Fitzroy Island is an absolute hidden gem, which I am glad I found. I had such an amazing time and was blown away by how friendly and cheerful every staff member was. However, It can’t be easy operating a hotel on a remote island and national park. I saw a few bad reviews which I think people need to be a bit more realistic around the value for money and the environment there visiting. It’s awesome to see your investing in renovating and keeping the treasure running :) I hope to be back again soon. Make sure to shout out to your amazing staff especially the Canadian lady at the bar :)

Fun family day out! We booked the morning session and it was perfect. Not too hot and not too chilly! Ferry itself was pretty relaxed and not super lengthy. The island was breathtaking! Beautiful walks/hikes & beaches! Definitely recommend :)

This place could be so amazing! We stayed at Fitzroy Island Resort as a small group to celebrate a birthday and had three separate bookings. Overall, we had an enjoyable stay and can see the resort has amazing potential, but a few improvements would make a big difference to the guest experience.

Foxys Bar & Café has a great island vibe, but the service system needs attention. Long lines could be avoided with QR code ordering, and the current process of calling out numbers over a muffled microphone was confusing. Table buzzers didn’t work, so handing them out felt pointless. A separate line for food and drinks would improve flow, and simple additions like vanilla and chocolate milkshakes would be great for families.

Zephyr Restaurant had lovely staff and dinner service was warm and professional, but the eye fillet was overpriced for what was served—just a piece of meat with no sides. The breakfast buffet offered a great variety of food and we were impressed with the quality and freshness. However, the layout made it difficult to move around, there was nowhere to rest a plate while serving, and the coffee situation really let it down. The coffee machine constantly malfunctioned and the queue was so long that we missed out on coffee altogether. Salt and pepper were not available on tables, which should be standard. A barista coffee option and a better layout would greatly improve the experience.

Reception was unfortunately the weakest part of our stay. The desk area looked dusty and neglected, and there were fingerprints and grime around the sliding staff entry door. First impressions matter, and reception needs to be cleaner and better presented to reflect resort standards.

We also requested to have our rooms close together as we were travelling for a birthday, but we were placed in rooms far apart (225, 124 and 218). We understand availability plays a part, but it would have been appreciated if the request had been acknowledged. The beds in all rooms were also extremely firm and uncomfortable, and mattress toppers would be a simple fix for guest comfort.

On the positive side, the snorkel gear was excellent—far better quality than other reef operators we’ve used—and the dinner team at Zephyr were standout staff. Foxys staff were also friendly and worked well under pressure.

We did enjoy our time on Fitzroy Island and would return, but we hope management takes these suggestions on board. With a few small changes, this resort could go from good to truly fantastic.

Needs a big clean up! Came for a birthday celebration and was disappointed that so many overseas holiday makers would have such a poor view of Australia and Queensland. The place was very run down and island was full of rubbish, derelict buildings, loads of asbestos, lots of missing tiles in pools and discarded building materials. The location is excellent and I guess people will come because of that so they don't try to make it world class. Staff were very young and cheerful but sadly in need of guidance, organisation and better training. Literally forgot our meals at the Zephyr restaurant They say 24hr reception but they nick off to party when they can. Check-in is on line technically but you still have to go through the whole process again and wait in line for ages to get a key as everyone arrives at the same time and only two team members serve the long line.

Beautiful island, terrible resort The boat broke down, staff are rude, our room wasn’t ready to check into at 3pm which is already ridiculously late considering check out is by 10am. Fridge wasn’t cold and the resort is run down and needs a lot of renovations done. Buffet is disgusting and 1 star motel quality. Foxy’s very overpriced and staff really don’t want to be there. Overall it has so much potential but so disappointing.

A Disappointing Experience That Did Not Meet Expectations I recently stayed at Fitzroy Island Resort with the intention of supporting a local business and enjoying a relaxing holiday. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing across multiple areas.

On arrival, I encountered an unannounced 15% Sunday surcharge, which was not communicated beforehand and set a poor tone regarding transparency. Despite completing the online check-in process as advised, I was informed it had no effect and was required to queue as normal — undermining the purpose of digital check-in.

