The Fernleigh Track is a popular 15km rail trail, allowing cyclists to travel through pleasant bushland and wetlands discovering rail relics of days-gone-by.

In this immersive cycling experience you will learn about Newcastle and Lake Macquarie’s rail history through numerous railway relics preserved throughout its length. Riders can expect a leisurely ride with welcoming rest areas dotted along the path, mixed in with former train stations as we pass through notable local suburbs.

The Fernleigh Track also has a very significant Awabakal history, with forests, wetlands and an ancient sand dune system mixed with plenty of unique flora and fauna as the landscape changes throughout the ride.

Photo opportunities are plentiful as we discover the infamous Fernleigh Tunnel, Whitebridge, Redhead and Jewells Stations. If time allows we will stop for a coffee somewhere off the beaten track subject to tour duration and time of day.

This tour is bookable by request and is subject to availability. Please note that the tour fee remains the same regardless of the participation of 1 – 8 riders. Newy Rides has up to 4 x geared bikes available for this experience. Riders are encouraged to bring their own well-maintained bikes in this experience.

Note: Guests should bring their own water bottle. There are refilling stations throughout the ride. Newy Rides bikes have an adjustable water bottle holder on the frame.

Waiver

A few things to remember:

  • Meet me at Adamstown Station at our agreed start time (see attached file)

  • Ensure your bike is ready for a 30km ride i.e. pump, spare tube and lights (if necessary)

  • Wear closed toe shoes

  • Bring a bottle of water (and a backup if you need it)

  • Review our trip notes and FAQs online

  • Please check your messages on the day of the tour should we need to adapt

Standard cancellation policy For a full refund, cancel at least 7 days before the experience is scheduled to start or within 24 hours of purchase. Rescheduling You can reschedule the date or time of your experience (or add or remove guests) within 24 hours of booking, and up to 72 hours before the experience is scheduled to start. If you reschedule an experience, the cancellation policy is based on the original purchase time and original start date of the experience. Cancellations due to weather If weather creates a safety concern, either before or during the experience, we may cancel the experience/tour. If this happens, you will be fully refunded (less any hard incurred expenses during the experience)
