Absolutely loved our experience at Montalto. The setting is beautiful, the atmosphere is so relaxing, and everything we ordered was delicious. Every dish was thoughtfully done and full of flavour. Such a lovely place for a long leisurely lunch.

Stopped by Montalto for a quick bite while driving around Red Hill with a friend on a sunny afternoon. We shared a pizza and the BBQ chicken, and both were good. I also enjoyed the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The outdoor seating was pleasant and relaxing, especially in the sunshine.

After lunch, we walked through the Sculpture Park, which added to the experience. A nice spot to unwind for a few hours.

We visited the restaurant over the weekend for a birthday and had an absolutely amazing experience. The dishes were all distinct, well presented and delicious, with lots of produce grown right there at the vineyard. It’s a set menu but you can change things for those with dietary requirements. The wine pairings were perfect and they elevated the experience even further. Mark and his team were so professional, knowledgeable and accommodating. Can’t wait to come back 😁

Wine tasting before lunch was impeccable. The service at the cellar door is brilliant.

Lunch was beautiful, the prawn pizza and pumpkin were incredible. … but like other reviews service in the piazza even in the middle of winter when it’s not that busy was pretty average. No sense of urgency to take orders or bring wine at all.

We had an incredible experience over the public holiday long weekend! Despite it being busy—which is exactly what you expect for a long weekend—the vibes were fantastic and the service was flawless. Our server, Glenn, was absolutely amazing. She was incredibly attentive and highly knowledgeable about the wine list. We trusted her recommendations, and she steered us toward the perfect wine. We couldn't have been happier with her choice! For a bustling day, the waiting time for food was very reasonable. As diners with incredibly high standards, we are notoriously fussy when it comes to food quality. However, this kitchen completely blew us away. Every single dish exceeded our expectations:

Entrées: The lemon pepper calamari and smoked arancini were beautifully cooked, incredibly fresh and full of flavour.
Mains:
The Gambrero pizza - The prawns were exceptionally fresh, plump, and perfectly cooked, snapping beautifully with every bite. The toppings were harmoniously balanced, ensuring the delicate seafood flavour was elevated rather than overpowered.
Wild mushroom pasta - This dish delivered an incredible depth of flavour that only comes from expert execution. The pasta was cooked to a flawless al dente precision. It was coated in a rich, velvety sauce that coaxed out the deep, earthy, and umami notes of the wild mushrooms. It was perfectly seasoned and incredibly comforting.
Rustic fries - Far from a standard side dish, these fries were a standout. They featured a deeply satisfying, ultra-crispy golden exterior and they were seasoned to perfection.
Dessert:
Pistachio Tiramisu: A brilliant, nutty twist on a classic Italian dessert. The cake was light, velvety, and infused with a rich, authentic pistachio flavour that wasn't overly sweet.
Chocolate Cannoli: The ultimate test of freshness, and it passed with flying colours. The pastry shell was exceptionally crisp and the chocolate filling was rich, smooth, and decadent without being heavy.

The Verdict
Completely exceeded our expectations, showcasing premium ingredients and exceptional culinary execution. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience; proving the kitchen's quality extends right through to the very last bite.

Beyond the food, the landscape is gorgeous with a beautiful, nature-filled setting. We especially loved seeing their very own vegetable garden—we left feeling very jealous of it! Thank you to Mark, Glenn and the team for a wonderful day. We will definitely be back!

Had the nicest afternoon at Montalto. The whole place is honestly so beautiful and relaxing, especially sitting out overlooking the vineyards. We did a wine tasting and every wine we tried was amazing and there honestly wasn’t one I didn’t like. The staff were lovely too and made the experience feel really easygoing and enjoyable

The limoncellos at the end were such a highlight as well. So refreshing and the perfect finish to the tasting! You can really tell how much effort goes into the whole experience there!!!! Definitely one of my favourite wineries on the Mornington Peninsula and I’ll 100% be back! 🍷🍷

Beautiful venue, even on a rainy day. We were cosy in the restaurant, it’s elegant and has gorgeous views out to the vines. The wines are delicious, and the food is so good. The short rib was the best I’ve ever had! The staff were awesome with my dietary requirements and were very accommodating and thoughtful. They already knew what dessert I could have when it came time to order (and made something off menu so I didn’t miss out) - as a sweet tooth, I thought that was epic. On a sunny day, it would be lovely to explore the sculpture park and vege/herb gardens… and apparently they also do private picnics to order - we will have to come back!

Visited Montalto Vineyard & Olive Grove and the place was absolutely beautiful. The ambiance is very relaxing and perfect for a day out.