My room was not ready until after 5:00 PM, despite being told it would be ready by 3:00 PM. When I was first given access, the room had not been serviced and was in an unacceptable state. Additionally, I was surprised to find that no coffee or refreshments were available to guests until 5:30 PM, and there were no alternative amenities offered.

Cleanliness around the resort was substandard, with used dishes left overnight in public areas and poorly maintained grounds. Dining at Foxy’s Bar was also underwhelming, with basic meals, subpar presentation, and another surcharge applied. The early closure of the resort bar and lack of guest-focused planning further detracted from the experience.

Most disappointing was the attitude of several staff members, who appeared disinterested and unhelpful. Requests were frequently met with "No, sorry" and little effort was made to provide alternatives or resolve issues.

Regrettably, I cannot recommend Fitzroy Island Resort based on this experience. The operational and service shortcomings overshadowed what should have been an enjoyable stay.

Grumpy staff Some of the staff were pretty rude nd grumpy considering theyre working in such a beautiful place. The island was lovely however time for a serious upgrade and clean up of the boats and resort.

Poor customer service . For a 4 and half star resort , we had a very disappointed 40th and 21st birthday celebrations.
We would not recommend this resort , the customer service and low empathy was the worse we have experienced in a birthday holiday.

Island paradise Relaxing vibes and a top class diner make this island an absolutely magical place to unwind. Spend a few days and enjoy the marine and bird life. We hiked to the summit and were blown away at the vistas from the top.

Tired resort in a stunning location Resort is looking quite tired but location is stunning and makes up for what the resort lacks. Cracked tiles in my room and around the resort. Water pressure and temperature in my room was severely lacking. Staff in the resort, restaurant and Foxy's Bar were all wonderful and helpful. I chose to return to Fitzroy on this trip knowing the resort itself was tired simply because of the island itself. It is a stunning beach with plenty of sea life to be seen.

Pacific Island paradise just off the coast of Cairns What an amazing destination and holiday, we spent everyday for a week swimming with turtles and fish on some colorful reef. The island is an hour by ferry from Cairns all organised by the resort, an easy trip both ways well handled by the crew. The resort is beautiful and considering its location is well maintained. We stayed in an island suite which was spacious and comfortable. The selection of food and drink was great, prices are in line with the mainland which considering you are on an island and everything has to be delivered by ferry is a pleasant surprise. Anyone reading this and considering visiting just do it but remember reef shoes and sunscreen are a must, this is a coral island not soft white sand and the sun will burn you to crisp even on a cloudy day.

The location is outstanding. There’s a dive shop to rent snorkel gear and we had a great time on our own. We also went for the safari and saw a huge turtle and some massive corals. The rooms are a bit old but comfortable. The restaurants have great views but food options can be better, especially vegan and vegetarian options.

DONT bother! Mother nature is the only thing worth visiting on Fitzroy. The resort was old, mouldy on ceiling and grout in bathrooms, falling apart ( holes in curtains, towel rails falling off, smashed light fittings) marks all over walls, tiles and soap scum through bathroom, leaking balcony roof that had rusted through, guests smoking on room balconies and a general health hazard due to lack of maintenance and care.

The best !!!! Always love coming and staying on Fitzroy island!!!! 🙂☀️ perfect with friends or family! Would highly recommend coming to visit 👌

Well, let me start by saying the island itself is incredible. Beautiful beaches, clear blue water, turtles, coral, fish galore. Lovely even on a cloudy day!
Anyone visiting even for the day should be advised to bring reef shoes to walk along the beach as the main beach has more coral than sand!
Now, the resort itself, for the price you pay you definitely expect a better level of cleanliness and maintenance in the rooms. So many things falling apart, broken floor tiles, loose door handles, mouldy ceilings, cracked door frames, the list goes on!
Food options are so, so limited, especially for kids and anyone vegetarian, vegan, gluten free etc. There’s either Foxy’s which honestly isn’t the nicest (equivalent of a basic pub meal) and then there’s Zephyr’s which is quite fancy and not overly suitable for children. The only vegetarian option is Gnocchi for the adults and Mac and Cheese for the kids. That’s it. Over at Foxy’s for vegetarian kids the only option is hot chips. The general store is super limited and doesn’t even sell bread anymore to be able to make a sandwich in your room.
If you have any form of a dietary requirement, you’re better off stocking up a suitcase with food in Cairns and doing your own thing in your room.
For these reasons we probably wouldn’t come back for more than a day trip. Disappointing when paying $700 a night. It’s a shame because there’s so much that could be done to turn the resort into something fantastic.

