ITINERARY
Day 1 | Adelaide to Mount Remarkable National Park
We leave Adelaide early and begin our coast to coast adventure, travelling north through regional South Australia towards the Yorke Peninsula.
Our first stop is Wallaroo, where there is time to stretch the legs and grab a coffee before continuing through coastal towns to Port Germein, home to one of Australia’s longest timber jetties.
By late afternoon, we arrive at Mount Remarkable National Park, a hidden gem in the Southern Flinders Ranges. Rugged peaks, ancient river red gums and abundant wildlife make this a spectacular introduction to outback South Australia.
One of those places that quietly exceeds every expectation.
After setting up camp at Mambray Creek, we head out on a short bushwalk to experience the park before gathering around our first camp dinner together.
As the sun sets, the group begins to settle into life on the road, sharing stories before rolling out our swags beneath a sky filled with stars.
Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Mambray Creek Campground
Meals Included: Dinner
Distance Travelled: Approx. 320 km
Day 2 | Mount Remarkable to the Eyre Peninsula
We wake to the sounds of the bush before setting out on the Davey’s Gully Hike, an easy morning walk through native bushland with sweeping views across Spencer Gulf and the surrounding ranges.
From here, we continue west to the Eyre Peninsula, stopping in Kimba, a welcoming outback town known for its giant silo artwork and strong community spirit. We visit Workshop26, a former tractor shed transformed into a creative community space showcasing local art, handmade products and stories from the people who call this region home.
Lunch is prepared by volunteers from the Kimba Hospital Auxiliary and Royal Flying Doctor Service support crew, with every meal helping support vital services in remote South Australia.
” A simple lunch that directly supports the local community.”
As we reach the Eyre Peninsula, rolling farmland gives way to towering sand dunes, rugged coastline and fresh ocean air.
By late afternoon, we arrive at Coodlie Park Farm Retreat, an off grid eco camp built by Untamed Escapes founders Craig and Cathy. Tonight, we settle in for dinner before those interested can join an optional stargazing experience beneath some of Australia’s darkest skies.
This is where the outback begins to slow you down.
Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Coodlie Park Farm Retreat
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Distance Travelled: Approx. 450 km
Day 3 | Baird Bay to Penong
We start early for one of the most memorable experiences of the trip, the optional Baird Bay sea lion and dolphin swim.
Heading out by boat, we have the chance to swim with wild Australian sea lions and bottlenose dolphins in their natural environment. Curious sea lions often dart and play around the group while dolphins cruise through the bay nearby. There is no feeding or staged interaction, just genuine wildlife encounters on their terms.
” Usually the moment people are still talking about long after the trip ends.”
For those not joining the swim, the morning is free to relax around Baird Bay before we meet up again for lunch.
In the afternoon, we head to Streaky Bay Surf School for a two hour surf lesson. Whether it is your first time on a board or you are looking to improve your skills, local instructors will have you riding waves in one of South Australia’s most beautiful surf locations. If surfing is not for you, there is time to relax on the beach or enjoy the coastline instead.
” Not a bad place to spend an afternoon on the Eyre Peninsula.”
By evening, we arrive in Penong, where we settle into camp, share dinner and swap stories from another incredible day on the coast.
Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Penong Caravan Park
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch
Distance Travelled: Approx. 400 km
Day 4 | Nullarbor Plain
Today, we begin one of Australia’s great road trips, crossing the vast Nullarbor Plain. Long straight roads, endless horizons and wide open skies make the journey as memorable as the destinations themselves.
Along the way, we stop for photos at the famous outback road signs before reaching the spectacular Bunda Cliffs, where the limestone plateau drops dramatically into the Southern Ocean. Standing on the edge, with waves crashing far below, is a reminder of just how vast and wild this coastline really is.
“One of the most dramatic coastal views anywhere in Australia.”
After a stop at the iconic Nullarbor Roadhouse, we cross into Western Australia and continue to our most remote camp of the trip.
Tonight, we experience authentic outback bush camping beneath some of the darkest skies in the world. With no reception, no crowds and nothing but the sounds of nature, it is a night many travellers never forget.
Accommodation: Bush camping on the Nullarbor (no facilities)
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner
Distance Travelled: Approx. 600 km
Day 5 | Nullarbor to Cape Le Grand National Park
This morning, we continue west along the famous 90 Mile Straight, the longest straight stretch of road in Australia.
The drive itself becomes part of the experience out here. Roadhouses appear out of nowhere, old stories from the Nullarbor come to life through the guide, and the landscapes slowly begin to shift once again.
