I had high expectations for the 2-day wilderness navigation course and was not disappointed. It all clicked eventually and has given me much more confidence about going into the bush, especially on less-travelled or longer tracks. If you have been wondering about doing something like this, you will not regret it! Great having Maddy leading it too as nav/bushcraft can get a bit blokey!

10/5 rating!! We had an amazing time on the Introductory Climbing Weekend course and met so many wonderful people in our group. Despite the mix of complete beginners and those with some gym experience, the ASM instructors tailored the sessions to suit everyone’s level and needs.
We learned a lot about knots, safety checks, and essential climbing skills. Over the two days, we visited two different locations (Mount York and Mount Piddington), which offered a great variety of cliffs—though I understand the exact locations may vary depending on the group and conditions.
A big thank you to our instructors—Liam, Pedro, David and Will —for such fun, engaging, and thoughtful sessions. Highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to experience outdoor climbing with spectacular views!

A mate and I did a canyoning experience through Claustral Canyon with our instructor Liam. So much fun was had. It was our first time canyoning after putting it off for many years and the adventure was so great that we wish we started years ago. Beautiful scenery and just an epic adventure. Liam was outstanding, who really knew his stuff and ensured we got down the canyon and back up to the finish line in one piece with huge smiles still glued on our faces. A pleasure to have him as our instructor for the day and look forward to booking in our next adventure. Thanks again! ✊👌😃

Liam is an excellent coach and very professional. He fully met my needs for this private lesson, and the session was highly tailored to what I wanted to learn.
I was able to learn exactly what I needed in a very efficient way. I will very likely book more one-on-one private lessons in the future, as this is the fastest way for me to improve.

Had a terrific day of guided climbing with Pedro, who planned the location and routes based on what I asked for (so didn't try to squeeze me into a cookie cutter plan or anything like that), and his extensive experience in the Blue Mountains. Did the combined abseiling course over the weekend with Liam. He’s one of the best instructors I’ve ever done a course with - he was professional, calm, diligent, well spoken and clear in his instructions and feedback. I felt like my safety and my education were his top priorities for the entire duration of the course and I came away feeling confident in my own abilities as a result.

I had an incredible time on the Learn to Lead Trad course. Pedro was an excellent guide, a great teacher and is clearly very passionate about climbing. He explained the technical and safety aspects very clearly and went into lots of useful detail around climbing strategy and harness and gear organisation. I appreciated the bespoke nature of the course which was tailored based on my ability and goals. I managed to lead a few lines at piddo including an epic finish on the flake crack (thanks for the encourage on the crux!) as well a run through sweet dreams to practice both trad and multi pitch technique. I also felt like I learnt heaps about crack climbing technique. I'd recommend this course to anyone and shout out to Pedro for a great few days.

Private 2 day learn to lead course This is the second time we have been out with Seb Garlick who guides for ASM. We did a private 2 day learn to lead course and it was absolutely worth the money. Seb is extremely knowledgeable and can explain some complex processes in very simple ways so you can learn and implement them easily. He took us to some amazing locations and provided some of the best experiences we have had in the outdoors so far. We are booking with ASM again! My husband, 12 year old son and I did the ASM Two Day Intro to Rock Climbing Course and absolutely loved it. We were taught important safety skills, and climbing technique. My son is great at indoor climbing, so it was great for him to learn the differences. He was challenged more than the rest of us, as he sailed through the early climbs. The amazing guides (thanks Liam and Pedro) were able to set up intermediate climbs for him, and some of the other more adventurous students, as we kept to the more basic climbs.I definitely struggled the most - I was unexpectedly scared - both of the height and the rocks. The guides were amazing - very calm, let me recover and gently challenged me to get back on the rock. I was so proud as I successfully a rock face each day - something I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to do.
The remainder of the group all did 10 or so climbs a day. The locations were spectacular, the equipment top notch and the lunch was just delicious. But the best part was the social aspect - getting to know the guides and the other climbers. We are booking another weekend now!

Awesome, worth the money and fun! I did a learn to lead sport climb 2 day course.Liam my guide was very good. Polite and knowledgeable, he taught us well which is not easy for everyone. He had patience but also knew how to speak to less experienced participants. I would definitely recommend ASM to anyone who wants to experience the blue mountains climbing scene.
Not recommended for those with a fear of heights ;)
They have lots of courses and I’m sure they’re all as amazing as the one I did.
They provide all gear and it’s very safe.

