It's a must! If you're ever in Mt Isa make sure you take the tour. Steve the tour guide will tell you all the mining stories with passion having worked in the industry for years. You can put your hands on equipment and you will also get a nice souvenir to take home. It may sound expensive but it's well worth the money.

Mt Isa Hard Times mine tour Steve was our tour guide and the stories he told after so many years experience in the mine were fabulous. Gave us a real insite to how mining has evolved over the years.

My first underground mine experience I loved the stories from Steve :). All the information was very interesting and it was pretty cool being able to interact with the machinery.

Well worth every cent. We did the Hardtimes Mine Underground tour at Mount Isa and Ian was our guide who was excellent and had loads of information about the mine and the art of mining. He was very happy to answer our many questions too. We found the the tour very enjoyable and interesting. We would highly recommend this tour, a must when visiting Mount Isa. Hopefully you will get Ian.

Bush tucker and overall tourist centre amenity We did the museum , mine and bush tucker experience. The staff were all fantastic. In particular, though we wanted to highlight the bush tucker experience. So much knowledge, a guide that tailored the experience for kids and adults alike. Wow so much knowledge imparted and so enlightening Just thought it was fabulous

This centre is a credit to the city. There are so many things to do here at the visitors centre. The Bushtucker Experience is great with an engaging Aboriginal guide and the native plant gardens are beautiful. The Riversleigh fossil tour gives you an incredible insight into the ancient life of Australia. We had a very professional young indigenous guide who was exceptionally knowledgeable and informative. The displays of the city's history, mining, rocks and gemstones is unequalled. Didn't get to do the underground mine tour or the indigenous art course, will do it next time. Well done Mt Isa!

Bush Tucker Tour We had bush tucker tour with Mathew, I went with family and it was very interesting. Learning about the different things that were used to help injuries and health etc, as well as seeing what the people before us ate to stay alive and healthy. As well as learning what each fruit or leaf had a purpose into their culture. And afterwards got showed more things like spears and other things they made with what they had. 100000/10 so good really loved it

Visit Mount Isa's Information Centre! A must! This is a fantastic exhibition and certainly should not be missed when visiting Mount Isa! Both the minerals display and historic exhibits plus narrative, as well as the Riversleigh Fossil Centre are excellently set up and very informative!
I have enjoyed it immensely!

Brilliant tourist facility This place is fantastic. It's got the Ruversleigh fossil lab and displays, photographic history of 100 years of Mt Isa in one hundred photos, a permanent display of the city's indigenous, mini g, social and rodeo history and the miners have developed a real mine underground with a 3+ hour tour explaining the technology involved both now and in the past. You could easily spend 3 whole days in the one building.

Mt. Isa bush tucker tour Our Bush Tucker tour with Mathew was excellent. Bush tucker was great to taste but would have liked to experience more eg Widgety Grub.
Mathew’s knowledge, wisdom, experience and demeanour was so enticing and left me with a very good understanding of the aboriginal culture.

Enjoyable 3 hours at the "OUTBABCK at ISA" Heard it was a must see when visiting Mount Isa, no disappointment as our tour guide Ian was very knowledgeable and the front line staff very polite. Ian answered every question from the group and explained everything in a way that it was easy to understand.
Definitely worth the 3 hour tour.
At the Cafe which has a good selection of food with coffee that stays hot.

Amazing Outback at Isa I am a Tour Host for Fun Over Fifty Holidays and we bought a group of guests out for the Bush Tucker experience which was fabulous! Our guide Matthew was so informative about all the bush tucker with a great sense of humour and full of incredible stories from elders past. All the staff were amazing including Carrol Edna Michelle and manager Martin at Outback at Isa! Highly recommended

Fossils We went on the riverslea fossil tour. I can’t recommend it enough. Edna was our guide and her enthusiasm for the subject material was contagious. Very knowledgeable. The displays were well presented and informative. We met Carrol in the sorting room and got an insight into how the fossils are preserved and categorised.

Bush tucker garden walk Amazing tour with Uncle Matt! Full of so much knowledge ! He took us around a tour of the gardens! I wish it could have been longer than an hour!

Amazing and insightful Carol was an amazing guide. We learnt a lot about the History of the Kalkadoon people and really enjoyed learning the different types of bush tucker.

Eye opening experience & great way to spend a day in My Isa Bush Tucker tour with Mathew was amazing! So we much information about edible plants and bush medicine that we see everyday in our landscape. Thank you Matt for sharing your family's story and heritage.

We also done the fossil tour with Edna. She is super enthusiastic about her work and has so many amazing stories to tell about the evolution of Australian mammals. Thank you so much for being so accommodating of my furry friend also

Wonderful experience at the Riversleigh Fossil Centre Visiting Isa at the Outback is essential, great exhibitions and best of all was the Riversleigh Fossil Centre. The guided tour was the best I ever experienced. Alan Rackman was the guide and his professionalism, enthusiasm and experience made all the difference. What a wonderful guide! I knew nothing about Riversleigh before I went and straight after the tour I bought the book online as I was just that excited about the topic! Well done Alan and his trainee guides Edna and Carol. Now I can’t wait to visit the actual Riversleigh!

A must stop in Mt.Isa Mount Isa Visitor Information Centre (Outback at Isa) conveniently located within short walking distance from Mt.Isa city centre. It is a must place to visit. Friendly and knowledgeable staff will give you a local advice and help to plan your time in the area.
There are maps & brochures available as well as small souvenir shop and a cafe.
It is not just an information centre. It also hosts a few biggest Mt.Isa attractions as well.
1 - The Isa Experience - An interesting & informative display about the history of the area with many unique exhibits from "old times", minerals collection & a few short video documentaries. It also has a lovely gardens with pond & small waterfall surrounded by bushes & palms. Until you see it you wouldn't believe such an oasis exists in the middle of the outback! If you have time, do not just rush through these small gardens. Have a seat in the shade on some of the plentiful benches near the pond & relax listening to the sounds of running water & chirping of the numerous birds. Bring a book or a cup of tea/coffee & just enjoy the tranquility of the place. I found it to be the most peaceful and safe place in Mt. Isa.
2 - The Hard Times Mine Tour can be purchased as part of The Isa Experience.
3 - Riversleigh Fossil Centre (and Laboratory tour), another interesting, educational and fun experience.
I really enjoyed my visit to "Outback at Isa" & very grateful to all staff members who were so friendly, helpful & patient. It is obvious they love the place they live & the job they do. I only wish the tickets officially allowed the entrance to attractions for a few days (they will let you in if you ask, but I would feel more comfortable if it was "officially" as part of the ticket).
Highly recommend to all visitors of the region to visit "Outback at Isa".

Interesting experience Visited this before we did the hard mines tour so got to learn a bit about the area's history. Greta little cafe too

only 1 person working The exhibition was good, but the waterfall outside was not working and the information section only had one person working .

The first place you should visit in Mt Isa This institution is Mt Isa’s premier tourist attraction and incorporates the Information Centre. The precinct also includes the Riversleigh Fossil Discovery Centre, the Outback Park Botanical Walk, Rodeo Hall of Fame and the Hard Times mine, among other things.
The ideal place to visit to get the feel of the city and its surrounds before venturing anywhere. It is possible to spend a full day here and still want more.
All staff we approached were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

Lovely people, great tours Great tours and friendly , helpful staff. Did the mine tour with Ian and the fossil tour with Ross. When you do the fossil tour make sure you have a guide so you see the laboratory and have all the exhibits explained .
Aubrey then gave us a map and pointed out all the places to visit. Nice souvenir tshirts and singlets as well. Loved our visit.