Beautiful spot, lovely staff The cheapest rooms are quite ok but lack a view. You can walk a few paces to an awesome view so it doesn't really matter!

Tropical paradise, with a little rough around the edges. Fantastic little tropical paradise, snorkeling at its best..got to swim with turtles and stingrays. Lovely food, room a little dull and dark but at the back of the hotel. Would recommend.

Family Wedding We were guests at a family wedding, this was an ideal location, our room was beautiful, the food amazing and the staff very accommodating.

Aside from the amazing facilities, and the stunning nature this island has to offer, the customer service of the resort staff is top tier. I recently stayed, and quite annoyingly left my shoes in my room. The staff very helpfully were able to get the shoes on a boat back to cairns, and on top of that found somewhere for them to be kept as I wasn’t able to pick them up directly from the boat. To be honest, I thought this would be too much to ask, given I only had a day to work with, however they managed to get it done for me!

Exceeded expectations Weather was brilliant, views were sensational and beaches were fantastic. Snorkelling was better than 3 Low Isle trips we have done from Port Douglas- fish were beautiful and turtles could be found every morning! Water was warm and clear. Nature at her best!

A Hidden Gem! We had a faultless experience at the Fitzroy Island Resort. The Island Suite was much larger than we expected - with stunning views. The island was breathtaking - the snorkeling is very good. We were lucky enough to encounter a turtle just in front of the resort.

We can’t wait to visit again!

Room felt like it was lacking maintenance and didn’t have the cleanliness and quality you would expect for the price. While we were staying at the resort it was undergoing maintenance/minor refurbishments. Staff were okay nothing exceptional and nothing bad. Location is amazing, has a couple of great walks and great snorkelling with lots of large fish, turtles and coral.

Extremely disappointing experience at Fitzroy Island Resort. My friends and I arrived on Sunday, September 3rd, with a confirmed reservation to camp — excited and ready for a relaxing girls’ weekend. But just minutes after getting off the ferry, the General Manager, Dallas Bickle, approached us with an aggressive attitude and told us to leave the campground immediately. No explanation, no respect.

We later found out our reservation had been cancelled without warning, simply because another group with minors had booked, and suddenly “no one else was allowed to camp.” We were given two unfair choices:
1. Get a refund and leave the island — after taking time off work and traveling all the way from Port Douglas.
2. Pay extra to stay in a bungalow — which by law, should have been offered to us at no extra cost since the mistake was theirs.

We spent over two hours trying to resolve this at reception. The bungalow we were forced to take wasn’t properly cleaned, lacked pillow covers, and our belongings were delayed.

We lost our precious time and energy on something that should’ve been handled with basic professionalism and respect.
This was one of the worst customer service experiences we’ve had — and it happened in a place that’s supposed to be a paradise.

We stayed at this resort in August, which has only its unique location to envy, which we can only thank the island for. The resort seems poorly maintained, as if the people who run it don't care. We entered the room, there was a pill on the floor, a dirty handkerchief under the bed, and hairs in the bathroom. We notified reception at 3:00 am when we entered, they apologized and told us someone would come to clean, which never happened, and at 6:00 pm when we returned to the room it was the same as before. We repeated this to reception and she said she would call again, but at that point we wanted to enjoy the room we paid for and not sit outside waiting for it to be cleaned. It was a terrible experience, a shame, but if it were run by people with great ideas, it would be a luxury resort.

Great snorkeling Lovely coral on the snorkel trip at Shark Bay and off the beach in front of the resort. Nice views from the walk to the summit. Not much sound insulation between rooms and our shower was badly in need of a decent clean, but other than that we enjoyed our stay.

