Perfect for Family and Friends
Our group lesson is designed for a minimum of two people, making it the ultimate way to learn to kite with your friends or family members! It is a highly affordable and social option for those looking to share the thrill of mastering a new sport together. 🏄♂️
Located in the Flat Waters of Yorkeys Knob
Our group lessons take place in the ultra-flat waters of Yorkeys Knob, Cairns. These pristine, shallow conditions are perfect for group learning, offering a safe and supportive environment. This introductory lesson gives you a fantastic start to kitesurfing, covering the first half of our comprehensive course.
Once you complete your first three-hour lesson, you will be hooked and ready for the next step! This lesson can also be booked for your second day when you are ready to get on the board and ride. With our qualified instructors, you will receive personalised guidance to master essential skills in a fun group setting. Come and give it a go with us at kiteboarding Cairns! 🤙
How Many Lessons Should I Take?
Everyone learns at their own pace, but we highly recommend taking three lessons to become an independent kiteboarder. Once you reach this milestone, you will have the confidence and skills to practice safely on your own. 🪁
Becoming a competent kiteboarder is an incredibly rewarding journey. The key is patience and enjoying every moment on the water. Here is what you can expect from your first three lessons with us:
Lesson 1: Kite Control
This session is all about mastering kite control. These kites are powerful, so it is vital to gain the skills to ensure you control the kite, rather than the kite controlling you.
- Location Analysis
- Wind effects, direction, and speed
- The wind window
- Kite setup
- Emergency release systems
- Basic kite piloting skills
- Launching and landing the kite from the water
- Launching and landing the kite from the beach
- Emergency self-landing on the beach
- Simulated self-rescue on the beach
Lesson 2: Body Dragging
- First body drag and self-rescue
- Body dragging downwind
- Directional body dragging
- Directional body dragging using the board as a keel
- Handling the board while holding the kite
- Retrieving the board from upwind using directional body dragging
Lesson 3: Water Starts
- Water start theory
- Using a figure-of-eight motion to generate power
- Your very first water start
- Riding downwind for 50 metres
- Riding while maintaining an edge
- Riding in both directions
Please note that this is a guide, and everyone progresses differently. Some fast learners achieve everything in two lessons, while others may take a little longer. The most important thing is to enjoy learning in a safe, supportive, and fun environment! 😊
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Sometimes the weather is not favourable for kitesurfing. If this is the case, the lesson will be rescheduled for another day convenient for the student and Pacific Watersports.

Saw quite a few turtles and explored Double Island and some of its hidden treasures.
Would definitely recommend the tour! Will do it again!
What more could we ask for on our morning kayak out from palm cove ??
We actually got a whole lot more... with an incredible local guide "Luke" who was very knowledgeable on the area and an avid adventurer who made this a very memorable day exploring.
100% do it 👌
We saw the sunrise & turtles
Can't wait to take my daughter there. Magical!
Cheers Max
The kayak is not too strenuous, and our guide set a friendly pace. I took my dad, who is in his 70s, in a tandem kayak and we had a great time.
I would highly recommend.
Both Luke and Andy are so lovely and welcoming – when I’m back, I’ll definitely be booking this and trying out their other tours and activities too!
Thanks so much, guys!

Was expecting a great tour ,
We got an amazing tour to double island ,
Luke is just phenomenal when it came to giving us a tour around double island ,
My son and my self thoroughly enjoy the morning canoeing the open sea with breath taking views ,
Thank you Luke for giving us an amazing tour and memories that will last a lifetime 💫💫💫💫💫
I should mention I’m the wrong side of 75 so don’t let age put you off
We didn't see much wildlife, but that's not the company's fault. Still enjoyed what we did see.
It can be a bit tricky as you go as a group, so if you have someone who isn’t as capable/quick on the water, you do spend a bit of time waiting. I feel like our trip was cut short because of this - we ended up back at the shore an hour before we were initially told the tour would finish and didn’t go as far as we initially planned.
Andy also took us to the Double Island and he told us a lot of local stories.
Not a high adrenaline activity so very suitable for families.
Highly recommend this half day activity.
