One of the most unforgettable and transformative experiences of my life was joining the Why Not Bus tour along the Western Coast of Australia, from Perth to Broome. Coming from a family where travel isn’t common, deciding to embark on this adventure was one of the most daring things I’ve ever done. As a young woman travelling solo for the first time, I was both nervous and excited - but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Till this day, it brings nothing but a smile on my face...

During my year abroad in Australia for my exchange studies, I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and see the country’s natural beauty up close. From swimming in the pink lakes to camping under the stars, every day felt magical. One of the highlights was snorkelling at Ningaloo Reef - my first time ever! It was absolutely breathtaking, surrounded by beautiful coral and fish, and I remember thinking how lucky I was to witness something so pure and alive.

Travelling with strangers who soon became friends, I met people from all walks of life, shared stories by the campfire, and laughed under the starry skies. The sense of freedom, independence, and connection was something I had never felt before. As a new female traveller, it was empowering to navigate new places, make decisions for myself, and prove that I was capable of far more than I’d ever believed.

Even though it’s been about three years since that trip, the memories are still vivid and deeply rooted in who I am today. That journey taught me courage, self-discovery, and the beauty of exploring the unknown. I’ll always be grateful to Leo and the Why Not Bus team for creating an adventure that helped me discover not just Western Australia - but most importantly myself!

Book book book! This was my first time doing a trip with a tour and I was sceptical but Why Not were amazing - great value tour, so organized and relaxed with absolutely everything taken care of for us.

Bus? New, spacious & with great air con. There was a trailer attached with our luggage, camping stuff and a full kitchen - incredible
Food? All shopping was done for us by our tour guide James and all meals and recipes planned. We had different dinners every night and they were all delicious - pesto pasta, curry, mash & sausages etc. (veggie options too)
Accomodation? The hostels were all walking distance from a beach and all decent, clean & had lovely hot showers. The camping nights were incredible too - Wooramel River Retreat is a magical spot
Views and stop points? We stopped and had time at all the usual highlights, with James going out of his way to make sure we also got in incredible sunsets everyday. Ningaloo Reef was the best place I've ever snorkelled - walked right off the beach to the most amazing coral.
Tour guide & people? James really can't be faulted. He was so organized and professional and we just didn't have to think about a single check-in, food shopping, route or timing to get to anything. He really cared about us having the best time possible and his patience and going the extra mile so many times did not go unnoticed - thank you James! The group I was with were so sound. 98% solo travellers. We were just all on the same page - such a relaxed and fun trip. Friends made for life.

Why Not Bus: The Ultimate Western Australia Road Trip! If you're looking for an unforgettable adventure through Western Australia, I would definitely suggest Why Not Bus! I had never really done a pre organised trip like this before so I was a bit hesitant but from start to finish, this tour exceeded all expectations, delivering a perfect blend of exploration, excitement, and genuine connection.

A huge part of what made this trip so special was our incredible tour guides, James and Kasey. They went above and beyond to ensure everyone had an amazing time, always ready to lend a hand (especially with pitching tents). Their passion for Western Australia was infectious, and they truly made the experience unforgettable.

The itinerary was brilliantly planned, balancing travel time with an array of incredible activities and sights. From the otherworldly Pinnacles to the vibrant Pink Lake, every stop was a highlight. Camping in Jurien Bay was a fantastic start, and the Pink Lake was even more incredible in person than in photos. Our time in Kalbarri was memorable, especially the skywalk in the national park and the numerous photo opportunities at stunning viewpoints. Visiting Shark Bay and the unique Shelly Beach was followed by a relaxing camping experience at Wooramel Station, complete with its rejuvenating natural baths. The highlight for many was undoubtedly the time spent exploring the Ningaloo Reef at Coral Bay, where we had the extraordinary opportunity to swim with graceful manta rays. Then it was onto Exmouth, where we experienced the ultimate thrill of swimming alongside wild whale sharks. The beautiful Karijini National Park was another standout, showcasing the raw beauty of the region. Evenings were filled with laughter as we cooked meals together, shared stories, and indulged in some memorable nights. We spent countless hours stargazing, witnessing some of the most breathtaking sunsets and sunrises I’ve ever seen, all from incredibly beautiful spots. Beyond the stunning sights, the tour fostered a fantastic sense of community. I made lifelong friends, and we still keep in touch months later.

