It is incredible how much is involved in keeping this sanctuary running and helping the animals to live long full lives.
I paid to do the platinum tour and it was more than worth it. My tour guide Alec have me a detailed and fully special one on one tour with many different moments that he and the trainers and other animal teams put together to help me remember this day forever.
I got up close and personal and was able to feed some of the following: Koala, Tasmanian Devil, Kangaroo, Dingos, Sheep dog, Snakes, Leaf Bugs, Raptor Birds, Pig, Sheep, Goat, Casowary,Emu, and Platypus.
This was a full days experience and worth every dime! Alec and this parks staff are the best I've met in my world travels to include America and Thailand.

Only disappointing part was not being able to see the Wombats but they were sleeping so completely understandable
Such a great place to visit with family or friends and definitely take your kids they will love it.

I visited this sanctuary as part of the river cruise tour via getaguide and it was absolutely fantastic. This tour was recommended to me from a work colleague and it did not disappoint and I will do a separate review about the tour company.
I accessed the sanctuary from the river and there is about 25 steps up to the sanctuary.
The sanctuary itself is big and there are lots of different animals, the main focus is of course the koalas. All the animals looked in excellent condition and very really well cared for with lots of staff cleaning and feeding animals whilst I was there. They were all super friendly and willing to answer questions as you’re going round and very knowledgable. There’s also toilets, hand washing stations and a cafe/ gift shop on site with all the usual merchandise and amenities for a lovely day out. I spent about 3 hours here and that was plenty of time to get round and see everything (it wasn’t busy- it may take longer on busy days!)
Definitely would recommend the kangaroos (although be aware they are very chill and docile and I’m advised they absolutely aren’t like this in the wild!) I sat with one kangaroo for about 25mins stroking it and it was honestly the most wholesome thing I did whilst in Brisbane. Genuinely a memory I will treasure. My advice, if you like koalas and kangaroos just go, you will not regret it.

This is such a great sanctuary and it was particularly interesting to go and see the koala rehabilitation centre and what the specialists do to aid them back to health, it was good to learn about this. Also we enjoyed seeing so many koalas dotted around as well as feeding the kangaroos in the areas however the one area was closed when we visited so we had the smaller area with less kangaroos but apart from that it was a good experience.

We had a wonderful and very relaxing day at Lone Pine Sanctuary!
Feeding the kangaroos was such a special experience, and seeing the koalas up close was amazing. The staff and guides were very friendly and shared lots of interesting information about the animals and Australian wildlife.
There were so many beautiful tropical birds, flying foxes, quokkas, wombats, and many other animals to see. The whole sanctuary is very family-friendly and perfect for children as well.
We would definitely recommend coming in the morning, as the animals are much more active earlier in the day.
Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!

I visited the sanctuary and took some beautiful photos of the koalas, and for me they became the heart of the whole experience. There is something incredibly touching about watching koalas resting quietly in the trees, holding onto the branches with their little paws, half asleep and completely calm. Their soft grey fur looks so fluffy and gentle, and their round faces have that special sleepy expression that makes them impossible not to love.
What I especially enjoyed was the natural atmosphere of the sanctuary. The koalas are surrounded by greenery, eucalyptus leaves, and quiet shaded areas, so the whole place feels calm and very Australian. It is a wonderful opportunity to see these animals not just as a symbol on postcards, but as living, breathing creatures with their own slow rhythm and peaceful presence.
Lone Pine is also much more than koalas. It is a great place to discover Australian native wildlife in one visit. You can see kangaroos, wombats, dingoes, reptiles, birds, and other animals that are part of Australia’s natural world. The sanctuary is educational without feeling too formal, and it is suitable for visitors of different ages — families, travellers, couples, and anyone who wants to understand Australian wildlife better.
The location is also very convenient, not far from Brisbane city, but once you are inside, it feels like you have stepped away from the busy urban world. The riverside setting, the trees, the sounds of birds, and the relaxed pace make the visit very enjoyable.
For me, the most memorable part was simply standing quietly and watching the koalas. They looked so soft, sleepy, and peaceful, curled up in the trees like little grey clouds. Their fluffy ears, dark noses, and calm expressions are absolutely adorable. These are the moments you want to photograph — and then return to those photos again and again.
Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is definitely a must-visit place in Brisbane, especially if you are visiting Queensland and want to experience Australian wildlife in a meaningful and beautiful way. It is a place where you can slow down, enjoy nature, learn something new, and leave with warm memories — and probably many photos of very cute koalas.