Unbeatable location, plus the place is pretty nice, too The whole package of this place is pretty spectacular, and I would say an optimum stay would be 2-4 nights max, with 3 probably ideal.

The best parts of this place are 1) location 2) staff 3) service integration.

1) This location is easily accessed via ferry from Cairns, and had enough to do from snorkeling, kayaking, walking/hiking, a pool, and live music on weekends. If weather isn't great, can do a hike instead of going to the water. The beach/ harbour right in front of the resort has great coral and snorkeling, which is as convenient as could be. I was debating Fitzroy Island vs Green Island, and I was drawn to the variety of activities on Fitzroy.

2) Service staff were all very helpful and pleasant, and they seemed genuinely happy to help without being overbearing. This made a big difference. They also seem to work well together.

3) The Fitzroy Flyer being connected to the resort made things convenient with schedules and payment, and the FISH sports hub was a one-stop-shop to get connected with various equipment and experiences for hire. Having these integrated made everything so much easier and smoother. The Zephyr restaurant was also nice to have, along with a more bar feel with Foxys.

My only gripe or comment would be to calibrate expectations on the whole "resort" side of things. My room looked a little dated from the 90s though admittedly luxurious with a gorgeous brown and white marble bathroom, and Zephyr as a restaurant has some ambitious menu ideas but with an execution a step below a proper high end restaurant. With the only option on the island, I don't know how much one should quibble, as the overall experience was still pretty great. I just know some people want everything super pristine and sparkling new, which this isn't necessarily. I would happily recommend this to anyone who goes in with that understanding.

Great Stay at Fitzroy Island Resort We found the resort to be clean and the staff to be very welcoming and helpful. Meals at Foxy's bar were great and Zephyr's Restaurant dinners were excellent. We found the snorkelling, walking tracks and turtle rehabilitation talk to be highly interesting.

Loved our winter break So beautiful love this island we come here year after year the snorkelling is wonderful the water is warm I’m going to be bringing my family back next year

I stayed at the resort for 4 days and 3 nights, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The location is absolutely stunning,being on an island in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef is something you can’t beat.

The highlight of our stay was the exceptional dining experience at Zephyr Restaurant. A huge compliment to Chef Valerio, who consistently delivered top,quality dishes perfectly cooked and always served on time. His passion and skill truly elevated our stay.

A special mention also goes to Quentin, the dessert chef, whose creations were nothing short of incredible. He’s clearly very talented and added a sweet touch to every meal.

And of course, a big thank you to the wonderful floor staff, especially Lisa, who was our waiter most of the time. Her attentive and friendly service made us feel truly welcome.

I’ll never forget this beautiful experience,thank you all for making it so special.

I recently stayed at the resort for three nights and had such a lovely time! The views were absolutely beautiful, making it the perfect place to relax. A special mention to Zephyr Restaurant — the highlight of our stay! Every meal was a delight, and the service was outstanding. Huge thanks to our wonderful waitress Lisa and the talented chef Valerio — they made each visit extra special. Overall, the entire team was incredibly attentive and made our experience truly enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Great location (even if the room was a little bit old), you can snorkel and swim on the reef with the turtles (if you are lucky), there is a nice 5 ish km walk to the lighthouse and the summit (beware it’s steep). It’s very nice to swim early in the morning before having breakfast. You can have breakfast and diner in the very good restaurant.

lovely overall such a beautiful location, great for any occasion. as the location has tropical weather, pack accordingly.

Island is nice, accom could be better When we arrived we were told we would get an email when our room was ready, we never got that email so had to line up. We were missing pool towels and when we enquired to get some the next day we were promised they would be delivered but never showed. When we asked one of the cleaners they could only give us 1 towel to share. The bathrooms could have done with a better clean down, and no face cloths are given.
The walks around the island, the beaches, glass bottom boat tour and turtle tour were great tho. Had a lovely meal at Zephyrs, and enjoyed Foxys bar too

We didn’t slept in the resort, but we booked the safari snorkel experience and it was stunning! Our guide was so nice and competent. We did a beefing before hop on the boat: she explained us what we could see on the reef, all the different types of turtles, fishes and corals.

When in the water she was always with us making sure everyone was okay. She spotted a turtle and a beautiful sting ray that was hidden under a rock.