Best two weeks ever! Seriously take me back! An incredible two week trip up the west coast and making friends on day 1. Perfect balance of ticking all the bucket list boxes and chilling / meeting new friends. James was the best tour guide proving us with lots of info and the best sunset spots. Worth every penny. Truly felt looked after by the company and would recommend to anyone!

What an amazing 2 weeks travelling from Perth to Broome with why not bus. James our tour guide was extremely helpful and knowledgeable he made sure we all had a great time and always made sure we caught the sun set 😂 . As a solo traveler this is probably one of the best tours you can do it’s not too rushed as we spent a few nights in some destinations meaning we had more time to explore the areas along with time to rest down the beach in between activities so a perfect balance. All of the accommodation provided including the campsites all had toilet and shower facilities. I think collectively as a group we all had amazing time such a laugh. WA can be hard to travel as it’s a such a big area but with Why Not Bus it was made an easy stress free experience I would highly recommend if you want experience the west coast see some amazing places and have some incredible experiences with the wildlife.

I had an amazing time on this bus tour. It's such a good way to see the western coast and to bond with people from all over. I met one of my best friends on that trip three years ago!! I only booked on the Perth to Exmouth tour but was having such a blast I extended to go up to Karijini and back mid-tour. Loved the flexibility of the small company too. I'll never forget the adventure, giggles, scenery (most beautiful beaches in the WORLD), and people. Shoutout to bus driver/tour leader Bob!

Why not bus does it best! I was recommended why not bus by a friend who also wanted to travel the West coast but had no one to go with. She highly recommended why not bus and after my trip I would do the same. Every day was full of adventures and site seeing with a great bunch of people all around my age. I feel like we spent enough time in each location and didn't feel rushed at all. James our tour guide was also really accommodating and was always checking in with the group regarding wake up times and how long everyone wanted to spend at certain areas. James also was a great man to find us a sick sunset location! I think compared to other tours I've done it was great value for money and other than the $100 food fee you wouldn't need to spend any money on the tour if you're on a budget. Had the best time on this tour in September 2025. Lots of really fun activities from sandboarding and hikes to swimming with whalesharks (some cost extra $$). Saw so many amazing sunsets. Was a nice mix of hostels and camping. Tour guide Kasey was great and so friendly and wouldn’t have been the same without him. Definitely worth it if solo travelling or don’t want to drive yourself. Food was good, breakfast was cereal or toast, lunch usually wraps and dinner was a range of things, nice that everyone took turns helping to cook.

Unbelievable trip. Amzing people, food, itinerary, organisation!! Couldn’t recommend enough. No better way to see the West Coast. 10/10

The Tour was amazing. Our Guide James did an awesome job! Loved all the snorkelling, hiking and cooking evenings. Camping and Hostels were a good mix. We were blessed with the weather and a group that was simply the best! Would highly recommend going on a tour cause why not?

The why not bus tour was amazing! I did it three years ago and i’m still in touch with people i met there! Met the girl i started traveling with and it was the best and easiest way to get around WA!! If i could do it again i would. The drives are filled with laughter and every spot is amazing. Chris was an awesome tour guide and you could feel how much he cares about it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I joined Leo & Miles’ WHY NOT BUS back in August 2018 & hands down it was my best travel experience on my 8months Australia trip! If you are looking for travelling along the West Coast, there is no better way. Not only the nature was beautiful but also the time we spent in the bus - sometimes driving six hours straight - was FUN! 🤩 Good music, great vibes. They had all the equipment ready for us to build up our campsites and we as a group grew in the team building exercise of setting up our tents 🏕️.
Best thing: I met Julia & Carina, which I have been friends with ever since & we just met in 2025 again for Julia’s Bachelorettes party 🎉

Had such a fantastic trip in April this year. Everything was super organised, loved having everything planned for us, but also having the opportunity to do our own thing when we had downtime. Our tour guide James was amazing and easy going, nothing was too much trouble for him. Exmouth was a highlight and swimming with the whale sharks.

This bus trip from Perth to Exmouth was truly one to remember. As an Aussie, getting out to explore more of my own backyard was a dream, and this tour made that not only possible but incredibly fun.