The picture with a koala was great if there was no line. They rushed my friend when it was her turn. And after leaving the area, we returned and she was allowed to retake the photo that we had traveled 10,000 miles to get!

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary was a wonderful experience. It is clearly a well managed and funded facility. We have a love for koalas in particular and there were at least 30 of these amazing animals in the Koala Forest at the back of the dining area. I think our timing was very fortunate, as the keepers were changing their eucalyptus leaf supplies and they were very much moving around and wide awake, which was an awesome sight.
We also saw plenty of kangaroos, tree kangaroos, birds, including the magnificent cassowary and emu, dingos, crocs, platypus and other reptiles and amphibians. Unfortunately it was a hot day so the Tassie Devils and wombats were out of view at the time.
Worth the entrance fee just to have spent the time watching the koalas!

An absolutely fantastic and memorable place to go for an authentic australian experience! I went with my family there and had an absolute blast. There was so many different animals to look at in such a beautiful sanctuary! I have never seen half of the animals in person, and I was able to get up close and pet so many of them! My nephews has a great time and we're running to every attraction. I would love to come back again when I have the ability to come back to Australia.
I took so many photos and have such great memories to share with all my friends and family. I definitely recommend coming to visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary!! It was an amazing first experience. I would love to come back and share that experience with my boyfriend in the future! I cannot express enough how much I enjoyed my time here.
The selfie with a kangaroo was definitely a bonus. It was extremely cool to get up close to a kangaroo and pet them. I would of never imagined being able to do that!

Love this place ! Super clean and animals are very well cared for. Plan to spend a day to truly see everything. The handlers were very nice and informative. The koala and dingo experiences are a must. A full day with a private tour would be a wonderful way to see the Sanctuary. I will definitely be back.

Wonderful place. I don't usually like zoo, I don't like seeing the animals outside of their habitat. But I must say that they are treated wonderfully, and the visit can be long, informative and peaceful as much as entertaining.
I have enjoyed everything, from feeding the kangaroos to photo with a koala, also the portable phone charger available at the boutique has really helped.
The only down side is that after 4pm the boutique inside is closed and we can't get food, I was very hungry and I couldn't get a fruit or a healthy snack. (There is another boutique when you exit but they only had ice-cream). The merchandise were not to my taste either.
If I can make a tiny suggestion it's that the kangaroo food that we can buy to feed them should probably be a smaller portion. A lot of people are buying them and the kangaroos don't want it anymore early in the afternoon, so you get less chance to feed them. That being said, later and in another spot I was able to stay alone with one and he enjoyed the left over I had.
Thank you for this wonderful park

This was a memory of a lifetime experience. I'm from the states and only seen koalas and kangaroos from a distance. While at the LPKS, I was able to pet a koala (Morris) and feed kangaroos. Another very cool sight was the sheepdog show. The other animals, birds, reptiles, and insects were also great to see in person.
We went in March, so it was warm and mostly sunny. Be prepared with sunscreen and sunglasses.

