportunity to do the turtle tour while you're there-don't miss it as you get close to the turtles they're breeding.
A lovely relaxing island stay that feels further away than it is! Nice for couples, families and singles wanting to relax in nature.
Tips-bring snacks and alcohol and a nice beach chair to enjoy down at the beach.

Fitzroy Island is an absolute hidden gem, which I am glad I found. I had such an amazing time and was blown away by how friendly and cheerful every staff member was. However, It can’t be easy operating a hotel on a remote island and national park. I saw a few bad reviews which I think people need to be a bit more realistic around the value for money and the environment there visiting. It’s awesome to see your investing in renovating and keeping the treasure running :) I hope to be back again soon. Make sure to shout out to your amazing staff especially the Canadian lady at the bar :)

Fun family day out! We booked the morning session and it was perfect. Not too hot and not too chilly! Ferry itself was pretty relaxed and not super lengthy. The island was breathtaking! Beautiful walks/hikes & beaches! Definitely recommend :)

Bathroom had not been cleaned Whilst the location and value was great, the bathroom of our room had clearly not been cleaned as there were a variety of obvious stains in the toilet as well as a shower with other guests’ hair stuck to the walls. It is unfortunate that the bathroom (arguably the most important room to be properly cleaned) had been ignored since the previous guests had left. The rest of our trip was enjoyable, however the poor attempt at cleaning the room brought down the stay.