Father and Son experience This was a great father and son experience. I am 56 years old and was feeling perhaps I am passed this but it was within my limits. There were a few occasions where I had experienced some fear factor especially in the canyoning obstacles. Our guide (Rob) was easy to get along with, experienced and knowledgeable. Family rock climbing - absolute beginner We spent a day with Liam from ASM rock climbing in Medlow Bath. After meeting at the ASM office in Katoomba to get fitted out, we then met Liam again in MB and parked our car, and walked down a spectacular path to the cliffs. Liam taught us all the safety rules, checked our equipment, set up the top belay rope and then we were off. He was encouraging, kind, and good-humoured, even though two of us were pretty hopeless. The other two made it to the top of the climb more than once. Liam made sure we were safe at all times. We were able to try several different routes, and it was good to challenge ourselves, in such a beautiful location. Liam was great to deal with, and clearly loves climbing and the mountains. I did the abseiling and canyoning with my boyfriend and we had the absolute best time! We had such a nice bloke as the instructor who made the day so much fun! He even had a lunch for me which is often difficult due to food allergies (gluten, eggs, nuts). He constantly did all safety checks which helped us to feel super safe as we were abseiling! Definitely will be doing again and 100% recommend :)

I just took my two kids (15 and 12) on a four day mountaineering course with Pedro from ASM.
We had the most amazing time, conquered our fears and learned some awesome new skills climbing, abseiling and hiking.

Amazing Abseiling Experience at ASM! Thanks Liam! We had a fantastic experience at the Australian School of Mountaineering! I took my son there to introduce him to abseiling before his school camp. Despite his fear of heights, our instructor Liam planned a thoughtful program that eased him into it.Initially hesitant, my son not only completed the first level but also confidently repeated the higher levels several times! Thanks to Liam's patient guidance, he left feeling confident and eager to show off his new skills.

We recently embarked on a one-day private guided climbing adventure with the Australian School of Mountaineering, and it was an experience that surpassed all expectations. From start to finish, every aspect of our day was great.

Not being the most advanced climbers, it was great to be put at ease and get to tackle beginner routes.

Do it!! I did a day trip canyoning in the beautiful Empress Canyon. An amazing experience and a great way to take in the beauty of this area. I took part in the small group rock climbing course. I wanted to learn the basics of top roping and all the safety checks and rules. It was an amazing day and the instructors were fantastic. Our group had people who had done some climbing and some who had never climbed before. The instructors were so encouraging and motivated all of us, getting the best climbs out of us. I have already recommended the company to friends, highly recommend it! Also they provided a really tasty lunch for us. And the views were incredible!

Last weekend we completed the Introduction to Rock Climbing course with ASM and it was awesome. Rob, Sammi and Jimmy are incredibly talented, cool and competent guides. They struck the perfect balance in challenges us, helping us with our technique and all the while making sure we felt safe. It was the best weekend. The landscape was so beautiful as well. So sore at the end of it and feeling so accomplished! We highly recommend this course to anyone who has bouldered or climbed indoors and was thinking about trying outdoors, or to anyone who just wants a great time.

Private Abseiling Instructional Weekend We did a private instructional abseiling course, which was just amazing. The ASM office managed to accomodate our timing restrictions and went so far as to move staff around so that we could have Josiah for the whole weekend. Josiah was a brilliant instructor, breaking down complex tasks and concepts to make our learning fun and rewarding. He tailored our progress through the course to match our learning speed and styles. We learned so much more in two days than we had thought possible (even despite the inclement weather) and are looking forward to developing the skills we have been given and putting them into practice. Had an epic day out yesterday abseiling and canyoning (empress falls) with Mike and Mika (not sure about the spelling ????) from the start they instilled a calm confidence and at no point did we feel unsafe at all. My partner who was hesitant to say the least, did things she thought she never would and is now talking about going back to do serendipity! The only reason I'm giving a 3star review is because the owner of the company knew the van door was dodgy and didn't get it fixed- the door wouldn't shut! So we all had to drive ourselves to the various spots on our tour.

AWesome day out and intro to abseiling. We booked a day of private abseiling. Lorrine was fastastic and knowledgable guide. Her interactions with our teenage crew fun and respectful. The bush was beautiful as ever and lunch provided was excellent and filled teenagers. Kids talked abotu ht eday al the way home.read moreread less

I Just completed the 2-day abseiling course at the Australian School of Mountaineering with Lewis and Lauren, This course deserves a solid 5-star rating!
The course itself was well-structured and covered all the essential aspects of abseiling. Whether you're a complete beginner or have some experience, the instructors tailored their guidance to suit each individual's skill level. They created a supportive and encouraging atmosphere that boosted everyone's confidence.
The practical hands-on experience was the highlight of the course. We had the opportunity to tackle various abseiling challenges under the guidance of Lewis and Lauren. It was thrilling, and I felt safe throughout thanks to their constant feedback.
Not only did I gain valuable abseiling skills, made new friends, but I also left with a newfound appreciation for the beauty of the Australian wilderness. The course location was stunning, and Lewis and Lauren shared their passion for the outdoors, making the experience even more enriching.
Overall, I can't recommend the Australian School of Mountaineering's abseiling course enough. Lewis and Lauren are fantastic instructors who genuinely care about their students' success and safety. This was our first time abseiling and canyoning and we were very well looked after and trained each step of the way. It was the best thing ever! We had David as our guide and he made the day fantastic!! It was even more awesome as it was just us 3 in the group. Very fun and intimate. What a great adventure we had! We enjoyed the lunch, the views, Davids patience, general bush knowledge and great human facts. We could have sat and talked with him for hours.
The location was beautiful, loved Juggler Canyon and we made it back by 4pm as David said we would, and we slept so well that night! Great memories, we will be back.