The wine was good, and we especially enjoyed taking a walk through the vineyard—it really added to the whole experience.

The 3 course at Montalto’s restaurant was fantastic. We still experienced the summer menu at $130 per head, I suggest the wine pairing add on! Beautiful fresh ingredients the duck was superb and the fish as well. A great experience and great staff. Montalto has defiantly earned its awarded hat. Great experience guys thank you.

Travelled from Scotland UK and was told this place was worth a visit.
Quite disappointed to be honest and the maitre'd wasn't the least bit interested. He was glum and unwelcoming!
There were 4 of us and opted for the "FEED ME @ $75pp" - not enough to feed a rabbit.
Descriptions says .. "Includes bread, olives / shared small plates / shared bigger plates and side" - It was one piece of bread; a teaspoon of hummus each and a load of olives to start with!
Service was ridiculously slow. Totally disorganised. Had to ask several times for our drinks.
Maitre'd sat us in an area that he said the sun would move away from in 10 minutes - and was still there an hour and a half later.
We didn't leave any dollar tip, but the tip is - you need to improve. There are lots of other better wineries around and much more cost effective, efficient and friendly.
The maitre'd took the money but didn't even bother to ask how the experience was or say thank you / goodbye!

Our Picnic lunch experience was amazing! We felt like special guests of the winery, the staff were warm and attentive, from even before we arrived, when they gave us a courtesy call the day prior to our booking to advise they’d been checking the weather forecast and to discuss options for if the rain was going to affect our booking. Fortunately we were able to go ahead, with only a tiny amount of rain on the day, which certainly did not reduce our enjoyment. It was a unique experience, with everything included, a gorgeous setting, and superb service. Absolutely recommend 10/10.

Wow! This restaurant was a real highlight of our visit to Melbourne

The food was beautifully presented and plentiful, making the most of local and in-season ingredients without being in any way pretentious.

The service was top notch - really friendly staff who seemed to genuinely enjoy working there. I felt the young waitresses went out of their way to look after us.

The value is also excellent for the quality of food and drink on offer.

Picturesque winery with great views of the vineyards and a pretty good sculpture trail. The wines are so-so, but most people come for the food and ambience. There are multiple dining options and areas including formal, casual and picnic. In peak holiday season all three can be booked out, so plan your visit in advance and book accordingly.

Very lovely place with both indoor and outdoor seating and two levels of dining experience’s. We visited on a sunny day aand sat outdoors in the shade of a lovely tree in outdoor dining area. Menu wise there was very good option’s, we chose the feed me option to simply enjoy ourselves without having to overthink our afternoon. We also visited the cellar door and went away with some more and olive oils. We also enjoied a lovely walk though out the art gardens. Parking was also easy.

We had an incredible time at Montalto in the garden room celebrating my husband’s 60th birthday! The food was exquisite, the wine divine and the view breathtaking but the most memorable part of our day was the exceptional service from Oscar who was overseeing our function.

Oscar was very attentive to any dietary requirements and made sure that everyone was uniquely catered for and it was no trouble for him (despite lots of rain) to attend to our every need. A friendly, warm and kind young man who is a testament to the quality and high standards of Montalto.

Attended Montalto Estate as part of a wedding and reception ceremony. A magnificent, vast and fitting venue for our friend's wedding.

We booked Montalto for our 1st wedding anniversary lunch at The Restaurant — and it was simply perfect!

From the moment we arrived, the customer service was outstanding, especially from Charlotte and another gentlemen, who warmly welcomed us, explained the menu, and even wished us a happy anniversary.

We had the 3-course menu, and every single dish was divine:
🌱 The spring vegetable toast — I wish there was a tray of it! So good.
🔥 The burnt butter — smoky, airy, light perfection.
🥣 The hummus — I should’ve asked for seconds!
🌿 The artichoke — I’m usually not a fan, but wow, absolutely phenomenal.
🍖 The lamb rump and 🐟 rainbow trout were perfectly balanced, and the potatoes… to die for! Absolute heaven. Even the cabbage was delicious.

We paired our meal with a sparkling rosé and Pinot Gris, both perfect matches for the flavours 🍾.

A special thank you to the team for the complimentary scallops and wine tasting at the cellar door — such a thoughtful touch that made our day even more special 🥂.

Everything was amazing. The servers were attentive and friendly and also helpful. We went with the feed me menu. And it was great to share with my parents in their mid 70’s who loved trying the different options and found it all very delicious. Also loved the Birthday Cuvée which I almost left behind if it wasn’t for the staff chasing me down while we were viewing the grounds to return it to me.