It was a beautiful experience that we highly recommend!

A poor resort hotel in fantastic surroundings Please don't misunderstand my rating, this is a truly lovely Island with stunning scenery and snorkeling, and for that you must visit. My review is on the Resort hotel which could be great but unfortunately doesn't achieve good. We stayed for 4 nights in both a standard room and Island suite and if you can afford it the Island suite is a big step up in regards of facilities and of course a beautiful view (or at least ours was) The rooms in general are in serious need of maintenance, lights missing, door handles coming off in your hands, cracked tiles, tatty furniture, rust on some metal surfaces and a whole lot more. The housekeeping isn't at all good, floors left unswept, glass not clean, bathroom not properly cleaned. This unfortunately goes for the rest of the resort, areas of work materials with no apparent work going on, broken tiles, glass around the pool, shop and all doors filthy. We found the reception staff helpful and friendly but this is where customer service finishes.
Apart from the odd member of staff at breakfast the general resort staff are at best uninterested and bored and at worst surly and rude. The bar areas in particular seem the worst and is something that would stop us ever returning. The whole resort feels like it has no senior management with an eye for detail and customer service and relies totally on it's beautiful surroundings. A small example of complete lack of training and management is in the daily routine at the pool bar. When the shift ends the bar person just locks up and walks away leaving any cleaning and restocking of fridges for the following morning shift. This means that every day the majority of the canned/bottled stock (no taps in use here!) is warm and takes the session to get cold instead of the standard practice of restocking the day before so you always have cold stock. Just one of many poor practices but I have said enough.
In summing up there is a major issue with the mostly back packer staff, whether motivation, pay, conditions or complete lack of training I am not sure but it ruins what could be a lovely place.

Horrible rooms The island is stunning, the water is beautiful. Saw turtles, loads of fish and sharks was amazing :) But the rooms are horrible. I booked the most expensive room style/ room 109. As online it looks nice and refurbished compared to the rest. But this is not true. The rooms are very old, bed is so uncomfortable the mattress is hard and soft in all different places. They need to get new ones. Had the worst sleeps. Stayed for two nights. The staff is very rude. There’s no wifi or phone service in the room. The breakfast is very basic and only buffet available even tho online there are other options this is not true. They stop selling cocktails at the pool bar at 4! That’s odd!

Went kayaking and snorkelling and saw sharks,turtles& stingrays whilst learning about the coral so it was a lovely experience.

Had food at foxys bar both nights which was basic however delicious. Drinks were fairly priced too!

The cherry on top of our stay was that I actually forgot some clothes in our room after our stay and I was emailed instantly and was able to collect next day.

Beautiful resort and island

Solid place but I would definitely just suggest one or two days here.

The summit is great and the views were tremendous. Breakfast is alright but the evening meal becomes a bit basic and they don’t know how to cook a steak unfortunately.

Staff were very friendly though.

Fitzroy Island Resort is a great place for a tropical getaway. The location is beautiful, offering easy access to clear waters, coral reefs, and sandy beaches. The resort is surrounded by nature, and the views are stunning.

The rooms are comfortable and well-maintained, with most offering ocean or rainforest views. The facilities are good, including a pool, a bar, and an on-site restaurant. The food is decent, with a mix of casual and more formal dining options, though the menu can be limited.

Activities like snorkeling, kayaking, and hiking are easily available, with equipment rentals right at the resort. The staff are friendly and helpful, making sure guests have everything they need to enjoy their stay.

However, there are some downsides. The resort can feel a bit isolated, and the limited dining options mean you’ll rely heavily on the resort’s services, which can be expensive. Additionally, Wi-Fi connectivity is limited, which might be an issue for some.

Also the market has no groceries whatsoever and is very overpriced. So if you want to cook something you best bring it with you on the ferry.

Overall, Fitzroy Island Resort is a great place for those seeking a relaxing escape in nature, though it’s important to plan ahead for meals and entertainment.