We stop through Balladonia and Norseman before the red dirt finally gives way to bright white beaches and impossibly blue water as we approach Esperance.
By afternoon, we arrive at Cape Le Grand National Park, one of the most beautiful coastal regions in Australia.
“ Kangaroos on white sand, turquoise water and empty beaches, this is the side of Australia most travellers dream about.”
We set up camp at Lucky Bay, our home for the next two nights.
Distance travelled: Approximately 800 km
Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Lucky Bay Campground
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 6 | Cape Le Grand National Park
Today is all about slowing down and properly experiencing Cape Le Grand.
Those keen for a challenge can take on the hike up Frenchman Peak, a steep climb across granite slabs with huge views waiting at the top. Looking out across the Recherche Archipelago from the summit is one of the best rewards of the trip.
The rest of the day is left open to enjoy the national park properly. Some people spend hours swimming in the bays, others head off on walking trails or simply relax on the sand with nowhere else to be.
Cape Le Grand has a way of making people slow down. The beaches are unbelievably white, the water shifts between deep blue and turquoise, and even the kangaroos seem more relaxed here.
“ Most people could easily spend a week here and still not want to leave.”
There are no long drives today, no schedules to rush through and no shortage of incredible places to stop along the coast.
As the sun drops, we return to camp for another relaxed evening at Lucky Bay.
Accommodation: Swag camping at Lucky Bay
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Distance travelled: Just 10 minutes around the park
Day 7 | Cape Le Grand National Park to Stirling Ranges
We pack up camp and leave Esperance behind, stopping at Twilight Cove for one final swim or walk along the coast before turning inland.
The drive today takes us through changing landscapes, from open farmland to rugged mountain country, with a stop in Ravensthorpe along the way.
By late afternoon, we arrive in the Stirling Ranges, where sharp peaks rise straight from the bushland around us.
Tonight, we stay at a quiet private campground near Mt Trio. After a few big days on the coast, the change in scenery feels completely different again.
“ One of the best parts of this trip is how quickly the landscapes change from one day to the next.”
Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Mt Trio in the Stirling Ranges
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
Distance travelled: Approximately 500 km
Day 8 | Stirling Ranges & South West Coast
After breakfast, we head into the Porongurups for the hike to Castle Rock and the Granite Skywalk. The trail winds through towering forest before opening onto sweeping views across the surrounding ranges. For those brave enough, the suspended skywalk offers an unforgettable perspective.
From here, we continue to the coast and visit The Gap and Natural Bridge near Albany, where the powerful Southern Ocean crashes against the rugged granite cliffs.
Later, we make our way to Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks, two of Western Australia’s most beautiful beaches and the perfect place for a swim when conditions allow.
” This is the stretch of coastline that often surprises people the most.”
Towards evening, we enter the forests of the Walpole region to visit the famous Giant Tingle Tree, an ancient giant that has stood here for centuries.
Tonight, we settle into camp at Quinninup, surrounded by towering karri forest and another peaceful night beneath the trees.
Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Quinninup Eco Tourist Park
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
Distance travelled: Around 390 km
Day 9 | Quinninup to Margaret River
This morning, we visit the Capes Raptor Centre, one of Australia’s leading bird of prey rehabilitation centres. Going behind the scenes, we help support the care of injured and displaced raptors while learning more about eagles, hawks, owls and falcons from the passionate team caring for them.
“A hands on conservation experience that leaves a lasting impression.”
Later, we arrive in Margaret River, with free time to explore the town, enjoy lunch or browse its local galleries and boutique shops.
The afternoon is dedicated to discovering the region’s renowned food and wine scene, with visits to a selection of local producers. Depending on the day, we may stop at wineries, distilleries, chocolate makers or artisan cheese producers, each showcasing the flavours that make Margaret River famous.
By evening, we arrive at our campsite in the Margaret River region. Campsites vary depending on the season, but each offers a peaceful setting to relax with the group and enjoy one final night camping in Western Australia’s southwest.
Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Fair Harvest Permaculture Farm (or RAC Margaret River Nature Park)
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
Distance travelled: Around 240 km
Day 10 | Margaret River to Perth
We roll up the swags one last time before joining Wadandi custodian Josh “Koomal” Whiteland for a cultural experience through Country.
The morning includes bushwalking, stories of the six Noongar seasons, bush foods, native medicine and traditional fire lighting, before continuing underground into Ngilgi Cave. Hearing the didgeridoo echo through the cave is one of the quieter moments of the trip, but also one of the most memorable.