We came here for my fiancé’s birthday lunch and what a treat it was. Food was outstanding, some of the best we have ever had with perfect wine pairings to match. The staff were warm and attentive, even offering us a sneak tasting of a new cocktail after we loved the two that we ordered. Thank you for a fabulous dining experience - We can’t wait to come back for the new summer menu!

Since moving to the Peninsula, we’ve become regulars at Montalto — and happily so. One of our greatest pleasures is bringing friends from Melbourne for a long lunch at the restaurant, and without fail, they leave as delighted as we are.

The staff are consistently genuine, warm, and professional. Whether in the restaurant or the tasting room, they work seamlessly as a team and always go the extra mile to make each visit memorable.

The wines are outstanding, the food is exceptional, and the sweeping vineyard views are simply breathtaking. Every aspect of Montalto continues to impress.

I photographed a wedding at Montalto Red Hill recently. I love this venue! The vineyards, olive groves, and sweeping views over the Peninsula provide endless opportunities for stunning photos, especially at golden hour. There is a super cute veggie garden too! It was so pretty having speeches on the deck looking over the grass. The team were wonderful to work with, ensuring the day flowed seamlessly so couple could relax and also really looking after the vendors too.

Montalto is our 'go to' place on the Morninigton Peninsular. It's great wine, hospitality and food. They richly deserved every award and I would recommend them to anyone.

We went to Mont Alto for lunch recently to celebrate my 40th birthday. My friend rang up a few weeks in advance to book lunch and double check whether we needed a booking to enjoy the wine tasting. She was advised that we could simply head over to the cellar door before or after lunch and they would accommodate us.
Upon arrival, we double checked that this was still the case and wait staff agreed that we could walk across to the cellar door after lunch. We did so and we were told it was booked out, we may be able to get a table in twenty minutes. We stood awkwardly in the thoroughfare in the meantime as it was raining heavily with little indication whether we would actually get a table. The staff member who advised us of this was incredibly dismissive, condescending and rude, even when we told her we had asked about booking. We tried to explain the situation several times but she didn’t listen, going to the extent of talking to another staff member about us within earshot, which was very unprofessional.
We really enjoyed our lunch - the food was delicious and most staff were warm and friendly. However, there is clear miscommunication between the casual dining staff and the cellar door which made us feel uneasy and disappointed on what should have been a special afternoon.

Not as good as ten minutes by tractor but enjoyable wine tasting. Walking around the sculpture park was a nice experience and takes around 20-30 minutes. We didn’t stop for food although we did have coffee.

Beautiful winters day on the Mornington Peninsula.The new Winter Set Menu was first rate.We really loved the Potato Donut as part of the entree/.snacks.The Wood Fired Beef and accompanying Sugarloaf Cabbage were super tasty.Obviously,great wine options to pair with the food-try the 2023 Estate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for well priced options.Finally,relaxing vibe with great service.Not cheap at circa $180 per head but still great value for what you get.Finally,don’t miss the sculpture park at the winery

From the minute we walked in the service was fantastic.Attentive and informative as well as subtle.
The ambience in the restaurant was great, quiet and refined, very different from the hustle and busyness of the casual pizza dinning area.Both have merit in there own right.
The food I couldnt fault, well considered, light,fresh and clean.Delightfully only one fried dish.Fresh ingredients executed with cooking precision , beautiful presentation and certainly didnt dissappoint.The dessert finale was superb.Highly reccommend.

Disappointing, pretentious

Bit of a vibe kill. Holiday with friends and mood dropped coming here. Staff (especially English manager) particularly disengaged and rude. Anything was too much. Made us feel uncomfortable & nothing worse than that when you’re away with friends and choose the wrong Vineyard..

There’s definitely an undercurrent of misery amongst the employees here and I hope that people wake up to this place as I feel it doesn’t represent the best of the Mornington.

Food was reasonably priced for the quality 125AUD + 15% weekend for the set menu.

The estate’s market garden and homegrown produce featured prominently in the restaurant’s menu, offering an authentic farm-to-table dining experience that paired beautifully with the wines.

However, our visit came with an extra layer of drama—our friend Mike, who had recently sworn off drinking, bravely accompanied us. Watching him navigate this wine-lover’s paradise while abstaining was akin to taking a heroin addict on a guided tour of opium dens. Every swirl, sip, and sigh of appreciation from us must have felt like exquisite torture. But to his credit, he held strong—though his wistful glances at our glasses suggested that deep down, he was reconsidering his life choices.

