Tickets - We purchased tickets in advance from the visitor information centre at Queen's Street in Brisbane CBD and managed to get a 10% discount + a free silver koala pin each. Highly recommend doing so if already in the vicinity of the visitor information centre.
Parking - Lots of free parking available on a weekday.
Overall vibes - Loved how relaxed it felt stepping into the sanctuary. The animals all looked like they were living their best life, and all the staff members we met seemed to genuinely enjoy working there. It was great that the shows were available both in the morning and afternoon, so we could tour at our own pace instead of having to rush to catch them. The shows were fairly short (15 mins) but very informative. The keepers clearly prioritised the comfort of the animals and made slight adjustments to the show accordingly. We enjoyed buying some kangaroo feed then venturing into the open field to feed them!
F&B - Food selection was good and expectedly pricey (since it is an attraction afterall!). We only got light bites and ended driving back to town for food after leaving mid afternoon.
We were five adults and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There were many families out and about and the kids looked like they were having fun. Ample stroller parking all around the sanctuary.

And you can get so close to where they are perched (and sleeping of course) in their trees!
We also really enjoyed the rest of the park as well - the birds and the kangaroos.
We thought it was all really well done. We personally didn’t sign up for the pictures with the koalas but we didn’t others doing it and they seemed to enjoy it.
Overall a fun day and a great experience!

The animals looked very happy and well taken care of. It was heartwarming to see the dedication of the staff.
It was also nice to see all the different local animals beyond the koalas, making it a wonderful showcase of Australian wildlife. A fantastic and ethical experience!

Easy to reach using private or public transport from the QBD. The venue hosts different species not just koalas but also Kangaroos, crocodiles, reptiles, birds. For the welfare of animals koalas cannot be hugged but guests can pay more to see them closer and cuddle them with the supervision of staff. Everybody working seemed professional and committed to preserve the welfare of the animals. A bit pricy, but considering what you get it is still worth a visit.

Fantastic for the whole family. The owl encounter far exceeded my expectations. Leanne and the team have so much knowledge and really know how to respect the animals and also have them guided over in a way that they seemed to be genuinely having fun. Beautiful lay out, and the Koalas were so very special.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is a must-visit considering it's status as the world's first, oldest, and largest koala sanctuary in the world. It was truly a special experience seeing and interacting with the koalas and kangaroos up close especially in the huge free-roam area where the kangaroos were. The park is very well-maintained, with a number of other sections with a variety of other insects and animals. Definitely worth a visit if ever in Brisbane!

We are from the USA, living temporarily in Queensland for 18 months. Whenever we have friends or family visiting, Long Pine is one of the first places we go. We bought the 12 month pass to save a little money. We love to go in the afternoon, after the crowds have diminished. There's not as many shows, but it just seems more relaxing. Our guests love interacting with the kangaroos and getting so close to the koalas. You really don't need a lot of time to catch their exhibits, so Long Pine is a good go to place if you want to see some of the unique animals Australia has to offer.

But the day was so much more the sheepdog show, the bird show, feeding and petting the kangaroos and wallabies! The pigs! The wombats and the Tasmanian Devil! Loved them all!
Food is good and not overly expensive. The gift shop is amazing - I could've bought everything!
All of the staff we met were polite, friendly, kind and informative.
You couldn't ask for a better day out!

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is truly one of Brisbane’s most special attractions and a must-visit for anyone who loves animals. From the moment you walk in, the natural bushland setting makes you feel close to wildlife in a peaceful environment. The highlight, of course, is the koalas—you can see them up close, learn about their habits, and even have the chance to gently hold one for a photo, which is an unforgettable experience.
Beyond koalas, the sanctuary offers so much more. You can hand-feed kangaroos in a large open field, watch platypuses swimming, and see a variety of native birds, reptiles, and farm animals. The daily keeper talks and shows are both fun and educational, making it a great place for families and kids to learn about Australia’s unique wildlife.
The staff are friendly and clearly passionate about animal care and conservation, which adds to the overall experience. The facilities are clean, well-maintained, and easy to navigate, with plenty of shaded areas to rest. There’s also a nice café with good food and drinks.
Overall, Lone Pine is not just a sanctuary but a place where you truly connect with nature. Highly recommended for locals and visitors alike!

