The drinks and food were fantastic.
Highly recommend for a day out.
One of the most impressive aspects of the visit is discovering the range of cactus-based products available. From unique items like cactus wine and cactus flower honey to decorative and collectible grafted cacti, there’s something to delight every visitor. These products highlight the versatility and sustainability of this remarkable plant family.
Beyond the plants themselves, the place also offers educational value. It provides insights into how cacti thrive in the harshest environments and showcases the adaptability of nature. It also connects visitors with various organizations and enthusiast groups, creating opportunities to learn, share, and explore deeper interests. Whether you’re a plant lover, nature enthusiast, or curious traveler, this destination offers a truly enriching experience.
And do not forget to take photos at photo booths and selfy points with these beautiful plats.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the place was clean and well organised.
The only downside was the number of flies, but honestly, that’s just part of being in the great outdoors—something we needed to accept.
After having such a great time here and also at The Paddock at Ulupna, we’ll definitely be back again someday!
We stayed in the area and made a weekend of it, it's too far and not worth a day trip only from Melbourne. Highly recommend staying over to make it worth the far drive.
The on-site cafe serves decent, though relatively expensive, food; the cactus cake and ice cream is an acquired taste that I hadn't acquired, but was interesting to try.
Scenery was amazing!
We were very grateful they had vegan options as I am dairy free although a few menu items were sold out.
Seen a snake on the path so definitely something to keep in mind if you take small children or dogs with you. We told as many people as we could but the staff had no protocols in place to be able to alert everyone
We had the cactus cake with ice-cream which was delicious.
Such an amazing experience, the staff are incredible.
The cactus cocktail was amazing! Hubby rates the cake also!
This has been on my to-do list for a few years and I regret not coming much earlier.
Amazing ace, could easily have spent half a day there (we spent 1.5hrs due to running on a very tight schedule that day).
The entry ticket of $22.50/adult was very reasonable.
Thanx again Julie for our visit....... Hope to see you again soon
We walked through most of it with our four kids, only skipping a little. There were plenty of interesting textures and shapes but it was very hot mid afternoon in summer. We enjoyed sitting in the air conditioned cafe afterwards though.
We ordered tickets online. The only benefit to this would be potentially a cheaper price.
There wasn't as much variety of plants for sale as I thought there might be. Perhaps Christmas had something to do with that. I would've like to see more cute cactus merchandise for souvenirs, or cactus themed art/craft.
The orange cactus cake and ice cream was nice. The ice cream was mildly fruity but lovely with the orange cake.
The decor is a Mexican theme throughout with Mexican music in the main building.
Some pathways have cactus growing over the path so be careful. Some signs were a bit dilapidated and difficult to read.
Signage throughout with snippets of info about the plants you're looking at would be an improvement. There is a guidebook of some sort if you scan a QR code, if you like doing that sort of thing.
The little hut on the hill gives a nice view and a reprieve from the heat.
Baby change table in women's toilets. Decent bathroom facilities.
You can see donkeys in the fields too.
We were here at the opening time of 10 am and were the only visitors during the next 30 minutes, before a few other customers arrived. We walked across the entire garden and were the only ones during most of the walk. By the time we finished, there were a lot more people in the garden. Very glad we were early.
the staff were efficient from getgo processes entry quick and easy. the grounds are layed out beautifully and easy acess to all cacti and succulents. spring is when the grounds shine with an abundance of colours that will touch your heart with joy! food was ordinary though nachos needed more flavour and choices limited, overall i would definately recommend a visit to expierence the beauty of the country its uniqueness and feel of transporting you to Mexico.
Nice place to spend sometime with the family.
Parking facilities, cafeteria and toilets facilities available
They charge $20 per adult and $10 per child.
Sure the cactus is interesting but not that much.
Similarly the cactus desserts on offer were expensive.
I adored my trip to Cactus Country. I had reservations about what was behind the fence and how much enjoyment would you get from large priapic objects. Well, I have first hand experience now and I can assure that this place is more inviting than one would anticipate.
Huggable? er maybe not. Squeezable? er maybe not. Sensory hmmm to ones perception yes. But I would not be reaching out to have a first hand encounter with most specimens.
We had a business seminar at this location, part of that was to do a quick garden tour. We also were able to use their facilities, we had lunch here and the owner Julie, not only invited us in, she told us their story how they came to be. Where the dream started, what prickled them and how they flourished.
