Bendigo After Dark - Ghostly Trails and Chilling Tales City Walking Tour

When the sun dips below the horizon and shadows stretch across Bendigo’s historic streets, the city transforms. The grand nineteenth century facades seem to whisper secrets, and every echoing footstep carries a trace of the past.
Bendigo After Dark is a 90 minute lantern lit ghost tour through the historic heart of the world’s once richest gold rush city. This is not folklore invented for effect. Every story you will hear is grounded in documented history, drawn from newspaper reports, coronial inquests and official archives. The people were real. The tragedies were real. What remains is the question.
We meet at the Bendigo Visitor Centre and step into the glow of handheld lanterns. Across the road stands the famous Shamrock Hotel, and early in the evening we step inside its historic walls, a place long associated with intriguing accounts from staff and late night guests. From there we pass the silent Law Courts and move into Rosalind Park, once the chaotic centre of the gold rush camp where fortunes were made by day and tempers flared by night.
You will stand near the site where George Williams died in 1854 under circumstances many believed were no accident. On Camp Hill, you will hear of a nineteenth century religious instructor whose conduct made newspaper headlines and whose story still lingers today. At the old Police Barracks, a tragic fire in 1901 left a mark that some say can still be sensed on quiet evenings.
At the imposing Sandhurst Gaol, you will hear the gripping case of William Harrison, executed in 1889 and buried within the prison walls. In the historic Chinese precinct, the farewell letter of Yick Yung offers a deeply human and unsettling glimpse into the emotional cost of life on the goldfields.
Along the way, you will also discover one of Bendigo’s best kept secrets. Hidden in plain sight lies the site of the city’s first cemetery, long built over and largely forgotten. More than two hundred early gold rush souls were laid to rest there. Most visitors walk above it every day without ever knowing.
The walk covers approximately two kilometres at a relaxed pace. We meet at 8.50pm for a 9.00pm departure from the Bendigo Visitor Centre, 51 to 67 Pall Mall. The tour concludes at approximately 10.30pm at the Historic Black Swan Hotel, where you can relax with a complimentary local beer, wine or soft-drink and reflect on the evening’s stories.
Whether you are a sceptic, a believer or simply curious, this experience offers a rare chance to see Bendigo in a different light. Places remember.
Join us after dark and see what the city reveals. Book your place now.

I'm already planning my next tour with Bendigo Guided Tours, as loved it that much. Thanks Jamie for a great afternoon..
My wife and I were fortunate to be able to join Jamie from Bendigo Guided Tours on a very informative tour of the Chinese mines and precinct.
We firstly went to see some mines just off a road I have travelled a thousand times before and I didn’t know that these mines existed.
We also went to the Joss house and Chinese Gardens that I have never been in to.
A lovely morning tea at Omari and also a visit to the Chinese Museum.
If anyone is wanting a tour, I would recommend Bendigo Guided Tours.
Jamie also does food orientated tours. A brunch tour might be our next one.
