Journey north of Brisbane into the rolling hills of Bellthorpe, rising nearly 600 metres above sea level. Here, a remarkable mix of habitats unfolds, from dense subtropical rainforest to open forest, creating an environment rich in biodiversity.

We spend our morning exploring the private property of Bellthorpe Stays, where public access is normally restricted. Walking at a relaxed pace along pristine rainforest tracks, you will be surrounded by towering trees, buttress roots, and ancient ferns. 🐦

Encounter Rare Wildlife

This diverse habitat supports an impressive variety of birdlife, making it a rewarding experience for both casual observers and keen birdwatchers. With patience and a bit of luck, you may encounter spectacular species such as:

• Regent Bowerbirds and Wompoo Fruit Doves
• Catbirds, Noisy Pittas, and Paradise Riflebirds
• Vibrant King Parrots moving through the canopy

The forest is alive with sound, and your expert guide will help you tune into the calls and movements around you. Keep your eyes peeled for wallabies, goannas, echidnas, and the rare Richmond Birdwing butterfly. 🦋

Tranquil Waterfalls and Mountain Views

Midway through the walk, pause at a secluded waterfall—a peaceful spot to rest and soak in the natural surroundings. Along the return track, pass areas of special ecological interest, including the habitat of one of the world’s rarest trapdoor spiders, before visiting the lily ponds.

After a relaxed break with a cup of tea or coffee at the centre, we head to the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve. Enjoy a short walk through this ancient ecosystem and take in sweeping views across the iconic Glass House Mountains before settling in for a delicious lunch at the local café. ⛰️
