Escape the city and immerse yourself in the breathtaking natural environment of North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) on this relaxed, small-group nature experience. Designed for travellers who want to slow down, connect with nature, and enjoy the island’s iconic wildlife and landscapes, this full-day tour offers a memorable and unhurried exploration of one of Queensland’s most beautiful destinations.
After pick-up, we travel to Cleveland and board the ferry for the scenic 45-minute crossing of Moreton Bay. As the mainland fades behind us, enjoy expansive ocean views and the chance to observe seabirds and marine life while learning about the island’s place within this important marine ecosystem.
Our first stop is Myora Springs, a beautiful creek where crystal-clear freshwater meets saltwater and gently winds through paperbark forest and mangroves. This peaceful setting offers a wonderful introduction to the island’s delicate ecosystems and provides a moment to pause, observe, and appreciate the natural surroundings.
We then continue to Point Lookout, home to some of the island’s most spectacular coastal scenery. Here, we walk the renowned North Gorge Walk, a well-maintained loop track suitable for all fitness levels. From the clifftop boardwalks, take in sweeping ocean views as we look for wildlife both on land and at sea, with plenty of time for photography.
From June to October, humpback whales migrate along the coastline and can often be seen breaching, resting, or tail-slapping just offshore. Below the cliffs, dolphins, rays, and marine turtles swim and forage in the clear waters, while seasonal birdlife adds to the experience. On land, Eastern Grey Kangaroos are often seen grazing on the grassy headlands, sometimes at close range.
After the walk, there is time for a relaxed lunch at Point Lookout. Guests may bring their own meal or choose from a range of cafés, takeaways, and seaside restaurants catering to different tastes and dietary requirements.
In the afternoon, we visit Amity Point for a gentle stroll beneath coastal gums, keeping an eye out for koalas resting high in the canopy. This quiet coastal area offers a slower pace and a chance to enjoy the island’s peaceful atmosphere.
Our final natural highlight is Brown Lake, a freshwater lake naturally stained by tea tree tannins, giving the water its distinctive brown colour. Surrounded by native bushland and delicate wildflowers, it is an ideal place to enjoy afternoon tea or take a refreshing swim before we begin our journey back to the mainland.
Depending on opening days, there may also be an opportunity to visit the Quandamooka Art and Culture Centre or a local museum, offering deeper insight into the island’s rich cultural heritage.
You will leave North Stradbroke Island not just with stunning photographs, but with a collection of shared moments, meaningful encounters, and lasting memories that make a small-group experience truly special.

I did the "Bellthorpe Rainforest Tour" and it was great to see all the wildlife which is quite different from anything in Europe. If I would have had more time during my stay in Brisbane, I would without hesitation booked another tour with her!
Thank you very much for the day out in the woods :-)
Coffee and cake, then a delicious lunch completed a thoroughly enjoyable and informative day.
Maiala Rainforest. She is knowledgeable and gives plenty of opportunities to appreciate such a beautiful place! Would book her again without a second thought.
I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a day trip with Brisbane Nature Tours to Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), and it was truly exceptional. Our guide Anita crafted an experience that perfectly balanced natural beauty, cultural education, and local cuisine.
The day began with a scenic ferry ride to the island, followed by our first stop at the studio of respected local Indigenous artist Delvene Cockatoo Collins. This thoughtful introduction to the island provided valuable context about the natural materials sourced from various locations and set the tone for a day of authentic experiences.
The highlights continued with the stunning Gorge Walk, where we were treated to breathtaking coastal views. One of the most magical moments was encountering kangaroos and koalas in their natural habitat - not in a zoo, but living freely in their home environment.
Brown Lake was another standout experience. Swimming in its tea tree-infused waters was both refreshing and therapeutic. Our lunch featured the local delicacy of Moreton Bay bugs, which was absolutely delicious and perfectly showcased the region's seafood.
What truly sets this tour apart is Anita's genuine passion for the region. Her deep knowledge and obvious connections with local communities ensured we were welcomed warmly wherever we went. She provided rich context about the destination that transformed what could have been just a pretty sightseeing trip into a meaningful cultural experience.
If you're looking for a day trip from Brisbane that offers natural beauty, wildlife encounters, and cultural insights, I cannot recommend Brisbane Nature Tours and Anita highly enough. This tour is the perfect way to experience the wonders of Minjerribah with a guide who truly cares about creating authentic and respectful experiences.