But, if you are looking for kangaroos in large open ranges, birds flying around together in massive bird enclosures and koalas roaming tree to tree in live eucalyptus trees, you are likely to be disappointed.
That being said, there is so much to enjoy here.
The koalas are restricted from leaving the area but for the most part do not appear to be “caged”. These slow moving, cuddly marsupials seem to be happy to sleep some 18 hours a day perched in “fake” trees which are actually real eucalyptus trees secured in the area giving them something to climb on. If they do wake up, it is usually because caring handlers, who call them by name, bring bunches of fresh eucalyptus leaves for them to enjoy. Mealtime!
Birds, reptiles, kangaroos and other animals are housed in environmentally appropriate enclosures which are large enough for them to fly and roam about at least to some degree. Particularly interesting is the enclosure for the dingoes. The sanctuary has been home to several dingoes over the years, including popular residents named Stirling, Jindy, and Tanami. They live in a specialized habitat featuring ponds, bridges, and hills to keep them active.
Not to be missed are two interesting shows. The first is the free flying raptor show. You will sit in a small amphitheater while these beautiful creatures swoop down just inches from your head to the outstretched arms of the handler below. Then they obediently return to their home. The experience is obviously enjoyed by both birds and handler.
The second show is watching an intelligent sheepdog manipulate and corral a group of about ten sheep. With just a whistle or hand gesture from its trainer the dog directs the sheep through small narrow openings into a pen that barely holds them all. The dog never barks or even nips at the sheep (although the sheep sometimes get a bit feisty and rebellious). I have seen this in videos, but it was even more fun to see it in person.
Another plus on the site was the Sleepy Koala Café. I was pleasantly surprised at both the quality of the food and the relatively reasonable price. I recommend that you take a break and enjoy some refreshment there.
If I had any issue, it would be that you have to pay if you want to actually get up close to the koalas and even the sheepdog. I understand that a facility like this does not survive simply on love. Someone must pay to keep it going. Still, it was a little disappointing.
All in all, this was a most enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. I would do it again.
Tip: If you decide to take public transportation, keep in mind that some of the bus routes drop off and pick up passengers right on sight. Others just get you close but require you to walk a short distance before getting to the entrance. Be sure to check which bus line works the best.

Would highly recommend visiting the sanctuary if it’s your first time here in Brisbane. Tickets were about $60AUD we attended all the free shows that were offered. You can literally spend all day there if you have the time.
We were able to feed a few of the kangaroos that were roaming around. However, most of them were not hungry anymore at the time we were there and they just wanted to nap 😂
The koalas were super cute. There were probably more than 50 for you to see. You can pay a little extra to hug and feed them.

Visiting Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary was an unforgettable experience. The sanctuary is beautifully maintained, and you can really feel how much care goes into looking after the animals. Getting up close to the koalas was a highlight — the staff were knowledgeable, gentle, and clearly passionate about conservation, which made the whole encounter even more meaningful. From hand‑feeding kangaroos to watching the birds of prey show, every part of the visit felt engaging and well organised. The pathways were easy to navigate, the facilities were clean, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. It’s the kind of place that leaves you with a deeper appreciation for Australia’s wildlife. I’d highly recommend Lone Pine to anyone visiting the area — families, tourists, or locals looking for a memorable day out.

Many of the enclosures are extremely small, especially for birds and reptiles. The birds cannot even fly properly, which is heartbreaking to watch. This is not conservation, it is confinement.
The koala enclosures are particularly disturbing: they are tiny, with fake trees, concrete floors, and the animals are kept very close to humans. In the wild, koalas live high up in real trees, far from constant human presence — not at ground level surrounded by noise and people.
What shocked me the most is that there is still the possibility to touch, pet and take photos with koalas. Koalas are known to be highly sensitive and easily stressed animals. Allowing physical contact for tourism and profit is unacceptable and unethical.
Even worse, the so-called “koala forest” is located right next to the restaurant, in the middle of where people are eating, talking and moving around constantly. Calling this a forest is frankly shameful.
This place relies heavily on greenwashing and marketing, using the word “sanctuary” to make visitors believe they are supporting animal welfare, when in reality they are visiting a commercial zoo.
The animals may be legally “well cared for”, but this is far from a natural or respectful environment. If you truly care about animal welfare, this place will leave you uncomfortable and disappointed.

We visited today (a Thursday during school holidays). There were ample street signage and parking. It was a short walk from the carpark to the entrance.
There is an option to scan a code near the entry and pre-pay. There are deals for family passes. We pre-paid and a receipt printed out. A staff member scanned the barcode and let us through. You then have to scan a barcode on your phone to view the map & program. There are free shows included in admission but there's also optional experiences you can pay extra for.
There are lots of lizards 🦎 roaming around the sanctuary but they weren't an issue and get out of your way. The kids enjoyed seeing a range of animals in their enclosures. We didn't get around to all the exhibits.
The highlights were the koalas and kangaroos. If you want to feed the kangaroos you need to buy feed located throughout the sanctuary.
We only saw some of the sheepdog show and the kids weren't interested in the other offerings. We spent a few hours here. It was a really hot day. I recommend bringing a hat and keeping hydrated.

