So many sharks and we were so lucky to see so many leopard sharks dancing together. The crew is amazing as well, thank you again!!
This is definitely must.
Don’t forget to bring seasick pills haha
Thank you so much. For sure, we gonna be back.
At wolf rock the dive conditions were pretty good for us, we felt lucky. We booked two days to increase our chance we could dive if one was cancelled. We we able to dive both days and it was well worth it.
Swell wasn't too much, current was medium. Vis was only about 8-10 meters but this just made for very atmospheric vibes as the sharks appear and float by quite close if you are being chill. A manta or two in the gloom and some very cool eagle rays were also about. Lots of big schooling fish. Also saw some whales on the boat back :)
Don't forget to look at the things on the rock, we saw some very cute little eels.
The dives themselves were great even though visibility wasn’t ideal (about 8-10m). We saw too many grey nurse sharks to count, mantas, a pair of eagle rays, and the rock formations themselves surprised with me their abundance of macro life, including some very pretty nudis and eels. At all times we were surrounded by schools of fish. It reminded me of the Galapagos and it’s easily one of the most impressive dive sites I’ve been to in Australia.
On the way back on day 1 we saw whales and they generously stopped the boat for a while so we could watch a baby whale enjoy itself in the afternoon sun (from a respectful distance).
Overall, they were a great crew to dive with. We knew ahead of time that there was a chance we couldn’t dive at all because the weather can be unpredictable but I’ll happily take my chances again because I can see how hard they work to make dives happen at this very special dive site. Highly recommend.
Mantas visit for a few months this time of year.
Huge bull rays, Eagle Rays, Whiprays and a few years back an Ornate Eagle ray.
Groupers, Leopard Sharks, Lion Fish, Clown Fish, plenty of Angels and lots and lots of Tropicals.
They had a Mola Mola a bit over a year ago and a Whale Shark (don’t come expecting to see either but they have been).
June last year we had Humpback accompany us back and understand there’s plenty of whales passing Wolf Rock going north and coming back.
This year James is also starting whale watching and unlike a lot of places the whales are very close.
So diving with Grey Nurses for sure and you never know what will be there and this Winter whale watching.
Such an amazing day and a friendly crew, thank you Jess, Jordan and James 🤿
(Don't forget your tablets if you've a tendency of sea sickness 😅)
Bumpy trip out but ample warning given by Jess and James!
Friendly crew and experienced professional dive team! Many thanks for an amazing experience.
My best scuba dive experience so far thanks them. Five stars for everything : service, rental gear, dive site,...
Thanks again for the beautiful memories! I recommend at 100% this dive if you are around Rainbow Beach.
Disclaimer: Matt was not paid to write this review, just sharing the love!!!
Splendid dives with the grey nurse sharks.
The only downside is the long boat ride, but it's definitely worth the effort.
Thanks for a great day out to the Wolf rock dive team, this was a special day, even for a crusty old dive vet like me. Cheers!

The dive itself is excellent with lots of grey nurse sharks and mantas if you are lucky! Recommend but try to hit a calm day. We did and loved it!
The trip departs from an inlet by Rainbow Beach (awesome place to stay btw), and goes out past K'Gari (Fraser Island of the dingo biting tourist's bottoms fame) and is a 40 - 50 min trip each way. Our trip was smooth on the way out and quite a bit rougher on the way home - but no problem for the boat or crew. The boat seemed capable and well looked after. It is an 8 or 9 metre pontoon boat.
Wolf Rock is a collection of rocks that has a resident population of Grey Nurse Sharks - at this time of the year is really just the pregnant females but at other times can have up to 150 sharks in the area. I guessed that there were 40 or 50 sharks around on the day.
The crew worked really hard for us, loading gear, changing tanks between dives, managing the boat, and guiding the dives, all without a word of complaint were happy and fun to be around. They were great. Hot soup and drinks and snacks were provided for us between the two dives. Communications with the shop were excellent before the trip and they happily delivered me back to Rainbow Beach campground afterwards.
