ITINERARY
DAY 1 MONDAY 19KM SHELLY BEACH TO PARKER HILL CAMPGROUND.
[Or stop walking at Blanket Bay at 13.5KM. Note – waiting times incurred. We will need to collect the other walkers at Parker Hill first before we return to Apollo Bay.]
8AM Bus transfer from Apollo Bay. ETA: Shelly Beach 8.15AM
3.30PM Bus transfer from Parker Hill Campground. ETA Apollo Bay 4PM.
As you leave Shelly Beach and head onto the Elliot River Track, the trail meanders into the cool rainforest of the Great Otway National Park. You will enjoy watching the vegetation change as you pass lush tree ferns and tall eucalyptus found in the wet gullies. Spot black wallabies and kangaroos (and occasionally deer!) who enjoy the seclusion of this now quiet and deserted area. It is wonderful to see the clear blue sea visible between the trees as you reach the top of the Telegraph Track, before slowly winding down the trail onto beautiful Blanket Bay.
You will now enjoy wonderful views as you gently wind up to Point Lewis Lookout. The trail moves on past several creek footbridges before slowly descending to Parker River. You might have to remove your shoes as there is no footbridge here, but this gives you a chance to stop and marvel at the wild ocean beating the rocks just outside the inlet. If you are very lucky, you might even see the remains of the ‘Eric the Red’ shipwreck rising tantalisingly out of the sand.

We enjoyed every minute of the hike. The route takes you to places you would never see on the Great Ocean Road.
Our expectations were exceeded. The accommodation was amazing and offered impressive views of the vast landscape.
We were surprised by the rich and delicious food we were served. The landscape and the entire route were a unique experience.
We can highly recommend this walk to everyone.
Susie, Brad and Peter were so much more than drivers. They were friendly and welcoming and had a wealth of information about the local area, that was shared in an entertaining way, making the drives very interesting. I learnt a lot from them.
The 6 days flew by too quickly, but I have a lot of lovely memories to treasure.
Sharon
Everything was organised perfectly, we just had to turn up and enjoy the walk.
The accommodation was great and the food exceptional and plentiful.
thanks again to Mark and his team
The organisation was very flexible and able to offer us early pickups on the 2 very hard days and facilitate our early departure
on Day 7 it catch a bus.
It is a beautiful walk with varied days and lots of wildlife and plants. The beaches and cliffs are magnificent.
Meals were beautiful and plentiful. Nothing like tucking into some lamb shanks and mash after a long day of hiking!
Our driver Brad was funny and informative.
The walk itself was stunning! It was our first multi day walk and it's inspired us to do more. Fantastic to see so much wildlife on the walk - I had never seen a Koala in the wild and we saw lots of them! Echidna's, seals, wallabies, kangaroos were amongst the others.
We also loved that it was self guided, so we could go at our own pace, have a swim and eat our lunch whenever we wanted.
Hands down a truly wonderful experience and we can't recommend enough!
We turned up and hiked. Walk91 did everything else - constructed the itinerary (flexible to our preferences, responsive communication), booked accommodation (fantastic), provided daily track insights (accurate), transported us to/from trailheads each day (prompt, efficient, clear and easy communication), moved our luggage on (v helpful). Could not fault them on any of it. But that's just the start - they absolutely shone in two other areas, winning us over completely. The FOOD. It was fresh, it was local and it was home cooked. It was delicious. It was bountiful. The LOCAL KNOWLEDGE. We heard stories of nature and recent history, tasted delicious ice cream, were advised how to locate koalas. Walk91 were hosting us in their town, not just providing an exceptional service.
Saw the unique wildlife
Beautiful koala's, echidnas, kangaroos and lush scenery, so much natural beauty, tall forests and rugged coastline
The driver / guide was knowledgeable and very proud to be working in the Otway National Park.
Great knowledge and historical and recent history of the Otways
The accommodation was great . The food sensational
Highly recommend this company
The texting throughout the walk worked well and having the emergency beacon with us was a really good idea. I made us feel safe in case anything happened.
We thoroughly enjoyed the company of all our drivers, they were so generous with their time and knowledge and are all so passionate about the area. The food was abundant and absolutely delicious.
Cannot recommend highly enough.
Shout out to the van drivers. They were excellent friendly and knowledgeable
Our walk was 7 days, perfect time to experience the beauty of GOW , challenging enough. Accommodation and meals were first class, a big day of walking, arrived at cabin and enjoyed great hospitality,
Highly recommend doing it this way with Walk91, local people
Throughout we felt cared for and safe. Walk91's communication is excellent and we valued the informative conversations on transfers.
On the 2 catered nights the accommodation and food was ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
The Walk itself is spectacular - just the right level of challenge - with fascinating and varied bush, spectacular coastal scenery and plenty of wildlife.
Accommodation was amazing, Food nearly too much. Drivers informative kind and encouraging. And though we didn’t see many others on the track we still felt safe and connected through regular SMS checkins.
Best of all the Walk. Such diverse tracks and lots of birds and wildlife. And every so often you come upon an amazing view as a reward for your hard slog up a hill.
Would recommend to anyone to do all or part of the 104kms.
Logistics and pickups were excellent. Well done!!!
From the early planning stages and all the way through to our completion of the walk, the staff could not have been more helpful and great to deal with. Because Walk91 dealt with all of our arrangements, including accommodation before & after our walk, all transfers needed each day along the track, full catering of all of our meals (and snacks) and provision of safety items & regular check-ins, we were able to focus on the enjoyment of walking this amazing track and taking every opportunity to explore the natural wonders we encountered.
Obviously great ocean vistas were a huge part of the scenery, but there is actually so much more to this area. The wildflowers were abundant through much of the track and so the birdlife & insects were plentiful too. Amazingly we were also able to spot about 4 different native orchids growing along the track and, as an avid gardener, this was pretty special for me.
Other wildlife was certainly on show too. We had the pleasure to see koalas, wallabies, kangaroos & echidnas in their natural habitat - sadly this can be so difficult to do these days. We also searched rock pools along the shore at low tide & discovered beautiful coloured starfish & anenomes in the tidal pools.
This is just a small selection of the wonderful experiences we had over the days of our walk, and I cannot recommend it enough - If you've ever considered doing the GOW you need to contact Walk91 right now & make it a reality - you won't regret it!!
Brad was our 'go to' man and was always on time for the accomodation pick ups and meeting us at the end of the days walking.
Your friendly and knowledgeable staff made sure we had a great trip, the attention to detail is excellent. Thanks Brad for your walk advice, and great knowledge of tides, native plants, birds and animals. Thanks Suze for seeing we had everything we could have possibly needed all done with a smile. And both of you transported us to and from Melbourne in a safe and pleasant style. We loved our accommodation.. Cape Otway Lighthouse was perfect for a group of 7 lifelong girlfriends.
Walk 91 Tours are for you.
We were are a group of 7 lifelong friends, who loved our 3 day adventure.
Special thank you, to Brad and Suzy for your can do attitude and extensive knowledge.
Enjoyed the ever changing scenery, flora & fauna throughout the walk. Thanks to Brad our driver. Our accommodation was fantastic & food provided was delicious. We were lucky to have 6 days of perfect weather & only 40 minutes of rain on last day. We trudged through lots of mud on logging trails & trails that go up must also go down. Met many like minded walkers on the trails. We all walked at our own pace, no one coming in first & definitely no one came last a great achievement for us all to be able to say “We walked the Great Ocean Road”.
I would definitely recommend Walk 91 to all.
Barb
