- Ensure you are prepared for seasickness and take appropriate precautions based on your ocean-going experience. See below for more information on seasickness.
- Bring appropriate clothing for the conditions.
- Bring any essential medication.

Weather and Minimum Numbers Requirements
Our ability to travel is weather and minimum numbers dependent. If you are travelling to the area only to visit Lady Musgrave Island, checking in 7 days in advance is recommended. Long-range forecasting is released 10 days in advance.
Weather Cancellations
1770 Reef travels conservatively, with customer enjoyment at the forefront of our consideration. Wind speed and ocean swell are our main concerns. Weather cancellations are the discretion of 1770 Reef. Tours will still operate in overcast and rainy conditions. The marine life at Lady Musgrave Island is undeterred and all activities can still proceed as normal.
Cancellations by 1770 Reef
We predict cancellations as best we can and aim to provide more than 48 hours notice. Sometimes this is not possible as the forecast can deteriorate quickly. We highly recommend allowing 2-3 nights accommodation in Agnes Water / 1770, so that you have the most flexibility in the event of a cancellation. We understand this is not always possible. As per our cancellation policy, all cancellations by 1770 Reef have no cancellation fees, and bookings are fully refundable.
Guest Cancellations
Bookings can be cancelled by guests, however a fee will be applied. Please read our cancellation policy at the bottom carefully.

- The staff on this tour were AMAZING! My partner was very sea sick and they took great care of him. In general though they were approachable, friendly, laid back but also professional. Just a nice bunch! They took care of us really well.
- The snorkelling was great! We saw a turtle, loads of fish, a huge eel and a stingray. During the glass boat tour we also saw loads of huge turtles which was pretty cool.
- The food was yum and we had loads of leftovers to take home.
- Nice chilled atmosphere.
I haven't given 5 stars because:
- Seasickness - this is more of a warning to others than a fault of the company as they can't control the conditions and did suggest tabs. However saying that perhaps they could have better warned us of the conditions more seriously (sharing that a large percentage of people vomit during the 90 min choppy crossing if they don't take them) and sea sickness tabs or even just ginger could have been offered at the office during check in.. we booked last minute and didn't have time to go the pharmacy before hand. My partner was incredibly sick for the whole 90 min journey (felt like forever). I'd say 1/3 of people were throwing up... Sick bags being passed around and used bags being collected by staff was a bit unpleasant and not a great start to the day. Dido's 'I will go down with this ship' played somberly amongst the sound of wretching as we sped through the waves in the darkness at 5am... It was intense. It was the choppiest boat ride I've ever experienced.
- It would have been nice if we'd known prior to booking that the boat ride to the reef was 90 mins and extremely choppy conditions.
- I would have had a very quick (15 mins) glass bottom tour and left out Lady Musgrave island so there was more time to relax and snorkel... allowing us to come in and out a few times... Like have lunch on the boat go in.. come out and have some tea.. back in again... Chill upstairs. The whole thing felt a bit rushed, especially after the vomit fest in the morning. The island in my opinion wasn't that nice or interesting... We could've heard some facts about it during lunch and then had the option to go or go snorkelling instead of just leave it out entirely.
- The guides were great but I would've liked to have learnt a bit more about the reef and the marine life there. When I did a whale watching tour we learnt some really cool facts about whales and that was greatly appreciated. There were a few things said but not to the whole group necessarily...
- I didn't love the boat compared to others I've been on especially feeling trapped in the downstairs vomit chamber but I understand that was due to weather conditions. But lunch could've been served upstairs in the sunshine away from the bad memories.
And as a surprise, we got to see a lot of dolphins on our way back chasing the boat/ferry.
We were a little disappointed by the coral: most of it is brown, which doesn't mean it's dead, but rather due to algae. It doesn't look like coral with all the imaginable colors you can see elsewhere on the Great Barrier Reef so if you want to see coral go to the north.
The worst part is that I've never paid for a wetsuit on a tour. Yes, it's written in the email, but to me, it's a joke. The price here is the same as for all the tours in GBR, with an extra charge for snorkeling. The wetsuit costs $10 per person, which isn't much, but it's a bit surprising it’s alaways included in the price…
The sea sickness pills we recommend 👌!