Honestly, you really can’t go wrong with Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary — it’s such a fantastic day out for the whole family. We have the yearly pass, and it has more than paid for itself after just a couple of visits, which makes it great value. Whether it’s a spontaneous after-school trip as a special treat or a full day adventure to explore everything the sanctuary has to offer, it’s always an enjoyable experience. The kids absolutely love it and have the best time getting up close to Australia’s native animals, and they’re always excited by the cheeky local wildlife that pops up along the way. It’s a fun, educational, and memorable outing every time.

This is a sweet little animal centre with plenty of koalas to see and roaming kangaroos. I really liked the platypus and the staff were super friendly and helpful when I had questions. Unfortunately for $60 it really did not seem worth the price. It is a very small park and only took about 2 hours to see the whole thing, so it really didnt feel like value for money. For us, a smaller more intimate experience is more us. And we didnt need to see animals for outside of Australia. So Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary it was. We did a Platinum Tour to get special access.
Our visit was incredible. Our guide Ella was so spunky and knowledgeable. Spme people didnt show up for the tour and the other didnt do his reservation correctly so we ended up with a tour all with the guide to ourselves! We got to feed kangaroos, including an adult male, a female with a joey in her pouch, an 8 month old joey that was out of the pouch and both red and gray kangaroos. We got special time with dingos. The staff was shocked when the female dingo came right up to amazing, then rolled over for a belly rub. They said that she is shy and usually barely interacts with people. We got one on one time with koalas. We saw a shy platypus in his sleeping den. We helped with feeding a Tasmanian devil. We held an Australian white eagle and petted an Australian sheep dog. We also saw the prehistoric looking Cassowary, a bird with raptor type feet and beautiful blue head.

Tickets - We purchased tickets in advance from the visitor information centre at Queen's Street in Brisbane CBD and managed to get a 10% discount + a free silver koala pin each. Highly recommend doing so if already in the vicinity of the visitor information centre.
Parking - Lots of free parking available on a weekday.
Overall vibes - Loved how relaxed it felt stepping into the sanctuary. The animals all looked like they were living their best life, and all the staff members we met seemed to genuinely enjoy working there. It was great that the shows were available both in the morning and afternoon, so we could tour at our own pace instead of having to rush to catch them. The shows were fairly short (15 mins) but very informative. The keepers clearly prioritised the comfort of the animals and made slight adjustments to the show accordingly. We enjoyed buying some kangaroo feed then venturing into the open field to feed them!
F&B - Food selection was good and expectedly pricey (since it is an attraction afterall!). We only got light bites and ended driving back to town for food after leaving mid afternoon.
We were five adults and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There were many families out and about and the kids looked like they were having fun. Ample stroller parking all around the sanctuary.

Lovely shaded area for lunch and reasonably priced cafe.
We caught the bus which takes you right outside the Sanctuary. Worth a visit.

The animals looked very happy and well taken care of. It was heartwarming to see the dedication of the staff.
It was also nice to see all the different local animals beyond the koalas, making it a wonderful showcase of Australian wildlife. A fantastic and ethical experience!

Easy to reach using private or public transport from the QBD. The venue hosts different species not just koalas but also Kangaroos, crocodiles, reptiles, birds. For the welfare of animals koalas cannot be hugged but guests can pay more to see them closer and cuddle them with the supervision of staff. Everybody working seemed professional and committed to preserve the welfare of the animals. A bit pricy, but considering what you get it is still worth a visit.

Fantastic for the whole family. The owl encounter far exceeded my expectations. Leanne and the team have so much knowledge and really know how to respect the animals and also have them guided over in a way that they seemed to be genuinely having fun. Beautiful lay out, and the Koalas were so very special.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is a must-visit considering it's status as the world's first, oldest, and largest koala sanctuary in the world. It was truly a special experience seeing and interacting with the koalas and kangaroos up close especially in the huge free-roam area where the kangaroos were. The park is very well-maintained, with a number of other sections with a variety of other insects and animals. Definitely worth a visit if ever in Brisbane!
