Take a spectacular day trip from Hobart through the Huon Valley to the Deep South of Tasmania. Highlights include the Tahune Airwalk, Hastings Caves and the tasting trail of the Huon valley.
Operated By:
Join us for an unforgettable day tour exploring the pristine beauty of Tasmania’s deep South, where the apples are crisp, the salmon is fresh, and the trees have been around since before your great-great-grandparents were born!
Tour overview:
Our first stop is Huonville, where you’ll have a chance to grab a takeaway coffee and stock up on any essentials for the day. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenic drive along the beautiful Huon River. As you sip your coffee, you’ll hear tales about why this area is famous for its apple orchards, craft cider makers, boutique winemakers, and salmon production.
Next, we arrive at the Tahune Airwalk, where you’ll have two glorious hours to explore this spectacular region. Choose one or all three of the walks on offer. Start with the famous Airwalk, a 600-meter stroll 50 meters up in the tree canopy amongst the world’s tallest flowering plants, the eucalyptus gum trees. Feeling adventurous? Take on the Swinging Bridges Track, a 3.4-kilometer jaunt where you’ll cross two swinging bridges over the Huon River the first (100m long) and the Picton Swinging Bridge (64m long). Alternatively, you can stay on the ground and enjoy the tranquillity of strolling along the riverbank through ancient Huon pines, mingling with trees that are 2,500 years old. Talk about a walk-through of ancient times!
After lunch, it’s time to venture further south to the magical Hastings Caves, where you’ll marvel at the underground wonders of Australia’s largest dolomite cave. Your entrance ticket (included) grants you a guided tour through this fascinating cave system, led by an experienced and passionate guide. Here you can admire the intricate formations and learn about the area’s geological history. While exploring the Hastings Caves State Reserve, keep your eyes peeled for native wildlife like platypus, quolls, pademelons and birds.
On our way back to Hobart, we’ll stop at one of the local cider producers where you can enjoy a tasting paddle with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options or indulge in a complimentary mouth-watering apple pie if your stomach desires. It’s the perfect way to wrap up a day of exploring. There’s truly nothing better than sitting back, relaxing in a historic venue, enjoying a drink, and sharing stories with your fellow adventurers.

Whether it was quirky colonial trivia or insights into Tasmania’s evolving culture, Mark tailored the experience to our group’s interests with impressive finesse. It felt less like a tour and more like being shown around by a passionate local friend who genuinely loves this city.
The pacing was perfect, the sites were stunning, and Mark’s commentary added layers of meaning to everything we saw. If you’re looking for a tour that’s both informative and delightfully human, this is it.
Highly recommend booking with Mark—you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for Hobart and a smile that lasts well beyond the final stop. We booked via Klook btw

Excellent tour of Hobart and surrounding areas. You'll visit the charming village of Richmond, the Bonorong wildlife preserve, the wonderful Hobart outdoor market (Saturdays only), and the summit of Mt Wellington for spectacular views. Our guide (Mark) was great, providing interesting factoids during the entire trip.

I had a great time doing the Bruny Island day tour with our guide Jodi. She is very passionate in her work. She made the day enjoyable and interesting. Plus she spotted a white wallaby for us! Kudos to Tassie Tours especially to Jodi!

We booked the Port Arthur day trip with Tassie Tours and we had a very pleasant experience.
Our guide Jodi was fantastic and kept us entertained throughout the day with her knowledge and wits.
We were hitting all the spots on time and had sufficient time to visit and check out all the pitstops.
Would highly recommend this day trip or Tassie Tours in general to anyone looking for day trips (or longer) out of Hobart.

Highly recommend Tassie Tour especially when this is your first time to Tassie. My wife and I were fortunate to have Lachlan who helped us solve the payment issue when Viator refused to take our payment.
.
Yesterday, we had a very experienced local tour guide, Gerard, who took us to Mount Wellington, Salamanca Market, The Wicked Cheese Co, Richmond Bridge and Bonorong Wildlife. Not only was Gerald approachable, but also he answered our questions about these places openly.
.
Today, we had another friendly and approachable tour guide, Campbell who made the entire trip to Port Arthur Historic Site fun and enjoyable. He shared what he knew about the history of Port Arthur to prep us before we reached the place. He also showed us different places along the route as bonuses. We happened to see a coach under Gray Line that did not even stop at a scenic spot (in fact, the coach just drove past the spot and left) whereas we had the photo opportunity. So well you know why we prefer Tassie Tour over bigger tour companies.
.
One more thing to add, we had a very experienced local tour guide, Andrew, who took us to Bruny Island today. He was born here and he was from Bruny Island. How lucky we had a local guide to tell us everything we need to know about Bruny Island. The lunch at Hotel Bruny was great too. A totally enjoyable experience with Tassie Tours.

Best oysters ever with wasabi cream from Get Shucked! Amazing cheese from Cheese and Beer Co. Picked up some Black Pudding beer as well!! I could survive on Bruny with just these 2 places! And of course the scenery was breathtaking as you would expect. Thanks again Andrew you are awesome!!

