Ready to “Get your Surf on”? This 2-hour introduction to surfing is designed for anyone aged 14 and over who wants to experience the pure thrill of catching a wave. Perfect for absolute beginners or those who have tried it once or twice and want to master the basics, this safe, waist-deep session in the gentle white wash is the ultimate starting point. 🏄♂️
What You Will Learn
This introductory session is the perfect prerequisite to our beginner surf programmes, covering all the essentials:
- Equipment Essentials: Identify the parts of the surfboard and gear.
- Surf Awareness: Recognise hazards in the surf, such as rips.
- The Pop-Up: Learn the step-by-step techniques to stand on your board.
- Ride the Wave: Catch a broken wave in the white wash with expert instructor assistance.
- Safety First: Learn how to fall off safely in the shallows.
The Ultimate Surf Experience
Arrive at the beach ready to dive straight into the action. While you might not be ready for the pro waves at Straddie just yet, we do guarantee we will do everything we can to get you standing up and catching a wave in the white wash in the first 2 hour session! 🌊
What is Included:
- 2-Hour Lesson: A full, action-packed learn-to-surf experience.
- Small Groups: A maximum of 5 participants per instructor for personalised attention.
- All Gear Provided: Surfboard, rash vest, or wetsuit are all included.
- Daily Sessions: Running at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm daily (with extra times during peak seasons).

Arrive in your swimwear so we can get started on time. We will check you in, grab your gear, and head down to the beautiful Spit beach. ☀️
Get Started
Listen to a vital safety briefing about the day’s conditions, followed by easy-to-follow techniques to help you stand up quickly and maximise your riding time.
Get Wet & Vertical
Head into the water in a structured formation so everyone gets plenty of waves. Our expert instructors will help guide you onto the best waves, giving you the feedback you need to stand tall.
Get Sharing & Dry
After an exhilarating session, celebrate with a group photo. If conditions allow, instructors will capture action shots of you riding the waves, which will be available on our website’s photo store. Finish with a quick rinse in the outdoor freshwater showers, dry off, and celebrate your new skills!
Important Class Information
- Age Requirements: Open to anyone aged 14 and up (exceptions may be made for children over 12 with surf swimming experience).
- Swimming Ability: No advanced swimming skills are required as lessons are held in waist-deep water, but you must be strong enough to hold onto your board.
- Fitness & Health: All fitness levels are welcome. If you are pregnant or have pre-existing medical conditions, please consult a physician beforehand.
- Transport: Free all-day parking is available at The Spit. A shuttle service from Surfers Paradise is available for $15 per person (limited seating, subject to availability). The closest public transport is the Sea World bus stop.
- Public Holidays: A surcharge applies on official Queensland public holidays to support our hard-working team.
We Care About Your Safety
To allow our lesson to start on time, please complete this short compulsory important medical information form for each participant prior to arriving for your lesson. These forms are compulsory and failing to disclose some of this information may put yourself, fellow participants, or the instructors at risk. If you do have any previous injuries or medical conditions, please consult your medical practitioner prior to the lesson and address any issues directly with the instructor at the start of the lesson.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Lesson Conditions & Rescheduling
At our surf school, we run surf lessons in all weather and surf conditions, rain, hail, or shine, providing it is safe to do so. If the surf is too big, or completely flat, or if the conditions are unsafe due to high winds or lightning, then we will reschedule your lesson. If we change the time and you are unable to come to the new lesson, then we will provide a credit toward another lesson at a later date. If that is unsatisfactory, we may issue a refund at our discretion.
If you would like to reschedule a lesson you have booked, we need at least 24 HOURS NOTICE. Failure to give the necessary notice will mean you forfeit the cost of that lesson. Under these circumstances, there are no refunds, partial or otherwise.
Gift Cards
- Gift cards are valid for 2 years from the purchase date.
- If a product has a price increase, the difference will need to be made up at the time of the booking.