For the diving, we were split into two groups based on experience and were guided throughout the dive. This is a requirement placed on Wolf Rock Dive as part of their concession to ensure that us visiting does not affect the sharks - but it was well done and not an issue at all. The sharks were incredible! The guides made and effort to position us where we could be very close to the sharks without bothering them e.g. waiting behind rocks known to be on the shark's "circuit".
The first group off the boat saw a Manta, but our group did not.
I did 15 dives while in Australia and for me this was the best of them.
They also took the time to explain everything thoroughly and answer any questions we had. Their expertise and knowledge of the local marine life really enhanced the experience, and we were lucky enough to see manta rays and nurse sharks during our dive.
What really stood out to me, though, was the personal touch that James, Jason, and Bailey brought to the experience. They were friendly, approachable, and made us feel welcome from start to finish. It's clear that they're passionate about what they do, and it shows in the way they interact with their customers.
Overall, I highly recommend Wolf Rock Dive Center for anyone looking to have an incredible diving experience. James, Jason, and Bailey are a fantastic team who truly care about their customers and go out of their way to make sure everyone has a great time. Thank you for such a memorable dive!
James the owner was awesome working away to make sure our dives were superb, boat was ideal for the location and conditions.
The dive was full of grey nurse sharks ????.
The crew were amazing as well. Shout out to our guide Jason who was very professional and a great guide.
Definitely will be back!
Professional, super nice team with very detailed explanations of procedure and dives, great organization before, during and after the dives and an unforgettable experience. In two different days I could enjoy a jump within a huge variety of big fish, not only the grey nurse sharks but plenty of marble rays, groupers, yellowtail, spotted eagle rays and much more, but also great subjects for macro with the help if Jason spostino them out.
The treats between the two dives were really nice and the chatting with a cold beer at the diving center has been the cherry over the pie of two great days.
Grazie ragazzi!!!!
Last year we had a blast and even though vis was not great at the time, we still made the most out of it and had a great time with lots of pregnant sharks coming very close to us.
Today we were spoiled!! Vis was so good and there was so much going on down there, that it was hard to pick a direction to focus on and admire and even record.
We also saw the sharks mating which was pretty cool!!! We were soooo lucky.
Lots of fish, nurse sharks, leopard sharks, rays, huge groupers, puffer fish (my fav) and many more.
Weather and surface conditions were unreal too!!
If you haven’t been here yet, what are you waiting for?
Come to dive at wolf rock, you will not only have an amazing experience and see lots of beautiful wild life but the team will make you feel very welcomed and look after you from minute one.
We can not thank them enough!! Very professional, knowledgeable, helpful and very good vibes and atmosphere.
We can’t wait to be back for more diving and many more good memories and experiences.
Thank you to all the team at wolf rock dive centre! You guys rock!!
See you soon!!
Sofia and Jonay
Would highly recommend diving with Wolf Rock, a dive I'll never forget for sure.
The instructors were excellent. We only had the open water diver and could do the extension to 28m. Everything was explained to us by the instructor and we felt very safe.
You could tell that Jasen made the dive for us customers to give us a great experience.
The equipment was also one of the best and highest quality so far.
In summary, highly recommended!!!
Probably unique the world over on its day.
Its like stepping back in time into a prehistoric fishtanks and your in it.
The best part are the people, James and Jason are accomodating, kind, knowledgeable and professional.
Cant speak highly enough or recommend any diver with good experience to get out there
My suggestion is to call and check with the owner whether the dive goes ahead, and do that multiple times.
I have travelled specifically to Rainbow Beach to do the Wolf Rock dive. I understand that diving is dependant on weather and conditions and am prepared for that eventuality, but this disaster was just purely due to unprofessional dive operator.
I checked with an email several days before whether due to covid and seasonal time the dives are going ahead. I was told yes, they only need 4 divers for the boat to go out.
Following that, I get confirmation emails including an email 2 days before the dive that I no longer cannot cancel the dive, the dive is to go ahead (apparently an automated system email).
