Overnewton Castle opens it’s doors every Wednesday for a fascinating tour of the first floor, led by our in-house guide – a deep dive into Keilor’s colourful history, and immaculately maintained heritage architecture.

Welcome to Overnewton Castle a Scottish Baronial style Homestead, situated in Keilor Village, 20 mins drive from Melbourne CBD. You are invited to take a trip back in time, with our knowledgeable tour guide, who will lead you through the lower level of the estate, and it’s stunning gardens.
Built by William Taylor in 1849, a prominent early settler, the venue still features much of it’s original fixtures, and has been carefully maintained for 175 years. This is a truly fascinating journey back in time, where you will get to know that families that lived on the estate, and learn about Keilor’s busy history as a key stopover during the Goldrush era of the 1850s.
Morning Tour 11am – 60 minutes duration
Complete your visit with an elegant high tea, which is perfectly timed (12pm) to take place after the tour. High Tea bookings must be made 24 hours in advance.

A few stories, a few laughs and an insight into our history. Followed by high Tea which was of very high standard. A glass of sparkling wine, sandwiches, savouries, scones, macaroons, tea and coffee. It was delicious. We strolled the gardens to walk it off afterwards.

They were absolutely charming, a delight to our eyes.

As we enjoyed the food, we savoured delicious savory treats, pies, and club sandwiches, all while sipping champagne. We all agreed that it had been a wonderfully satisfying day, although with a touch of ambivalence. We were surrounded by the mid-19th century world of the castle, yet airplanes were flying overhead, reminding us of the present day.

The team were very helpful with the request to reschedule for one of the regular monthly weekend high teas. The environment is lovely and it is very popular. Vegetarians can also be accommodated and if you can’t eat all the delights on offer you can take them home. Lastly the scones are huge!

We arrived to a private room which we were not expecting and a warm welcome from the staff. 

Food was excellent and plenty of it. Service was fantastic. 

Thank you to the team at Overnewton Castle for making the celebration perfect.

This is our second high tea at Overnewton Castle and I am sure it will not be our last.

A humble yet charming baronial castle in the suburbs of Melbourne where high tea mixes child hi-jinks. Strangely in harmony with each other.

We enjoyed a beautiful Melbourne afternoon at Overnewton Castle. Firstly with a tour of the castle followed by a delicious high tea.

The tour gave us a fascinating insight into the origins and history of the castle and the families that lived there. You might be lucky and chance upon a tour given by a family member of the current owners.

The High Tea was delightful. A glass or two of champagne, 3 varieties of scones and a high tea tower of sweet & savoury delights and as much tea as you can drink' And the most lovely of staff attending upon you during high tea. They were warm & happy to serve you. This add another level to our afternoon.



Over all a wonderfully pleasant & entertaining Melbourne afternoon. We would thoroughly recommend Overnewton castle.

We went ot Overnewton Castle for  a High Tea to celebrate both Mother's Day & our Mums' birthdays. I love a HIgh Tea and was not dissapointed. Great staff, oddles of food and frequently replenished tea & coffee not to mention champers (mine with OJ) on arrival. In fact so much food that the very freindly staff brought around paper bags for the left overs. We had scones a plenty to take home with us!! Gorgeous period decor and lovely gounds. We will be back. Quite a treat.  It cost $90 pp but you really got your monies worth. Highly recommeded experience.

You can clearly see what a labour of love this is and how well looked after the house and gardens are. The tour was so interesting, we loved hearing about the houses origins and the lady running the tours grew up in the house so had all kinds of fabulous stories for us. We then enjoyed a lovely high tea after in what once was the drawing room. Will definitely be back to visit!

A great and beautiful property to  enjoy  high tea with family and friends. The savouries and cakes were beautifully presented and delicious washed down with an excellent champagne serving.

Absolutely loved the tour of the castle which was presented by the current owner of the property. The historical events of the property was explained to us so detailed and in a knowledgeable manner. Well worth a visit for any occasions and for interstate and overseas visitors wanting to  enjoy some history of the home and the area.

My wife and I visited Overnewton for high tea and a tour of the Castle and gardens.

High tea was served in a beautiful, light filled dining room overlooking the croquet lawn and magnificent gardens (which featured a massive and historically significant Oak tree planted well over 100 years ago!).

High tea was delicious with a fine assortment of tasty treats - the scones with raspberry jam and clotted cream were a stand-out! The staff members serving tea were very cheerful and friendly.

The tour was conducted by two of the owners of the Castle. They provided a most interesting and entertaining account of the Castle's remarkable history (which dates back to the mid 19th century).  In addition, they also provided fascinating details of the work being done to research the Castle's history and to furnish the many rooms with items that were contemporary with mid to late 19th century stately mansions.

I fully recommend visiting Overnewton and indulging in an afternoon of fine dining and being immersed in the history of what surely must be one of Melbourne's most interesting and grand old homes.

The food was excellent and we were waited on by delightful young people. The view from the dining room was spectacular. The owner's daughter gave us a very good tour of the house including bedrooms. She was very much tuned in to the history of the castle and surrounding. I can't recommend Overnewton Castle enough. If you catch a cab from the city it costs about $65 each way.

I loved the tour and learning more about the history of the Castle and the families that made it their home.  The gardens are spectacular.  I enjoyed a lovely High Tea after the tour. Winning the competition to attend was a lovely surprise, and we appreciated being chosen to win the competition for the castle idea to celebrate the castle's 175-year history – and hopefully we get an invite to the celebrations. 🙌 🎉 🥂 🍾 



The high tea was scrumptious, the service was top-notch, and the surroundings were breathtaking. We loved dressing up for the occasion (our wedding attire got a fun second outing!) and felt like royalty for the day. Expect the menu to be changed from that which was advertised when you booked . The changes were disappointing.  Lovely venue and effort was made to make give it Christmas spirit.

The venue is unique, the staff were very attentive and the three course lunch was well presented and very much enjoyed.

I’m sure we shall return.

Wonderful venue, very efficient and courteous staff. Excellent meal and very well presented. Was not rushed to have the meal as each serving  was enjoyed to the fullest. Will return in the future.
