Departing from Broome Airport, you’ll take a scenic fixed wing flight to Derby, where you’ll transfer to our helicopter for an unforgettable aerial adventure. Soar over the vast Derby mudflats, shaped by dramatic tidal movements, then continue across the rugged Kimbolton Ranges and the breathtaking Kimberley coastline.

From there, the adventure continues as you approach the iconic Horizontal Falls. Experience flying over this natural phenomenon, where powerful tidal currents push seawater through narrow coastal gorges, creating horizontal waterfalls—an extraordinary sight that truly showcases the power of nature.

Your journey only gets better as you fly over Collier Bay and the Kingfisher Islands to witness the awe-inspiring Montgomery Reef. As the tide retreats, the 300-square-kilometre reef rises from the ocean, revealing cascading waterfalls and intricate tidal patterns—a spectacle few ever get to see from the air.

• Depart from Broome: Your adventure begins with a complimentary pick-up from your accommodation, followed by a scenic fixed-wing flight from Broome to Derby. As you take to the skies, you’ll get your first glimpse of the vast, remote landscapes that define this extraordinary region. Upon arriving in Derby, you’ll be transferred to a helicopter for the next exciting part of your journey. 
• Helicopter Take Off! As we lift off from the historic town of Derby, gateway to the wild and rugged Kimberley region, experience the unique and rugged landscapes begin to unfold beneath us.
• Derby Mudflats – Watch out for Saltwater Crocs! These tidal plains stretch as far as the eye can see – keep your eyes peeled for sunbaking saltwater crocodiles, often seen lurking in the shallows! Be amazed by the intricate patters and shapes created by the tides. Did you know that the tides in Derby are the largest in Australia and some of the largest in the world, reaching up to 14 metres!
• Kimbolton & McLarty Ranges – Ancient Beauty: Next, we soar over the ancient ridges of the Kimbolton and McLarty Ranges. These timeworn formations cut a striking figure through the outback, their deep ochres and reds telling the story of the land’s geological past.
• Talbot Bay & Horizontal Falls – A Natural Wonder: As we approach Talbot Bay, get your camera ready. We’ll orbit the world-famous Horizontal Falls – a sight that Sir David Attenborough called “one of the greatest natural wonders of the world.” Watch in awe as powerful tidal currents force water through two narrow gorges, creating a waterfall that appears to flow sideways.
• North to the Kimberley Coastline – Untouched Wilderness: From here, we head north, following the remote Kimberley coastline. This stretch of untouched wilderness is dotted with hidden coves, pristine beaches, and dramatic cliffs – a truly breathtaking sight from above.
• Montgomery Reef – An Iconic Natural Phenomenon: Soon, the spectacular Montgomery Reef emerges before you. As the tide falls, the reef dramatically rises out of the ocean, with cascades of water rushing off its sides. Home to marine turtles, rays, and reef sharks, this iconic natural phenomenon is one of the Kimberley’s most awe-inspiring sights.
• Return Flight to Derby: After soaking up the beauty of the reef, we turn back toward Derby. Enjoy the changing colours of the landscape as we cruise home – a perfect chance to reflect on the natural wonders you’ve just experienced. Once in Derby, you’ll board the fixed wing to continue your return to Broome.

To ensure you experience the rushing tides at the optimum time, we will adjust the departure time accordingly once your booking is received. Once confirmed, a new confirmation email will be sent to you with the updated details.

We know it can be tricky to lock in experiences as a solo traveller, so we’re here to help.
