Interested in the art of Damascus? We have you covered with our Damascus making class!
A handmade Damascus knife is worth not only a lot of money but they’re a great art piece and something that you will have forever. This is a great class for learning and also so you can say you made a high-quality Damascus knife!
This class is a complete Damascus knife build from the very start to the very finish, with every step in between to understand how to successfully forge your own Damascus at home or just to make one for fun.
Damascus is pattern-welded steel. We will be using 1070 & 15n20 and forge welding them together to make a billet, then prepping that billet, then we will be drawing out the billet into a bar to make our knife with a teardrop damascus pattern.
The whole process of making Damascus is precise as a lot can go wrong. We will be going over every single step to successfully forge weld your Damascus billet. We will then move on to the knife build part of the class where we free-hand grind and sand your knife, then dip in acid to show off your Damascus patterns.
We will be using a pre-made wooden Wa handle for this class as we want to focus wholly on the Damascus and knife-making process.

Shane is really welcoming, down to Earth and very willing to share all of his knowledge.
After completing the Japanese Knife making course I'm now looking at what else I can do next.
Plenty of knowledge was shared including heat treatment, tool selection, shaping technique, brands of supplies, and making your consumables last. Came away with a couple of spare bits and pieces for some future projects and a one of a kind every day kitchen essential.
Fantastic couple of days!
I chose a black and copper resin handle on a sleek skinning blade, my counterpart chose a beautiful wooden handle on the same skinning blade. They really do capture the eye and worked beautifully on the pork belly I made when I got home.
The workshop focuses on safety, and follows a step-by-step format rather than just letting people go rogue and inevitably injuring themselves.
That means that even someone who has never touched a power tool in their life could still safely create a knife that'll last a lifetime - which is backed by the shops guarantee.
All in all a wonderful experience and we're already making plans to be back!
Thank you, Savage Custom Creations!

The courses available are so worth the time and the amount of knowledge and care the guys put into each course is easy to see.
Whether you want to get into the hobby or just try something new it’s worth it, I’ll definitely be asking for other courses for future presents!
The instructor leading the course was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also had a remarkable ability to convey information in an easily understandable manner. Whether you were a complete beginner or had some experience in knife making, the instructor's guidance catered to every level of expertise. They patiently addressed any questions or concerns anyone had, ensuring that everyone had a comprehensive understanding of the knife-making process. It was evident that their wealth of knowledge and experience in the craft truly benefited all participants.
One of the highlights of this course was the opportunity to speak with Jake, the armourer. Learning from him about the different swords he was crafting and the historical significance behind each one was truly captivating. His passion for his work and his ability to share the intricate details of the swords he worked on added an extra layer of depth to the overall experience.
I cannot express my gratitude enough to the entire Savage Custom Knives team. The course was both educational and enjoyable, and I left with a newfound appreciation for the art of knife making. The level of professionalism and expertise displayed throughout the course was truly commendable.
I have no doubt that I will be returning for more courses in the future. Whether you are a knife enthusiast or simply interested in learning a fascinating craft, I highly recommend the Savage Custom Knives course. Trust me, it's an unforgettable experience that will leave you hungry for more!
Once again, thank you to all the staff at Savage Custom Knives for providing such an exceptional experience. Keep up the fantastic work!
thanks Shane and Savage Custom Knives.
The team were amazing, funny and really helpful. They walk you through every step and you can do as little or as much as you’re capable of/comfortable with. Super beginner friendly but they also have enough knowledge to keep you engaged if you are of a higher skill level. It was so fun watching the progress from start to finish too!
It attracted a lovely group of people and despite being in a big group they still managed to pay attention to all of us individually. Overall the experience was amazing, I can’t wait to go back and complete another class there!
Cheers Shane
The outcome of my experience was a knife I am so pleased with and the assay the critical steps to ensure the outcome was not a disappointment is evident in the result…
Well done Savage Custom Knives… thoroughly recommend the experience and yes the knife is extremely sharp…
I've been a hobbist maker for a bit and the best thing I learned from Shane is that I'm on the right path to improving what I know already.
The course itself was easy to digest and opened my eyes to simplifying my own processes and slowing down on others to get the right results I want.....
Awesome stuff....
I'll be back for another course for sure.....
he breaks down the process into logical fun steps, the classes are small and the atmosphere is friendly and easy going. the end product is in my opinion a high quality very usable knife. I highly recommend this course. I enjoyed it so much I stayed for another , the Japanese Chef Knife course.
Nick ran this course, Forging a knife from a flat bit of steel is a rewarding experience. Nick breaks down the steps in the daunting forging process and keeps the class fun. the results speak for themselves.
Thanks Both of you, I will be back.
Best of luck with the upcoming show.
AA++++
I was lucky enough to be in a class with only one other person so we were able to learn so much without being pressed.
I'd highly recommend this class from Savage Custom Knives for anyone who needs / deserves a very special gift.
Thanks so much!!! ????
well made product. We each created our own unique knife to take home at the end of the 2nd day. We all left thrilled with what we had achieved in the two days and can't wait to try the black smithing course!