I booked the Bruny Island day tour at the very last minute, which was late night before the actual tour! Luckily, they were still able to squeeze me in (and sent a message as well via whatsapp on the pick up instructions). everything went smoothly, from the pick up to the drop off. It was raining the whole day of our tour, which for any person would be such a drag, but Bunzy our guide (i hope i got the spelling correct!) was such a hoot! His tongue in cheek humor and knowledge of the island was just the perfect way to learn about the story behind Bruny and get in some laughs as well ???? Would take another Tassie Tour in the future, if given the chance!!

I highly recommend this company.
The customer experience they provide is exceptional.
They prioritize customer satisfaction over financial gain.
I have participated in four tours in Hobart, three of which were with this company. I had an extremely enjoyable time on these tours.
I would particularly like to commend their outstanding tour guide, Mark. He consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that everyone has a memorable experience. He is passionate about his job and takes the time to interact with each participant individually. His extensive knowledge extends beyond Tasmania and encompasses a wide range of global topics.
Furthermore, the customer service provided by the office staff is exceptional. They are understanding, thoughtful, and always willing to assist.

Did the Port Arthur day trip in May 2024
Pick up was a breeze right out front of our hotel. Mark was our tour guide I'd have to say his knowledge on the history was amazing given us an insight into the past history of the area. I'd recommend doing this day trip I was going to do the drive myself but glad we went ahead with the tour as we wouldn't have seen as much.
Even had a special guest aboard Ross Lyon

We used Tassie Tours as an alternative shuttle service to Port Arthur to do the 3 Capes Walk as it left later in the morning, giving us time to enjoy breakfast. The trip had the added bonus of stopping at the Chocolate shop and the Lavender farm. Our driver, "Mark" was not only knowledgeable, but good fun. Nothing was a problem. On our return trip to Hobart (4 days later), our driver came to find us (slight mix up on our behalf) and again, our driver was pleasant, laid back and more than accommodating, dropping us at our hotel. Highly recommend as an alternative service, which offers a discounted rate for the one way service.

Tassie Tours! Just awesome full stop. Arrived in the wonderful city of Hobart yesterday on a cruise. Wanted to travel to Port Arthur and check it out, stepped off the ship and found this company. Super simple, great advice even gave a Veteran Discount. Our tour guide “Tilly” was amazing we went to other great places to and from Port Arthur. Thanks to Tilly, we are definitely inspired to come back in the near future with the camper and travel around Tasmanian. Wonderful place, down to earth. 100% recommend Tassie Tours.

Jody our driver & guide was excellent.
We packed a lot in on the day & it was great. There was literally no time to visit the cheese, chocolate or honey shops. They were really rushed visits but i didn't mind as i wasn't on the trip to shop.
The sights were fantastic.
I highly recommend doing this day trip.

Richard & Shannon were very helpful and personable guides and went above board to answer questions and make sure everyone got the most of the trip - which was outstanding by the way. Definitely worth booking while in Tasmania.
Even though our ship was the earliest to leave port in months, we were in plenty of time for the last shuttle back to port.
I highly recommend Tassie Tours. Top notch excursion.

We recently went on a cruise to Tassie and had stopovers at Burnie and Hobart.
I rang Tassie Tours who were professional and provided a fantastic value for money tour on places we wanted to visit.
Our first tour was to Sheffield and Cradle Mountain, Richard was our tour guide and bus commentary - he was passionate about Tassie and there was hardly a question he could not answer. He was also good at taking photographs of us which was very helpful! There was also a female guide with Richard who was great, sorry I forgot her name!
Our second tour was of Hobart highlights - history of Hobart and many historic landmarks and lookouts, Mt Wellington and a stopover at Richmond where we had lunch and a shop.
We even were able to sneak in a stop at Bonorong Animal Sanctuary where we could feed the kangaroos and I watched a baby wombat eating a carrot - it was the most magical experience as I love wombats.
Our guide and bus driver was Mark.
Mark was engaging and remembered all of our names - he also had a great sense of humour and was able to engage the bus in very interesting topics of conversation. Mark is well travelled and had a very wide knowledge of not only Tasmania but many other countries. I really enjoyed Mark and rate him highly as a tour guide and genuine person to talk with.
I would recommend Tassie Tours to anyone and also to people on a cruise - they are good value for money and will not let you down. I am so grateful we chose them for our tours.

Had a great time with Andrew on the Bruny Island Day Tour. Mum said it was the best tour she has been on. Andrew was very thoughtful and accomodating. The stops are a great mixture of beautiful landscapes, lovely walks and importantly of course, FOOD. What can we say, we are foodies. The day flew, and we made so many memories. It is a bit pricey for $150 each (at $130 each, it would have been ideal) but we did our research and this tour had everything we wanted plus more so it was worth it.
