‘Celebrate the future through the past’ Journey through the native bushland of Torndirrup National Park. Scenic view of Albany’s natural harbour, Princess Royal Harbour. Guided tour through Albany’s Historic Whaling Station.

Operated By:

Gaze across Princess Royal Harbour with a view to King George Sound and, in the distance the expansive Southern Ocean. As you journey along the Torndirrup Peninsula this vista sets the scene.  Imagine for a moment, the spume of spray and the playful leap of a whale as it makes its way along dramatic South Coast on a long journey north.  Today the whale  travels safely uninterrupted on its path.

Albany’s role in the Australia’s whaling story comes to life on this tour at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station at Discovery Bay.  While there meet our friendly native animals in the Animal Wildlife Park. Or, you can wander the pathways and boardwalks to view native plants and the enhanced wetland environment in the Regional Wildflower Garden. Climb aboard the famous whale chaser and marvel at the enormous whale skeletons on display. Relax with refreshments and an exceptional view over the ocean, reflecting on the significance of whale hunting in the past, and recognition of the value of whale watching today.

Courtesy pick-up! We set off in a small bus for the Historic Whaling Station – an 18Km drive. Along the way our Tour Guide Michelle gave us lots of information about the area we were driving through. The history of the Whaling Station and tour of the area was gross but very interesting. We also saw the amazing scrimshaw done by Gary Tonkin on a four metre sperm whale jawbone – very impressive. Then a nice morning tea before being driven back to the main part of the city.  A very worthwhile tour!

Guests are asked to bring their own water in a recyclable container. Please help us reduce single use plastic in our pristine environment.

We look forward to your journey with Albany Tours , ‘we’ll show you more’.