Everything about this location sang to me I will return, I am not sure when but for the moment, I have taken a cactus home to love it, to cherish it and to well, obey it. I will respect its need for privacy and respect that it doesn't like public displays of affection.
Thank you being part of my experiences, Cactus Country.
Tips : better come during weekdays. we came on Wednesday bcos they close Monday & Tuesday plus we choose visit time before lunch time so you can take pictures and enjoy with not many peoples around yet ????
What an awesome time we had at Cactus Country - photos do not do this destination justice!
From the moment we arrived the staff were super friendly and genuinely welcoming.
Entry fee was $20 per adult to enter and we felt it was well worth the experience - especially as they are still working on expanding this attraction.
The grounds themselves are so vast and take a while to take in (who knew there were so many different varieties of cacti), so would recommend it also for families as the kids we saw were really enjoying it.
They also have a cafe on site where they even serve Cactus Cake so will check that out next time for sure!
Would 100% recommend stopping here. Not just for the Insta friendly location but for its uniqueness!
I adore cactus and succulents, I have so many at home but for some reason our visit felt both underwhelming & overwhelming at the same time. The scale of cactus gardens is impressive but you unfortunately get overstimulated by the scale of cactus due to areas not being well landscaped or mapped out so one section literally looks like the next and the next and so forth. If garden paths were better laid out it may have offered a better experience and distinction from one area to the next and there are no signs in each area telling you what each cactus is, no stories about the farm so the experience felt a bit soulless. Maybe this information was available via the online map but given the scale of the venue and the glare from sun the last thing you want to do was to have your phone out. It was kind of like going to the zoo but having no descriptions or indicators of what animals you were seeing or where they came from or what their story was so you’re left you to guess what you are seeing. There were literally no signs, no stories, no depth as to what you were seeing and there was a lot to see. The place also felt very run down, something Instagram does not capture.
This place has huge potential and we were glad to have visited but to make it a place you may wish to come back to, it definitely needs some soul available to visitors, something as simple as signage within the garden to tell people what cactus they are looking at, disclosing the history behind the garden within each section discovering something new within that story - That would have made the visit more memorable and given the opportunity to then tell family and friends the story of where we had been. Instead the only thing I could say when asked how our visit went was that I was glad to have visited, things felt run down and soulless and that there was no real distinction from one area to the next despite there supposedly being a good 5 different areas indicated by staff. We could not tell the differences between the areas.
Photo opportunities are plentiful, no bad photos could be taken but unfortunately a photo does not show a true reflection of the experience. We took a lot of photos which is why we were able to stay at the gardens so long (1.5 hours) but as we were all on our phones taking photos it felt like an unsocial interaction, kind of like when you go out to dinner with that friend that must take the perfect shot of the food before you’re allowed to eat. The 1.5 hour visit kind of felt like that unfortunately because everyone had their phones out and the funny or sad thing was everyone we saw there was doing the same thing. In a group but solo taking photos. If there were signs around the gardens you could at least read about garden history, cactus type etc, this could have offered opportunities where everyone could come together and learn about the gardens together. Had we not had our phones out we probably could have walked the gardens in a good 30 minutes.
The cactus plant sales nursery was also very underwhelming as plants available were very small, very expensive and was not a good reflection of what we had just seen out in the gardens. It was not a nursery abundant in plants, it was kind of like going to a market stall and only having 10 small plants to choose from. The shop was also very small, soaps on sale were dusty, one had a dead fly on top of it and skin care products that were very pricey but no samples available so the skincare bottles were also very dusty as I’d imagine no one was buying these due to no samples on offer.
Inside the cafe was bright and fun, exactly like what you see on Instagram but this space only makes up a good 10% of the scale of cactus country. The cactus gardens unfortunately does not share the same energy as the interior areas.
Cactus country is a perfect location for those wishing to take the perfect shot for social media or those curious about the gardens based on what they may have seen on social media. Definitely a place worth seeing just that once and maybe in future we’d come back if things were designed to take in the soul of this place because after reading the history of the gardens on the cactus country website (we only read this after our visit) this place definitely has soul, it just can’t be seen on the grounds of the garden yet.
Hopefully this review can be seen as a constructive true reflection of our visit experience and is in no way created to put people off attending these gardens. We are grateful for the experience we really do hope to visit this place again one day as there is so much potential here.
We have also tried their slushie and cactus cake.with ice cream. The only negative experience we had was waiting for our nachos for more than 45 minutes and when we decided to have it for takeaway due to the long wait, they don't have takeaway container.