A powerful way to finish the journey across Western Australia.
Later, we stop in Busselton, where there is time for a walk along the famous 1.8 km jetty and a final coffee or snack before the drive back to Perth.
By the time we arrive that evening, most people are already swapping favourite moments from the trip and wondering how ten days managed to go so quickly.
Meals included: Breakfast
Distance travelled: Around 340 km

First of all the island is absolutely gorgeous, rich in wildlife, full of beautiful scenery and silent moments. But also due to the well planned tour provided by the company, everything was well organised, all meals provided and dietary requirements cared for, I was able to rent a sleeping bag directly from the company as well!
The overarching success of the tour was our incredibly knowledgable, personable and attentive guide Steve! Nothing was too much trouble for him, if our group wanted to make additional stops, to change the itinerary or to create new activities it wasn’t too much trouble!
Couldn’t recommend the tour anymore!
Our guide, Hannah, was fantastic; she shared her passion and knowledge with us.
The places are magnificent, and sleeping in swag is something unique.
Highly recommended!
We went to nice places, such as stokes Bay and emu Bay. Camping was fun and the equipment was clean.
I would reccomend to a friend
Brilliant company, loads of laughs, stunning views and wildlife!
Not forgetting Steve the tour guide who made everything so enjoyable 👌
One of the absolute highlights was spending the night in a swag, surrounded by wallabies and sleeping under a breathtaking star-filled sky. Falling asleep to the sounds of nature and waking up in the middle of untouched wilderness was a truly unique and grounding experience – something you simply don’t get on a standard tour.
A special thanks to Steve for his outstanding knowledge and for taking us to so many incredible places that truly showcased the diversity and beauty of Kangaroo Island.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience Kangaroo Island properly.
It was thoughtfully planned out fitting so much in to our 3 days
From herritage information to breathtaking views it was just a great experience for us both.
Highly recommend to anyone willing to see, feel and taste first hand what our country has to offer on the south coast Chris did a fantastic job thankyou.
Eli was a reliable, calm and knowledgeable guide and driver. He and assistant Bella were kind, competent, cheerful under all circumstances (days of rain, a problem with the bus door, tardy travellers). Typically we were on the road about 6 a.m. We covered such long distances on some days - I would never drive that far myself, and it was brilliant to visit places along the way.
A few of the many highlights: Whistling Caves near Streaky Bay sounded like an ogre roaring through the rock fissures; Cape le Grand National Park - a sea eagle over the headland and amazing lighting effects as the sun peeked through the rain-clouds over the turquoise sea; a family of emus in the sweet bushland of the southern Flinders Ranges; the granite peaks of Castle Rock in Porongorup National Park; a morning of learning how to propagate native cuttings for regeneration; meeting Josh Whiteland, Noongar cultural custodian, at Yalingup Caves, and hearing the music of his didgeridoo down in the heart of the caves.
I was glad to have brought my own hike tent, as there were several rainy nights. It would have been good to have a map of our itinerary.
A trip worth doing, and very good value for the price.
Where to start with all the many amazing things I saw during this tour? On several clear nights there were so many stars to see from the warmth of the swag without having to move more than my head. And the swag was very comfortable to sleep in - I was kinda dreading that part, completely unnecessary as it turned out. There were the camels that turned up for the sunrise at Kata Tjuta. The wild horses along the road. The countless kangaroos and emus we saw in the Flinders Ranges. The small snake at the Garden of Eden, during the King's Canyon Rim Walk which was a great hike all on its own. The vastness of the country we travelled through, when it seemed the flat plains would go on forever.
Eli was a fantastic guide. He was enthusiastic, friendly and very easy to talk to. Also very knowledgeable about the aboriginal cultures of the regions we travelled through. He pointed out so many animals and plants, with stories about their historic background as well as giving us a lot of current information. And he knew the best spots for watching sunsets as well as wild animals.
It was seriously the best group tour I ever took part in. The perfect mix of hikes, sightseeing and relaxing while being surrounded by stunning landscapes
Elliot our guide was knowledgeable, fun and worked tirelessly to get the best experience for all of us with a challenging agenda, thanks Elliot!!
Highly recommend this trip 👌
We had the opportunity to see what the real Australian outback looks like – wild nature, vast spaces and an atmosphere that cannot be compared to any other place.
I was very impressed by our guide. Elliott had incredible knowledge about the nature, history and culture of this place, and he was able to convey it in an interesting and accessible way. Thanks to him, we learned a lot of interesting facts, and the whole trip was not only an adventure but also a lesson. Importantly, he took care of every detail and made sure that everyone felt comfortable.