I had no other communications. My mistake was not to call few days before and a day before but is that really up to me to ensure that dive goes ahead? I don't believe that this should be up to me.
I turn up on the day 8 AM, nobody is on premises. Was told by someone gardening around that the boat is not going ahead and that I should call the owner.
Call owner and was told that they have not been diving for few weeks now due to weather conditions, all the emails were just an automatic system responses. Owner was apologetic. Great, my 3 day trip could have been postponed, could have been cancelled, all the costs I incurred could have been saved. Meanwhile, I only got my refund for the dive itself.
Two weeks later I get another automated response from their system, telling me that a dive date on the following up date no longer could be cancelled. I have not booked that date, I have not changes any dates, it was basically unsolicited email. What kind of operations are they running? It was basically unprofessional. I hope they run the dives in different matter. I won't be back diving with this operator.
My suggestion to anyone booking dives and travelling specifically for that purpose - call and confirm. Several times ahead. I don't want you to have the same experience.
Easily one of the best dives in Australia. Grey nurse sharks everyday of the year, protected greenzone site also means tonnes of fish in big schools. Always a few other pelagics kicking about like rays and turtles and grouper. It's a must dive during a visit to Australia. Free beer after the dive, and awesome outdoor showers.
Lunch was a sandwich, fruit, cookies, lollies, soup. The boat wasn't large, but staff organised is into 2 groups to both dive and move around the boat, making best use of available space.
As for the dives, WOW! Super easy to drop onto the site with guide ropes, emergency weights and spare air tank. We were onto a turtle, sharks, grouper, nudibranchs, lionfish, clown fish & rays within the first few mins of our dives.
I had such a great day I've already decided to return ♥
We booked our dives 4 months ago so we were able then to secure flights to Brisbane and organize accommodation, hire car, airport parking and paid deposits for dives and accommodation and paid in full airport parking and hire car so it was all booked in and paid for, how much more secure does it need to be.
Well that's not good enough apparently for James the owner/operator. Instead, 15 days before we jump on a plane to have this amazing experience he rings and says that our dive has been cancelled because he can book the boat out to someone else . I've got a better offer !! so screw you !!
Apparently its Shark week and so it perfectly ok to cancel not only mine and my wife holiday, but also cancel the holidays of 5 other people as well so that James can get some free advertising. Obviously the sharks have only just found out in the last couple of days that they have a week named after then so they will all just turn up ?? What about your customers James ??????
Through this conversation l was subjected to name calling and abuse all because l questioned where his loyalty was to his clientele.
In the middle of the conversation he admitted that it would have been easier to just let us turn up and then tell us that there was something wrong with the motor and so its cancelled. He just show me right there and then how unprofessional Wolf Rock really was. This is the sort of character that is running this sham of a business.
One has to wonder why if this place has such amazing dive locations, why is he so quiet ? He need to listen and stop abusing his customers if they don't agree with him.
If you need to organize flights and accommodation to do this dive l would think twice about it. You also could be out of pocket quiet a lot of money. We have lost air fares, deposits on accommodation etc etc It works out at hundreds of dollars but James just didn't give a crap about it, as long as he's doing alright out of it.
Not unlike sean12345 who wrote a review on Oct. 2020 also complaining about the pathetic management of Wolf Rock Dive , I too am just waiting to hear the endless supply of reasons what gives justification to James to think its perfectly ok just cancel a family holiday because they got a better offer ..
If you have to organize flights and accommodation and you want to know for sure that you will receive what you paid for l would give this character a wide berth and look at dives with just as much to offer but with professional management, check out Southwest Rocks dive centre, Yongala Dive, North Stradbroke Island, all of these you will see what Wolf Rock will allow or not allow you to see .
Regards
Some one who you will never receive a red cent from again.
Super friendly staff, excellent rental gear !
Boat ride a bit choppy but so,so worth it !
Amazing wildlife at wolf rock ! Amazing experience and not to expensive!
Thanks Team wolf rock diving ! Keep on doing this great work !
