Day 1: From Broome to the Mitchell Plateau
Your adventure begins in Broome, where you’ll board a scenic flight that sweeps you along the rugged Kimberley coastline, offering breathtaking aerial views of turquoise waters, untouched beaches, and striking red cliffs. As you land on the remote Mitchell Plateau, the ancient land welcomes you with its raw beauty.
Upon arrival, our Custodian for Country guides will welcome you with a traditional Muntha Ceremony (Welcome to Country Ceremony). As you board our air-conditioned 4WD, your hosts will introduce you to the cultural and historical significance of the area, sharing stories and traditions passed down through generations.
The day unfolds with a visit to the King Edward River, home to stunning ancient rock art sites that offer a window into thousands of years of Aboriginal culture. Relax by the river, take a refreshing swim, and soak in the serenity of this extraordinary place.
As the sun sets, retreat to the luxurious wilderness lodge where a gourmet three-course dinner awaits. Under a canopy of stars, indulge in the magic of Kimberley nights with an unforgettable stargazing experience.
Day 2: Mitchell Falls and Punamii-Unpuu Walking Trail
After a delicious breakfast among the bush, embark on a short scenic drive to begin the day’s adventures. A thrilling helicopter flight whisks you to the top of the spectacular Mitchell Falls (Punamii-Uunpuu), where you’ll be able to marvel at this iconic four-tiered waterfall from above.
From here, a 4.5 kilometer hike along the Punmii-Unpuu Walking Trail takes you through lush landscapes and ancient rock formations. Pause to cool off in crystal-clear natural pools and explore trails rich with bush tucker and rock art that reveal the deep connection between the land and its traditional owners.
Returning to the accommodation for a brief refresh and then onto a scenic flight to the UNESCO World Heritage listed Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles), where sunset drinks amidst the stunning landscape set the stage for another evening of indulgence and relaxation at a wilderness lodge.
Days 3 & 4: Immersing in the Bungle Bungle Range
Over the next two days, dive deep into the majesty of the Bungle Bungle Range with expert local Aboriginal guides who bring the landscape to life with their knowledge and stories.
Explore the towering walls of Echidna Chasm, wander through the natural beauty of Mini Palms, and uncover the secrets of Stonehenge and the Bloodwoods. The southern massif offers treasures like Cathedral Gorge, where the acoustics of the natural amphitheater are simply mesmerizing. Enjoy panoramic views from Piccaninny Lookout, marvel at the beehive domes, and take a Bush Botanical Walk to learn about the unique flora of this ancient land. You’ll learn the medicinal properties of the surrounding bush, where to find bush tucker and more! All the while being immersed in the ancient dreaming of the area and its cultural and geological histories.
Each evening, toast the day’s adventures with sunset drinks, reflecting on the awe-inspiring beauty of the Kimberley under a canvas of vibrant skies. A gourmet dinner completes the experience, leaving you relaxed and ready for the next day’s discoveries.

Highly recommend you take a kingfisher tour with Bec.
Kingfisher Tours, a local community business, conducted the ground component of the trip, which was a two kilometre walk to Cathedral Gorge. We were very lucky to have Rebecca, from the local indigenous community, as our guide on the walk. She was amazing, able to provide insights into the area from her mob’s perspective and their learnings of having lived in that Country for millennia. Our small group really enjoyed her stories, and sense of humour. She also ensured that we had frequent breaks and water stops during the walk, as the temperature was around 43°C, as well as driving the vehicle.
All our group found this to be a fantastic trip and highly recommend Kingfisher Tours.
Note that if you do this walk it is considered to be a high risk walk, not because of the territory but because of the absence of water and the high temperature. There are a few places where you need to step up on rocks but somebody that is mostly mobile should be able to cope.
We recommend Kingfisher tours for their tours with traditional guides to anyone who is travelling to the Kimberley’s this year
Thanks Kingfisher!!
Told over and over that the refund will be paid but still no refund. Maybe they think $2700.00 is not worth us worrying about?