The Service:

The staff at Montalto were nothing short of exceptional—warm, knowledgeable, and seamless in their service. They guided us through the tasting with genuine enthusiasm, offering insightful details about each wine while making the experience feel effortless and engaging.

The Wine – Shiraz as the Standout:

While every wine was impressive, the Shiraz was the undisputed star. Rich and expressive, it unfolded in layers of dark berries, spice, and velvety tannins, striking the perfect balance between depth and elegance. It was the kind of wine that lingered on the palate and in the memory—though perhaps for Mike, it lingered more as an unfulfilled longing.

The $70 "Feed Me" special in the Piazza was varied and filling and the wines were excellent. The pizzas and other menu items being served looked delicious. Service was 'spot on' and the outdoor seating on the day we visited was excellent, shaded with views overlooking the vineyard.
The walk through the sculpture park was enjoyable and needed after a very satisfying meal.

Great food, expensive but tasty. Beautiful outdoor seating area, with delicious small plates. We found that the Wood-fired Focaccia lacked oil and seasoning. However the halloumi, pate, croquets and capricciosa were divine.

vegetarian main underwhelming We went to Montalto for our anniversary, and notified them of our dietary requirements (vegetarian and pescatarian) when booking. The service was good, and while most of the menu was vegetarian, their choice of vegetarian main course was extremely underwhelming and disappointing. My partner had a very well seasoned and well cooked piece of fish, while the vegetarian option was a quarter of lettuce that had been pan fried and served with pesto, nothing more than a side dish being passed off as a main dish. A complete let down. If this was 1990s I could expect this poor excuse as a main dish, but it’s 2024. Please do better.

Came down here on a Monday afternoon day before Christmas Eve. We didn’t have to wait for a seat though it was outside on a rainy Melbourne summer day. The menu was mainly pizzas and finger foods, mainly Italian inspired with Australian produce. We got 3 pizzas and the dough was thin like a biscuit and the toppings were amazing. The cheese melted was top notch and each pizza dough was hand stretched and pizza oven baked.
We then went for a walk in the wide space in the vineyard and were greeted with sculptures and fine weather.
All in all Montalto is a great stop in Red Hill region.

Montalto has always been one of my favourite wineries in Melbourne. We enjoyed their pizzas from Piazza, their wines and olive oil.

We have booked the private picnics before, and the set menu experience in the restaurant a bunch of times.

The picnic food was mostly cold 🥹 feel like not worth the $$, I really liked the concept tho, and the environment was amazing, suitable for a nice date or girls' day out.

The food tho, was a bit mid this time. The mussels were fishy. The beef roast was overcooked a bit too. The starter bread and butter was my favourite.

We would definitely come back, will update my rating in the future if my opinion changes.

Went here for the food and the ambience and it did not disappoint. Best food all weekend on our Mornington trip. Everything was a 10/10, pizzas were the best for mains and then all the entree starting dishes were all a must . Besides the food, the overall premise was nice to walk about. Service team there was awesome. We did the casual dining option where you could sit outside and choose your order > set menu.

Great Red Hill winery Sensational meal after a very informative wine tasting. Our sommelier was lovely and we purchased wines, gin and jam. The dining area was busy and the staff and atmosphere made for a very pleasant lunch. We shared the cray tail risotto and fish of the day with a side of beetroot and curd. Every mouthful was devine.

Just celebrated my 50th with my nearest and dearest on a sunny wintery day. Amazing kind service during our entire time and I couldn't have asked for a better birthday celebration!
A scrumptious meal that we all truly enjoyed and of course, the weather was icing on the cake! We didn't have time to wander about but I sure hope to be back for that some day!

Dogs not welcome!! Very disappointed a touristy area - with outdoor seating but was headed off at the door and told that Dogs were not allowed (very politely)- with no other recommendations as to where a dog would be welcome ( tried Tucks and was told the same by Jen who was very helpful and polite who also provided a list of dog friendly establishments- if you have a dog go to the Green Olive - we highly recommend it - dog friendly and very relaxed !

Locals favorite winery in Red Hill South Today was so it yourself wine tour and this winery was the first based in the recommendation of my daughter’s friends who say this is the winery where locals like to go. The taste test was the least expensive out of the three winery today coming in at $66 USD for two people. The taste testing was free since we purchased two wine bottles. We tasted 7 wines which were very good. The cellar store was small and quaint and the restaurant was a nice size. Overall the winery was very nice and understand why the locals love it here.