We experienced so much along the way: sunrises and sunsets, swimming with manta rays, turtles, and even whale sharks, plus plenty of laughs and memories with an awesome group of people. If you're looking to explore the West Coast of Australia, this is absolutely the way to do it.

The journey never felt rushed. It was a relaxing cruise up the coast with well-timed stops to take in all the sights. The itinerary was well-paced, with enough time to explore without feeling like we were constantly on the move.

We were also really lucky with the weather for a July trip! We only had rain for two days, but even then we made the most of it. We still got up for sunrise, no sun in sight, but we headed to a lookout and ended up spotting some whales in the distance, so that was a bonus. The rest of the trip had lovely weather, around 19–25°C everyday. It was a bit windy at times, but honestly, it was perfect for this time of year.

Our tour guide, James, was an absolute legend. Down to earth, genuinely cared about everyone on board, and always made sure we caught sunset every day. Snack stops were also regular (very appreciated!) so no need to stress about being hungry on the road.

The tour was really well organised, especially around food. The first few nights' food shop was done before we arrived, and we just had to cook it (with James’ expert guidance - and excellent rice cooking skills, even when we accidentally added water to his carefully planned prep 😂). Midway through, we did a group food shop, split into teams to grab our ingredients, and cooked on a rotation. The trailer had everything we needed, and it made meals on the go super easy.

Accommodation was awesome too. Only 2 nights camping, and the rest in great hostels. Especially the hostels in Monkey Mia and Coral Bay, absolutely top tier!

If I had one suggestion, it would be to maybe swap out one night in Kalbarri for an extra night in either Monkey Mia or Coral Bay, there’s just more to see and do in those spots.

The group vibe was amazing. A great mix of people aged 18–35, and I’ve definitely made some friends for life.

Can’t recommend this tour enough.

Why Not Tour July 5th - 18th 2025

My favourite trip I’ve had in Australia. Our tour guide James was outstanding, no request or question was ever too much. His fun spirit added to the whole groups experience.

Everyday felt like a completely different adventure. The range of activities and landscapes were brilliant.

Cannot recommend this tour enough, was considering hiring a campervan but I am so glad we booked onto the tour. We did Perth to Broome and the trip is organised perfectly. Kasey was an outstanding tour guide with brilliant knowledge of everywhere we went. The sea life and sunsets in WA is unmatched compared to anywhere else in Australia. If you are debating booking this tour, do it you won’t regret it.

My partner and I did this tour through Western Australia over 3 years ago now, and honestly, it still stands out as one of the absolute highlights of our time in Australia.

If you're debating whether to book something like this — don’t second guess it. For both of us, it was hands-down one of the best experiences we’ve shared. The places we visited, the people we met. Unforgettable. We’re still close with friends we met on the tour, and we feel so lucky to have had that time together.

Not long after the trip, my partner was diagnosed with lymphoma. I’m not sharing that to bring the mood down, but to say how grateful we are that we did this when we did.

Massive thanks to Leo and Oli, who made the whole process smooth and stress-free. The only thing I regret is not getting to swim with the whale sharks — so when they say book early, definitely do. They’ll match you with the best tours, and spots sell out fast.

I’d really recommend this to anyone wanting to travel the west coast - the distance covered is massive so it was great to have things taken care of through a tour.

Everything was perfect - the pace, the driving vs. stopping times and the spots covered. We stopped at a range of places overnight - some camping, some dorm accommodation, which felt like a really good balance.

Everyone helping out with the cooking was a great way to bond too and made things really fun.

Kasey, our guide was by far my favourite tour guide I’ve had in Australia (I have done quite a few tours!) and he was super patient, fun, informative, kind and helpful.

I really loved all the places we stayed from national parks to coastal hostels, the pace of the itinerary was perfect and honestly I made some life long memories. shoutout to our driver/guide/vibe provider Kasey who took care of us and made it such a special trip!

We absolutely loved our time with the WhyNot bus. The tour itself is very well organised so that you get to see all the main spots along the coast without feeling rushed. There’s a big push towards socialising early on which helps create a relaxing atmosphere as you’ll be spending a lot of time together. There were plenty of solo travellers!

We enjoyed a mix between camping and hostels and found the group cooking a great way to speak to new people.

Our trip wouldn’t have been the same without our guides James & Kasey who gave us a true country WA adventure with their experiences, stories & graft behind the wheel. They made a real effort to become part of our group and we were sad to see them go!

