Our 1-day Shark Cage Diving Charters are an AUSTRALIAN FIRST with Port Lincoln being the only place in Australia where you can cage dive with Great White Sharks. Awarded the Best Tourist Attraction at the 2019 Australian Tourism Awards & People’s Choice for the best Experience at the 2019 South Australian Tourism Awards, more people choose to cage dive with us than any other operator in Australia!
Calypso Star Charters is honoured to be fully licensed by the South Australian Department of Environment. We are also privileged to be the only one day operator permitted by the Fisheries Department to use natural fish berley to attract the Great White Sharks to our boat at the Neptune Islands Marine Park. The use of berley gives us the highest chance of sighting sharks and productive interaction close to our vessel and cage, resulting in a memorable encounter and wonderful photographic opportunities both inside the cage and from the boat.
Along with our license to berley in Australian waters, we are proud to be Advanced Eco Certified and a Climate Action Leader.
Return transfers are provided at the cost of $15 per person from most accommodation places.
If you are making your own way to the boat in the morning please ensure you arrive 30 minutes prior to your departure time on your booking confirmation.
Travel time to the Neptune Islands is approximately 3 hours, and we do travel through open ocean. We STRONGLY recommend you take travel sickness medication as a precaution, taking one the night before your charter and one again the morning of before arrival at the Marina.
Morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, cappuccino and filtered water included. Soft drinks and bottled water are available for purchase throughout the day. As a licensed vessel the bar opens on the way home with beer, cider, wine and champagne available for purchase.
We have often had Great Whites around the boat before dropping the anchor. Groups enter our new spacious cage up to 8 at a time leaving plenty of room for prime shark viewing! Once the sharks arrive each group will have the opportunity to experience cage diving face to face with the amazing Great White Shark. Please note that the cage diving time can vary and will depend on the shark activity and weather on the day.
View these marvellous creatures through the crystal clear water that surrounds the Neptune Islands. While you aren’t in the water you don’t miss out, the action from the very spacious upper and lower decks is fantastic. Keep your camera on hand for those prime photographic opportunities.
PLEASE NOTE:The Visitor Use Fee is payable by all guests entering the Ron and Valerie Taylor Marine Park (Neptune Islands) on a shark cage diving tour. This fee is used to cover the Government management, research and compliance costs associated with the industry.
The price of our tours is the same for guests who wish to dive or not, as when a shark is sighted, everyone on board has the opportunity to view the shark, not just those in the cage. We encourage all guests to dive in the shark cage and respect the wishes of those who prefer to watch from the boat. If a shark isn’t sighted, all guests receive a discounted return ticket as part of our No Shark Policy.
There is so much more to see on the Eyre Peninsula! While you are here check out accommodation options and some of the other amazing tours and activities to book, head to our Travel, Stay and Play page on our website for suggestions – CLICK HERE
Please Note – If your charter is cancelled due to extreme weather conditions or mechanical breakdown you will receive a full refund of your charter price if postponement/rescheduling is not suitable. We do not cover for accommodation or travel expenses, so we do recommend you to seek an appropriate type of travel insurance.

The staff who looked after us were brilliant, lots of good communication and Tacker was at his best! Lots of food - you do NOT go hungry! Yes we did get to see a beautiful 4.5m female white shark although this isn't guaranteed. And again there is plenty of communication advising that so there should be no surprises if there are no sharks on the day. We found the crew very respectful of the animals and our surroundings and it's definitely worth the money. Thanks guys for a wonderful day.

Did their best to make sure everyone had time in the cage and worked relentlessly throughout the day.
We saw sharks which made the day a success.
Highly recommended and would do again.
The food was very good with fresh cut fruit in the morning and breakfast sandwiches, cookies and muffins for a snack and a full spread for lunch.
I had originally booked the shark cage dive, but the day before they let me know that they were going to move me over to the sea lion swim and shark cage dive.
The sea lions were so cute and so excited when they saw our boat. They were very inquisitive and immediately swam into the water to greet us.
The water was very cold, but they provide wetsuits!
Even though we didnt see any sharks it was overall a great experience!