What a magical place along the Brisbane River! As the largest and oldest koala sanctuary, it’s not just about seeing animals—it’s about conservation and welfare, which are clearly at the heart of everything they do. Everyone I met was genuinely passionate about their work, and the energy was infectious. You can’t help but feel uplifted and curious to learn more about koalas and the many other animals they care for and rehabilitate.
I booked the Koala Discovery Tour and had the pleasure of having Ruth as my guide. Not only did I get a full hour with her all to myself, but she was also an incredible wealth of knowledge—patiently answering all my questions and sharing fascinating insights. I even got to spend one-on-one time with the koalas, which was an unforgettable highlight.
Beyond the koalas, there’s so much more to experience. The dingoes were fascinating to observe, Cockie the cockatoo was an absolute character, and the kangaroos were so relaxed (and softer than I expected!). Feeding the lorikeets was pure joy.
Overall, my experience was nothing short of wonderful. If you plan on visiting more than once, an Annual Membership is a smart choice—it includes 10% off food and merchandise too. I’ll definitely be back soon, and I’m especially excited for the Nocturnal Tour this Friday at 5pm

Excellent experience kangaroos can be fed. The Tasmanian Devil looks soft but look at those jaws and teeth. Koala are always good to watch. So is the Platypus we saw a central python as well as all the other birds and animals. Well worth the entry fee. You may want to get there early before the crowds come in we went on a week day and by lunch time there were people everywhere

• Visitors could no longer hold and cuddle koalas. Photo taking with koalas had become much more expensive and they no longer provide photos.
• Koala talk had no screen.
• Sheep show cut short, 1 sheep dog instead of 2. Sheep no longer guided by sheep dogs to jump off ramp. No more whistling to command the dogs to guide the sheep. Instead, staff walked beside sheep instead. Is this the way to control sheep?
• No sheep shearing after sheep show.
• At the barn, there were empty enclosures and a few enclosures were removed. No more feeding of lambs.
• No more feeding sheep and goats next to barn.

This place was pretty good! You can definitely get close to both the koalas and kangaroos, which is nice. Some good photo opportunities, varying by animal.
The one big downside is that they don't give you the opportunity to buy any of the animal experiences when you get your ticket, only once you're inside and have already spent 30 minutes looking at birds and koalas.
By the time I figured out where I needed to go to buy the koala experience (where you get to hold one) the only booking was two hours from that point. 😕 Other people knew to go directly to the booking kiosk.
Worse, they don't allow refunds, so my idea to buy it and use it if I was there two hours (or get a refund if I wasn't) didn't work. I stayed for an hour after that point, so it would have been a long wait for the koala experience.
To me this seems simple to solve: let people book their animal experience when they get their tickets.
Oh, and don't wear nice shoes as it's completely impossible not to step in kangaroo 💩. It's absolutely everywhere, so wear shoes that are easy to clean.
All in all, I'm glad I went, but do wish I would have gotten a photo with a koala.

Although not a large or flashy facility, the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is very well organised and focused on its core attractions. I was able to meet koalas up close from many different angles, and they were surprisingly active and lively. The kangaroo feeding area was spacious, allowing plenty of interaction with them. The dingoes were fascinating, as they looked remarkably similar to domestic dogs. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and a great place to enjoy a relaxing afternoon.

Lovely large sanctuary with lots of native animals. Some of their confinements were large and spacious, while some other one seemed a bit small. Staff is friendlyvand knowledgeable throughout. There are plenty of amenities in the park, toilet facilities, cafes etc.
The nicest part is the large kangaroos section where the kangaroos roam around freely. This is a lovely part to explore and walk around in, you can even feed the kangaroos with pellets you can purchase from the shop. However, they are well fed and might not be that interested in the snacks.