I usually stick to solo travel and had never done a big group trip like this before, but it ended up being such an easy and fun way to see a lot of WA without the stress (or cost) of doing it myself. Of course wouldn’t be the same trip without our lovely guides!! Kasey really helped make the experience what it was. He was so kind with a lot of knowledge on the area, and really made the trip feel like a big group of friends hanging out. Why not has been the most cup filling experience I have ever had in my life.
James, our guide and bus driver for the two weeks set a chill, good feel tone which the group soaked up from the start. He was always so accommodating and made the whole experience so easy for us all. The 26 of us on the tour were like family from the start, we had the best fun and formed a very special bond!

I recently finished up an awesome trip with these guys in April 2025. Our tour guide, James, made the trip incredible. He’s super patient, organised, and knows the WA coast like the back of his hand. On top of that, he was a heap of fun—he made sure everyone was having a great time, whether you were a big partier or an early riser.

The coastline was beautiful. The ocean gets clearer every stop on the journey north. We saw huge cliffs, beautiful beaches, canyons/dessert, and some pre cool wildlife.

The group dynamic was awesome! Everyone got along super well, and James made sure we all had a great time. The only thing I wish we had more time for was to book on a tour to Steep Point to see the most western point of Australia.

If you’re thinking about booking this trip, do it! It’s the best way to see the west coast!

Such an amazing trip. Kit our tour guide was brilliant so organised and laid back. The trip itself takes you to hidden gems of WA with incredible scenery and wildlife. The fact that we didn’t have to drive was amazing and it was organised really well so we maximised our time and got to see so much more than we would have on our own. Unreal tour and definitely the best way to see the west coast of aus - packed so much in the twelve days starting from perth all the way up to broome. Great tour and had so much fun with the group - kit was a brilliant tourguide !

Great route, guide needs improvement Really great route! Unfortunately our guide was quite unfriendly, it felt like he didn’t want to know us, made no effort to chat or introduce any team bonding games or anything fun like that, and even got angry at a few members of the group causing a tense and unpleasant atmosphere on a couple of occasions. It was a shame, especially when we passed other tour groups in our hostels where the guide was really interactive and created a great vibe for the group.
The group of travellers were really nice, it turned out great for solo travel, and most accommodations are pretty nice - especially the eco retreat. Bus has a tv so that’s a plus!
However worth noting something that our group found very strange and which put a dampener on the trip - the owners of whynot used our personal photos that we had taken of each other from our personal shared album and posted them to their social media, without checking with us first and without any of us even realising they could access the photos! We noticed this and asked for them to check with us before they posted anything, which they agreed to but then did not do and continued to post without permission. A real violation of privacy and personal property tbh!
Also worth noting this is not a party bus as it used to be!! This wasn’t what I was looking for so it was fine but beware if you are looking for that. All hostels have a noise curfew and there’s no games or activities to encourage partying.

Amazing experience! An absolute must do any for backpacker in Australia. The sights you see on the west coast are unreal, the whale shark boat trip in particular is incredible. As the tour is aimed at younger people there is a fun, party vibe the whole time, but you see and experience some incredible nature as you go. Big shout out in particular to our guides, James and Jonny, who were fantastic. Helpful, fun and knew what they were doing!

Amazing trip!! I heard about Why Not from a friend who had done a previous trip with them and had highly recommended it. I knew on that recommendation we were in for a good time but the trip itself completely exceeded my expectations. As a group, we had a fantastic time together and made memories for life. The tour itself was so well planned and each destination was better than the last. Our tour guides (James and Johnny) were fantastic and went above and beyond to ensure each tour member was well looked after and had a great time. This tour covers all the main tourist attractions between Perth and Broome and booking through Why Not takes all the hassle out of researching and booking things yourself. What a 2 weeks! Had the best time with our unreal guides Johnny and James. If it wasn’t for the why not bus tour our group would’ve still been in Perth. What an experience ! I have done a lot of travelling and this was up there with one of the best holidays I’ve had to date ! Johnny and James where do I start , amazing guides, amazing guys , all round solid two who made our trip 10/10 , would recommend this trip to anyone , we were a group of 13 originally but our group also included solo travellers and small groups of friends Johnny and James did a great job of integrating us all and ensuring everyone was catered for throughout the whole trip , the trip had everything from bush camping, hostels ,sights , hikes , sunsets ,wild nights quiet nights and everything in between , two weeks wasn’t long enough in my opinion , Amazing trip would love to do it all again , Thanks so much guys ????????