We had luxury experience vouchers and we choose to go a Montalto.
We had a wine tasting at the start our host very knowledgeable and we appreciate it the time she spend with us explaining all the wines.
After the tasting we been moved to the piazza restaurant for our meal. Really nice experience food was delicious nice service and great wine.

Nestled amidst stunning vistas, the winery offers a breathtaking backdrop for a leisurely day out. However, the charm falters when it comes to service, lacking attentiveness and warmth. Disappointingly, the Easter Sunday set menu lacks customization options and fails to cater to diverse tastes. Moreover, the waiter did not offer us the option of still or sparking water and only served sparking water. I have not attended this winery on a regular day so I cannot comment on the other food options.

We were gifted a picnic at Montalto and absolutely loved the experience. It begins with a wine tasting in the main building and we got to take a bottle of our favourite wine with us. We then walked through the vineyards to our private picnic table which was set with white linen. Our entree was waiting for us, and mains and desserts were delivered later by motorbike. We could have had more drinks delivered as well but we were driving. My recommendation is to get a taxi here so you can really enjoy a lazy, long lunch!
We loved our day here and will be copying the gift idea for any future weddings we go to!

Food never arrived Waiting for a table not unreasonable, but then waited over an hour for food only to be told the docket hadn’t printed. Apparently printer issues. Yet nobody checked or was vigilant that orders hadn’t been missed. Already 3pm so left.

Not only worth the stop, worth a detour and the trip there. For me this place should be at least a 4.6, you can’t ask for more. The service is very efficient, we got free wine tasting (2 wines), the views outside over the vineyards are splendid and the food is delicious. The wine goes without saying, the 2022 Chardonnay was very nice indeed.

Great lunch spot Montalto is one of the few wineries in the area that offers a casual lunch, which is why we chose it. There are nice seating areas inside and out that overlook the vineyard. The atmosphere is welcoming and classy with fun music playing that maintains a casual vibe. The lunch menu is mostly appetizers and pizza, which is just what we wanted with a glass wine. We enjoyed everything we ordered then took a leisurely walk thought the sculpture garden. I would recommend Montalto to anyone looking for a casual wine tasting and/or lunch in the area.

Awesome place to have brunch/lunch at Mornington. The food was fabulous, and the coffee was amazing. Love the whole atmosphere of the place, including its picnic area, gardens, and the wetlands walk. We reached around 1 o clock for Saturday lunch, the place was full, and we had to wait for 40 minutes to get our table. The service was quick and efficient.

Wonderful day out at Montalto Piazza. Good evening folks., went to Shoreham today { Friday 09/02/2024 } to visit friends and we decided to go to Montalto Piazza for lunch and as per our last visit we were not disappointed, Pizza's were wonderful along with the side dishes of Beetroot Salad, Fries with red sauce were excellent, drinks were all served nice and cold. The girls serving us were very polite and well mannered along with an excellent knowledge of the Lunch Menu. There were 4 of us dining and we all discussed the venue in detail as we had all been there before, we finished of with desserts of Lemon Tart and Rich Chocolate Cake which were excellent. All 4 of us would highly recomend The Piazza at Montalto Winery for lunch. To finish of my review I would like to thank the young Ladies who served our table for their impeccable service and making our visit most enjoyable.

Disappointing tasting. We'd read good things about this winery and decided to visit for a tasting. We don't object to a tasting fee, but for $15 each we do expect some courtesy and more than just a mechanical reading of the standard spiel - especially when the two blokes at the next table were being treated like old friends (which they well might have been). No water was provided and certainly nothing to nibble on. And nothing off the standard 6 wine tasting list was offered. The wines themselves were high quality and enjoyable. We visit a lot of wineries and usually enjoy the engagement and enthusiasm of the hosts. One of the few times we have walked away without buying. A real shame.

Lovely walk in wine tasting What a great winery to visit . The cellar door experience was so good . 6 wines for $15 - which were amazing . A great sommelier who knew so much - and the scenery was so good . Wish we had stayed for lunch as the pizzas looked so good ????

We had a beautiful lunch here. The food and service was exceptional, as were the wine pairings. One of my favourite meals ever! The burnt whipped butter, the lamb and the veggie course ????

We had the Red Balloon wine tasting and lunch in the piazza on a Saturday in January. This is such a busy place it's amazing how many people turn up!
Wine tasting was a nice experience upstairs followed by a three course set lunch in the piazza area.
Wines were nice and we were given extra as we asked to try some stronger reds.
The food was enjoyable too and well portioned. All round it was a good experience.
