It’s Whale Season from around May to October in Albany!
Join us on Albany’s most affordable and personalised Whale watching tour.
From around May to October, Humpback, Southern Right and occasionally rare Blue Whales can be seen in Albany’s waters where they frolic, mate and calve. Dolphins and seals can be seen all year round. But seeing whales is our priority on this Safari. Situated in Princess Royal Harbour, part of King George Sound, Albany’s waters are steeped in history. Imagine what it would have been like when the first explorers pulled into the harbour as early as 1627 or when the first ANZAC troops departed Albany for WWI in 1914. You’ll cruise through the Ataturk Channel and have a great view of Point King Lighthouse, Point Possession and the ANZAC Centre on Mount Clarence from the sea. Seeing whales is our priority on this safari, so we go where they go. This may affect visiting all the below places depending on their location, but we have a big three hours to see a lot of Albany from the sea. We visit the beautiful turquoise waters of Mistaken Island, the natural beauty of Gull Rock and Seal Island. Cast yourself back in time to the days of the old whaling ships and see the Whaling Station in Frenchman Bay and the shipwreck of the Cheynes II, a 440 ton steam whale chaser. It can be seen from the shores of Albany but it’s incredible to view up close and a photographers favourite. Pristine white beaches that can be seen include Brambles, Whaling Cove/Fisheries (a local nudist beach), Ledge Beach, Goode and Middleton Beach. We cruise past Camp Quaranup, established in 1875 as a quarantine station with a powder magazine built on Geake Island. Our boat is the “Young Salty Dog”, a twin hull catamaran and an ex Sea Rescue vessel that is safe and stable. Holding up to 12 passengers, Captain Mark Muscat will educate and entertain you with his commentary and local knowledge of the area. Captain Mark went out of his way to accommodate our ship's late arrival time in Albany. We liked that it was a small group experience and everyone had great space to take photos. The 4 in our group had a fantastic experience. Thank you Captain Mark for sharing your boat, stories, information and bad Dad jokes with us.

King George Sound Safari
I went on the King George Sound Safari whale tour and had a great time out on the water. The crew were fun, a bit cheeky, and made the trip both educational and enjoyable. We learned a lot about the whales and the local coastline, and even got to see a few out in the open sea. A really cool experience that definitely worth it.

There are so many things to see and do around Albany. We were only in town for a couple of days so our available time to see and do was quite limited. I'm so glad that we took the 3 hour boat Safari with Captain Mark on his boat. It was worth 10 hours of driving around. There was an interesting commentary on the places we passed. Everyone on board had a great time plus we saw whales and dolphins which is a bonus. Being able to see so much of the area surrounding King George Sound in a short time and learn so much about the places we passed was great plus it was a memorable experience and a highlight of our trip.

King George Sound Safari - 2 hour tour
Captain Mark has a very quirky sense of humour and ensured our tour was fun and very informative - the quiz adds a little competition to the experience 🥳
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great but Captain Mark had us all entertained regardless and it’s very obvious he is very knowledgeable about the history of this beautiful place and has some fantastic photos he shared with the group
We all had a great time and would definitely recommend King George Sound Safari tours for anyone visiting Albany

Watching whales was one of our dreams.
When we saw Captain Mark's little boat compares to the big tourists boats, we thought we had to take our chance !
Unfortunately no whales or dolphins to be seen on this beautiful day, we cannot force nature But we had such an exquisite time thanks to Captain Mark who made our day !
We learned and laughed a lot !!
He kindly offered us to come back for free next time as we haven't seen any whales.
Thank you so much for this amazing experience we will never forget !
We will come back for sure, so see ya Captain Mark !

We certainly enjoyed this whale watch trip. Initially, we were like worried that for an hour & and half, there was no sightseeing, but with 7 years of experience, our jovial Captain Mark soon brought us to a wonderful sightseeing of these magnificent humpback whale and dolphin. I guess luck was on our side as soon as we spotted the first school, we had the second, then the third, and on... even near the bay! Awesome, Captain Mark!!!

Me and my partner decided to do a whale watching experience whilst visiting Albany for the first time - We were so glad to have chosen this boat trip! Mark was such a fun guy and made the experience definitely one to remember! Although unfortunately we didn't see any whales, which ofcourse is out of Marks control ofcourse, we did get the privaledge to see dolphins and seals which was great!
The boat was a great size - I personally like smaller boats as it feels more personal compared to the big boats you see offering similar experiences. Everyone on board had a great laugh and will never forget our time on the trip. We sat at the top of the boat which was great as you could see for miles!
Thank you Mark for giving us a truly memorable experience - oh and thanks for all the knowledgeable facts too ????
We will for sure book your trip again when we are next visiting Albany - Hopefully with more luck seeing Whales ????

We had a great time with mark and the other passengers on Wednesday.
Felt safe and supported by mark on the boat and relaxed to enjoy the time out on the water. My husband is prone to getting very sea sick but no issues on this occasion.
Mark has a dry sense of humour and relaxes everyone with his humour as well as being informative and interesting.
I thought we were going to miss out on seeing whales after about an hour on board. Saw some fur seals and a sea lion and then the whales turned up. Beautiful sharing amongst the passengers of sightings so all able to catch the beauty of these magnificent mammals.
I also saw dolphins on the way back to Albany.
Amazing morning that has been a highlight of our trip to WA.
Thanks Mark ????????

What a great day today out with Captain Mark & the 'Young Salty Dog' on King George Sound Safari. This has got to be is the best way to see the coastline of King George Sound. The feeling of being out on the water and having fun in a totally safe way was exhilarating!
I rarely go out on boats and was happy to find this Safari because it was totally easy to book and go out on the water for whale and dolphin watching.
The boat feels easy to be on, has shelter from rain and sun and is able to get around all the places to see & learn about the environment & marine wildlife.
Captain Mark also shares fun facts, stories & history of this area in an easy upbeat way.
I would definitely do King George Safari again and see why it is such a great experience for visitors to Albany.