Lovely island but the food for children was terrible. My extended family and I (six adults and five children) have recently returned from five nights on Fitzroy Island. We had perfect weather and we all had a great time swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving (for some of the adults), glass bottom boat trip, etc. HOWEVER, the food for children, except for breakfast was terrible, and nutritionally inadequate! There were only three choices at both restaurants, two of which were the same at both restaurants. While Zephur's childrens' food comes with vegetables, they consisted only of cubed, fried potatoes (not much different to chips) and green beans. The children could not eat the beans as they were too "spicy", and we had to send them back and get plain beans served. There was no ability to order a side dish of salad vegetables or any other cooked vegetables at either restaurant, for children or adults. The General Store was hopeless, as apart from a couple of types of sandwiches each day and little packets cheese and crackers, they sold only junk food and a few souvenirs. The rooms were spacious, but in the Beach Cabin in which I stayed the curtains were very worn and tatty, and unable to be attached to the curtain rail properly (not a good look!) For anyone contemplating going especially with children, I would recommend taking an insulated bag or two with fresh milk (as the Island only has UHT milk), some salad vegetables, fruit and other healthy snacks.

Great Island stay Great Island stay, enjoyed it immensely.
Great Room spacious with comfortable bed. Bathroom was a bit dated, but was a relief after spending hours snorkeling. Adequate kitchen for those who plan to stay for long periods. But you will have to bring supplies (no alcohol) with you. We utilised the “island package” which included free use of kayaks and snorkeling equipment plus breakfast.
Restaurant had a set menu which was expensive but great food. But there is a general store with minimal items, as you would expect for an island. And Foxy’s bar and grill, which is again expensive. During the day resort guests can’t use the restaurant as the day trippers have it reserved. The glass bottom boat tour was exceptional, and our guide Ethan was fabulous and extremely enthusiastic when we spotted a large green turtle. Also a turtle rehab is on the island which you can get an informative session on.There is a couple of nature walks which would be pleasant during cooler timings. We enjoyed our time here immensely.

Fitzroy Paradise Wow- the island is amazing and the resort is beautiful. The staff are fun and interested in the guests. The rooms are clean and anything extra we needed was quickly supplied. For basic cleanliness and management of an island resort we were not encouraged to keep food in our rooms. We brought breakfast basics which were easy to store. The restaurant looks great and the bar food is generous.

Nice island, average resort Fitzroy Island is beautiful, our second visit.
The resort however leaves a lot to be desired. I rate it as a 3 star resort at 5 star prices.

After waiting for 45 minutes to get into our penthouse apartment to staff reluctance in handing over enough coffee pods for our group of 8.

At $1,700 per night we expected better attention to detail.

The meal at the restaurant was nice, the meals at the bistro are basic & expensive.

Mixed feelings this time round This was my third stay on Fitzroy Island because it is a beautiful spot, with wonderful snorkelling and swimming just off the beach and a 'resort feel' at a moderate price.
First, the good stuff. We stay in the apartments - which have a stunning view over the water, to the west, from the bedroom and balcony, and are clean and spacious. All staff were friendly and helpful. Sadly, this time, our apartment (and the resort generally) was quite rundown and in need of some TLC: broken and wobbly floor tiles, flickering light inside the entrance foyer, one of the bedside lamps was missing (criminal for people who like to read at night!), and, as usual, very few cooking utensils (including no bowl for a salad) in the kitchen.
We had a lovely dining experience at the Zephyr Restaurant but Foxy's Bar (the only other alternative for eating) was looking decidedly shabby, with a shortage of tables at times and a bit grotty at others. I’m no longer comfortable to recommend Fitzroy Island to friends.
Despite communicating these views privately with the hosts, and requesting an acknowledgment (to be assured they had received it) I have had no response. Hence this (reluctant) review.