Staff were friendly and helpful, answered any questions we had and provided food non stop all day! Did a bit of trolling for tuna on the way back to the marina and managed to bring in 3 tuna within 3 minutes!! Very cool!! Will be back and highly recommend the tours!

The staff were all friendly and fun, the breakfast provided was great with some muffins, fresh fruit and hot drinks.
Wetsuits, flippers and snorkels provided and it’s time to jump in and have some fun. The sea lions took a while to warm up to us but by the end there were so many swimming around and playing it was a lot of fun and they were exceptionally cute.
We hired a go pro and got some really nice snaps.
Hot showers and hot drinks and biscuits after our hour of swimming was much appreciated.
Lots of fun and good value. We would do it again.
Scenery on the way is beautiful and we some dolphins on the trip out too which was an added bonus.
Thanks for a really enjoyable experience.

I also was incorrectly fitted with equipment and had to enter and exit the cage multiple times to get more weights added, and switch out my mask because the first one I was given was leaking. I ended up going back with Rodney Fox and had a much better time. I will say that everyone else on the crew was great so shoutout to them.

This part goes for any shark tour company; Don't do it March if in Australia as I believe the annual salmon run pulls the sharks away from the tour areas. I went on a swim with the sea lions the next day and only a couple of sea lions wanted to come out and have a look.
I think shark tours are cons because the chances of seeing a shark is slim. On the odd occasion the companies do and make a big song and dance in their advertising so people think it's like this all the time. Especially when they advertise with fancy videos of seeing sharks and clear blue water when the water is usually low visibility. They make money either way and the majority of people see nothing. Even if there is a shark sighting you want to hope it's while it's your turn in the cage. If tours are close by to your travels then go ahead but don't travel long distances specifically to do them as its a lot of time and money to waste.

The trip out is rough - believe them when they say you should take motion sickness tablets, it's the open ocean and the boat is moving around a lot.
Food was great, plenty of it. Not much seating inside, and in rough weather the best place is definitely on the outside deck - bring warm clothes.
Diving was awesome; decent condition 7mm wetsuits of all sizes, everyone has the opportunity to test out the breathing apparatus before entering the water.
We saw three sharks.

But a heads up letting us know that they had only seen 1 shark in the last 5 weeks before hand would have been nice. The staff seemed pretty sure we weren't going to see one today which makes me wonder why the company would run the trip.
At the end we were told basically not to bother coming back untill May.
The staff were friendly and there was plenty of food served.
But to only get a voucher back for the miss while they are very aware of the lack of sharks and paying almost $600 without any sort of warning before makes me feel like I've been scammed and I doubt I'd come back or recommend friends to check it out.
Great food (and lots!), amazing crew and captain. They were all very energetic and it made our day. Special mention to Blake who was throwing the bait and was very diligent even after several hours of not seeing the shark.
Thank you to everyone who made our trip a once in a lifetime experience!!!

Right from our initial email, it was all booked within a few minutes, so it was very easy. When we checked into the hotel, the hotel knew we were with Calypso so informed us of the hotel transfer, so it was quite seamless.
One week before our tour, they did reach out to proactively inform us that sharks had not been seen for 3 consecutive tours, so they offered to let us rebook. We appreciated that transparency and notice.
The tour itself was bumpy, but they had provided us with all the information we needed beforehand and even had seasick medication for sale (which I had forgotten to bring, so I'm glad I took theirs!). While we did not see sharks, swimming with the sealions was amazing!
Because we are in the ocean, the water IS COLD. Even with a wetsuit. So bring towels and warm clothes. They aren't kidding when they tell you that.