Honestly can’t recommend the Why Not Bus Tour enough to anyone from their 20s and early 30s Our tour guides Johnny and James are absolute legends - kept everything flowing with a great atmosphere over the two weeks The trip has a bit everything: Karajini and the ningaloo reef, knocking back beers and having banter and outrageously good marine life - massive mantarays, reef sharks, whale sharks, sea lions, and reef. But it wasn't just the activities; Johnny and James went the extra mile to make everyone have a great time considering the mileage in the trip, thank god it’s a modern bus with charging ports and movies. To sum it up, the trip was an absolute ripper. If you've got two weeks free to adventure with a top crew and unreal guides, the Why Not Bus Tour is the way to go.

An incredible 2 weeks! The trip was more than I could have imagined, 2 weeks of laughter, and the spots we saw were incredible. Definitely an experience I’ll never forget. It felt like one big group of friends exploring the coast. I was worried it would feel like a school trip with it being arranged but it didn’t at all! It was stress free, flexible and just great vibes from start to finish! James and Jonny were great, and made the trip! I wish it didn’t have to end! Would 100% recommend!

Couldn’t recommend this trip enough, probably the best way to travel the west coast. Takes away the hassle of driving and deciding where to stay - the spots we stayed in along the way were amazing. But also a good way to meet people, made some great friends. Oli was the best tour guide ever - knew all the best places to go, tips about where we were and the tours recommended along the way (whale sharks, manta rays) were incredible experiences. This was a once in a lifetime trip and so glad we decided to travel the west coast on this tour. Cheers Oli!

One of the best trips I’ve been on. The two tour guides, one of which was one of the owners, were absolute legends. The trip is a great mix of trail walking, water activities, having a laugh going out or chilling with beers. Karijini National Park and swimming with whale sharks in Exmouth are once in a lifetime experiences.

Highly recommend taking this trip around WA! Oli was such a great guide and made the experience so chilled out and fun- we had the best two weeks ever! Made some great friends and saw the most beautiful places in WA that we definitely would never have managed to organise seeing if we hadn’t have gone with WhyNot! An experience of a lifetime for sure :)

Why Not bus was insane! I’ve been in Australia for 3 years travelling already and not normally a big fan of organised tours as I like to do things my own way but this experience felt more like a ride share with a group of mates! All the stops along the way to Broome were beautiful and the walks/ activities all thought out so we’d make the most out of each place. Bob was also awesome as driver, it felt like he was one of us which made the whole trip way more chilled. Definitely recommend especially to people who don’t usually do tours like me - I’ve now got loads of amazing memories and mates for life. (Remember to bring warm clothes for camping tho - that temperature drop at night is no joke)

Epic experience and well worth the money in just petrol alone! Amazing group of likeminded independent travellers made it a great tour for me who is a bit “tour avoidant”. Bob the guide was great, young, fun & great photographer which made the trip really enjoyable. Oli and Leo were always contactable on trip and we’re really great in sorting out my booking credit from covid pre tour. Couldn’t have gone the places we did without the tour! Would 100% recommend. AMAZING !! I had the best time on the whynotbus tour from Perth to Broome . Our tour guide Bob did everything in his power to make the experience the best it could be , he was so flexible and chilled , it felt like a bunch of friends on a road trip instead of a tour which I loved ! Wow where do I start I have traveled a lot of Australia and done a lot of tours over the past 2 and a half years and why not bus tour is by far the best tour company out there especially if you want a bit of everything. Oh and the tour guide bob is hell of a laugh and even if things don’t go to plan he would always think of something to do and would always mention cool facts. Couldn’t recommend why not bus enough

I have been in Australia for nearly 4 months and this trip was definitely the highlight of my time here. We visited the most amazing places which I never could have dreamed of going and everything was so organised, with also some flexibility if anything went wrong. Me and my partner are 29 and 30 and would definitely recommend for this age group and to couples! Met friends for life (I hope!) ... And Bob the tour host was the best! Definitely worth the money!
