Day 2: Perth – Bunbury (B)
In Shoalwater, we meet our experienced and qualified guide for today. A kayak tour is a unique and intimate way to explore Penguin Island and Seal Island. Get up close with sea lions, paddle past pelican colonies, and be enchanted by the rugged beauty of the islands. Sometimes we even spot dolphins! It’s a fun day, suitable for both beginners and experienced paddlers. After this adventure, we continue comfortably to Bunbury.
Accommodation: Bunbury Hotel Koombana Bay, Bunbury
Day 3: Bunbury – Margaret River (B)
Today, see, hear, and feel the presence of dolphins! On today’s tour, you’ll be accompanied by experienced and trained guides as you head out into the beautiful bay of Koombana Bay to spot dolphins. Once dolphins are sighted, you may enter the water to swim with the wild bottlenose dolphins in their natural environment. We then continue to Busselton, where we visit the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. Afterward, we admire the fascinating coastal section of the Canal Rocks.
Accommodation: Grande Escape Resort, Margaret River
Day 4: Margaret River – Pemberton (B/L)
After breakfast, we explore the region around Margaret River, one of Australia’s best-known wine regions, by bicycle. The area, with its Mediterranean climate and relaxed atmosphere, has in recent years become a hugely popular holiday destination, thanks to its wine and beautiful surf beaches. We will enjoy delicious wine tastings at renowned wineries. In the afternoon, we travel via Cave Road through beautiful forest areas to Cape Leeuwin, the southwesternmost point of Australia, where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet. The cape is known for its wild winter winds, called the “roaring forties” by locals. From here, no land lies westward until Africa or southward until Antarctica. We then transition from the Southern Ocean coastline and green pastures into the majestic Karri forests around Pemberton/Walpole.
Accommodation: Pemberton Hotel, Pemberton
Day 5: Pemberton – Albany (B)
Adventurous guests have the opportunity today to challenge their primal instincts and build confidence—climbing, swinging, grasping, and flying high and low among the majestic Karri trees. We then continue to Walpole. In the Valley of the Giants, you’ll find 300–400-year-old tree giants. Take a walk on the Tree Top Walk and marvel at these silent witnesses to a million-year-old past from a bird’s-eye view. In the afternoon, visit William Bay National Park, home to the bizarre Elephant Rocks and the popular Green Pool swimming beach. The breathtaking colors and untouched beaches will captivate you. In the evening, we reach Albany, the first European settlement in Western Australia.
Accommodation: Quality Apartments Banksia, Albany
Day 6: Albany (B)
Today we head to the Porongurup Ranges north of Albany. Our goal is a hike to the summit of Castle Rock, where we’ll enjoy fantastic views from the Granite Skywalk. A city tour of Albany and the panoramic view from Mount Clarence over King George Sound, where the first settlers of Western Australia landed in 1826, gives us insight into the historical importance of this southern corner of Western Australia. To finish the day, we visit the Natural Bridge and The Gap in Torndirrup National Park.
Accommodation: Quality Apartments Banksia, Albany
Day 7: Albany – Esperance (B)
Today’s journey takes us into the Stirling Range, which, due to its unusual island-like position, is home to many rare and endemic plant species. This mountain range forms a climatic island in the dry, warm plain. There will be an opportunity for a hike toward Bluff Knoll, the highest peak of the Stirling Range. We then continue on to Esperance, our destination for the day.
Accommodation: Hospitality Motel, Esperance
Day 8: Esperance (B)
The French word “Esperance” means hope, while the Aboriginal word for this region “Gabba-Kyle” translates to “the place where the water lies like a boomerang.” During a drive along the fascinating Great Ocean Drive, we explore the meaning of both names. Highlights include the Rotary Lookout, Twilight Beach, and Pink Lake. We then head to Cape Le Grand National Park. This coastline features stunning bays, beaches with dazzling white sand, and seas that shimmer in incredible shades of blue and green.
Accommodation: Hospitality Motel, Esperance
Day 9: Esperance – Kalgoorlie (B)
Today we drive about 400 km inland from the Southern Ocean to Kalgoorlie. In Norseman, we find the start of the Eyre Highway, which stretches 1,500 km through the Nullarbor Plain to Adelaide. However, we continue north to the “Golden Mile” in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Visit the Hannans North Tourist Mine, where you can even try gold panning. After a short city tour, a visit to the Kalgoorlie Museum will provide insights into the history of Australia’s richest gold mining area. North of the city, we visit the Two-Up Shed, where the traditional Australian gambling game is still occasionally played.
Accommodation: The Plaza Hotel, Kalgoorlie
Day 10: Kalgoorlie – Hyden (B)
In the morning, we take a look at the “Super Pit”, the largest open-cut gold mine in Australia. Here you’ll understand the extreme technological advancements in modern gold mining. We follow the footsteps of early gold prospectors on the Great Eastern Highway to Coolgardie. We then say goodbye to the gold rush atmosphere and travel along the unsealed but well-maintained Emu Fence Road to Hyden.
Accommodation: Wave Rock Motel, Hyden
Day 11: Hyden – Fremantle (B)
This morning, we visit the famous frozen surf wave, Wave Rock. We take our time to explore this unique natural monument and understand its history. Our journey toward Perth leads us through the extensive wheat belt of the Western Australian Wheatlands. In York, the oldest inland settlement in WA, a walk through town takes you back to the days of the early settlers. The old, well-preserved buildings with original facades still reflect the pioneering atmosphere. We continue to Mundaring Weir. The dam was built, along with the pipeline to Kalgoorlie, as part of the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme, conceived and designed by Charles Yelverton O’Connor. The pipeline brought precious water into the Outback. The Goldfields Pipeline remains a major engineering feat. Walk across the dam wall and enjoy the fantastic views. In the evening, we arrive in the historic port town of Fremantle.
Accommodation: Hotel Esplanade by Rydges, Fremantle
Day 12: Fremantle – Rottnest Island – Fremantle (B)
Enjoy the ferry ride to Rottnest Island with its crystal-clear waters and pristine beaches. The island features rugged coastlines, limestone cliffs, salt lakes, and charming little bays. Rottnest is best explored by bicycle, as car traffic is strictly limited. We will encounter unique flora and fauna – and, of course, the famous Quokkas that are native to the island. In the late afternoon, we bid farewell to this natural paradise. The deluxe ferry takes us comfortably back to the mainland.
Accommodation: Hotel Esplanade by Rydges, Fremantle
Day 13: Fremantle – Perth (B)
Fremantle, with its historic buildings that reflect colonial times, is known for its harmonious blend of culture, maritime history, and entertainment. Via Cottesloe Beach, we cruise through the most beautiful residential areas along the Swan River toward Perth. We then discover Australia’s sunniest major city. Though one of the most isolated cities in the world, Perth offers spectacular attractions. From Kings Park on Mount Eliza, a natural bushland reserve, you’ll have a magnificent view over the city and the Swan River. The city tour includes downtown Perth’s business and shopping districts, as well as the grand St. Georges Terrace, where past and present coexist like nowhere else in the city. Afterwards, you’ll have some free time.