Excellent 2 hour cruise to learn about the fishing history especially the kingfish, mussels and tuna farms.
Saw a sea Lion colony which was very special.
You head out and return through the marina and see an array of homes and an array of different fishing boats.
Recommend this 2 hour tour good value at $70 per adult

Two people were watching out for sharks, apparently. I hence got into the circling tinny, with great difficulty.
Great leader care I don't think! So no, dont go if you are older and an invisible woman. Food was good. It was Dec 2019, not accessible.
Unfortunately it seems apparent that some people taking this tour don't understand no one can make guarantees when dealing with wild animals, but as long as you don't go into this experience with wildly unrealistic expectations (such as that the crew can control the weather, the sharks behaviour or their size) you will have an amazing time.
The crew work hard to make sure everyone has a relaxed and enjoyable time. You can tell that the operators are also passionate about the sharks and work closely within the rules.
My only comment is that there were too many people on the small boat. The space/facilities/food was not adequate. A lot of people had to stand or sit on the floor for the three hour trip each way. That being said, it was an adventure and I would do it again!
The day went as the captain said, the ride over was a bit rough but it’s the ocean so it’s expected (if your thinking about taking tables I would recommend it) breakfast was nice, once we made it to Neptune island we where tucked away in calm water. A shark came within minutes of us being there. There was 5 groups on our trip and all group had plenty of time in the water. The crew was very helpful with the wetsuits and equipment and once in the water we had a great white around 12-14 foot swimming right past the cage. Truely a breath taking experience. The cage is well built with a bar to tuck your feet under to hold you in place and has plenty of space for the 8 people inside.
Once out we had a nice meal and my partner had a hot shower to warm back up. Then watch the last couple of groups enjoying there time in the cage. Another 2 sharks had turned up with one jumping out of the water. A couple of drinks and a joke with the crew on the way home.
Cheers guys for a great day would definitely recommend

Thank you for helping tick off a bucket list item!
Highly recommend.

Sharks were amazing, however I recommend utilising another charter service.

That made me very disappointed and annoyed enough not to return, thanks for the experience, but consider the people who waited around all day to get in the cage before letting people back in for their second time of the day.

Skipper went through the motions, nothing more. Staff too. They may have been ready for the week / season to finish but for us it was 2 solid days travelling to get to PL to make this day.
Also did the shark tour the following day and experienced an amazing Skipper and crew and loved the day despite not seeing a shark.
Can’t control nature, can control employees

The town is built around this charter tour company. It was apparent that out of towners travel in for this specific tour and they have done a great job partnering with hotels to make this an easy experience for charter guests (transportation to/from and serving breakfast in the early mornings).
The staff worked their tails off to keep us informed about the animals, give us travel tips, answer our typical (“American”) questions about Australian wildlife, and kept us entertained for the length of the tour (14+ hour day). They were incredibly friendly and hardworking- we felt the boat accommodations were clean and they provided us hot meals including breakfast, lunch, and a tons of snacks. We were fed, warm and comfortable the entire trip.
Seasickness: The water is rough (even on days they tell you it’s “not that bad”, it’s still rough). The team won’t try to talk you out of going, you are still going to go. Although we didn’t experience seasickness, we saw the staff offering compassion and care to those struggling (85% of the boat was down for the count). Be intentional about taking seasick meds!
The precautions around the sharks felt safe but not overly stuffy. They are knowledgeable and have a lot of respect for the animals and the environment. They will not entice the shark to bump against the cage (which is harmful to the shark), but they know how to “chum” the waters and create enough interest to lure in the sharks at a safe and appropriate distance. We felt that we could safely experience being in the presence of these creatures, but at a respectful distance that still secured us great gopro footage and photos.
Thrill of a lifetime, so happy we made the trip down to Port Lincoln to experience the great whites!
The crew were fantastic on both tours.
Highly recommend taking seasick tablets, even if you think you will not get sick. The crew described the roughness as “mild” on our trip and it far outweighed how rough I thought it would be. Lots of sick people but overall a really fantastic experience.

They don’t give any eco or sustainability talks. Questionable ethics.

I’m prone to seasickness but took a tablet before I left and I didn’t get sick at all!
A few guests who didn’t take a tablet were pretty seasick so my advice is just take a tablet!
I thought the food and service was excellent and special mention to the crew on the 22nd for their care and management of an unwell guest. Can’t wait to come back and do it again!

A review by That Guy in the Foyer, John Doherty.

