Bribie Island 4WD, Kayak, Beach & Bunker Tour.An Unforgettable Adventure
Bribie Island, located just off the coast of Queensland, is a treasure trove of natural beauty, rich history, and exciting outdoor activities. The Bribie Island National Park 4WD, kayak, beach, and WWII bunker tour offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore this stunning location through a blend of adventure and education. From pristine beaches and tranquil lagoons to fascinating wartime relics, this experience is perfect for nature lovers, history buffs, and thrill-seekers alike.
Beach Drive to Norfolk Lagoon: The Kayak Adventure BeginsThe adventure kicks off with a beach drive through Bribie Island’s unspoiled coastline. The bumpy beach access track connecting you to the smooth yet exhilarating journey along the sandy shores is the perfect prelude to what lies ahead. With the windows down, the fresh sea breeze fills the air as the 4WD vehicle navigates the shoreline, making its way towards the serene Norfolk Lagoon.
The Kayak Journey
Once you reach Norfolk Lagoon, you’ll be greeted by the calm, tee-tree-stained waters that reflect the surrounding beauty like a mirror. The real magic begins as the kayaks are unloaded and participants glide into Second Lagoon (Norfolk Lagoon)—a secluded paradise. Paddling through these peaceful waters offers a chance to witness the island’s incredible flora and fauna up close. From birdlife such as the whistling kite and sea eagle, while the lagoon’s shores might reveal the presence of kangaroos and wallabies. This kayak experience is not just about adventure; it’s about connecting with nature in one of its most peaceful forms.
Wildlife at Its Best
Nature lovers and photography enthusiasts will be in their element here. Bribie Island’s lagoons are alive with activity, from playful bird species to skittish marsupials along the banks. It’s the perfect backdrop for capturing stunning photographs that highlight Australia’s unique wildlife. With each stroke of the paddle, you’ll be immersed in a vibrant world that seems a million miles away from city life.
After a peaceful and reflective kayak journey, the tour shifts gears as you dive into Australia’s wartime history with a visit to the WWII Fort Bribie Bunkers. Located further up the coast, these bunkers serve as haunting reminders of Australia’s military past.
A Window Into Wartime Australia
During World War II, Bribie Island played a crucial role in defending the nation’s coastline. Fort Bribie was established as part of Australia’s coastal defense strategy, designed to protect against potential naval attacks. Walking through these weathered structures, you’ll gain insight into the lives of the soldiers who once manned the bunkers, guarding against threats that, fortunately, never materialized.
Guides provide fascinating narratives about the bunkers’ construction, usage, and their role in Australia’s defense during the 1940s. The echoes of history resonate through these aging concrete structures, as the ocean, now slowly reclaiming them, adds to the bittersweet feeling of witnessing history slip away. Make sure to explore these landmarks while you can—these relics are gradually being eroded by the forces of nature.
Dolphin Watching and Coastal Drive Back SouthAs the tour continues back along the island’s coast, the excitement doesn’t stop. This leg of the journey often brings with it a surprise—local dolphins frolicking just offshore. These playful creatures can often be seen leaping through the waves, adding an extra layer of magic to an already incredible day.
Welsby Lagoon Stop
Before the day comes to a close, the tour makes a stop at Welsby Lagoon. This picturesque spot offers panoramic views that are perfect for soaking in the natural splendor of the island. Here, you can unwind and reflect on the adventure so far, capturing one last round of photos as the day slowly comes to a close.
As the tour winds down, the journey back to the pickup point offers time to reflect on the incredible sights, sounds, and experiences of the day. From paddling through serene lagoons to exploring WWII bunkers, each moment of the tour delivers a new perspective on Bribie Island’s unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance.

We learned much about wild life and history. We also enjoyed the nature scenery very much.
The right amount of information about the history, but not too much.
Pleasant relaxed, fun trip
Jason was absolutely amazing knowledgeable, approachable, and passionate about the island’s history and environment!
Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the area, which made the whole day even more enjoyable.
Jason was most informative, especially as Bribie Beach got battered in the recent storms.
Impressive stops at the Lagoons, lots of species of birds, roos & wallabies. Grey skies, windy but warm. Jason introduced us to a Volunteer at one of many Turtle sites, most informative. Quick pit stop at the loos, searching for more wildlife. Welcome stop for water and snack then onto the Forte. With more interesting tales of these important structures.
We're lucky enough to chat with more Turtle Volunteers, even privy to 3 being helped onto flats sands to ensure they managed to safely start their long and arduous trip in the ocean.
Jason was an excellent host, it was dusk when we left to drive back down the beach. Jason got us all back very safely to the car park. Our visitors from the UK, said they had a Fabulous time on the visit.
Would definitely recommend a trip either if a local or visitor.
Despite being a Bribie Local for 33 years there was so much I did not know about our Beautiful Bribie.
Jason is a wealth of knowledge and he delivers information in a way that makes learning fun. Bribie's part in WWII is incredible and worth seeing the remnants of the Forts/Signals/Gun buildings before they are forever swallowed into the sea.
Up to date figures on the Sea Turtle nests was fascinating and spotting local wildlife - Swamp Wallabies, Kangaroos, White Bellied Sea Eagles, Lace Monitors, Curlews, Pied Oyster Catchers and more so exciting, especially for my Canadian friends on this tour.
If there is one thing you should do when on Bribie - I strongly suggest this trip. Not something I like to do once, either, at least 4 times a year in each season to see the variety that Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter variations bring would be ideal.
Thanks Jason, LEGEND.
We saw Sea Eagles, wallabies, kangaroos, and a turtle nest. An amazing day out!
The lunch BBQ was amazing, everyone tucked in and even had seconds! The kids also got to learn a little more of Bribie, how it was formed and some of the animals that call it home. Jason was very knowledgeable and the kids enjoyed listening and learning.
Overall we had such an enjoyable trip so big thanks to Jason and the team for making it so special.
We will definitely be booking again as even as locals, getting to see these areas of Bribie are such a treat.
Nikki, Shaun and family
Everything that was needed for the day was provided, this included a good BBQ lunch.
Well done masive effort.
George and family, Czech Republic
Lunch was super. We had the lunch spot to ourselves - well almost - we shared the spot with a large lace monitor, willy wagtails, brush turkeys and so many other birds. The view was petty special too.
Thanks for a great day.
Jason was an experienced and professional guide with a great sense of humour which set a friendly relaxed tone straight away. His knowledge of the Bribie area is vast. And he had packed fruit, snacks and water to keep us hydrated and ensure we didn’t get hungry. Jason went above and beyond at all times
We saw parts of Bribie you can only see with a 4WD. We learnt a lot about the history of Bribie Island during WW2 and saw the amazing remains of the bunkers used at that time by our brave defence forces. We saw Brahminy Kites, sea eagles and other birds plus wallabies stood majestically on the sand dunes, watching us go by. Followed by a relaxed kayak in one of the lagoons
I have a few health challenges that affect my energy levels plus current bursitis in one shoulder and I still went through the half-day event with ease and delight
I definitely recommend the 4WD-Beach-Bunker-Kayak tour with Jason of G'day Adventure Tours. it was professional, punctual, great quality and worth every cent. Absolutely loved every minute of it!
He is very friendly. His knowledge of the Bribie area is very informative. He shows you the local landmarks, plus wild life and vegetation and fills you in on the history of Bribie Island
If you want a great day out with a great host, book a tour!