3.5 stars! Beautiful location and decent hotel Fitzroy island is a beautiful destination a short cruise from Cairns. The resort Is comfortable and clean however it is definitely showing its age across the board. The Welcome bay suite was great with a lovely view through the trees to the beach. We are close enough to the water that you can hear the waves breaking. Lovely. The bed was fine and so was the bathroom. The room has an oven and some cooking supplies and if we ever came again I would do some cooking.
The snorkel safari was excellent and worth going to the better locations. The glass bottom boat was great. The beach is lovely and Nudey beach was divine. The pool is nice but cold and the swim up bar closes at 4pm not 5.30pm as signed but all very enjoyable.
Before I review the dining please note that whilst food is expensive i totally acknowledge that it is expensive to provide remote location food and services so I understand the price tag.
There are LIMITED dining options and whilst Zephyr is nice with a beautiful outlook, the lack of vegetables was frustrating. (Prob ok for one night but multi night stay needs more greens!). Zephyr provides a buffet breakfast which is unfortunately pretty poor with scrambled eggs and poached eggs being cooked at 6,30am and not refreshed! I asked for a boiled egg and this was not possible. 2 hour old scrambled eggs are revolting. The fresh fruit platter was good though and there was an array of pastries.
The general store is dreadful and has very few provisions. Foxy bar is a lovely location and the drinks are quite nice. The food is basic and ok.
All up we really enjoyed our trip and would recommend as an easy holiday for a family.

Unfriendly Staff I would recommend only traveling to the island for a day trip to avoid interaction with the staff. The island itself is stunning, however, the staff were the worst I’ve ever experienced. We stayed 4 nights and all 4 of those nights the bar closed at 8:30pm or earlier even though we were a group of 10 purchasing regular drinks. On two occasions we watched the bar staff close up to go and drink with the other backpackers. Staff had no manners and seemed unhappy to be there, unfortunately having to interact with them at every meal really put a dampen on our holiday.

Would not recommend staying, only visiting.

The actually island is so beautiful and idyllic! The staff were all so friendly and this review is not a reflection on their reception team as they were lovely. I would just recommend visiting the island for a day and not booking to stay.

It seems the resort hasn’t fully recovered from the cyclone last year with water damage, but they do need to provide some transparency on the condition of the rooms when you book. We actually cut our losses and left on the same day and didn’t stay in the accommodation we had booked.

The resort itself is very run down, overpriced and unclean. Our room was dirty and absolutely reeked of mould. There was mould in the bathroom with no proper ventilation. There wasn’t a proper window in the room it was so dingy, it felt like a prison. Considering this room was near $300 per night this does not reflect the quality or cleanliness. I have stayed in multiple hostels in various countries, and this is by far the worst room conditions I have seen.

The foxy bar area was really run down, and it was a shame to see food containers and cans littering the area around here, like it had been lying there for weeks. The food was very overpriced and the chicken burger we received was lukewarm and soggy. It really feels like the whole resort is a bit of a scam.

The number of negative reviews posted online about the resort had me expecting to be very disappointed but on the contrary we were pleasantly surprised. From our boat ride on the Fitzroy Flyer to checkin and stay in our Island Suite, we were given great care. The staff were helpful, friendly and made a big effort. Our room was light, clean and comfortable. The restaurant food was good. The resort wasn’t perfect but it certainly exceeded our expectations.

Beautiful island with fantastic views on the beach. Walking paths around the island are not well looked after with messy and died corals. Snorkelling and exploring the rain forest are most interesting in visiting this island. Service in the restaurant is not nice as expected but something in rush. This makes travellers feel not to be a guest. Improvement should be taken soon to gain back the value of a reef island.

Best Family Reunion ever. My favorite spot for staycation. Organizing a family trip is not easy but special thanks to Rodney who has been really helpful from reservations up to check in and check out. Yes, he did it all. We were allocated to rooms close to each other which is really handy. The views from Level 2 island suites rooms are just amazing. Pool bar is perfect to relax specially when the sun is out. And yeah we spotted a whale during our stay!! Waking up earky in the morning to see sunrise is such a peaceful view too. Thanks again to all Fitzroy Island Staff for your excellent and friendly service. My family appreciate it very much.

Need to update room and definitely beds. Beds are not good to sleep on, we got another room after my Husband had a sleepless night, bed was a bit better but the rooms are very dated.

Snorkeling right outside your room

Adjust your expectations Weather dependant, the island has limited activities. Definitely do all of the walks. Nudy beach is the best visual location for swimming, sunsets and has some sand. A mould issue in the rooms; especially be aware of the rooms that aren't facing the water.
