Itinerary

Day 1: Perth – Geraldton

We leave the metropolitan city of Perth and head north. Our journey takes us via Lancelin to Cervantes, the entrance to Nambung National Park. The Pinnacles, which are among the most visited natural wonders in Western Australia, are located in a flat, almost surreal desert landscape. During a walk, thousands of bizarre limestone pillars, some up to five meters high, offer breathtaking photo opportunities. After a scenic coastal drive through Jurien Bay and Leeman, we reach Geraldton, the sunniest city in Western Australia. From Mount Scott, we get an overview of Geraldton and Grey’s Bay, and we visit a memorial to those lost on the sunken warship HMAS Sydney II. We end the day with a tour of the architecturally interesting St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in the city center.
Accommodation: Hospitality Motel, Geraldton

Day 2: Geraldton – Kalbarri (B)

This morning, we take a scenic flight over the Wallabi Islands in the Houtman Abrolhos Archipelago. In 1629, the Dutch trading ship Batavia was shipwrecked here, leading to a gruesome mutiny. Back on the mainland, we travel along the coastal road via Port Gregory into Kalbarri National Park. The rugged coastal formations are of stunning natural beauty. In the evening, we arrive at the peaceful town of Kalbarri.
Accommodation: Kalbarri Edge Resort, Kalbarri

Day 3: Kalbarri – Monkey Mia (Shark Bay) (B)

After breakfast, we return to Kalbarri National Park, this time for a breathtaking view down into the Murchison Gorge. Depending on the season, we may see the famous Western Australian wildflowers during our drive through the park and onward to the World Heritage area of Shark Bay. In the afternoon, we arrive in Monkey Mia, home of the famous dolphins that voluntarily swim to the beach almost every day of the year for feeding. After dinner, we enjoy an evening walk led by a local Aboriginal guide, who will share Dreamtime stories and play the didgeridoo under the brilliant starry sky of Western Australia.

Optional: Monkey Mia Sunset Cruise

Enjoy the stunning sights of the sky’s continual change of colours reflected off the sea during this relaxing 1.5-hour cruise. Purchase a drink from our fully licensed Ocean Lounge Bar, or bring your own (BYO permitted). A tranquil way to end the day.

Accommodation: Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort, Shark Bay

Day 4: Monkey Mia – Carnarvon (B)

In the morning, you have the chance to watch the dolphin feeding up close and learn fascinating details about these intelligent creatures. The Shark Bay Interpretive Centre in nearby Denham provides further information about this World Heritage area. Continuing our journey, we stop at the unique Shell Beach and then marvel at the world’s oldest living organisms — the stromatolites — at Hamelin Pool. Our drive takes us through remote Outback landscapes as we make our way to Carnarvon.
Accommodation: Hospitality Motel, Carnarvon

Day 5: Carnarvon – Coral Bay – Exmouth (B)

Today we enjoy a leisurely drive to Coral Bay, located at the southern end of the Ningaloo Reef. Experts claim the underwater world here is even more diverse than that of the Great Barrier Reef. The reef is very close to the beach and can easily be explored with flippers and a snorkel, or on a glass-bottom boat tour. The reef is home to a wide variety of marine life, including corals, rare sea stars, crabs, lobsters, and over 500 species of fish. In the afternoon, we continue north to Exmouth.
Accommodation: Mantarays Ningaloo Beach Resort, Exmouth

Day 6: Exmouth (B)

From Vlamingh Head Lighthouse, we enjoy an incredible view over the North West Cape, the Ningaloo Reef, and the towering antennas of the Harold E. Holt naval communication station. We take a hike through the Mandu Mandu Gorge in Cape Range National Park, where we keep an eye out for rare rock wallabies. In the afternoon, we relax at the picturesque and safe-to-swim Turquoise Bay and again enjoy the colorful, vibrant underwater world of the Ningaloo Marine Park. We return to our accommodation in Exmouth.
Accommodation: Mantarays Ningaloo Beach Resort, Exmouth

Day 7: Exmouth – Karijini National Park (B)

Today we travel northeast across the vast Pilbara region. In the language of the local Aboriginal people, “bilypara” means “dry” — a fitting description of this immense area, which is nearly twice the size of Germany and dominated by red desert and mountain ranges. Our accommodation lies in the heart of Karijini National Park, ensuring a tranquil and awe-inspiring atmosphere.
Accommodation: Karijini Eco Retreat, Karijini National Park

Day 8: Karijini National Park (B, L)

The rock formations in Western Australia’s second-largest national park are among the oldest on the planet, and its landscapes are among the most spectacular and colorful in all of Australia. The iron-rich highlands offer countless gorges with permanent waterholes and dramatic lookouts. The steep, eroded gorges and multicolored rock layers give this rugged region its unique magic. We hike to Fortescue Falls and Fern Pool, both with year-round water and great for swimming. We also visit Oxer Lookout, with its incredible view over four converging gorges.
Accommodation: Karijini Eco Retreat, Karijini National Park

Day 9: Karijini National Park – Port Hedland (B)

We begin the day by enjoying the serene atmosphere of the Eco Retreat. Eventually, we depart the iron ore region of Western Australia and head toward Port Hedland. With a bit of luck, we may see one of the impressive iron ore trains, which average 2 to 3 kilometers in length, arriving or departing from the town.
Accommodation: Hospitality Motel, Port Hedland

Day 10: Port Hedland – Broome (B)

Our journey continues north along the Great Northern Highway. We pass through the sparse and low-lying vegetation of the Great Sandy Desert. The entire northern coastline of Western Australia is lined with vast mangrove forests, but one striking exception is Eighty Mile Beach, where the white sands and turquoise waters invite you to relax or collect seashells. However, due to the presence of stingrays, stonefish, and sharks, it’s best to stay on shore. In the evening, we arrive in Broome, Australia’s pearl capital. The sun shines brightly here, and on certain nights, the moon creates the famous “Staircase to the Moon.” Our journey ends at the pre-booked hotel.