These people are totally dishonest and should be avoided.
We are going to have to take legal action to get our money back.
Once we were inside the Cathedral Gorge space and waterway. Bec made us all sit down, put our phones down and become silent as we soaked in the serenity and sacredness of the place. She then sang us a song in local language which I think was welcoming us onto this part of the country as well as honoring her ancestors. It was hauntingly beautiful with the stunning acoustics of the space.
From here we made our way over to Echidna Chasm, which is at the other end of the park. It felt like we were entering ‘Jurassic Park’ as we made our way along the dry river bed, with majestic red rocks and massive palm trees towering over us as we entered the Echidna Chasm. Bec stopping and telling us stories along the way, she sang here too.
Make sure you take plenty of water, sunscreen, camera, good hat and hiking shoes/boots, sense of adventure to soak it all in!
I highly recommend Kingfisher Tours on their Bungles Day Trek which included Cathedral Gorge and Echidna Chasm.
Bec was a wealth of knowledge and experience with a bit of humour thrown in.
Bec, a local Gija woman, welcomed us with morning tea, including her freshly baked delicious damper. We then drove with her for approx 15mins to the Bungle Bungles. Her tour was incredible. Not only did we learn about the rock formations, but also her culture, customs, ceremonies & history. When Bec sang a Welcome to Country for us at Cathedral Gorge, another 2 tour groups nearby suddenly fell silent & listened. They like us were transcended to another world. We were certainly fortunate to have Bec from Kingfisher Tours as our guide through The Bungle Bungles. The other tour groups were lucky to be nearby & enjoy Bec's Welcome.
We had a fantastic time made more magical by our guide Bec. She was gracious, funny, informative, professional and kind. My mobility is not great but she didn’t rush us and we took regular stops.
What made the visit unforgetable was to be able to spend the day trecking and 4WD driving with our guides Bek and her grandson Dray, local aboriginal people. They were so kind, so open to questions, so knowledgable about the area and so happy to answer all those questions you might have ever wanted to ask about life for aboriginal people in the remote WA Top End.
THANK YOU Bek, Dray & Kingfisher Tours owner Rosie
Rosie was fantastic with arranging this trip and was flexible with alterations when our flight home changed. Thanks for a magical experience Kingfisher Tours!
Departed Kununurra on an early morning flight to Mitchell Plateau.
The scenery was awe inspiring!
Arrived at Mitchell Plateau where we met our fantastic guides Kolya aka LT and Treylin aka Dr Dre- Their knowledge of the area was very Informative. LT & Dr Dre has a great sense of humour too!
Then we had a remarkable helicopter flight over the Mitchell Falls - what an experience!! Followed by a leisurely 2.5 hour trek - from the top of the Mitchell and Big Mertens Falls - and swimming at the bottom of Little Mertens Falls - wonderfully refreshing!!!
Reluctantly departing we flew Back to Kununurra at 'Golden hour' viewing scenery of gorges, rivers and the Cockburn Ranges! Arriving back in Kununurra at sunset!!
Thanks Zac the pilot for the smooth flights!
Highly recommend Kingfisher Tours
She went way beyond her role by sharing some of her wonderful memories.
Highly recommend this tour combined with Kimberley air
Not only one but both my tours with this company were cancelled. I had to follow up with this company every time, not once did I receive a call back as stated by them. Seems as though they might need a lot more admin assistance as it was hard enough to get a hold of someone on the phone, even showed up at their office during office hours but it was closed. Rosie who I dealt with was very lovely and did provide a complementary drink bottle for the inconvenience, but it still was very frustrating to deal with this company. I wish I would have just gotten a refund after my tours were cancelled instead of waiting on them to “help” reschedule a time for me.
David and Sandy
Thanks Rosie and team for a very movable day on my road trip!
Mikela
You want to be fairly fit for the walk but luckily we had an amazing crew of only 9pax! Highly recommend kingfisher tours! Thanks again, Gavin & Alex
