Step into the world of Old Kempton Distillery, where history, craftsmanship, and flavour come together in the heart of Tasmania.
Your experience begins at the beautiful Dysart House in Kempton, a grand 1840s coaching inn that has been home to Old Kempton Distillery since 2015. Here, we craft small-batch spirits—single malt whisky, gin, and liqueurs—using only the finest 100% Tasmanian ingredients.
Your package includes a journey through time and taste: a guided tour of the house, our working distillery, the bond store where whisky quietly matures in barrels of all shapes and sizes, and our surrounding grounds. Each tour is unique, offering an insider’s look at daily life inside a boutique distillery. And keep your eyes peeled—this old house has its share of ghost stories and secrets in the walls.
After your behind-the-scenes adventure, take a seat in our elegant Cask Lounge, nestled within the cellar of the old coaching inn. Here, you’ll enjoy a guided tasting of four Old Kempton single malt whiskies, paired perfectly with a Tasmanian antipasto platter for one—a delicious spread of local produce (normally valued at $90).
If whisky isn’t your only interest, we also offer tastings of our handcrafted gins and liqueurs—just let us know what you’d like to explore.
It’s more than just a tour—it’s an unforgettable experience of Tasmanian spirit, both in glass and in place.
Please note: we also offer take-home whisky packs for all designated drivers who wish to still be included on the tour.
Thanks for booking your tour with Old Kempton Distillery—we can’t wait to share the experience with you!
Just a quick reminder to wear comfy clothing and sturdy shoes for the tour. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call. Otherwise, we’ll see you soon!
While you’re here, don’t miss the chance to fill your own Old Kempton black steel flask with a limited-edition muscat release—available only at the distillery and only while stocks last. You’ll fill a 200ml flask, create your own personalized label, and walk away with a one-of-a-kind souvenir you can enjoy again and again.

Lunch was delightful with big servings and I can truly say we had a wonderful visit with only the best impressions.
Needless to say the different whisky array was comparable if not exceeding sometimes anything to come out of Scotland.
I ordered Mediterranean salad with home made dressing and chicken fillets
I got a salad of spinach capsicum tomato feta no dressing and frozen crumbed chicken fillets.
If you are going serve great drinks, like the one I had please get your food right!
Especially as a tourist destination
It’s not rocket science!
While he was on the tour, my mother and I looked forward to having a coffee and chat in one of the lovely rooms. It was disappointing to wait 45 minutes to receive a tepid coffee in a freezing room. The experience might have been helped with a crackling real fire on a cold winter's day.
Lunch was a beautiful charcuterie board, and went so well with the drams of whiskey. Looking forward to coming back on our next Tassie adventure!
Connor was a great tour guide, he really knew the history of the town and the venue and was super friendly, it really made our visit a great experience and we really enjoyed ourselves.
We also had lunch here and the house whisky beef pie was so delicious 🤤
Great value for money, would return on our next visit to Tasmania.
We purchased the 10 year old whisky to take home, smooth whisky and nice lingering flavour.
It’s awesome they offer the postage for your orders which will save extra weight in our bags on the way home.
Thanks again Connor & Old Kempton Team!
Really loved the history of the guy who built the distillery (can't remember his name, sorry!) and learning about the oaks, too.
The lounge with the tastings and the charcuterie board was a lovely touch. Thankful they offer gin tastings, too.
Our tour guide was a young man and very fun! Knows his stuff.
Beautiful property, too. Would recommend to anyone, even if they don't like whiskey. :)
A must do for anyone traveling the Midlands Highway.
P.S oh and the you must try the Apple Gin my wife was amazed how good - the whiskeys were crackers too.
The whisky is very well made and is a quality drop. There is quite a variety. Thoroughly recommend a visit
So being his birthday again today, I took him here again.
Was NOT HAPPY with the platter this time. It was not as good as previous, and not worth the money. There was no bread served (like the last time) just some dry crackers. I asked for some bread and was presented with 5 very tiny pieces of bread with melted butter.
Meats were sliced salmon, pastrami, gerkins (none of which I eat), some roast beef, tasteless button mushrooms, grapes, 2 types of cheese, dried tomatoes, fresh baby tomatoes, slices of pickled onion.
NO serviettes were available, and to top it all off, my partners beer wasnt cold.
Won't be supporting them again.
Staff were amazing.
The food divine and the drinks superb.
Plus live music, sunshine and laughter.
Thank you to everyone at Old Kempton Distillery. A place everyone should visit.
Highly reccomend this tour. And the Whisky is first class.
The setting is alone is very impressive, the tasting and tour was first class!!
We visited the the distillery and tried few whiskey and gins.
Everyone very friendly and passionate.
Must go not far from Hobart.
Thankyou OKD
John, the guide, was very knowledgeable. There is so much history in such a small heritage building. The tour and tasting definitely worth the money. The serving of the lunch/cheese platter was very generous as well as the whiskey tasting.
A definitely must to try place and you should not leave emtpy handed. We love their Solera cask batch #5. So much flavour and complexity.
My wife, 4yo, baby and I attended on the 12/07/2023. Our tour guide was Hannah. She was absolutely amazing and again I want to thank her here again for giving us such a great experience. We felt so welcomed and accommodated through out the whole tour. She is also very knowledgeable!
It was such a good experience that we will do it again in the future. Hannah is a valuable asset for Old Kempton Distillery.
We had a beautiful cheese board each along with a sampling of the Gin ,Whisky and Apple liquor.
Well worth a visit.
The determination to maintain a high quality and the advancement that has already taken place are admirable.
The on-site restaurant is a terrific place for a lunch, and the tour is interesting and educational.
We ordered the antipasto platter for two for lunch. It was truely amazing, with both lots of variety and food.
The young lady in the tasting room was also extremely friendly and helpful.
While the historic and beautiful property is the perfect location for the distillery, it is the staff that really made this a memorable experience.
