Come along and enjoy a beautiful day of exploring the hills and vineyards of South Australia by bike and don’t worry, we will take the sting out of the climbs by starting at the highest point in the area and riding mostly downhill!

You will be picked up in central Adelaide in and transported to the McLaren Vale wine region. We will provide you with a good quality mountain bike with front suspension & disc brakes, and a helmet if you do not have your own.

We will start off by exploring the beautiful Kuitpo forest or Onkaparinga National Park,and then enjoying the descent down Wickhams Hill towards McLaren Vale. We will then ride through the vineyards and stop at a number of local wineries to sample their fare and perhaps purchase some wine to take home with you. We will also stop for a lunch comprising of local produce along the way. The final destination may vary depending on the wants and needs of the group.

$189 per person, includes:-

  • Transport from Central Adelaide
  • a mixed platter of local produce for Lunch
  • visit at least 2 wineries for tastings and a brewery
  • use of a good quality front suspension Mountain bike and Helmet
  • a full days guiding with a local qualified bike guide.
Trips are run most Thursdays and Saturdays, but alternative days may be possible on request. 
Hills, Vines and Wines by Mountain bike. Thank you for booking onto our Hills, Vines and Wines tour, we are sure you will have an excellent day. We hope this sheet gives you all the information you need for the day.

 Pick-up *Our standard pick up spot is outside 91 Franklin St, Adelaide. This is the coach terminal in the city. Wait outside near the taxi rank and electric car charging station. We will then do hotel pick ups as agreed. We may not attend Franklin st if we do not have any requests for pick up here. *For anyone wanting to park for free, there is a second pick-up at 9:10am at the Junction of South Terrace and Hutt Road, in the Southern Parklands. Parking is at your own risk-check the time limit of the spots as they do vary. *Hotel pick up is possible if requested- pick up will be normally between 9-9:10am. The day. You will be transported in our van to the McLaren Vale wine region. We will provide you with a good quality mountain bike with front suspension, disc brakes, 27 gears, and a helmet. We will start off by exploring the beautiful Kuipto forest or Onkapringa NP, and then roll down the beautiful descent down Wickhams Hill towards McLaren Vale. We will then ride through the vineyards and stop at a number of local wineries to sample their fare and perhaps purchase some wine to take home with you. We will also stop for a lunch at one of the wineries along the way. We will provide a mixed platter for lunch. However if you wish to have a glass of wine with lunch this will need to be purchased from the winery. The final destination may vary depending on the wants and needs of the group, options include another winery, or most commonly a microbrewery. If it is a warm day we can even finish with a swim at the beach, so bring swim gear if conditions are suitable. Finally, you will be transported back to Adelaide. We will return to Adelaide to drop-off between 4 and 5pm. Please note:- We will be riding on public roads, and as such it would be an offence to ride if over the legal limit due to alcohol. It is at our discretion to stop a participant riding if they appear intoxicated. The Riding. The riding will be a mix of forest tracks, fire tracks, and quiet country roads. We will ride about 20km depending on the group, but don’t worry, it is mainly on flat trails, and will finish with a long downhill descent into McLaren Vale. We don’t have full van support, but the van will be nearby if needed, and we will collect any wines purchased along the way to save you carrying them. What to wear/bring: Suitable comfortable clothing for riding a bike off-road. Shorts are best, as are clothing that is ‘quick dry’ and light. Enclosed shoes are essential. A drink bottle – we will carry extra water but you will need to bring your own bottle or hydration pack etc A lightweight jacket if forecast looks wet An extra layer in case it gets cold Sunglasses and sunblock A small rucksack to carry above items Swimwear if the forecast is hot in case we go to the beach for a swim on the way back! We provide a good quality mountain bike with front suspension. However, you are welcome to bring your own bike if you so desire. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure your bike is well maintained and up to the ride. Please let us know if you plan to bring your own bike so we have adequate room on the trailer.