I recently visited the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane and wanted to share my experience. The sanctuary offers a truly enriching opportunity to observe a diverse range of Australian wildlife, including koalas, kangaroos, and wallabies, alongside many other fascinating creatures. While the admission price might be considered somewhat high, I understand the significant costs associated with maintaining such a facility and ensuring the well-being of its inhabitants.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the engaging and educational raptor and sheepdog demonstrations. These presentations provided fascinating insights into the unique abilities of these animals. I highly recommend Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary as a worthwhile destination for individuals, couples, and families seeking an enjoyable and informative experience. The opportunity to learn about and connect with these magnificent animals is truly remarkable.

A very nice place to spend a half day while in Brisbane. Many koalas and kangaroos as well as few other Australian wild and domestic animals and birds with some life shows. Great for families with kids but also for any age animal enthusiasts. Easy access by public transportation from downtown Brisbane. There is a nice option to take a river cruise there and back. Unless you really want to touch a koala, special packages which include a short encounter are unnecessary. There are so many koalas that you can see up close there and only if you are eager to touch you need the special packages.

And they’re so cute and floofy!
I’m not a fan of petting wild creatures so like the fact you can’t hold them at the sanctuary, but you can get pretty close to them and you’ll get some great photos.
The interactions with roos and wombats were a bit too hands on for me, with kids able to walk over to them while they’re relaxing and hug them, much to their parents’ delight. The animals didn’t seem to mind and maybe it’s great to create that bond and care for animals at a young age, it’s just not for me.
So I’d recommend if you want to see some beautiful creatures. They all seem well cared for and I learned a lot!

A Must-Visit!
I absolutely love this place—I’ve been here three times already, and I’d go again in a heartbeat! Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is perfect for everyone—families, kids, couples, or even solo travelers. No matter your age, this place has something special to offer.

Of course, the stars of the show—the adorable koalas—are everywhere, and the free-range kangaroos are an absolute joy to feed and pet. Watching them up close is such a unique and memorable experience!
Coffee and snack caffe available at the sanctuary.

All of the animals are very well treated. The stars are the koalas and kangaroos, but the platypus was unique. Plenty of space to walk around.
If you come by boat and only have 3 hours in the sanctuary, skip the nocturnal animal part, as there is nothing to see in daytime.

I had this trip booked about 1 year ago and although you can no longer hold a koala, you can touch and have photos taken with them at an additional cost. It certainly didn't disappoint. The koalas, feeding the kangaroos and the aerial raptor display were definitely the highlights but there were other animals, crocodiles, dingos, water dragons just wandering around the tourists. We didn't get to see the wombats or the Tasmanian Devil, but there are various species of Cockatoo.
Our day here was excellent, thank you.

This is a great place to visit if you want to see a lot of koala, hear me out, there’s plenty, wherever you go there’s a koala.
However this place only mainly has Australian native animals like kangaroos, Tasmanian devil, platypus and many more Australian animals. So don’t expect to see animals you see in a normal zoos like elephants, giraffes or rhinos.
To be fair, all the enclosures are well designed and it’s like a replica to the real environment the animals live. For the kangaroos, there’s a large open area where all the kangaroos just hops around and you can feed them and get close up. There are interesting animals shows which you don’t have to book in advance.
They also offer photo with koala and I recommend booking in advance because they have limited slots per day.
I went on a weekend and it’s not very crowded because the park is massive. You can get around the park on feet.
The parking is free and there’s plenty of slots even on a weekend.

We visited on a school holiday Monday; arrived at 10 am and went straight in. Caught the end of the lorikeet feeding which the children really enjoyed. The Raptor show was the highlight for me with owls swooping low overhead! Don’t bother buying kangaroo food - they were completely full by the time we went after lunch - but even though the enclosure is expansive they were happy to be patted and we got some lovely photos. Yes, there is a free range emu in with the marsupials!
There were enough exhibits to keep the children (7 and 5) engaged for nearly 5 hours - and koalas, so many koalas! Surprised to see a cassowary in such a small area. There was a rescued wedged tail eagle so perhaps it was a rescue too. I felt a little guilty about the platypus and other animals in smallish enclosures.
An unexpected delight were the Tasmanian tigers racing around their large enclosure and under the walkways in the Nocturnal area, past the farm animals.
The quality and price of lunch was as expected from a tourist attraction - I would recommend making the effort to bring your own food and only purchase coffee and drinks at the cafe. You can watch koalas while you eat in the large covered area and we were stunned to run into a couple of miniature donkeys in the gift shop on the way out!
An enjoyable day, not cheap for four adults and two children, but a convenient way to see all our iconic Australian animals in the heart of the city.