We eat all day long
The captain spoke too fast for foreigners to give explainations. Some of the guest were afraid to go into the cage and were not helped by the crew to be more confident. This tour is quite expensive so their day was not very pleasant

I dude both the seals and shark cage dive
Absolutely stunning , seal dive m/swim was absolutely beautiful experience, unimaginable how cute and placid these creatures are.
Very curious and playful the little guys will mimic your behaviour in the water,,,, seems like they just want to play
After we went shark diving in the cage. Once again what an excellent experience

We travelled about 1 hour 40 minutes either way to get to the spot. A large part of this was in open sea and could be 'rocky' so if you are susceptible to sea-sickness, come prepared. We have fresh fruit and snacks on board - nothing too filling. We could wander around (conditions allowing).
They looked after everyone. Non-swimmers are taken care of as well. We had about an hour in the water with the tour staff working their best to attract the sea lions. There were three tenders that went from the boat to the 'spot'. We took the last one - worked best. We were the last to come back and as the earlier tenders left, more sea lions came out to play.
Great experience even though there were some quiet patches with little interaction. When they came close to play, they played like puppies mimicking your moves and incredibly engaging. I hired a go-pro that I didn't get a lot of good footage with - suggest you just swim and enjoy.
A MUST DO.

They had a very thick wet suit for us. It’s still pretty cold, but plenty warm enough for an hour. We ran out of time before the sea lions got bored.
I don’t know the relative severity of the swells , but the faint of heart and weaker swimmers might want to skip this trip. Although the water is so clear you would definitely have a good view of the sea lions.

Food provided was good and they explain everything thoroughly. Cage diving was a memorable experience and they will give you at least 30 minutes in cage. But the whole trip will take at-least 10 to 12 hours

The staff were fun and informative, and it really added to the exciting atmosphere to have the staff love the job as much as the guests were loving the experience. They were also very encouraging and patient when we were using the respirator underwater for the first time getting into the cage, which was a massive help in staying calm to enjoy the dive.
We couldn’t have loved our trip more, and I highly recommend that anyone wanting to tick this off the bucket list go with Calypso.
Thank you guys for a perfect day!

And the sharks! We saw four. Very majestic.

Over two thirds of the passengers were sea sick , myself and two others in my party spending most of the almost 12 hours in that condition due to the severe conditions we encountered . I know the company can’t be blamed for people being sick but those wanting fresh air at the back of the boat had few places to safely stand .
My friend who was really poorly would have gone overboard if it hadn’t been for her husband grabbing her as she attempted to go into one of the toilets . I still nursing a bruised shoulder , shin and finger sustained trying to hang on to a pole whilst being sick .
On arrival at the dive site I believe there was some discussion about if the cage could be put in the water . It was, but the huge swell made it extremely difficult to enter and made it too dangerous for one of our party to fulfill his bucket list experience.
At this point I couldn’t even conjure the energy to put on a wet suit , I was that sick .
Having spent so much money and enduring the horrendous journey ,I forced myself to go up top to try and see some sharks . I did see some and they were magnificent with one breaching . 5 apparently showed up .
Three of our party went in the cage . My husband described it as being in a washing machine , the water was that rough . He lasted a short time . Another of our party , a big strong young lad lasted just 10 mins . A fella who had been next to me being sick for most of the trip went in , he was sick in his mask in the cage and he’s a professional diver !
We remained at the dive site and the weather improved slightly , everyone who wanted to dive was given ample opportunity to do so . Just before the cage was raised , a crew member asked me if I was sure I didn’t want to go in , I sadly declined .
The return journey was a little smoother but boat looked like a war zone with all the sick people .
The food looked lovely and was plentiful but not many could eat . The breakfast muffins at the start we’re lovely and the female crew member kindly accommodated a dietary preference .
Hugely disappointing experience and to be honest we would have felt better , although disappointed if it had been cancelled .
A week later we all still feel a bit traumatized . Out on the ocean in a smallish boat in huge storm with thunder and lightening , the stuff of nightmares , maybe not for the seasoned crew but for this landlubber .
A tale to tell for sure for all the wrong reasons .
I’m never getting on a boat again .
Honest feedback on the day to the company
Should have been cancelled
More handrails or straps needed to enable safe movement around the boat .
Children should wear life vests and if parents don’t want to take responsibility for their safety they should be told by crew they must stay inside in rough conditions .