I did this as a solo traveller and it was perfect for meeting people, with a wide range of ages in the group. Highly recommend this tour!
Our lovely group enjoyed a full week of adventures and experiences well beyond what we expected. Elliott took care of everything, for 16 hours a day every day! Every extra request - from picking up souvenirs for people to extending certain parts of the trip was taken care of for us. We had the best spots for each sightseeing opportunity and got to see the best of every experience free from the usual crowds.
Thanks, Elliott, for giving us all the trip of a lifetime. I would do the tour, or any other tour, again in a heartbeat!
Every day brought new, breathtaking scenery and the experience was made so much more interesting by the very informative stories that Elliott had researched and shared on a range of subjects from Aboriginal culture, to colonial history, wildlife, geology and plants.
Our group included people ranging from 9 to their seventies and everyone was very well looked after and catered for. It all worked well because the entire group participated in camp set-up, cooking and pack down. The food was excellent and plentiful too.
I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to see iconic outback sights, and experience bush adventure off the beaten track, with a great balance of driving, bush walking and culture.
We got blessed with Eli as our tour guide. He was doing such a great job by managing several different jobs: driver, tour guide, chef. He knew all our names after the first day, made sure from the beginning that everyone felt comfortable. His inspiration and knowledge about the indigenous people is remarkable and that all at his age. He found the right balance between staying within the schedule, but also be spontaneous and relaxed.
I cannot thank him enough to make this tour unforgettable.
The trip was chock-a-block full of sunsets, sunrises, hikes, wildlife, swag sleeping under the stars & campfire’s with story telling and cracking laughter.
8 amazing days of stunning scenery & building a closer connection to both country & our tour family.
It’s an impossible task to name a singular highlight, but the deeply spiritual indigenous cultural tour with John in the Flinders Rangers will stay with us forever. Thank you Hannah & Untamed for an unforgettable experience… it far exceeded our expectations!
It fulfilled many dreams of a lifetime.
My wife and I had a really fun time.
Some improvements I would make:
1/ even though there was wine tasting advertised in the itinerary introduction there was no wine tasting. Several of us were waiting for it to happen when we were told it was time to leave. We wanted to buy wine so we and the locals lost out. We would have paid for tasting ourselves if we knew it was not included.
2. I would suggest having some tents available for couples or for those who find swags a little claustrophobic. I enjoyed the swag on the second night that was good weather but the first night was wet and I didn't like it.
3. The bus ride from Adelaide to Port Jervis and back was extremely uncomfortable for me. I don't usually get motion sickness but both times I was feeling queasy. Maybe the bus driver needs to drive to the conditions. Speed limit is a maximum not a literal instruction
4. The facilities at camp happiness are pretty filthy. Cobwebs, spiders and dust everywhere. The toilets smelt really bad.
the van that we rode in on KI was very dirty too until my wife cleaned it.
We travelled a bit over 4200 km, filled with adventure and camaraderie. We tackled together beautiful hikes, slept in swags (and some of us for a few nights decided to have the luxury in tents) which added a unique touch to the experience.
The diversity of Australia truly is something special. I was thinking the long drive through Nullarbor would be boring, but happen to discover a stunning beauty of the coast - The Great Australian Bight - with its dramatic cliffs and gorgeous ocean with the whales and when you think, further down, opposite them is Antarctica
Cape Le Grand NP - another place that I really enjoyed very much. The beaches are stunning. The whitest and finest sand in the world is in Lucky Bay where we were really "lucky" to spend 2 days. The water is crystal clear and dipping your legs in the freezing water after a long hike was so refreshing.. oh, those those little moments were the best!
In general, this trip was intense, a bit physically demanding, but the more time passes, the more we appreciate and like the experience.
This tour is solo-friendly as you are travelling with like-minded folk and Jack, our guide, was a natural at making everyone feel comfortable and welcome. Our group was well looked after by him whether that be in the variety of food and meals, the time taken to answer our questions and the numerous toilet stops! Jack has the right combination of fun and attentiveness. He has an engaging way of sharing his knowledge of Aboriginal culture and stories which set the scene for our walks beautifully.
This tour delivers a bucket list of memories at a comfortable and chilled pace. I had the best time and would highly recommend this tour.
Jack has a great respect for Aboriginal culture and stories, a respect for the land, a knowledge of geology and gives 110% to make sure his guests experience the magic and rawness of the Aussie outback and country in all its glory.