The zoo is fantastic -- lots of wonderful Australian fauna in one place. The koalas are the definite highlight and you can pay extra to get a photo close with one (and you can pet it, so soft! 34$ for a group of 4) or pay even more to hold it (something like 45$ for an individual). They may sell out so try to book ahead. We did the group photo experience and that was great.

Must go. Very close to Brisbane. Workers told us the koala holding doesn’t usually sell out until 11 pm. I would buy entry tickets ahead of time and get there by 8:30 to make sure you can hold the Koalas at a good time. The public bus stops in the parking lot. Workers were friendly. Over 100 koalas and lots of pettable kangaroos. My girl really wanted to hold a koala and it was impossible at Steve’s zoo without booking weeks ahead of time. Plus the entry and holding are cheaper here. We went here and the zoo and both were amazing. They are doing lots of good work here. Please support them. You should figure at least 4 hours here. Will return. Koala holding was only about 30 seconds but didn’t feel rushed. The workers were nice and very happy to take cell phone pics. Plus it comes with a printed photo.

What a treat to spend the afternoon at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary! We had a short few hours to spend in Brisbane, so we found some discounted tickets online and hopped a bus from downtown.
Knowing this is a sanctuary and not a zoo, we felt good about the treatment of the animals and the quality of care they receive. Staff were friendly and informative, and we loved this rare opportunity to be so close to some of these animals. For just $2 AU, you can purchase kangaroo food and hand feed one of the many roos and wallabies in the expansive kangaroo enclosure. I never thought I'd be wandering a field filled with kangaroos and even an emu. It was a very cool and unique experience for visitors coming from outside Australia.
For as little as about $35AU, you can also book a koala experience. This gave us a quick couple minutes to take photos up close and even pet one of the koalas while it perched on a tree-like stand and enjoyed munching on a eucalyptus branch. We got some pretty great photos from this. You can also choose to pay more for an upgraded encounter where you actually hold a koala and get professional photos taken. The encounters have a daily capacity, so you'll want to book in advance online, especially if you're going on a busier weekend. We enjoyed our brief session, and the koalas seemed unbothered, just happily snacking away.
Even without paying extra, you can get fantastic photos since the koalas perch in simulated trees, happily napping and munching on eucalyptus leaves, while safely separated maybe 15-20 feet away from visitors, and without the added visual barriers of caged enclosures.
There are also other animals to see- birds, dingos, wombats, free roaming lizards, and even the world's oldest platypus. We spent about 3 hours exploring, and we could've spent another hour or two if we'd planned around some of the other animal experiences, like feeding the lorikeets or if we'd paid for another up close and personal behind the scenes tour.
Overall, this was an awesome place to visit, and I'd love to return someday

This is a Koala Sanctuary rather than a zoo - so whilst there are other species there, these are not the focus of exhibits. But if you love Koala, look no further. This place is a gem. It is clear that the staff are knowledgeable and really care about the animals in their charge, and the environment was beautiful.
We had a behind the scenes guided tour - a ‘Discovery Tour’ - and were guided by Elle. She was friendly and a perfect guide, sharing her knowledge and information at the right level for a diverse group. She was organised and kept us all on time and in line.
Whilst there, Elle noticed one of the elderly Koala had sneezed and produced nasal discharge. She immediately flagged this on the radio and a more senior colleague arrived within 60 secs to give the Koala some support. It was lovely to see.
We also got to hold a Koala, and it was evident that this is approached carefully and considerately. The animals were not stressed and are looked after by their keepers to make sure they were happy and safe. A lovely experience which we will never forget. Thanks
